Cover Girl: Charlize for InStyle Magazine

Posted on May 16, 2012

Charlize takes another moment out of her busy schedule to remind the world that she is fierce as shit.

Charlize Theron covers the June 2012 issue of InStyle magazine photographed by Michelangelo di Battista and styled by Leslie Fremar in a dress by Salvatore Ferragamo.

And that she has a God-given gift for wearing metallics.

On aging: “I see my face and my body changing, and they’re all changes I’m OK with. Part of me understands I may not be in front of the camera forever, and maybe not just because of age, but because of me. I wouldn’t have started my own production company if I didn’t feel that way.”

On being a mom: “Motherhood was something I always knew I wanted to experience. What a great opportunity for someone like me who wants to have a family. I can only hope to be 10 percent of the mom mine was to me. She encouraged me to be confident and enjoy life. That’s what I want for my son. So far I’m not surprised by anything about being a mom. It’s all pretty great – but that’s what I expected.”

On being single/in a relationship: “I’m always open to a relationship, but I’m not putting those feelers out there now. I’m not unhappy with it, but I’m not like, ‘Oh, this is so much better than when I was in a relationship.’ I am a relationship girl. That’s kind of just how I’m made … There’s definitely something in the nature of a man and a woman that makes that challenging, but it was never a huge problem for me. I don’t live my life in a way that feels big. When you’re in my life, it’s actually very contained.”

Love the dress. The hair and makeup make her look like Kim Cattrall. Just saying.

      • foodycatAlicia

YES – I was thinking exactly Kim Cattrall, which kind of indicates that this dress and the styling is all a bit mature for Charlize.

        • LesYeuxHiboux

Isn’t Kim Cattrall known for dressing on the young side?

      • erinbinek

That’s exactly who I though it was and had to do a double take to make sure I was reading the title correctly.  She looks good, just not really like herself here.

    • Susi R

I love her & she looks great!

    • MilaXX

She looks very pretty here, but this somehow feels more like a cosmo cover than InStyle.

      • TieDye64

You’re absolutely right, but she does look great.

    • AmandaCathleen

Gorgeous color, but I kind of like the version on the model better. :3

PS, I had no idea she has a kid. Guess I’m not really up on the latest Hollywood gossip.

      • MilaXX

She’s joined the celeb adopt a baby club

    • Dr Skylaser

What strange blurbs.  But it’s a good dress, and she makes it look like a great dress.

    • judybrowni

Wow, Charlize really makes that dress. Better than a model half her age.

    • Stella Zawistowski

      Stunning, full stop.

    • bloggertobenamedlater

Maybe I’m a communist or something, but I can’t deal with lame. She looks fine, but the dress just reminds me of that sparkly pleather on the seats in my Dad’s bass boat. I can practically feel it sticking to my thighs. It’s probably just me.

      • kimmeister

HAHA at first I read “I can’t deal with lame” and I thought, ‘in what way is CT lame?!?’  Then I realized you meant lamé and laughed at myself.

(BTW, I’m not a fan of lamé either.)

        • foodycatAlicia

How do you do the accents? I can’t figure out the shortcuts.

          • kimmeister

Google “alt codes.”  For the e with an acute accent, you hold down Alt then hit 0233.  If your number pad is embedded in your keyboard like mine is, you also have to push Num Lock first.

          • LesYeuxHiboux

Alt 130 is accent aigu, alt 138 is accent grave. My French degree really comes in handy while commenting on fashion blogs…if nowhere else.

            • bloggertobenamedlater

Now if I could figure out how to type in accents on a blackberry we’d have something.

    • Rand Ortega

      Jeezy Creezy.
Some people win the genetic lottery, & some people win the genetic super lottery.
More proof CT should play Grace Kelly not Nicole Kidman.

    • Uche

I love what they did with the neck. Not feeling that keyhole, though.Maybe if it was slightly smaller.

      • Qitkat

that’s no keyhole, it’s an isoceles triangle!

    • Anathema_Device

That’s a beautiful metallic on her. She looks simultaneously glamorous and natural in this picture. Well done.

    • giiiirrrr

I first saw her in The Italian Job and she was awful in an awful role.  But she has won me over based on two things 1) her HILARIOUS recurring role as Rita on Arrested Development and 2) her ability to wear the shit out of clothes both on the RC and on magazine covers.  I tip my tweed cap and teddy bear backpack to you, Ms. Theron.

    • Lina_bee

Ack, the runway shot is a lamé bath sheet knotted at the bust. That is TERRIBLE (Bad Ferragamo! No cookie!). So glad the dress on the cover is so much better. Also glad they went with copper instead of gold. It seems like she wears gold really a lot, so the copper is kind of refreshing.

    • soren

She looks great but those soundbites are gibberish.

    • guest2visits

Charlize looks wonderful here; as always. But I can’t help but notice the British editions of Vogue, InStyle, and other
European fashion mags seem to create much better ‘looks’ for celebs in their photo images and layouts.   The quality of the
photography is more sharp, more interesting, more put together… more something.  Looking through them gives me the ‘wants’
much more than my US subscriptions.    At least British versions do. I find myself calculating in pounds.

    • alyce1213

I love the color of the dress and would love to see it without the distracting crap all over a white cover.
Nonetheless, she’s stunning and it’s hard to take your eyes off her.

    • PeaceBang

Love the dress and she’s fabulous, but that really doesn’t look like her face. The runway version of the dress is shriek-worthy. Yikes.

    • ccm800

I dont like the cover at all. She looks hard and pedestrian which is unbelievable considering.

    • It Hurt’s To Be In Love

    • EEKstl

She looks great as always and I love that color on her, but it’s like they caught her mid-intention.

    • EditKitten

The dress on the model is awful — utterly shapeless and dull. But the version on Charlize is awesome.

    • bluefish

Love her!  Beautiful, talented, and smart.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

I refuse to believe someone can be that – that lukewarm and contained  – about their life.  Unless she is on some kind of medication that she is not sharing with the rest of the class.
