Erdem Resort 2013 Collection

Posted on May 23, 2012

As per WWD, Erdem Moralioglu described his collection as “‘Valley of the Dolls’ meets Upper East Side meets Amish.” Gotta say, the man knows his work. That pretty much nails it. This is granny chic crossed with hipster chick and a lot of it is super-cute. The palette is very simple; mostly pink, white and blue, and the overall feel is elegantly retro while still feeling coolly modern. All those eye-popping prints give the rather traditional shapes a sly sort of fun feel, and yet some of these pieces are quite – and this is a word we almost never use but it seems to apply perfectly – lovely.

  • Fuckin’ gorge.

  • BrooklynBomber

I love the silhouettes. Not sure of the prints.

    • mjude

thats exactly what i was thinking.

  • Love the collection, but the partial, breathy, consistant open-mouth thing is creeping me the eff out.

    • guestela

Yeah, I agree. To me, the brunette looks irked and the blonde looks terrified — in EVERY PHOTO.

      • Total props to their ability to maintain the SAME FACE in practically every pic.  It’s creepily reproduced, every. time.

        • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

oh god, thanks a lot ashley.  now i won’t be sleeping tonight.

        • Sara LaBatt

I noted the same.  Creepy.  Really pretty clothes though, I like them a lot.

    • EAV

I thought about “mildly surprised” and “novocained”, but “slack-jawed” was the term I finally settled upon.

      • BrooklynBomber

Hah!  There’s so much going on in the prints that I didn’t even notice their expressions at first. But you all are right. It’s pretty funny.

    • exactly. these are cute, a little dreamy clothes- why are they posed like theyre internally freaking out? can’t we have models just having fun and looking cute?

    • i never looked at the faces

    • mom2ab

Actually the 13 year old models are trying to talk without moving their mouths…I think they are saying…” I smell french fries..yeah its the assistant over by the makeup table.. I wish I was allowed to eat..”

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Ok, I see the lovely.  And, I hear what you are saying.  But what the hell resort did these bitches go off to?  And remind me not to go there….

    • MilaXX

Honestly these remind me of what the mother’s would wear in Dirty Dancing to the weekly fancy dinners.

    • 6th photo down – dress on the right…a sleeveless version would look great at a luau (many of which are held at resorts.)  :/

      • HomeOfficeGirl

I can see the clothes at a resort (sort of… not the kind of resorts I go to, but…) it’s the nasty expressions that turn off.

  • guestela

Wow. I love — and would love to own — a lot of this!

  • Fran Rossi

I love this collection but how does it relate to resort wear? What kind of resort does one wear this collection? where is the swimsuit and capri pants and flat sandals??

    • Lilyana_F

       Really good point, btw

    • I agree. It looks more like a spring collection than resort wear. Love it, but agree that it’s miscategorized.

  • Lilyana_F

Lovely is right 🙂 Love the color story and i’d wear almost every piece, they all seem like they’d be very flattering to most body types

  • Beautiful. I love the color palette and even though I usually prefer larger, more graphic prints, the abstractness of even the smaller more floral prints appeal to me a lot.

  • Oh wow, I love all of this. The colors are so beautiful. And I think this is a very nice photoshoot as well, very pretty.

  • Breathtaking.  Collections like these remind me why I became a fashion designer.

  • Pants_are_a_must

I want it ALL, except for the suits. Too much pattern.

  • VioletFem

I especially like the shoes in this collection. Also, the bottom two looks are my favorite.

    • jtabz

Yes to the shoes! My life would be 3x more fun in chunky floral heels.

  • MilaXX

I don’t really care for this. Lovely does indeed aptly describe it, but it feels a bit too country club/suburban to me.

  • allisankelly

In love with most of it and in extreme like with the rest of it.

  • I would wear every single piece if I could.  (probably couldn’t pull off the pantsuit, but it wouldn’t stop me from trying.)

  • TheOriginalLulu

Yes but this really doesn’t feel like a resort collection to me.

  • LeBarron

Ooo.  There’s a lot to love here!

  • VioletFem

That blue pantsuit (with the long sleeve jacket) was made for Florence Welch.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

Sure – I can see that!

    • Nope, that was made for ME ME ME!

  • Scimommy

Good to know that Carey Mulligan and Mia Wasikowska are all set for their next 25 red carpet appearances.

    • charlotte

       And Michelle Williams, too.

    • MilaXX

I thought of Michelle, Mia and Carey when I saw this collection

    • TieDye64

I hope Zooey Deschanel doesn’t ruin the dresses with black tights. Ugh.

  • Hetha Innis

I would love to see Cathy Cambridge in just about ANY of these looks.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

OH!  Good call – she looks so beautiful in blues.  Would love to see her in these prints!!

    • vanjar

Yes, and especially the blue one would be perfect for her. (third picture from the top).

