Cannes Watch: Kirsten Dunst in Louis Vuitton

Posted on May 24, 2012

Hey, Ki! If there’s one gal who can make Louis Vuitton pajamas work, it’s you.

Kirsten Dunst arrives at Nice Cote d’Azur Airport to attend the 65th Annual Cannes Film Festival in Louis Vuitton.

Louis Vuitton Resort 2012 Collection

Since you’ve spent most of the last 15 years with a heavy-lidded look on your face like you were struggling to stay awake, and since you like to wear expensive things, what better way to combine your two passions – narcolepsy and luxury goods – into one killer ensemble?

We tease because we love, hon. Actually, this is a pretty chic little traveling look.

  • Quite like it, glad she changed up the pants.

    • TheOriginalLulu

Agreed. The matching pants would have looked silly for walking around in public.

      • AudreysMom

Still, I’m thinking someone like Tilda or Cate could have made them work, and we’d be eying sleepwear for ideas.

  • Ted

nothing will ever beat Ryan Gosling’s pajama-suit look at that award. This come close though. Keep trying, Kristen.

    • understateddiva

yes, I thought of that too!  I actually thought she was trying to parody his look for a second.

    • warontara

Nothing will ever beat Ryan Gosling’s anything, as far as I’m concerned.

  • MilaXX

She looks great. It was pretty smart to wear solid colored pants that kept the look from morphing into people of Walmart territory.

    • AthenaJ

Kirsten would have to have the top almost completely undone, ass hanging out the back, a cigarette in her mouth and an overfed baby in her arms to be considered one of the Walmartians.

  • DeebaCee

I think she looks like she’s about to come clean my hotel room… well, cleaning it fashionably

  • MoHub

    • dress_up_doll

      Good catch!

      • MoHub

I’m a copyeditor by trade. Can’t help myself.

        • MoHub

And it’s been fixed! Moving along. Nothing to see here.

  • bloggertobenamedlater

I like it. Now if she could just push her way past the cameras and step into a really awesome vintage convertible Mercedes, it would be near to perfect staging.

  • nancylee61

How do they even recognize these people with their ratty hair and huge glasses?? I don’t think I would have known it was Dunst at all!

    • DeebaCee

      That’s a purely Kirsten smirk

  • Pants_are_a_must

This is indeed a chic little traveling look, particularly if you dislike the pajamas they give you in First Class. Then you don’t have to change your clothes!

I tease because she bores me.

  • Judy_S

She looks great. Comfy in jammies but presentable.

  • nannypoo

    Must hurry. Late for bowling.

    • AthenaJ

I expect if she turns around, we’ll find her team name ‘The Gutter Gals’ sewn across the back.

  • ihatefacebook

Trying to figure out what activity the model is going to engage in that requires both pajamas and a helmet. Sleep motorcycling?

    • sekushinonyanko

       Taking Ambien recreationally?

    • Little_Olive

I figure hopping on your hip Vespa to get fresh bread first thing in the morning in The Hamptons.

  • Susan Crawford

I love that she didn’t go with the full-on look, and opted for black, slim pants. She has been looking really great lately – actually, she was ROBBED of an Oscar nom for “Melancholia”, and I am still such a bitter kitten over that. I would definitely wear a version of this for a travel day, or even for a fun lunch at a casual restaurant. Very nive work, KiKi!

    • bluefish

I don’t know that she was robbed but I thought she was terrific in Melancolia — and M was a great picture.  She was also terrific in Marie Antoinette — and in the film she made with Gosling about the unresolved murder case.  She’s an interesting actress and oddly beautiful on film — And I so admire her for not rushing off to fix her teeth and substitute them with chiclets.

      • Little_Olive

OH I don’t find them to be chiclets but I love her teeth -esp her prominent fang-, don’t know why. They belong in her face so much.

  • leftcoastpickle

Although I love the shoes, I’m not a fan of pyjamas in public. Ms. Dunst can afford much more presentable clothes of equal comfort.

  • judybrowni

    Ill-fitting pajama top. NO.

  • birkatbaby

love how the arrow is point at her in that last picture.  In case you didn’t know that a celebrity is walking by in her pajamas.

  • I want that bag!

  • I’m actually OK with this, since she just got off the plane – a comfy top and leggings is, IMHO, acceptable plane wear.

The shoes, however, are leftover from 1995.

    • CPK1

Agreed. the shoes are super fugly. Nineties Payless.

  • librarygrrl64

    Nope, still hating the pajamas-as-clothes.

    • ballerinawithagun

      I concur!

  • bluefish

I’m a fan of longstanding of the old-fashioned pajama top look.  With matching helmet! Or is that a matching purse the model is sporting?

