Christina Hendricks in NYC

Posted on May 09, 2012

It’s amazing what the right jeans, a kickass pair of shoes, and a killer bag can do for a gal.

Christina Hendricks out and about in NYC carrying a Mulberry bag.

 Mulberry Bayswater Leather Bag

Amirite, Christina?

And can we just say how happy we are that you have discovered expensive footwear? We don’t know what brand you’re sporting on your feet but we can tell at a glance they’re of better quality than 90% of the cheapass-looking shoes you’ve worn in public. Well done, girl. It’s a cute little city-street kinda look. Comfy (relatively) and chic.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

      Perfect shades for her too!

      • AmandaCathleen

I was just going to say—the shades are my favorite part of her look! Not everyone can pull off cat-eye frames, but she’s rocking them.

        • http://www.charcoal-ink.com Kagem

Can you ID the shades? I love them. She looks lovely.

    • MissAnnieRN

Perfect.  Dear Christina Hendricks – when you get dressed in the morning, just ask yourself “what would Joanie wear in 2012?” then pick it out and get dressed.  Joanie would totally wear this in 2012.  Stick with that and you’ll do great.  xoxo, Annie

      • AutumnInNY

Perfectly put.  She is such a stunning woman—who looks like a “real”
woman, not a Hollywood version of what most of us are. Though I don’t
know how many actual city blocks she could walk comfortably in those
        (albeit) fabulous looking shoes.

    • Paigealicious

She looks good, but those shoes look super uncomfy.

      • Louise Bryan

Was just going to say, ain’t no comfy in those shoes.

        • cluecat

You can see the arch of her left foot is a few inches off the sole of the shoe.  I am wincing in pain just thinking about that!

          • MissAnnieRN

A lot of my shoes fit that way because I have a high arch.  Your feet develop muscles to support it.

      • Sweetbetty

Absolutely agree.  Even when I was young and wore heels all day in the office and then for an evening out I’d never wear them for a jeans-and-sweater day of shopping or running errands.  Unless she’s just walking from her door to a car then from the car to another place where she’ll be sitting I predict misery within 30 minutes.

    • Lina_bee

what is that weird stray tab on the neckline of the cardigan? Odd. I love that she matched the shoes to her hair but they don’t look at all comfortable.

      • Sweetbetty

I noticed that too.  I also noticed that the neckline of the shirt under the cardigan seemed stretched to one side but then decided it was probably made with an asymmetrical neckline.

This is how the rappers say: Fresh to Death

    • Ozski

Great color combination and good God, she has an amazing mouth.

    • Little_Olive

May I please know where her watch is from? I’ve been looking for a small watch, like my grandma had, for ages!

On and yes, she looks great.   Love the color scheme.

    • http://twitter.com/connectinglines Me Again

I’m a little surprised this merited a post from you guys.  Minus the bag and the shoes, this is what every girl in the country wears to grab groceries.  The shoes are kick-ass, but the bag, although no doubt more expensive than my house, is not that amazing.

      • Jean Marie Downing

Christina gets it wrong so often, I think she needs the encouragement when she doesn’t look like an ill-fitted mess

        • Sobaika Mirza

Makes me wonder if her stylist is the one who gets it wrong, and Christina is adept at working with her body shape.

      • HomeOfficeGirl

She can look so BAD that just seeing her look “normal” – without exloding boobs - is kinda nice.

      • BrooklynBomber

I kinda think that’s the point. So often her dress up clothes don’t flatter her. It’s nice to see her looking so pretty in clothes–everyday though that might be–that fit properly and flatter her.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=500035192 Carolyn Blake

As a fellow curvy girl, I’d love to know what brand of jeans she is wearing!

      • TheOtherChristina

I was wondering that too. Might they be NYDJ? They’re probably something fancier than that.

        • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

I’ve heard so much about them – are they that good?

          • TheOtherChristina

I’d given up on jeans until I discovered them. The only drawback is that they stretch out like crazy over the course of a day. But I say, get thee to a Nordstrom and try some on! I highly recommend them, especially to anybody who wears above a size 12 (which is sort of the point at which the vast denim desert begins.)

            • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

I’m on the wrong continent for Nordstrom, but that’s a hell of a recommendation! I’ll see if I can track them down in the UK.

      • mjude

we would so good in those jeans dont you think?  one pair is all one really needs!

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/4XANEUYM5OZ4VZEFBRQXVYRY4Q Doctor Snoodles

      She looks so cute!

    • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

It’s the mid-level neckline you’ve been begging her to wear! Not a high neck. Not a low neck. A perfect Janie Bryant neck. LOOK HOW PRETTY!