    • AuntieAnonny

       Exactly what I thought.

      Also, Michelle Obama.

  • AlinaValero

love the prints and the palette. that floor length dress with the back cut out is TO DIE.

    • AlinaValero

also how cute are the matching shoes! (are matchy-matchy shoes okay in this case?)

  • AllisonAndStuff

    I. Want. That. Suit.

  • esfamya

Love these. And they even look like clothes that real women could wear, if real women could afford them.

  • Snailstsichr

My first thought is that Kristen Stewart could rock these looks. but maybe that is because of the expressions on the models??

  • IAmJ

The silhouettes and a lot of the prints are gorgeous. Seems like they would also work on non-model body types such as my own.

  • Lina_bee

Hrm. Not terribly summery for the supposed Resort line, are they? I mean, they look like what I might’ve worn when I worked at a law office. I’m not a fan of these particular prints, either, or at least not in these colors.  I love the shapes of the dresses, though.

  • MK03

  •  I love the shades of blue in this collection!

  • MzzPants

Love all of it except for the lace pieces…tired of lace.  The rest of the collection could drop right into my closet, especially the shoes.

  • Oh. My. God.

  • hughman

They are very interesting although they read very “Candidate’s Wife” to me. Some quirky personal styling could kick it up a notch. Tons of bracelets, a jaunty purse.

  • Kate4queen

I love a nice flowery print and some of these are absolutely wearable by real women.

  • Sara__B

    Print-tacular! (Maybe a little TOO print-tacular?)

  • Yes. Love. Love, love, love.

  • Print and print mixing is in. You can’t argue with numbers. Plus the collection is wearable for more than a size 2. I imagine Joan Holloway updating her wardrobe with some of these.

  • veronkimo

This collection is so beautiful! I love it!

  • Seeing this collection makes me wish I wasn’t so afraid of patterns, lovely was the appropriate word there

  • Lisa Dugan

Beautiful.  I love almost every piece.  I’m just not enjoying the pants/suits printed in all one pattern. Too much.

  • minnye

Knee length dresses, interesting prints, flattering colors… sign me up. Fave is the 3/4 sleeve sheath, 6th row. I also love the mary janes.

  • enid soto

So pretty. I want two of everything, including the shoes. I’m glad he didn’t style the girls as hipsters, that whole “trend” got old already.

  • I love everything about this collection and want every. single. one. of those pieces.

  • Lindsay McCarthy

It’s a little too “Come and play with us, Danny” for me.

  • jennifervney

    oooh, momma like!

  • SpcilK

    Love it, chic and simple.

  • EEKstl

    Pretty effen spectacular.  Gorge.

  • TieDye64

A lot of this is really pretty. Lovely, as you say. Some interesting accessories would be a great way to add some interest, too.

  • turtleemily

These clothes are absolutely gorgeous, but scrolling through, the brunette has the exact same face in almost all of these. Outfits to stand around catching flies in?

  • pattyw

Let’s play Pin the Dress on Cathy Cambridge.

  • vanjar

I want, with the exception of the ones with lace in it and the granny coat in the first photo, them all in my closet… right now! Great silhouettes and prints.

  • quiltrx

I really like the prints paired with the really clean silhouettes.  I hate the surprised/pissed faces on the models.  Close your damned mouth.

    • Anathema_Device

It has to be the right print, though, which these are. Prints with clean silhouettes can go Talbots and Lilly Pulitzer very quickly, which is fine, but you know what I mean…

  • padma s

Ridiculously pretty EVERYTHING. Also, I covet those shoes. *_*

  • The only thing I can’t get behind is the pink lace overlay on the navy dress, but everything else is beautiful.  And if I could still wear heels I’d ransom something for the heels in the last pic.

  • Sometimes I wish I was a woman, they get to play around so much more, WAH!

  • Anathema_Device

This is all so in my wheelhouse, it hurts.

I need a million dollars and some place fabulous to go, STAT!

  • Lovely is right. If someone put one of each of those looks – sans the three or four lace ones – in my closet and I wore a new one every day then I would be very happy. Just in case someone was looking for a way to make me very happy. sigh..

They really are just stunning and original and chic and lovely. yum!

  • I couldn’t wear the majority of these without looking like a couch, but they are so damn pretty.  Love the color story and the classic silhouettes really harness the prints to let both the print and the wearer shine.  LOVE.

  • j_anson

And really, what girl WOULDN’T want to dress herself in an outfit explicitly inspired by Valley of the Dolls?

  • newtonGOTbeaned

I love these. And the shoes! Awesome.

  • ashpo17

    Love the paisley

  • kimmeister

Ha, his description of his collection sounds like something Austin Scarlett would say!

What I love is that I could actually wear most of these pieces in my every day life!

  • kikisayshi

I want just about everything on this page.

