Cannes WERQ: Fan Bingbing in Elie Saab Couture

Posted on May 18, 2012

Miss Fan may just come home from Cannes with more WERQs than any other attendee. And as we all know, superstars from around the world flock to Cannes just so that we can assess their outfits and render our judgments.

This look may not be as “Ohmigod, my eyes are coming!” gorgeous as yesterday‘s WERQ but that’s because it’s not nearly as attention-seeking a dress.

Fan Bingbing attends the premiere of ‘De rouille et d’Os’ held at Cannes in an Elie Saab gown accessorized with diamond chandelier earrings, bracelet and cocktail ring by Chopard. Clutch by Salvatore Ferragamo.

Which seems like a silly thing to say about a gown that clearly demands attention. But a lesser lady might not have been able to cut the figure that Miss Bingbing is here. The Way of the WERQ is not merely about picking pretty things to wear; it’s about putting things on and making them WERQ for you, and honeys? This shit is WERQing OVERTIME for Miss Fan. Impeccable.

Brava, Diva! Snaps in a circle!

THIS is how you WERQ a cape. Don’t give me that Goop bs, she has no idea how to deal with clothes. This woman clearly DOES.

    • susu11

yup! Eat your heart out Gwynnie Paltrow!

      • HomeOfficeGirl

I think she beats out Diane Kruger’s ice blue dress in the “arms covered in cloth” dept.  Even though that was a pretty look…if you put these two side by side now, Diane would fade from view.  Loving BingBing!!

  • alyce1213

That cape with off-center turtleneck closure is genius.

    • Marie Ee

omg bada-binging is the best thing I have ever heard

      • ballerinawithagun

        Yes to Bada-Bingbing!

    • Merneith

I’ve never heard of this woman before, but this is what I’m going to call her from now on. Breathtaking!

    • girliecue

As admirers of Miss Bada-Bingbing, does that make us Fan Fans?..

    • girliecue

As admirers of Miss Bada-Bingbing, does that make us Fan Fans?..

  • Natalie

thanks T&LO for featuring her! She’s so underrated because she’s Asian and not as well-known as her Western counterparts but she’s Front Row for Paris for all the major shows and since Cate Blanchett’s not at Cannes (and wasn’t there last year), Ms Fan has been EATING OUT THE COMPETITION at Cannes for Best Dressed.

    • amiomie

THIS. So glad to see an Asian girl on here and I think they should be featured more! and Fan Bingbing is definitely one of the best dressed Asian celebrities and certainly seems the most interested in fashion.

    • Marie Ee

did you guys see her in that red velvet tadashi shoji? FLAWLESS. TLO should post it (even though it’s slightly out of date) just so we can have more Fan fun.

  • Stubenville

She needs a hot ginger handler.

    • MzzPants

Honey, we ALL need a hot ginger handler.

      • brokephilosopher

or perhaps a hot ginger to handle?

        • TheDivineMissAnn

           …or a ginger too hot to handle…

  • Uche

THIS is better than yesterday. Even though it’s similar to her skin color it gives off this ethereal vibe. She gorgeous. I hope the other women and their gays are taking notes.

How are the people behind her not in awe?

  • deathandthestrawberry

I think I found my new girl crush.

She also has the right complexion (I think the dark hair helps too) to wear that color lace that blonde ladystars try but can’t pull off.

  • Anathema_Device

Absolutely stunning and ethereal.  And so different from the previous gown you posted yesterday.

My only quibble is that her lipstick is too orange-y.

  • Randy Noak

It’s gorgeous. It’s not a color I love and I’m over the lace dress thing, but somehow on her it works so well.

  • SpcilK

I have been FAN BINGBING’D! Loving every minute of it.

  • Chason Dailey

nǐ de yī fu zhēn piào liang !

  • Kenneth Warthen

I’m getting such Audrey Hepburn shivers off of this woman… she looks truly stunning.

  • Ivona Foster

Miss Bingbing is kicing  Miss Paltrow’s caped ass

    • Marcie Dreyfuss

      Exactly my thought.

  • Rand Ortega

    “Ohmigod, my eyes are coming!”
While wiping coffee from my monitor, it immediately came to me why TLo doesn’t have a daily/weekly column in a major magazine.
Businesses can’t afford the constant monitor repairs.

Love this lady & her constant WERQ. She’s probably the next import from HK we’re going to see a great deal of. She’s quite the superstar in the East.

(Is that Salman Rushdie in b.g. w/ the lady in white?)

    • joe_tey83

She will forever be Jin Suo to me.

      • Rand Ortega

         Princess Pearl shoutout!!!! Squeeeeee!

        • joe_tey83

I’m thinking, ‘Why is Jin Suo dressing like this? Shouldn’t she be trailing Zi Wei around like a meek little kitten?’ Oh gawd, it’s so damn funny.