    • UrsNY

Great bag! Wish I could wear shoes like those.

    • suzq

      She looks adorable.

    • Scarlet39

I don’t like it.  It’s all just so random

    • SpcilK

      Underwhelmed.

    • janetjb

I wore the same outfit today minus the fabulous shoes and handbag.

      • VeryClaire

Yesterday for me, including the same color cardigan.

    • Judy_J

Love the turquoise sweater and pink handbag combo.  Shoes are cute, too.  She looks great here.

    • Kathy Schrenk

Even in her grocery-grabbing look, she is divine.

    • l3icest3r

Some women can make a piece of clothing look good no matter what. CH is the opposite. Almost without exception**, everything she wears, including her accessories, looks flimsy and cheap.

      **these shoes

      • l3icest3r

Just wanted to add: This is a crying shame, because she could really rock it if she wanted to. When she looks good, she looks gooooood.

    • http://aldonsusi.blogspot.com/ Susi R

I want the shades and the bag!

    • RuthGo

The shoes are cute but my feet hurt just thinking about walking around in them. And sorry, I’m really done with boring bags that just look like copies of Hermes.

    • http://roughmenstandready.wordpress.com/ Dejah Thoris

Why does it seem as though every “gal on the street” shows them clutching their phones as though it is a weapon? It just seems as though every star,starlet,fame-whore, or what-ever has a phone glued to their palm, even if they are carrying 15 shopping bags, a free purse held in front for advertising, and if applicable an infant or significant other.

      Christina looks happy and lovely.

      • jfrancais

I think they might keep the phones out to ward off the photographers. If they look busy texting or on call about something important, then the photographers, fans, or possible paparazzi might keep their distance.

    • http://twitter.com/arodenha Alli

Best I’ve seen her look in a while. That blue is GORGEOUS on her, especially with the coral shoes.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

      Love those shoes!  Want!

    • TieDye64

Casual and fab. Love it. Now if only I could find jeans that fit like that.

    • rawrgrowlrawr

      She is divine.

    • IMNAngryLiberal

This is probably heresy, but every time I look at her I think that she should have breast reduction surgery.  Her breasts take up so much space on her torso that her waist almost disappears and those puppies look heavy!! At least as uncomfortable as the shoes.

      • TerryMH

I tend to agree.  I may be in the minority but I think she looks sloppy here.  A shapeless sweater and skinny jeans on anyone bigger than a size 6 doesn’t flatter.  Her legs look like sausages.  I think trouser style jeans with a bit of a flare, a tucked in top and skinny belt in accent color and short sweater or jacket might give her a waist.

However, if she’s pregnant than forget all of the above.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

Seriously? If that’s what sausage legs look like, then sign me up. I agree on the shape of the sweater, though.

    • http://twitter.com/dixielou8 Ashley

      Beautiful!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=847525391 Barbara Lee Woodruff

OK, I have outfits just like that, except mine don’t cost many hundreds of dollars. I stay away from skinny jeans, though.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=527150091 Pat Biswanger

I don’t know that I’d call those shoes “comfy.”

    • kimmeister

I love the color of the shoes but not the shape – I don’t like the upturned toes.

    • MK03

Look at those colors on her!! Perfection.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

Very cute, but based on the first picture and the body language, I’m calling pregnant.

      • MilaXX

Nah, That a big boob camouflage pose.

    • MilaXX

She looks absolutely ADORBS! Well done Christina, I covet your bag.

    • megohd

SHE looks great. The clothes I loathe, esp. the sunglasses. Ugh, the 80s are back, and not in a good way.

But the sum is greater than the individual parts.

      And I love the bag.

    • http://twitter.com/ennisamy Amy Ennis

Ugh. If I could have any celebrity body, it would be hers. She is the total package.

      • granddelusion

If I could have any celebrity body, hers would score just above Jack Black’s. And neither would be in the top 10.

        • holdmewhileimnaked

as someone who actually has her body, i couldnt agree much more.

but it’s cos of two reasons:
1/ it’s fairly hard to find clothes that work, especially high end clothes, &, even more
2/ cos of the neverevereverevereverending attention from members of the opposite sex. i mean, i can pretty much guarantee you that no-skinnier-body out there has gotten more of it.

      • Sara-Ann Collins

I’m not sure. From this blog (and my sister who is a similar shape) I have learned it is a body to look at and not to have. It would be a pain in the ass to dress when you don’t have celeb connection, and still hard when you do.