  • gsk241

I didn’t know LV made scrubs.

  • I like the shoes, which are really cute, but still look practical for walking around.

  • Do you know the bag/purse?  If I had big money to buy one expensive bag (more than my $300-500 Coach and Dooney bags) I don’t think I would buy that one bag in grey.

    • Qitkat

LOL. To me a $300-$500 bag IS expensive. C’mon. I’m not the only one here am I?

      •  I do only get them as presents, and only once every few years.

I’m talking those $1200-5000 bags.  Those are just insane.  I would have to keep it my entire life.

        • Southern Belle

Yes, I love that bag. Who designed it?

I wait until the $300-$500 bags go on sale. I love designer but struggle to spend more than $150.

          • MilaXX

Pretty sure the bag is LV as well. That’s a pretty classic shape for them. My limit for bags is $500. I lucked up this past weekend and caught a Burberry on sale at Nordstrom rack for $99.

          • My sister has a bag (unused) that she spent $3700 on. If I had $3700, I’d put in a new patio.

          • MilaXX

Wow I need work done in my basement and the estimate is 3.5k So basically your sister has my basement reno sitting in her closet unused.

  • sashaychante

She looks cute…like her sandals…but the top still looks like pajamas to me.  Just a note about her looking heavy lidded and half awake, I thought I heard she struggles with clinical depression poor thing.  It could just be herb induced though…what do I know.

  • NO.

  • Qitkat

She manages to look very chic as you said, but UGH NO A THOUSAND TIMES NO TO THE PAJAMA BLOUSE IT’S SOOO HIDEOUS.

  • too bad i can’t afford to fly any more.  i’ve missed my opportunity to wear my pajamas to puerta vallarta.

  • Little_Olive

Um. I respectfully disagree. Not loving the pj shirt, both as a concept and on her.

  • Corsetmaker

I’m fine with this style as long as it stays pyjama ‘style’ and in vintage menswear-ish fabrics. As soon as it strays into pink flannelette with kittens on I’m all for calling the men in white coats 🙂

  • dsco3031

Don’t love the pattern of the shirt– less “evokes pajamas” and more “actually are pajamas.” However, I love the cut of the shirt. I’d love to see this in a slightly more fitted everyday style.

  • marilyn

I don’t like it.  Too  WalMart-ish for me.   And carrying a purse that looks like it will hold her bowling ball does not help.

  • lilazander

I dislike the PJ top; it’s shapeless and nothing special at all, meh.

  • charlotte

If I were rich, I’d totally wear this. As jammies that is.

  • I think TLo have just titled my first novel:  “Narcolepsy and Luxury Goods.”

  • AWS

The bitch looks comfortable!  Look… I’m no fashion mavin nor have I ever claimed to be.  But if flannel shirts made a come back and that’s all anyone wore for a top and they looked comfortable and happy, I would LOVE that…

  • VioletFem

I guess taking an airplane is the one place that one can go out wearing expensive pajamas.

  • Judy_J

Was she sleeping on the plane?  ‘Cause if she was, the pjs are OK.  Otherwise, leave the pajamas in the bedroom, please.

  • drdirection

    I want that helmet

  • Joyce VG

    Looks like pajamas.

  • When is she gonna lose that awful hair color?

  • SapphoPoet

She looks good. Where is the matching helmet?

  • butter nut

all the pieces together are just quirky enough to actually work on her.

  • littlemac8

Frankly, I prefer this to the painted on pants Ms. Nicole wore for traveling.

  • Judih1

Putting a Louis Vuitton label on what are essentially Walmart pajamas is ludricrous. I thought the LV label meant style and quality

  • Call me Bee

A perfect traveling look.  So happy she left the PJ pants at home.

  • TieDye64

Huh. This actually works on her. Cute.

  • RzYoung

Oh I love that bag! I wish I was in the South of France right now

  • schoep

She looks like an old lady.  Yuck.  Hate.

  • guest2visits

I kind of hate everything about this look on Kirsten. The top half looks good on the model because of the cardi, which covers
the awful sleeves, and slims the wide, double breasted cut of this icky pj top. Even the print and the material look cheesy.
    I think some pj and lounge wear can look sexy, but not this one.  The model also looks more polished with her hair and lip color;
that helps elevate the whole look.   The bag looks plastic against Kirsten. Even the shades look cheap.
I do like her shoes with her polished toes.

  • Jammies!

  • fursa_saida

In the close-up shot of her face, she looks a little bit like the GOOP, no?

  • Cannot get behind the whole wearing pj’s out thing. Sorry. It just looks like grandma went off her meds and is wandering around in the streets of Palm Beach.
