Cannes Watch: Salma Hayek in Gucci Première

Posted on May 21, 2012

Ever since Miss Salma married that French billionaire (attagirl), she’s been forced to go out in public wearing clothes from the design houses his company owns, which means she’s been forced into clothes that don’t always suit her. She’s not really built for the more difficult-to-wear Alexander McQueen designs nor has she had much luck with the fussiness of Gucci. Girl needs relatively clean lines for herself.

Salma Hayek attends the “Magascar 3” premiere at Cannes in a Gucci Première gown. Satin clutch by Gucci.

So this dress, in a lot of ways, feels like a return to form. She found the Gucci that works for her. It’s still a bit on the fussy side, but the shape is just right. The only problem we have with it is the bust, which is clearly not enough bust for Salma’s needs. Those muffins look like they hurt. Give those girls some room to breathe and this might’ve been a WERQ post.

  • My boobs are aching in empathy.

    • MoHub

Mine too! What a shame she can’t get a bodice properly tailored to fit the girls. The rest of the dress is spectacular on her.

      •  I know, right? She married a billionaire who happens to own a few of the world’s best known high fashion businesses, and yet her lady-melons are squished in a way that also make my boobs ache in empathy.

        • Rebecca Hatcher

seriously! It looks like they are trying to escape!

  • MaryMitch

She is so beautiful. It’s a shame she doesn’t have a full length mirror.

  • sagecreek

Compared to her recent outings, this is a WERQ squared!

  •  I wish it had stayed that dark shade to the bottom. I also hate the way it bunches around her torso. I like the accessories.

  • This is her best look in ages. Love the color.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Saw a photo of her in this dress showing the back – and it was just gorgeous!!  The color is perfect for her.  But, these shots – from the front…?  It looks silly to have the girls squished so bad.  Some clevage is sexy, but the baby heads… no.

  • SewingSiren

I know she’s hawking the family brand. But the message I get is they don’t know how to fit gowns at Gucci.

  • Oh well, at least she got that out of the way before someone gave it to CHristina Hendricks for a spot of boob-torture. I really like the dress, and I think overall she looks good, but the eye makeup is a bit too much.

  • Not as bad as Amber Rose’s Boobsmasher 4000 bustier dress, but, OUCH!  I love the color and general shape on her, though.

    • Boobsmasher 4000 … love it!

    • Kristin McNamara

      BOOBSMASHER 4000?!??!????
omg that’s gotta be a porno or something already, right?

  • Nailed it, T Lo.

  • MilaXX

Not bad. I wish the bust was better fitted, but I think the push up look is intentional. (Personally I hate it). The face looks great.

  • Candigirl1968

The bust ruins it.  If you have to lift them practically out of the dress to zip, then you need another size, or another dress.

    • Judih1

      you are so right

  • sherrietee

Technically, it doesn’t really hurt to squish the boobs like that, but it does make them look damned unattractive.

  • She’s got the trophy wife blues. Shame really. She used to be so much fun.

  • so even being married to the guy that OWNS Gucci won’t get a curvy girl a flattering dress? Damnnnn

    • filmcricket

Right? This can’t possibly be a case of “They’re just lending it out for some red carpet exposure” (no pun intended). There’s no way she doesn’t own that dress, so why couldn’t they do some proper tailoring on it?

    • For reals.

  • Also, way too much makeup. She’s gorgeous. Doesn’t need that much contouring.

    • Fionnuala Barrett

“Oy with the contouring” was the only thing I thought about this look, right after “baby heads”.

      • makeityourself

    •  YES! The cheek-slash style blush/contouring has never looked good. Unless, as another commenter remarked last week, we’re seeing a return of the Nagel look from 1983.

    • AmandaCathleen

Truly. I honestly barely noticed the dress because I couldn’t get past the garish makeup. Who looks at Salma Hayek’s face and thinks, “We really need to plaster some paint on there”?

  • janetjb

It’s a very nice silhouette on her.

  • SapphoPoet

I like the gold accents of her accessories–the earrings are gorgeous. I agree about the bust, but I think overall she looks really beautiful.

  • butterflysunita

She’s so gorgeous.  Agree about the poorly fitted bust, though.

  • MightyMarshal

This dress makes her look super tall, but the affect is ruined by the ill fitting bust. It makes her look this waisted and wide she she definitely isn’t because the girls can’t be riding high where they should be, and are being pushed down across her chest.

  • bluefish

Hello, Dolly, well hello Dolly … It’s so nice to have you back where you belong.

I mean, really — hot encrusted velvet?  Jamais de la vie.

