Cannes In or Out: Berenice Bejo in Prada

Posted on May 22, 2012

YES! If there’s one thing we love here at T Lo’s World of Things to Love, LLC, it’s dresses that DEMAND an opinion from you.

Berenice Bejo? Please step forward.

By the way, we love saying “Berenice Bejo.”

Berenice Bejo attends the premiere of “Lawless” during the 65th Annual Cannes Film Festival in Prada paired with Chopard jewelry.

You can’t NOT have an opinion on this one, can you? It’s like that bitch of a dress is taunting us all. Let’s break this mother down.

There’s just way too much going on this dress. That bodice is a salute to ADHD. Someone needed to physically yank Miuccia away from the notion bins before this whole thing collapses under the weight of all that embellishment. Having said that, it’s certainly striking, isn’t it? We love the colors, but we think there better ways of combining them. That skirt didn’t need to be two-toned AND pleated. And besides, it looks like she’s wearing a formal apron. As for her head, we dig the idea behind a beachy look in the hair and makeup for Cannes. It’s the Riviera, after all. We just don’t think this is the gown for it.

Now comes the portion of our program where you, the viewer at home, get to have your say. This dress DEMANDS you tell it what you think of it.

Vote Now!

IN! I LOVE THIS LOOK!

OUT! Glue-gun extravaganza. And put on some makeup, girl.

The minions with opinions could NOT get behind K Stew’s ill-fitting pants and top, voting the look OUT.

OK…I take back what I said in the Diane Kruger post.  The stars are NOT showing up better than they do on Oscar night.

Do I like the dress?  No.

      Does Berenice look fabulous?  Yes.

    • DinaSews

Too many no’s to list them all here.  OUT.

    • mjude

      no…OUT

    • Isana Leshchinskaya

too much dress for her, probably for most people. i like the hair and makeup but not with this dress. maybe with some caftan-y michael costello creation.

    • Scarlet39

      Out.

      It’s  just an ugly dress.

    • Marissa Wiley

There’s something lovely about her, but this dress is a travesty.  Agreeing with the uncles, the colors are nice, but way there is too much going on.  Worst of all, the dress does her no favors.  She looks wide and saggy.  Her hair and makeup look fresh.  But still, OUT.

      • http://onionjam.tumblr.com SkipperJane

I agree.  I like the colors, but the top and bottom don’t match, and it’s sitting way too low on her bodice.  OUT.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/toodleskitty79?feature=guide AWS

Ill-fitting and unflattering.  Love hair and light make-up (it’s DAYtime for Christ’s sakes bitches!).

      OUT

OUT! The bodice doesn’t fit, and way too much going. Plus, I hate that her pedi matches, as does her clutch, but to different parts of the dress.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/UTGALURO3K2NWLDN2A3SWHGMRA Lindsay

I like the colors, the bodice does have a bit too much going on. Out. Plus, I feel like it’s going to slip off of her at any minute.. it’s ill fitting.

      • carolynmo

I’m with Lindsay. It doesn’t fit her properly at all. It doesn’t flatter her.

        • angryparsnip

I too agree with Lindsay and carolynmo .. all I want to do is go tug the bodice up !
One more breath and it a opps !

          cheers,  parsnip

OUT. Sorry BB, but that dress is doing weird things to your shape and the “beachy” hair is too close to “post-hot-yoga” hair for my taste. Love the colors, though.

      • Libby Rhoman

Actually to me it looks like she just slept with her hair in braids.  It’s making me twitchy.

    • muzan-e

The bodice is killing this: if it were much longer in the waist – that is, nudged up a few inches –

But the thing is that she’s loving it so much that I hardly notice. At first and second and third longer look, all I see is the windswept hair and the joyful grin and even the skirt’s loveliness when it’s in motion.  On anyone else – in any other moment – I’d despise the thing on general principles. But this is magical.

      • Comus

Fantastically well said : totally agree … the bodice is gravity in action, pulling down the whole dress.  Berenice Bejo is such a glowingly beautiful woman here, that she is persuasive in a Frankenstein’s creation that would be a frock horror on someone else : IN.

    • http://www.katidom.com/ Kati B

Imagine if the skirt had been solid dark blue. It would have been lovely. She looks gorgeous – love her freckles and hair (way better than the processed color during awards season). But the dress is OUT.

OUT.  The top looks like it is sitting too low.  The roses on the seam look like her 2 year old hot glue gunned them there.  The skirt gives the appearance as if she has curtains parting to welcome you to her vajajay.

