Darlings, here’s your pretty for the day, a quietly sophisticated editorial from those exotic people in the land of IKEA. We’re tired and we have to put the Mad Style post together for tomorrow, so why don’t you well-trained kittens figure out who made which dress? You didn’t know there’d be a test, did you? Well tough. Come on, you’ve all seen that Gucci dress at least a dozen times on this site. We have faith in you.

The model looks surprisingly… normal (for a model). Am I wrong?

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=610791985 Aniela Marie Perry

Far be it from me to say your opinion is wrong, but she definitely looks like a model to me. :D

      • Mirakel9

Normal??! I don’t even know what that means? She looks like a very thin model to me….

      • http://www.facebook.com/fiddlecub Kevin VanOrd

I understand what you mean. She doesn’t look unnaturally made up, or photoshopped to the extreme, and she has traditional good looks, rather than the round symmetry of some models’ faces. Her hair looks like hair you’d see on a pretty girl walking down the street. In fact, that’s exactly what she looks like to me: an approachable girl next door with a great look.

        • Little_Olive

          Yes, thank you!!

She certainly is beautiful, but does not have one of those super-edgy or super-striking typical model faces. Her expression is also more calm and less posed.

          • TheOriginalLulu

I agree. She also doesn’t look emaciated to me. She looks like a girl who is naturally slim, not unhealthy.

        • Little_Olive

          Yes, thank you!!

      1. Dolce & Gabbana
      2. Gucci
      3. Alexander McQueen
      4. Louis Vuitton (or Marc Jacobs)
      5. Gucci?
      6. Not sure – the accessories point me toward McQueen’s marine collection, the fabric and shape makes me think Marc Jacobs/Louis Vuitton
      7. McQueen for same reason as above, or Armani.
      8. Looks like Valentino
      9. Elie Saab?

      • HomeOfficeGirl

You go, girl.  No idea if you are right, but A for effort anyway!!  I knew the AmcQ from the “hood” thingy…

      • http://twitter.com/Maruchannissin Mare

#5 is Roberto Cavalli but I’m stumped as well about #6,7 and 9.

        • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Thanks! I always get Gucci and Cavalli confused – I find their aesthetics so similar.

          • Little_Olive

They are pretty much the same to me… only Cavalli’s slits are higher ;P

            • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Haha truth – didn’t Cavalli make the infamous JLo gown?

            • holdmewhileimnaked

i dont remember–what i do remember is his stuff from the 70s. i remember it not from the 70s, actually, but from much more recently [i'm a vintage dealer, a tired vintage dealer, but one all the same]. it doesnt look anything like any gucci of any period. & i used to wear a lot of his stuff or stuff that was sold alongside it in the same shops, oh, i dunno, late 80s, maybe? before he was the cavalli he is now– when i could still sort of afford it–

            • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I was wrong – the dress I was thinking of was Versace. But I definitely think she wears a lot of Cavalli.

            • holdmewhileimnaked

depending on whose designing & for which year, which season, cos, oy boy, in the past they have been really different.

        • poketom

6 is chanel, I recognized the sea-shell clutch.
          7 is givenchy
          8 is definitely valentino
9 I am stumped as well! I don’t think it’s Elie Saab though.

          • holdmewhileimnaked

is the dress chanel too? if it is, that collar has gotta be the best thing he’s made in i dont know how long.

            • poketom

yeah the dress is chanel. I personally think it looks like packing material but to each her own :)

      • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

I’m gonna throw Jenny Packham into the mix for #9.

      • http://profiles.google.com/j.allen27 Jennifer Allen

This was a tough one, but I finally figured out 9! It’s Christopher Kane Spring 2012 look 31: http://www.fashionsalade.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/christopher-kane-2.jpg.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Normal in that she’s not wearing much makeup? She looks like your basic genetically photogenically blessed specimen to me.

    • StrandedFashionista

      First is Dolce

Second is GucciBased on the lace cap, I’m saying the third is McQueen
The skirt in the fourth is VuittonThose are the ones I could figure out off the top of my head.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

The third is definitely McQueen. I recognize the ruffled suit.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LI35AZLWSZEYRDZ4PUCBHUCZUI Jonathan

      1 D&G
      2 Gucci
      3 McQueen
      4 Louis Vuitton
      5 Roberto Cavalli
      6 Chanel?
      7 Givenchy?
      8)Valention?
      9 Balmain?

    • Lina_bee

Oooh, the natural look a la 1988, with barely any makeup and straight-ish hair! That’s one element of the 80s that I am content to have come back. o/

      • http://twitter.com/GuidosDaddy Jason M. Galloway

        We lived a VERY different 1988 ;)

        • Lina_bee

Google “Elle Magazine covers, 1988″. Starting in the summer, the trend toward the natural look really got going and lasted through a fair bit of ’89. (I was in modeling classes at the time. This shit was homework.)

    • Anathema_Device

I’m too tired to figure out who made what, but I’m guessing McQueen for that ruffled suit.

These are really beautiful shots of the clothes, by the way. Refreshing change from so many other editorials.

    • MK03

Third has got to be McQueen.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/K3O2QNXDJIU3AJINAGNJRYWDZ4 mrspotts66

i can’t get past the hair in the face thing.
      love the first dress!

