Just Cavalli Resort 2013 Collection

Posted on May 29, 2012

Hello, nineties! You’re back with your funky-fresh self, aren’t you? Well, according to the Just Cavalli Resort 2013 collection you are. Loaded with bright neons, animal and extravagant floral prints and more than a passing nod to Hip hop, this collection propels us straight back to the Clinton era but stops just short of leaving us there. While it’s heavily referential, there’s an appealing modernity and freshness to a lot of these looks, especially in the digital prints. This one requires a buyer’s eye, meaning you need to break each look down in order to see the individual pieces and just how cute some of them are. Some great little jackets and skirts, and those ombre green and grey skinny jeans are TO DIE. Talk to the hand, girl! As if!

    Love the gray skinny jeans!

  • MilaXX

I love a good maxi dress, so that caught my eye immediately. A few of the tops are a bit too boxy for me, but overall not a bad collection. They can keep the hats though.

    • TieDye64

Agreed. I’m with you on this.

  • lordandtaylor

You know me. I always like the hats. Lots of interesting items here…and combinations.  I am going to a resort in a few weeks. Thank you TLO for the fashion forward tips.

It will be fun watching how starlets will do these looks incorrectly. (Are you listening Brits and Miley?). I can see the knock offs already in Kohl’s.

Bit Lisa Frank isn’t it?  There are some good pieces, but they are hard to see beyond the memories of a pink & purple tiger pencil box.

    • susu11

Oh God, I remembering having a Lisa Frank notebook when I was a kid. I can’t think about it now without feeling like I’m about to go on an acid trip. Those colors were intense!

  • Judy_J

Wow…this takes me back!  My daughter was in her teens in the ’90s and a lot of her wardrobe had these colors and similar styles.  I’ll make sure she sees this so she can have a fashion flash-back as well.

It looks like the model can barely support herself on those legs!

Dress in first pic looks very ‘Anya’ to me. Very simple, sexy and the fabric does all the work..

Oh, but look at the detailing. There’s a flow that starts at the bodice and works its way down. Notice how the fronds act as a curtain to the thighs and waist, and how the animal print takes over as your eyes move further down. Towards the bottom, ferns take over and melt into a black border that undulates just beneath. This dress is thoughtfully designed from top to toe. The designer didn’t let the pattern do all the work; the designer had a specific artistic vision, clear as day.

Anya could never design anything that sophisticated. (Not to say you meant that she could–I just wanted to support this beautiful dress, and point out just how much thought went into it, as opposed to the typically bland Anya beach robe.)

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

that model is FREAKING ME OUT.

  • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

I hate the hats. I think they are singularly unflattering, and if they look ugly on these models, think what they would do to an ordinary mortal. While a few of the pieces on their own are cute, the preponderance of the collection consists of fabrics that feature really ugly mash-up prints. I think this is a “no” for me.

  • dress_up_doll

I know! Her legs seem super-exaggerated with the wild colors, busy patterns and boxy silhouettes. Kind freaked me out, but still, a fun and funky collection.

  • hughman

I don’t even want to know what’s up with that hat. DO NOT MAKE TRUCKER HATS A DESIGNER THING. No no no!!

  • afabulous50

Boy those are some tough looks to pull off..

  • ankali

    Baby doll dresses or GTFO.

  • DaringMiss

I can’t get past the model’s legs.  Give that girl a cookie!

  • Lina_bee

Maybe I missed this part of the 90s?  Or maybe it’s just not my thing. But WHAT are these hats? From the front-view, it’s impossible to tell whether they’re ballcaps or cloches. *headscratchy*

  • VicksieDo

Tell me that is a mannequin.  That cannot be a live person.  The clothes are cool.

  • marilyn

I don’t like baseball caps.  Is this the John Deere summer collection?  The clothes themselves are fine, but I question the taste level of that awful hat in every single shot.

  • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

Oh my god, I am totally buggin!

Love the dresses. The hats hurt my feelings, though.

  • holdmewhileimnaked

    they are?
but i like the dresses on either side. actually i like most of the dresses, other than the ones w/ words that are not, but look like, camp beverly hills printed across them. but i, like everyone else seemingly, could also live forever sans the hats.

  • Spicytomato1

Love the colors. The second to the last look is my favorite. I understand the griping about the dumb hats but they seem easy enough to dismiss as pure gimmickry and thus ignore.

  • susu11

I don’t exactly know why but I feel like those hats look like they should come with a matching fanny pack.

  • bluefish

Who can focus on the clothes when these models are all sporting the stork legs?  Is this the same girl over and over again or do they all happen to posses the Modigliani limbs?  Like the acid greens with the black.

  • giiiirrrr

I wouldn’t exactly call those neons.  Well, except the green, and even that with the caveat that it looks more saturated and grown up than 90s neon.  I like individual pieces in this collection very much–the lookbook is brilliant at making the funkier pieces look more wearable than they probably are.

The 1st thing that came to my mind was, “wow someone has been looking at Givenchy’s resort collections” Cause this whole collection looks like a poor man’s version of it. Oh ya and if you squint your eyes, you would see traces of Versace as well. If you’re lucky, you will be able to read a hidden message that reads… “I was inspired by Versace & Givenchy* HA!

  • guest2visits

I like the shoe line, alot. Some of the jackets and caps are cute.  Last dress in the 4th row; very pretty !

  • MzzPants

    Striking.

  • PastryGoddess

Horridly styled, but the individual pieces are to die for.  I’m really loving the jackets and pants in this collection

  • snarkykitten

skinny jeans need to DIAF already

  • http://twitter.com/riosramblings Michael Rios

That cute little take on basketball shorts one model is wearing is just slaying me with its Olympic-chic meets hip hop video attitude.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=720946720 Carolyn Smrcka

Is it just me or are all the models skinny in a badbadbadbadbad way in this?

    • A Reeves

There’s only one model. and yes. way too skinny.

  • Aurumgirl

    The hats are all NO.

  • calimon

Funky, funky, fresh! I see M.I.A and Santigold inspired collection, though, sans the hat, many pieces could be tamed for other celebs.

  • http://twitter.com/LOfficielEbony TheVeryLivingEND

That maxi dress will be in my dreams tonight.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

I know models are supposed to be thin – but this one is soo thin she looks just like she’s about to die.  I was distracted by that.  I like the skinny jeans though and I’m a fan of a boxy top.  Just so as I don’t have to wear either one on my body, which is entirely comprised of circles.

  • quiltrx

I had to put my hand over those distracting, ugly hats.  I like the prints, not much on the styles.  Dislike the toothpick, chav-ette model.

  • AuntieAnonny

I’ve seen all of this before, and at a significantly lower price.

  • http://www.facebook.com/kristin.fortune Kristin Fortune-Rollison

How can I get my hands on the maxi dress? I’ve been searching endlessly since I fell in love with the dress on the Harpers cover. I have the perfect event to wear this to, but am a novice in the high designer world, any help would be so very appreciated. Pleaassse? Many thanks fashionistas!! Xx