OH!  The pleats!  That’s the first major ding.  Then the color blocking AROUND the hips – that’s just cruel.  Low, doopy bust – that’s unfortunate.  The beachy hair is nice – she looks like she has a slight buzz and is enjoying the breeze.  So, good for her.  But the dress?  No.  no.  no…..

Here’s my quandry.  I really dislike the dress (less is more ppl), but she looks really good.  Somehow this feels like a home-sewers knock off of something they saw in a design magazine. Or something that just didn’t translate from sketch to execution.

Besides being ridiculously busy, that bodice is unflattering.  She looks happy, but her outfit is an OUTfit.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ginny-Ellsworth/534496198 Ginny Ellsworth

Doesn’t she look like Bianca Jagger? The colors are gorgeous and her hair looks beautifully natural. Not sure about the turquoise toes in gold shoes though. And the armored bra top makes me think she wants in the next “Avengers” movie.

    • http://twitter.com/Kathy_Marlow Kathy Marlow

The dress needs to be fitted a little better, longer waist, no pleating..color-blocking done a little better. But she still looks great..still, an OUT

    • MK03

That is an aggressively ugly dress.

      • MilaXX

         exactly, it’s a fashion slap

      • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

I was just thinking that it was an evil, evil dress because it makes the radiant BB look kind of ridiculous and that’s a crime. I cannot believe that it’s Prada. Someone needs to be fired.

    • Judy_S

Great post. OUT, solely on the basis of the hideousness of the dress.

    • kelsita421

Love the colors, but that’s not saving the dress. And isn’t it sitting rather low on her? OUT.

    • TheOriginalLulu

Part of me is saying EW no! This dress is too busy! She’s hurting my eyes!
The other part of me is all, Quit being cranky old bat! This dress just screams SPRING! Look how breezy and beautiful she looks!
I think what’s winning me over here is her apparent happiness and confidence. You get an IN girl!

    • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

That dress hates me and is attacking my eyes.

      (Translation: Out)

    • Aurumgirl

That dress highlights back fat on a slender woman, and it makes her hips look like billboards.  Plus, the top sags and pulls down, so we know she will be struggling with it continuously all night long.  Out.

    • msdamselfly

Simply gorgeous dress but the fit on the bodice is unflattering IN

    • http://twitter.com/starlounging Ann M. Erickson

I want to give her an IN for wearing a smile with all of that…

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Linda-Ritchie-Unger/1497801615 Linda Ritchie Unger

Another dress that thickens the waist, grrr.  It doesn’t look as if it were fitted on her.  I would not mind the dress so much if the bodice were less busy (nothing needs studs, embroidery, appliqued flowers AND shisha mirrors) and if the coral overskirt were torn off.  And then burned.  And lose the bow on the back waist while you’re at it.

    • Snailstsichr

If she were to raise her arms over her head, we’d all get a show. She is too pretty for this hot mess. OUT

I’d just love a knee length skirt out of the aqua to wear with a snappy white sailor top so I could pretend I was going dancing with Donald O’Connor. Sorry, but that’s all I can think about when I look at this.

    • TheLaurenJean

Oh, god, no. no, no, no, no NO! How did this happen? Just extra hideous.

    • http://twitter.com/ajhan Angie J. Han

OUT because the dress is hideous, but Bejo just looks so happy that she comes surprisingly close to selling it anyway.

    • uprightcitizen

Either she’s put on forty pounds since making “The Artist” or that ugly, unfortunate dress is adding them out of spite. I suspect it’s the latter, and this dress would make an Olsen twin appear to have a normal head-to-body ratio. No comment about the pale teal matching toenails, TLo?

    • Judy_J

      HID-EEEE-OUS.  OUT.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=4501978 Martha Jackson Deutsch

OUT. I could take it with a single color, non-pleated bottom, but like this it’s too much. I like the hair and make-up, though.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1253053236 Belle Burnett

      Oooh, so close.
I agree that the colors are FANTASTIC, and in fact I love the top half. The busy bodice is too busy, but I imagine it’s fun to look at in person, and also to play with. You get bored, you look down, “hey, that’s neat!”
The skirt. NO, I just can’t. Between the 2-tone and the pleats…and the “apron effect,” it’s just all wrong. Also, is she wearing a belt? If so, I want it, she certainly doesn’t need it.
Pretty face, pretty hair, possibly more suited for a swimsuit shoot, but pretty anyways.

      So, um, NO.

    • MzzPants

I kept scrolling, waiting for the more flattering photo.  It never arrived.  OUT.