  • Wow.

La Hendricks needs to get her bad self some of these–seriously gorgeous.

    • holdmewhileimnaked

the blue one, third from the top–which is the one i think i like best too.

actually i think that out of all his collections i like this collection the best. i dont always like his work that much but i do here. maybe he’s on the inverse trajectory of stella mccartney these days?

& dont even start me on the shoes, particularly the ones w/ heels that look dipped in smarties & lite-brite pegs. i’ll be scouring ebay if i’m still w/ us around the time they show.

  • giiiirrrr

Now THAT is how you do retro.  Take that, all you literally-minded bitches!

  • homofascist

So editorial! We are going to see these everywhere. Someone at Vogue Korea is drooling right now…

  • guest2visits

The room’s worn sienna patina plays nicely against the deep blues. I feel a flashback to several album covers from the 70s.
All that moody blue, peeling walls, and window sills. The flowery mary janes.  Here’s a word: groovy.
The prints are loud but the styles are simple, elegant.  Especially like the shift in the third frame, the dresses in the last frame,
and the blue and pink dress with the see through back, 11th frame.

    • Qitkat

      Moody Blue(s)

  • I absolutely love this.  And I’m not a big fan of blue and pink.

  • Love da shoes!!!

  • IMNAngryLiberal

I love these prints — it is the type of thing I buy and then never wear because they look smashing on the models and just tragic on me.  🙁

  • Liverpoolgirl

la la la la la LOVE… la la la la LOVE….conga line of joy

  • Qitkat

I’m impressed by a designer who embraced the challenge of this limited palette, which could have gone so very very wrong, and indeed created some lovely dresses. My favorites are the long gown in panel 5, and the dress on the standing model, panel 10. That shot of pink really makes it sing. Fun to put the pattern on the shoes too.

  •  I’m unexpectedly loving the hell out of the floral shoes.

  • I love the pinks. There are some very wearable looks in this collection.

  • God forgive me, I LOVE those shoes.

  • marilyn

This is resort wear?  It looks more like urban daytime wear.

  • Char Crop

Except for the shoes, some of these looks would be stunning on Shelley O.

  • one of each?

  • If I had any money, I would wear a surprising number of these, and they would actually look okay on me. Just my kind of shapes and even colors.

  • Louise Bryan

Me like.  Ah, if only I had 30 years and $300,000 to spend on my wardrobe.

  • I don’t think I’ve felt actual longing for a collection before.  “Lovely” is just the word.

  • Susan Crawford

Very hipster/downtown/Junior League. Love the collection, but I wish the color palette were a little more varied.

  • LOVE this.

  • sockandaphone

    adore the prints here

  • Verascity

I want basically all of this.

  • littlemac8

I saw these dresses and thought many would be appealing to the older ladies like me.  The more I looked the more I realized on an older body those dresses which look elegant on young, lithe bodies would look incredibly dowdy and aging on, for example, Dame Helen.

  • AlieMichelle

  • Kolo_Ol

    oh, gorgeous!

  • Sunshine16

LOVE this!  Please arrange for one of each to be delivered to my closet ASAP

  • Those clothes are so gorgeous, but I have one grouse – only 3 of the looks had a neckline that didn’t hit the collar. If you have a chest at all, high necks are not very flattering. Though I would rip that tank dress and run away with it in a heart beat.

  • Aurumgirl

I like the clothes (but wouldn’t ever wear them, they’re not me) and I love the shoes but now that it’s been mentioned the flawlessly reproduced facial expressions of brainlessness make me laugh.  They’re funny!

  • jblaked

I could easily see several of these looks on Mad Men.

  • sashaychante

On the 17 year old models, these clothes look lovely.  Floral prints really “mature” anyone over 25.  I could however, see someone like Duchess Kathy wearing some of these dresses.

  • Monabel

    Matchy shoes, how 60s.

  • afabulous50

Love the blue skirt/sweater combo 7th photo down…that would be perfect for the events I do.

  • i am not getting amish at all here.  any quilter can tell you that the amish never use prints and they don’t do patchwork.  i do, however, love the florals, and especially like the maxi dresses.  and those print shoes are just too cute!  OTOH, the coat in the first look is making the model look like a barn door.  and i see we are continuing the ugly hair trend.

  • So lovely.

  • CatherineRhodes

  • CMSmith1848

Beautiful – but why do the models have their mouths open in all the pictures? As mom used to say, a fly is going to fly in there if you keep your mouth hanging open!

  • a_liking

    Totally love. Especially that suit!

  • ChaquitaPhilly

I love the prints. Not sure of the silhouettes.

  • Beautiful….

  • “Lovely” is the perfect word.

  • OneTwoThreeFashion

I woudl wear so many of these pieces!! Bold, sexy, modest and romantic at the same time. LOVE the shoes too!
