Eva Longoria in Reem Acra

Posted on May 30, 2012

We keep seeing all these heavy-looking, metallic dresses on the red carpets lately and we have to ask these ladies: Did you forget it’s late May?

Eva Longoria attends Global Gift Gala 2012 in Paris in a Reem Acra gown.

Reem Acra Fall 2012 Collection

Sure, it’s partially sheer and probably not as heavy as it looks, but still. This doesn’t say “late spring” to us. We don’t get this latest micro-trend.

Pretty great dress, though. A little heavy in the bodice. And of course, she should’ve worn it with a lining. No one’s interested in your bodysuit, honey.

She looks pretty amazing, although her left eyebrow arch is creeping me out!

    • Little_Olive

Spider woman eyebrows to go with spider lashes. Now I cannot un-see it!

    •  I thought that eyebrow was a little over-tweezed, too!

  • BrooklynBomber

Ouch! That’s just awful. So unflattering.

  • Chain mail is making a big comeback this spring. I keep hoping someone will accessorize with a nice sword or dagger next.

    • MissAnnieRN

I was thinking the same. This is Game of Thrones in 2012. Cersei would so wear this.

  • schadenfreudelicious

she has a great little figure, but that peek of black “triangle” at crotch level in the third photo is producing a most disconcerting optical illusion….

    • Little_Olive

Illusion how? I think we are seeing exactly what it is. It’s not nice.

      • schadenfreudelicious

i assumed we were seeing a triangle of fabric from her bodysuit showing through, at least i sincerely hope that is what we are seeing…

        • Little_Olive

If that black is not a triangle of fabric, she is taking the pain that beading must produce like a total trooper

          • schadenfreudelicious

            LOL, indeed!

  • Beth G

    It’s like a swim coverup…..

    • girliecue

A super sparkly and heavy swim coverup….

  • cooperalden2

    As worn: fancy beach cover-up.

  • kalisa

She looks like she’s trying to be a Kardashian.

    • Kristin McNamara

she looks the spitting image of a tighter-faced marisa tomei to me…

  • vanjar

They must all be ‘Game of Thrones’ fans.

  • OVARIES!  All I can see are OVARIES!  Which is way funnier considering how much lower they sit on Eva than the model.  I keep wanting to yell at her to yank her ovaries back into place…  That’d be pretty awkward though, right?

  • Can I just say thank GOD she’s at least wearing the body suit????  There are others (Klum, I’m looking at you) that might not have. She does look pretty good though.

  • Eva_baby

That is a great dress, just not on her.  I think in her own mind she feels she’s  as tall as Charlize Theron and then tries to dress accordingly.  But the result is usually that she tends to look overwhelmed by her dresses.

    • NinaBoo

This x 100.  The Victoria Beckham dress from earlier today is such a better look for her.  She just can’t carry all that detail without looking a wee bit overwhelmed.

    • Melissa Brogan

Seriously. Charlize has more than half a foot on Eva. I want someone to tell these girls they have great bodies, but there are just some things that don’t work when you’re 5’2″…

  • guestela

Man, the sheer elements look ridiculous to me. Vulgar, even.

  • Sobaika

It looks like something from Beyonce’s tour wardrobe.

  • Abby Davis

For such an expensive dress, where the heck is the lining!!!

  • Porn star meets Game of Thrones. If you’re in to that sort of thing–then hey, grab a lance and get at it–but bring your statuesque when you go down that road.  That’s not something dear Eva is equipped to do.  This is a 6 foot girl dress wearing a 5’2″ woman.

  • Susan Crawford

This is not a dress for a petite woman. It is for a tall, broad-shouldered, legs-for-miles glamazon.

  • God, that bodysuit! *shudders*

    • Qitkat

Yes, if anything it adds to the vulgarity somehow.

    • makeityourself

It looks like a Danskin leotard. Such a bad idea. TLo is right. A lining would have been so much better. This just visually chops up an already chopped up gown.

  • Lina_bee

So Barbarella…but made for a 5’9″ Barbarella, while Eva can hit 5’4″ in super-tall platforms. Not a bad look for her, just this particular dress needs completely re-cutting for us tiny women.

  • girliecue

Her blush and eyes are overdone. How many ways can a ladystar scream “Look at me!”?

    • AngelaGreen

I agree.  I thought she looked like she’d been punched with a lollypop.

  • Qitkat

    Makes me itchy.

  • SpcilK

She can WERK a Victoria Beckham dress, but this is not her dress.

  • giiiirrrr

Maybe I’m alone but I really like these metallic dresses.  They’re out of season to be sure, but so much more fun to look at than flat matte, or worse, shiny satin fabrics.  The magpie in me says SPARKLY!

    • wisenhar

      LOVE!  Oooh, look, a quarter…

  • Laurie Bergman

I am not digging these anatomy diagram-esque dresses.  This one, and the KStew one from a week or so ago…they look like the sartorial equivalent of the game of Operation, but with lady parts.

  • Jessica O’Connell

At least she didn’t wear it without underwear, like the model…? Still…really not a early summer/late spring (whatever the hell season we’re in) dress. Also too much blush, which is only made more obvious by that puckered face she’s making in the close-up face shot there.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

She looks like something out of that show that Lucy Lawless was in… Xena, that’s it.

  • I’m pretty sure she just has an eye makeup stamp. Ink it up on the pad, WHOMP, and go. Looks terrible, as usual. Very aging.

  • charlotte

    Eva the warrior princess?

  • charlotte

    Eva the warrior princess?