  • Pennymac

This is soooo her dress from mid-rib cage down. But the top definitely gives me the “Baby Head Blues”

  • Squishy.

  • Beardslee

Love the hem on this because the drape is in the back and the hem isn’t puddling in the front. She can walk in this dress and the proportions are right.

  • svtl

Why are her boobs squashed like she’s hit a glass window? Very disturbing.

  • newtonGOTbeaned

Her face looks stunning. I don’t like the dress on her, though. Even if the bust fit. I just think she needs more youthful, fun looking dresses. I don’t mean mini-dresses or anything, just simple shapes in pretty colors.

  • Beautiful.

  • Snailstsichr

I love her hair and makeup. Stunning. She makes the dress look pretty.

  • BarbaraNovak

He’s a billionaire, for crikey’s sake. Have him buy you a fashion company that understands you.  What’s the point of being a wealthy man’s wife if you can’t buy your own designer?

  • I can’t be the only person who thought to herself Cannes Watch? I think you mean CANS WATCH, amirite?

  • It Hurt’s To Be In Love

  • Cathy S

It’s pretty, but the bust is very unhappy. Let them breathe!

  • DCSheehan

It’s a pity the bottom half is so fussy because it’s half a great gown. She looks gorgeous here though.

  • Yup. Make-up looks better from the wide shot…

  • fringebenefit

Her hair is a work of art!

  • altalinda

You’d think that, at least for the boss’ wife, they’d alter the dress appropriately.

  • Anathema_Device

A good friend of mine who has large breasts complains about tops that give her “quadraboob.” A woman should never look like she has four breasts.

Otherwise, I like the rest of the dress on her.

  • Very belle epoque!  Suits her.

  • tired_mommy

    Salloon girl couture.

  • elizabeth williams

    Saloon Girl.

  • Lina_bee

She looks FABULOUS. So fabulous, in fact, that it makes me weep that they didn’t custom-tailor a version of this for her actual measurements.

  • Nonnah

Her face in the bottom photo says it all …”I know, my boobs don’t look as spectacular as they are.”

  • guest2visits

Salma looks really beautiful in this dress. But yes, it’s hard to say if this is the ‘wrong’ size for that bosom; – since she could
have had it made to any specification… or is it exactly the ‘right’ size as ordered, ?

  • Looks fantastic except for the squashed boobs. Why do the celeb women think shoving their boobs together and up out of their dresses makes them look nice? I don’t understand.

  • CatherineRhodes

    Baby heads.

  • Susan Crawford

Well, Salma’s girls DO look a bit cramped, but they have not reached babyhead proportions. All in all, this dress gets a definite YES from me – the color is magnificent against her skin tone, and the overall design and beadwork is just fantastic. Her hair and make-up are uber-dramatic, but Salma is nothing if not uber-dramatic herself, so I am LOVING this look.

Isn’t it great what a simple marriage to a simple billionaire can do for a girl?

  • quiltrx

What a gorgeous gown.  I bet she still has the marks on her tits.

  • DebbieLovesShoes

But you didn’t mention that her makeup is BEAUTIFUL.  Ridiculous how beautiful that face is.  *sigh*

  • m0r0

Trust me, it doesn’t hurt in the boobs wearing a dress like this.

  • FlamingJune1967

Dang!  That woman is beautiful!!  But apparently her dress was designed by the same people who design mammography machines.

    • TieDye64

Baaaahahaaaa! My boobs ache just reading your comment.

  • TieDye64

Thankfully this doesn’t scream trophy wife or make her look older. She is so damn beautiful.

  • ChristySchiff

Would love to have her clothing problems.

  • RzYoung

    Ach, her poor baps!

  • Aurumgirl

What the hell, your billionaire husband owns all these fashion houses, and they’re forcing you into their sad clothes?  Why is it that none of those houses can’t make clothing ONLY for Salma?  Clothing that suits her to a T?  I mean, what does a person have to do?

  • formerlyAnon

    The hair is FABULOUS.

  • butter nut

she looks like a tired old saloon girl with too much makeup caked on her face.  i don’t know what kind of masterful skills it must require to do that to such a beautiful woman, but whoever put this look together needs a slap.

  • HobbitGirl

The girls look so uncomfortable, but…helLO. She looks fabulous otherwise.

  • Patricia Gillett

You’d think that if hubby owns the fashion houses, they’d make sure the top of the dress and the straps fit properly.

  • ZnSD

Girl, everything is coming up Chi-Chis!

  • blondie65

Well…at least she didn’t wear a stunning necklace that would have drawn attention to how tight the bodice was for ‘the girls’.

  • OneTwoThreeFashion

she looks gorgeous! love the make-up!