    • slightlybitterkitten

Here’s the deal:  I love this dress in theory.  Embellish away!  Why not have a bustier that looks wrought of Mexican tiles?  Also, I love the colors.  But…. I don’t like the silhouette or the proportions or the fit or the foundational undergarments.  OUT.

    • http://twitter.com/anywhoo Leigh David

Are there Bedazzlers in the swag bags?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LI35AZLWSZEYRDZ4PUCBHUCZUI Jonathan

The way the skirt is color blocked it looks like it was an good china revealing short mullet dress and they didn’t have any pink fabric on hand so it was a make it work moment with the green fabric you know Prada by way of Project Runway, I kind of feel like a modified version of the bodice could work with a plain skirt, or that the skirt could work with a colorblocked top preferably one that incorporated a middle color into the mix and was a bit more laid back. I also feel like all copies of that belt need to be burned. It looks like wax flowers and chandelier bling.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LI35AZLWSZEYRDZ4PUCBHUCZUI Jonathan

      so Out i guess?

    • Lina_bee

OUT. It would be an in IF IT FIT & if you took a third of the embellishments off the bodice. I’m dubious about the pleating, but it might work if you fixed points A & B.  I like the hair and makeup and I love the colors. BB is lovely and seems very real, which I appreciate. Miucca needs an intervention.

    • Laurie Bergman

Her whole look, with the breezy hair, minimal makeup and just-taking-an-evening-stroll-on-the-red-carpet strut, is working for me, even though that patchwork and colorblocking chaos shouldn’t exist in a rational world.  The dress on its own is no WERQ, but her confident attitude totally is. I give her an IN.

    • Nayasabrina

      Melting spumoni.  OUT

Editing needed as follows:  make the whole skirt that red color & hike the dress up a bit & I love it!  Pull the beachy hair back into a loose pony of braind & I love that too.  Please dear, do listen

    • JenniferSzczublewski

She looks so radiant with her fresh face and wind-blown hair, she’d look good in just about any silly thing. Not a big fan of the dress though, honestly. It is awfully busy, and there’s something about the bodice/waistline that makes me want to hike it all up a few inches for her. She’s so gorgeous though, she could wear a garbage bag here and I wouldn’t critique her too harshly for it.

    • http://twitter.com/TMamBo Therese Bohn

I say in! I like it.  Period.

    • http://twitter.com/alienspouse Jen Alien-Spouse

I think if there had been some Regency styling, along the lines of Barbra Streisand in “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever”, then it might have worked. But like this? No.

    • JMansm

“Someone needed to physically yank Miuccia away from the notion bins before this whole thing collapses under the weight of all that embellishment.” I LOVE YOU GUYS.It is a lot of look but she’s the right girl to pull it off I think. IN.

    • http://teabagsinfusion.blogspot.com/ Laura Toepfer

My heart cries “OUT.” I would vote in if I were only seeing this dress from the back. That two-tone skirt thing…cannot. I just can’t. And I want to hike up her bodice.

    • kikisayshi

OUT. I like all the individual elements of the dress, but the pleating makes her hips look huge and I don’t think it’s fitted well at the top.

    • http://twitter.com/noshadejustT Teri

Out. That dress is not being nice to her figure. I can handle a glue-gun extravaganza, just so long as its flattering to a body shape. This is not that.

    • marilyn

OUT.  Too busy and not flattering to her.  Makes her hips look big.

    • http://twitter.com/lemonfreshmoxie Donna Lee

I WANT to love this but the bodice is slipping way too low and it’s too ProjectRunwayAngelaGrannyCircle genre.  OUT.

    • belfebe

Berenice Bejo can do no wrong.  There, I said it.  Having said that, the dress looks like it was designed by Miss Clinique of Project Runway.  Inneresting, but not necessarily in a good way.  But I still love La Bejo.

      • emcat8

Oh my god. You’re right. Miss Clinique!

        • belfebe

          She is, isn’t she?

    • Le_Sigh

I am mixed on this.  On one hand, I want to yank the thing up so it sits on her bust properly.  Also, all the embellishments are making her look really thick with no waist.

On the other, face and hair are lovely and Cannes-propro.  And the dress colors are fun and Cannes-propro.

But, all together, the whole package seems unfinished – its like she just came back from an awesome beach day to try on the dress for a fitting.  And then realized she had to be on the red carpet before they could

OUT with caveats.  Good elements, bad mixing.

    • MilaXX

OUT! This dress is one big shoulda, coulda. Pick either the red or the teal for the skirt, lose the bow/strip of material on the back, the florshons need to go and the boob border can beat it as well. What’s left *might* make a cute dress.