  • Ashley Vice

I really love it. I would love to wear it, I think the body suit under the sheer makes it more figure flattering, and I think she’s pulling it off. Feel like the ponytail was a wrong choice, but she looks beautiful and not uncomfortable at all. Isn’t that the point?

  • j_anson

Yeah, I’m not sure what the right thing to wear under that was, but what she has isn’t it.

  • Judy_J

Chain mail over a swimming suit.

  • MilaXX

*yawn* I’m so over the sheer dress thing that every time I see one now my eyes just glaze over. It’s the print version of white noise.

  • Sara__B

Almost. Could have had it lined. Should have had a different, non-leotard neckline. Would have looked a lot better. (The leotard neckline plus the ponytail make it perfect formal wear for gymnasts.)

  • patticake1601

Nothing says classy like a see through dress.

  • nannypoo

I’ve never seen her look so slutty.

  • Girl, not your dress. Set it free so we cans ee Kylie Mingue werq this.

  • golspie

These are ‘fuck me’ dresses. They’re great for a man to look at but they’re not fashion and, I may be old fashioned, but I don’t think they’re right for the red carpet.

  • Something about that bodysuit under there – she looks like she’s about to go up on the flying trapeze after throwing that dress off like a cape.

  • kirkyo

No one’s interested in her bodysuit, really? I’m the wrong target market and I’m almost interested.

  • PaulaBerman

    Disco beach cover up! /Duchess

  • kimmeister

Her booty looks slamming, but her chest seems to have been squashed to invisibility.

  • GTrain

great but without the bodysuit. it’s distracting from the overall look.

  • guest2visits

I thought it was gorgeous until I saw it was another see through dress.  2012. Year of the underwear challenge.

  • I think this could have been a “Girl, that’s not your dress”

  • KC

I think being able to see through it ruins the lines and pattern of the dress. I’m annoyed that she didn’t wear lining with it, totally ruins it.

  • allisankelly

    Very expensive bathing suit cover-up.

  • turtleemily

    1) Is that a leotard and
    2) if yes, how does she use the bathroom in that thing?

  • Jecca2244

i think her makeup artist got excited with the brow pencil. this dress would have looked a thousand times better fully lined.

  • Lilak

An awful lot of heavy-handed styling on that little lady, from head (well, face) to toe.

  • She really needed a lining and to wait for fall.

  • Nonnah

For some reason, she’s in my top five of “Celebrities I Irrationally  Hate”. It’s hard for me to judge the dress with her head popping out. I would like it better if Charlize was wearing it.

  • TSkot

These only work on statuesque runway gazelles.  Tiny little Eva looks ridiculous.

  • Joan of Arc.

  • DesertDweller79

No more sheer dresses!  I am exhausted seeing so many of them.  At least wear a lining, darn it!

  • Jessica Goldstein

As amazing as this is on her body, I just keep thinking back to the orange VB dress and how much better she looks in simpler things. And yea, nothing about this reads late spring at all.

  • Trying. Too. Hard.

  • ASK26

This: Did you forget it’s late May?    Very true and odd since they spend most of the winter in sleeveless and strapless.

That said SLEEVES  and still very pretty – SEE

  • Sophie Collier

At first I wasn’t sure it was sheer but then when I saw the second photo of her, I said “Ohhhhhh Gaawwwwwd….”  Not in a good way.  In an embarrassed for her way.  Tacky.  Lined, it would be exquisite.

  • CQAussie

The body suit pushes this into tacky…

  • RzYoung

She obviously didn’t forget it was late may as she’s wearing her swimsuit underneath it

  • afabulous50

NO no no…get the whole thing lined….yuk.

  • Funkykatt

Why isn’t Heidi Klum wearing this?

  • HobbitGirl

I just want to scream at whoever has decided that showing your undies in public is a trend: STOP IT. STOP IT NOW. STOP SHOWING OFF YOUR UNDIES.

  • TLo, can’t you tell this is just the latest in high end bathing suit cover ups for the red carpet?

  • choco

It would make sense if she were wearing it on the west coast.. since there are no seasons.

  • TheOriginalLulu

Ouch, shame about that bodysuit. It’s a gorgeous dress. This could have been a killer look, if she had worn a proper lining. And if we were in December.

  • Jennifer Hofstetter

She does look amazing, but the body suit is SO distracting to me.

  • the word vulgar comes to mind. Not sexy. Not pretty.

  • chitowndg

This is horrid.  Get a lining.

  • I’m loving the hair and makeup but definitely NOT with that dress.  That dress wants drama….not a Barbie doll lip and pony…and definitely NOT that 1989 Victoria’s Secret bodysuit.

  • cleep1000

    It suits her.

  • KathKo

Well… It’s a little too Cleopatra meets the cybermen for my taste.

  • jessicasac

It doesn’t feel seasonally appropriate but, I usually hate everything about her, so this is nice. Icky body suit.

  • funkypeanut

    That’s one overdone swimsuit coverup.

  • DinahR

If ComicCon had a true red carpet — and it totally should — this would be the perfect thing to wear accessorized with a helmet, sword or shield plate.  A crown, a scepter. I dunno.  And I’m not being sarcastic, it looks great on Eva but a creative con girl could do wonders with this.  I feel like this dress is almost wasted here.

  • TieDye64

Why no lining? Why? I love the high pony on her, though. The (lined) dress would be great on a taller woman with more presence.

  • With that hair and makeup, she’s all ready to cheer at the big game.

  • bellafigura1

She irritates me, she’s so average and she makes that trophy of a dress look average, and I hate hate hate her HAIR.

  • Diego!

Is that tape glued to her ass??? o_O I don’t like it.