      • Mirakel9

Right? I want to give her a barrette! Annoying…

    • http://twitter.com/TMamBo Therese Bohn

TLo, when you recap great editorials, it’s a little fantasy-land for me — especially the pretties for the day.  I know I could never afford any of these, but it’s sure nice to window shop!  Thanks for the pretty! (And the ever fab MM fashion reviews too!)
Now, I reconize #4 as Vuitton, but that’s all I know. I love that skirt, and I also love #’s 8 and 9! Look forward to the correct answers!  Thanks! TMamBo (aka Therese, BoK writer)

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/XZTPYIF64TK3QDEMWUAS3KULFI Ted

First one with all the jewels is clearly Valentino
      Gucci
      McQueen

I have no idea about the rest. I’m guessing the eighth is also Valentino?

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/XZTPYIF64TK3QDEMWUAS3KULFI Ted

snap. first one is clearly D&G. my bad.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

The jeweled one is Dolce & Gabbana, actually.

    • SpcilK

Simple and beautiful focus is totally on the clothes.

    • Qitkat

Finally, a model with hair as thin as mine.

I LOVE the next to the last photograph. The pose, the background, and especially that lovely, ethereal dress.

    • siriuslover

I love the lighting for this shoot. Very beautiful and not weird!  Didn’t Florence Welch wear that flower dress?

    • Elizabeth Wiggs Maas

Not at all related to this post, but did you guys see that Miss Piggy wore the PR outfit on The Bachelorette last night? DEFinitely a WERQ moment for her, IMO.

      • Judy_S

Oh, thanks for letting us know! I am glad she got some use out of it!

      • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

        OMG! Google time…

    • Kate4queen

I don’t know who made it, but I’d like the one second from the bottom please!

      • holdmewhileimnaked

i’m not sure but i think it’s valentino. & i want it too! but i bet it would look better on you…..

otoh, i wonder, if asked, if they would make one for christina hendricks. since i’ve never in my life seen a dress like this on anyone who is built like me–cos theyre not cut to fit us–i wonder how it would look. she’s tall, too. so it might look pretty nice. surely better than some of the things she wears, anyway, particularly if it were well-tailored.

    • texashistorian

Love, love, love, love!!! All of them…

… except the 7th. It looks too bulky. The model is wonderful, too!

    • kimmeister

That silver sequined one (third from bottom) looks like it has a codpiece!

      • holdmewhileimnaked

or, to me anyway? it looks like the bottom of its leotard unsnapped & she doesnt know it came out the front of her skirt. boy will she be embarrassed when she finds out! she’s gonna run to the bathroom & hope nobody noticed but, of course, everybody did & theyre gonna talk about it at work ’til the end of time…..

i really like the dress beneath it. did florence welch wear it at some point? if not, can i? even if so? in my wildest of dreams where i’m six inches taller & have no macromastia whatsoever nor a behind to rival the now dread kim kardashian’s? for once can i wear a type of dress i’ve wanted to wear since i was a nine year old who needed a 36C brassiere which, of course, restricted me from ever ever fitting into the original arpejas & young edwardians & young innocents & on & on that were so wonderful at the time? only when i’m asleep, probably. ah well.

    • Melissa Pickles

she only really shows one or two expressions, but wow, is that last shot totally beautiful. what amazing eyes.

    • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

Nice nipple gems on the D&G (first one).
And wow, yeah, TLo, you HAVE trained us. I knew half of them right away.

    • choco

she looks like a bleached out keira knightley to me esp in the last portrait shot. Gorgeous.

    • MilaXX

I have a bit of the ‘itus from a dinner tasting & 3 glasses of wine. There’s no way I track back who made these even the obviously familiar ones. I fear I’ll have to leave this to my smarter, fellow unborn fawns.

    • A Reeves

I have no clue about who made what, but each shot looks like an oil painting. Beautiful.

    • RzYoung

Oooo so ghostly, I can see Miss Haversham in these

    • fallen_ikon

second to last dress has Florence Welch written all over it..

    • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

I just love this editorial. It’s beautiful, and we actually are able to clearly see the clothing. Well done, Elle Sweden. Well done.

    • Onika K Morris-Alleyne

Gucci, Givenchy, Chanel, Gucci, Armani Prive, Versace, de la Renta, Chanel. I got at least half of that wrong.

    • Call me Bee

I love this!  Have no idea who made which outfit, but they are all beautiful.  Love the fact that the model has natural beauty and that she’s wearing flats!

    • Judy_J

I’m not enough of a fashion pro to hazard a guess about any one of those dresses, but I will say that they are all beautiful!

    • guest2visits

Love all these except the weird cod piece peplum on the sequined outfit.

    • Elias Pineda

      dolce an g   cover
      gucci
      alexander mcqueen
      lv

      lv

      valentino

      :( thats all

    • marilyn

The Swedish idea of style is interesting, but covered up.  Must be the climate.  The first dress has two big fake stones placed where the nipples usually would go.  Thank God the model is sitting with her hands over the crotch area.  Who knows what’s there.  Mini-yikes!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ENBX3563Q4ZNCVRGSJVFIB7OAA Thom

      1) Dolce & Gabbana
      2) Gucci
      3) Alexander McQueen
      4) Skirt by Louis Vuitton, top by Marc Jacobs
      5) Roberto Cavalli
      6) Chanel
      7) Givenchy
      8) Valentino
But #9 is stumping me… any hints/spoilers? Also, while I appreciate how simply the editorial is shot, I’m let down by certain details or accessories (that teardrop handbag) left in the dark.

    • lilazander

      Very ethereal, pretty indeed.

Ha Ha!  I flunked the quiz but I do want the right answers, TLo.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

That’s definitely it. Kudos – I did not figure that one out.