    • Hillary Matlin

To me this says, “oh poodles**t I fell asleep on the beach and woke up and it’s fifteen minutes to my next appearance. Ergo, I will use my bathing suit as a top and step into that sarong I have floating in my beach bag, wrap the bag shoulder strap around my waist and use this lipgloss for all my makeup needs. Tada – glamour macgyver!”

    • Joanna Schuth

If it were better fitted and the skirt was all that blue, it’d almost be a WERQ. She just seems so breezy and lovely here, though, it’s hard to hate it.

    • http://profiles.google.com/anplica Anplica Fiore

Out – love the idea of the peach & blue together, but not in this dress.  I’d have liked it better with a solid peach skirt with all that going on up top.

    • Lilithcat

IN!  There may be a lot going on, but for some reason, it works.

    • AlexisPayne

No, the bodice looks totally weighed down and the pleats in the two tone widen her bottom half, and while I too love beachy effortless hair, it does not work with this look.
      Out.

    • holdmewhileimnaked

sans one or two foos & faraws & gees & gaws, you know, i would probably really like this dress. but not the way she’s wearing, & less for the effluvia than for the fact that it simply does not fit. that bodice is so wrong & so irritating it makes me wanna climb through my screen, pull it up, tuck the middle in & stick yr pal bejo, there, into a real solid non-spanx longline brassiere. so theres that.

    • sashaychante

OUT  The two tone skirt doesn’t work on this dress.  Breaks up the line and it’s hard to know where to look.  Unfortunately, this dress is making her look a bit saggy, which she mostly likely is not.  Fit could be better.  I like the natural hair and makeup.

    • IMNAngryLiberal

OUT … I really like Berenice, but this dress just got uglier and uglier the longer I looked at it … finally had to drop down to the comments section to avoid going blind.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_RHLSUVX3NCPB4OSS5BM7GZIXUE P. Capet

i like that it’s extremely playful and i like her sense of fun, but still a big MAIS NON!

    • butterflysunita

IN.  I don’t like the dress, but look at that smile and attitude!  Finally someone who’s happy to be on the red carpet.  And kudos to her for trying something different and not boring us.  Plus she looks beautiful.

    • jw_ny

      OUT

That bodice…ugly as sin, and sitting too low.  Not flattering to her chest or abdomen.  The flowers on the belt..silly.  Why is she carrying a folded up pink dinner napkin?

      • poggi

Sorry, should have read before posting.  I thought the same thing–dinner napkin!

    • Ogden1990

Berenice tapped dance in a movie, and I will always love her for that, but she’s just one time step away from wearing that dress around her ankles.

    • TieDye64

Oh, hell no. The bodice looks cheap, tacky and it’s unflattering. The skirt? Well, it literally made me laugh. It looks silly.

      OUT

    • Spicytomato1

Ooh, wow, where to start. I want to love this dress but the big negative for me is not the uber-embellished bodice (which seems to be sitting too low and isn’t supportive enough) but the two-toned skirt. That color combination brings Mad Men’s recent excursion to Howard Johnson’s to mind. Plus, the way the two colors meet is extremely unflattering. It seems a solid colored skirt, preferably in a dark hue, would improve this gown tremendously.

As for hair and makeup, I agree that more polished hair would have worked better with this dress, maybe a simple ponytail. Love her fresh face, though. All in all, though, I think I have to regretfully give this look an OUT.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Hey you! Yeah, you, the dress with the pleats. I’m talking to you. Wadda ya mean, you can’t hear me? Could that be because you’re too loud yourself? Go home, loud dress, and bother me no more.

    • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

I actually likenotlove it but want to yank up that bodice a couple of inches. So I’m going to have to tip into OUT territory because of the fit.

    • crash1212

Wow. This dress scores exceedingly high on the hideousity scale. Are those ROSEBUDS at the waist??!! Yikes. SO bad. She’s quite cute and looks happy. Her outfit is quite ugly and makes me sad. Also, how does one keep the boobs inside a bodice that is SO ill fitting? Seems like one false move and….hello boobs! Just…no. Also – OUT.

    • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

Out. This is the dumpster diving result of a Project Runway challenge.

    • dulcian

OUT OUT OUT.  Poor Berenice looks like she has no waist at all, an extremely short torso, and an enormous bum, and that’s all the dress’s fault because I’m sure none of those things is actually true.

    • MsKitty

That bodice is so low all I can see is someone stepping on the hem and *poof* instant wardrobe malfunction. And the colors and print make my eyes itch.