      • formerlyAnon

maybe I’ve been brainwashed by our skinny minny culture, but I don’t think I’d like leading with the boobs, like the figurehead on the prow of an 18th century sailing vessel

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

She looks super cute in skinny jeans, but the cardigan is a little shapeless, making it not terribly well-suited to her shape. Love those shades, though, and her face looks gorgeous.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1629311043 Marjean Fieldhouse

I love Christina Hendricks but that picture is proof positive that cardigans are the work of the devil

    • granddelusion

I would like to not see her bra seams through her clothes. Seems to me this isn’t the first time….

      • Corsetmaker

Hard to avoid if a seamed bra fits her better than a moulded, which is often the case.

That being said, it’s hard to tell but I’m not entirely convinced that bra fits her quite right going by the first picture. She’s terribly guilty of wearing bras that are too small for her. I’ve even read her claim to be a 38DDD…. and there’s no way on earth that’s her proper bra size!

    • beebee10

      ahhh, so relaxed and beautiful!

    • Belvane

She has the most graceful and beautiful hands in show business.

    • Isana Leshchinskaya

wish there were a scarf or necklace, maybe in tangerine or granny smith green

    • erinbinek

I will take those in a size 8 thankyouverymuch.

    • butter nut

      love it!

    • corvina

I think she looks super cute and happy.  No the shoes DON’T look comfy – though I know people who are so used to wearing those kinds of heels they don’t mind them – but they look great.

    • PeaceBang

I really hate the color of that sweater. And I equally as much hate the comments that insist on rating her body instead of her fashion.

    • http://twitter.com/aidanboleyn Aidan B

Absolutely fantastic color scheme on her, and everything fits! This is nearly werq-worthy for her!

    • http://needtherapy.tumblr.com/ skadi1

Her shoes match her hair! I love that!

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/K3O2QNXDJIU3AJINAGNJRYWDZ4 mrspotts66

      adore the bag.

    • AutumnInNY

I just noticed she’s wearing what looks like her “Joan” wristwatch.

    • Zippypie

The jeans and shoes are fantastic.  The top and sweater are horrible bags.  Like the handbag.  Big improvement, getting it half right.

    • PrunellaV

HOW does she keep her skin looking like that?

    • alyce1213

Adore the bag and the shades.
The jeans are an inch too long and little bit too tight/tapered – way too much buckling at bottom.
Both sweaters are nasty and clingy.
She’s a really beautiful woman nonetheless.

      • mstzilla

I like the pants because they look like (Indian) churidars – those are supposed to pleat at the ankle. I think she’s amazingly beautiful but I agree that the sweaters aren’t helping. Non-knits might have been better? (I have a similar build – although I’m certainly not as gorgeous – and it’s so hard to dress it!)

    • Corsetmaker

Not too bad, colours are nice. The cardigan’s a wee bit scruffy and I’m not convinced that bra fits her, but I’ll let her off :D

    • tsid2012

Good outfit with just a few minor fit issues.  Like her bra…. And I can’t get behind those slightly retro shades.  I think a cleaner, simpler look would have been better.

    • Larkin21

      She looks adorable! So pretty!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QZ6NAON37ZMC2IIA33COHYLXYA Josie

Brava, Chrissy!  I just want to run up and hug her.

    • mozzer0906

Shoes and bag are KILLER.  Love the easy breezy look she has about her.

    • kathryn_dc

I think she’d be better served with a more structured jacket in place of the cardigan. Still, soft and pretty!

    • marilyn

I don’t like it.  She is matching her hair to her shoes. Ick.   The shoes are more formal and do not go with jeans and other casual wear.  Her purse is the same pasty color as her skin.  Another Ick.  At this point, I think her hair color is too severe for her skin.  She needs to go a few shades lighter.  Since she is going out in public, would it kill her to do something with her face?  It is too pale.  She looks sickly.  She needs to throw on some blush (which would take all of 15 seconds) before she heads out the door.

Also, I am getting tired of people wearing a purse as a shield, when the rest of the outfit is crap.  No, clutching the purse to your body as a shield will not make it all better.

    • leftcoastpickle

      Sigh, she’s so pretty.

    • ccm800

CUTE! But man that hair is crying out for a break from all the processing.

    • CatherineRhodes

She definitely looks best in tailored, fitted clothes, and I agree, looks adorable here.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MBZQXGWCTBDTAZMEM4S2EJUNUQ Katie

Looks like she’s discovered the color wheel … good for her, she looks awesome.

    • http://twitter.com/Lola99959 Veronika Kaufmann

If these are an improvement on previous cheap-looking shoes, I shudder in horror to think what they looked like. Because these are pretty damn awful.

    • Lisa

The top doesn’t look as tailored as it could be (that’s not a boob joke), it’s kind of messy looking.  From the waist down, perfect!