  • Tatiana Luján

My only problem with it is that the dress is too long, she needs hemming.

  • Karen Tully

    “Bada-Bingbing” indeed!

That’s one helluva tough dress to pull off and she makes it look effortless.  And it’s gorgeous with her complexion.  That is how you do pale pink.

  • Kristy Evans

Um. SHE IS WEARING A CAPE. She wins at life.

  • TheOriginalLulu

This chick is pretty fabulous isn’t she?

  • rawrgrowlrawr

This may be one of my favorite looks ever posted on this site. I am in awe.

  • Jennifer L.

    Love her hair this time!

  • Sarah Oleksyk

I’m in awe – this woman can do no fashion wrong!

Is it weird that I think she resembles Arya Stark?

    • Marie Ee

  • unbornfawn

Lovely, the girl sure knows how to put together a look. Whoever is dressing you, double their salary and don’t let them go.

  • Ajuna Ariel Fenty

  • MilaXX

    LUV HUH! Werq it gurl!

  • Judy_S

  • Stacy Clarke

I feel like my five-year-old “ohhhhhhhh!”ing at a Disney princess.

  • ChelseaNH

It took me a while to notice the color almost matched her skin tone.  Somehow, it doesn’t seem to matter…

  • Kiltdntiltd

    Purr Feck Shun. Period.

  • lordandtaylor

    It says BRIDAL to me.

  • Susan Crawford

    Beautiful – simply beautiful.

  • julieblue

Fan Bingbing, please, never change your eyebrows.

    • RedRaven617

I thought the exact same thing! So sad that I tweezed and waxed so much in the 70’s and now have no brows at all! I covet hers

      • Rand Ortega

Latisse, darling. It works on brows as well as eyelashes.

  • MzzPants

    Good Lord, she’s fabulous.

  • aimee_parrott

I am officially a Fan Bingbing FAN!  She is just gorgeous, and Serving. It. UP.

  • JimMcC

When this is the less stunning of the dresses you’ve worn IN THE PAST 24 HOURS, we bitches all better just bow the fuck down.

She’s not just winning at Cannes. She’s winning at life.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

    Ok, scoot over.  I’m in.
    Bowing down now…

    • Sara__B

Just wait. Cannes 2012 isn’t finished yet, and neither is Fan BingBing.

  • Susi R

  • anotherkate

Love this! Although I don’t know that I’m in love with that warm orange lip on her. She seems more like an icy red/pink kind of coloring to me…

  • Christy Cricow

Would like to hear the gentlemen address the issue of skin-matching clothes. This is sensationally beautiful, really perfect, and is almost precisely her skintone. Why does this work so beautifully, and others do not?

  • julnyes

Very WERQ worthy indeed though I do have a minor quibble with the orange lip. She is working everything else to the bone.

  • Snailstsichr

I love it all – including the lip color. A dark red might detract from the ethereal vibe that I’m getting. The reflection of the carpet on her purse looks great with the lip color, too. I doubt if that was intentional, but when one is as fantastic as Ms Bingbing, obviously the universe conspires to enhance your divineness.

  • granddelusion

Who is this woman? She is FABulous!

  • mjude

OMG, i am just loving miss bingbing

  • Fifi LaRoux

  • Jessi03

I want to scream the WERQ but am wary of yelling at work.  WERQ, I type loudly instead!

  • marilyn

Gorgeous!  this is how you wear the candlelight mauve-y pink color.

  • Kayceed

She is one of those women with the physical grace to wear couture.

  • Rebecca

This is also how you WERQ a dress that almost matches your skin tone, too.
    She looks incredible!

(…I have a theory that this works better with brunettes/dark-haired ladies as opposed to blondes.)

    • poggi

You may be onto something.  Also I think the texture changes the color too and keeps it form just blending in to her skin.

      • Rebecca

         Yes! That too!

  • TAGinMO

Proving that one should never say never (or that rules were made to be broken, or something)…This dress is the color of old bras, and STILl looks fabulous on her.

    • Spicytomato1

“Color of old bras.” Yes, I think that’s what’s nagging at me. I love every single element of this look…except the color of the gown. I hate to be nitpicky but I keep imagining an eggplant shade, something darker.

    • Laylalola

Luminescent usually isn’t the word that comes to mind when I think “old bra.” 😉

  • MoHub

This woman can do no wrong.

  • AnaRoW

I highly recommend you all Google “Fan Bingbing Cannes 2011”.  She looked just as amazing last year.

  • girliecue

This is such a triviality in all the gloriousness that is Miss Fan Bingbing, but what movie(s) was she in? Are movies even why she is in Cannes? Not that she needs a reason to be there – goddesses certainly do not have to explain themselves to mere mortals – I’m just curious.

  • Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Miss Fan has officially deployed a respectable cape.  Then hell froze over.

  • ErmengardeGreen

    1) “Ohmigod, my eyes are coming!” — wonderful. 2) Fan Bingbing is a really terrific name. 3) To focus on a very minor detail, that bracelet is just the right size for her. I love it when a bracelet slides down on the hand just enough.

  • ccm800

skill level: Asian. This one is the things muses are made of. Gorgeous.

  • kaycem

we clearly need a fashion retrospective on ms. bingbing.

  • greyhoundgirl

Who is this incredibly beautiful person?

  • Lina_bee

So pretty, both she and the outfit.

  • AuntieAnonny

I googled her yesterday and it would seem that every single photo she is in is a WERQ Status Winner.

Bring this girl to Hollywood and give her stylist the key to the city.

  • Christin Pardy-Nosenchuk

Im surprised you didn’t mind the color on her.

  • carolynmo

“my eyes are coming”?! I love you two. And this gal! She’s my new fashion idol.

  • Pamela

Yeah, whatever happened to “skin-colored gowns” criticisms?  It’s a beautiful gown but methinks T-Lo is going soft.

  • Cathy S

    She’s just incredible.

  • Laura Schultz

Dang. She looks fab. Love the manicure, too.

  • kimmeister

I love that she knows how to pose without looking self-conscious or over-the-top vampy.  I also love that she manages to not look dour when she’s not smiling.

  • Puckndc

1000 snaps…this woman knows how to WERq it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…the gown from the other day was fabulishus as well……more from her please!!!!!1

  • luluransom

Good god. All that plus that FACE.

  • Kelli Anderson Taylor

    She can do no wrong.

  • TigerLaverada

This woman never makes a misstep. She’s truly amazing.

  • Funkykatt

$1,500 for a clutch purse. Ludicrous.

  •árez/100002964685796 Josefina Madariaga Suárez

Wow, she looks like she can’t be touched by mere mortals. Bow down!

  • Ass Kicking Adviser

She is quite amazing. I’ll be a fan-fan of Ba-da-bing-bing too.

  • guest2visits

She’s doing wonderful things for this gown. Amazing.  This looks like it would be too much material for anyone but a
7 ft. tall model, but she has given it her own beautiful imprint.

  • Megan Patterson

I would like a lace cape, please.

  • Sophie Collier

YES! YES! OH BABY!!! (Eyegasm)  She is exquisite!

  • Aniela Marie Perry

She looks so beautiful and glamorous here, yet also very natural. A rare and delicate balance.

  • glennethph

No.  The color is like the flesh underneath a scab you futzed with.

  • quiltrx

    Absolutely ethereal!

  • Lilak

That last photo, especially . . . The perfect ‘attitude’ for the ensemble.

  • butterflysunita

  • foodycatAlicia

Most young women would be totally swamped by this dress – it’d look overly mature and Too Much Dress, but this woman totally has the presence and divatude to make the werq WERQ.

  • Laylalola

I missed the earlier werq so when I read “it’s not nearly as attention-seeking a dress” I laughed out loud. Love someone who can pull off Elie Saab.

  • Martha Anderson

she has that presence Audry Hepburn had.  She is new to me and has instantly been put on my “enchanting” list

  • TieDye64

She really has presence. Serving us a full platter of diva glamour.

  • OneTwoThreeFashion

    who is she?

  • Kane Watkins

    • Kane Watkins

       (Pretty, very pretty!)

  • Kane Watkins

     (Pretty, very pretty!)

  • Lisa

    WOWZA!  Fantastic!

  • a Studio by the Sea

Another great turn out.  What I especially like is her mixture of confidence, enthusiasm, and aplomb.  She is happy to be on show and perfectly posed.

  • saanrio

Take note, editors of dictionaries the world over: Replace the current definition of “fabulous” with a picture of Fan BingBing.

    That is all.

  • fursa_saida

I love the black (or dark navy?) nails with this. Adds just the right touch of grounding and edge.

  • Lauren Lynch Fox

An amazing look and a beautiful girl, but a little “grandmom’s curtains” for my taste.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Ms. BingBing is exquisite in this-a porcelain figurine come to life. WERQ it!

  • Chantelle James

I love love love to see what she wears because she looks amazingly put-together at every event she attends. It helps that she’s beautiful, of course, but she also knows how to wear these gorgeous outfits.

  • mozzer0906

    Brava indeed.

  • frankystein123

I can’t tell if her face is naturally that pale or if she applied way too much powder. But other than that, Ms. Fan is indeed killin’ it here.

  • Ksagun13

She’s gorgeous and fierce but I would love it so much more in another color.  I hate flesh-toned dresses.  Maybe they look better in person, but I’ve never seen the appeal.

  • HelloLongBeach

    Her face is so pretty