      OUT.

    • lonepear

I am just itching to yank that bodice up a few inches, except that it looks like it’s ill-fitted enough that it wouldn’t stay there. A pity, because I do think the dress could be cute if it actually fit.

    • dsco3031

Out…the fit is terrible and the shape does nothing for her.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2P2ANLRZ6YAVGONA36I2AQJYGI VicD

      OH HELL NO!  Out.

    • Trisha26

As someone who doesn’t like a lot of color I actually like this and don’t mind the embellishments. However, it’s too long, the pleats are too much (why not the same 2 colors in chiffon?), and the bodice fits oddly, like there isn’t enough of it or something. In the top 2 photos it looks about to fall off and in the 2nd from bottom it makes her look not “fat” but thick.

    • SewingSiren

Make a gown out of an old Howard Johnson’s uniform and a lampshade from a whore house. You have 15 min to sketch and 30 min to sew. Go.

    • filmcricket

      Interesting idea, terrible execution. Out.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

Besides removing all the notions, the bodice needs to be hiked up and fitted better at the waist. If that was done, I think I could live with the two-tone and the pleats.

    • Sara__B

Out. The front of the bodice doesn’t have enough support, so it’s riding too low, which makes the waist too low as well. Or maybe it’s the weight of all the crap glued to the bodice that drags it down. The closer I look, the worse it gets.

      • poggi

Yes!  and why is she holding a dinner napkin?  Out.

    • Cathy S

      No, that’s definitely out.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bethany-Roullett/100000413803142 Bethany Roullett

Going with OUT.  I almost think I would like it better with just one color in the skirt, and then I think…. no.

    • Larkin21

There’s a lot I like about this dress but there’s also a lot about it that makes her look thick and she certainly is not. I think removing the pleats would make this an in look but as is, it’s just too much. OUT.

    • http://twitter.com/mirrormirrorxx Paola Thomas

The woman has no waist (it’s not a crime, I don’t have one either).  But in that case you don’t wear a dress which is all about highlighting an hourglass figure, you skim over the waist as discreetly as possible and highlight something else.

    • Anathema_Device

You know, she almost sold me on this. She looks so comfortable, at ease, and happy here. Then I looked again: I do like the color combo, but the pleated, two-tone skirt plus the poor fitting bodice move this to the Out category for me. Kind of close, though.

    • http://opinionandamovie.blogspot.com/ Deitra S.

Oh, so, OUT!  Aside from the rampant bedazzling the proportion is all off and makes her look thick-waisted.  THE HORROR!!!

    • judybrowni

OUT: She bought it on Etsy, or assembled it herself in a backroom at Michaels.

    • Julie Fountain

I don’t think this dress flatters her figure at all, and that’s a shame because she’s got a lovely figure.  And it isn’t a case of “girl that’s not your dress.”  This isn’t anybody’s dress. OUT.

Out…way out. Way to much thrown into the mix. The pleats were a really bad idea.

    • Jessica O’Connell

OUT. If the dress hadn’t be two-toned I could have gotten behind this, but that just pushed it too far over the edge.

    • RebeccaKW

I love the colors, but the top is odd.  Gives her no shape.  Plus all the shit glued to it.  I like the hair and makeup but not for this look.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

      OUT.
But wait, I have something to say…
This dress does not fit BB. It’s so ill fitting on top that it’s about to slide off her and it is making her look big – which is impossible – because she isn’t. The second to last photo – oh so sad – her torso looks sad and tired from the wait of the rick-rack. If Miuccia had perhaps left off the heart of ribbon, if she had the skirt a solid, pleated coral with no aqua, if it fit poor BB, if, if, if…lost opportunites.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/GTG3A5BVL3JGIFT5M4MSPWYNCM Mathilde

My only real complain is that it makes her chest look a little weird. Other than that, loving it ! IN.

    • Kirsten Henry

      in!

OUT.  It makes her look fat.  Which she is not.

    • http://roughmenstandready.wordpress.com/ Dejah Thoris

      Oh…my, that’s, um. wow.

She looks lovely from the neck up.

There, I started with something positive. However, I strongly feel that dress should be treated as HAZMAT, and dealt with accordingly.

    • http://twitter.com/rappenwolf Susan Rappenwolf

All I can think of is “Pull up the bodice, babe!” Can’t get beyond that.

    • bailey debruynkops

I wish the bodice were hoisted up and firmly sitting on her hips, and agree that the skirt didn’t need to be pleated, but the colors and idea alone get it an IN

    • Jecca2244

i am more concerned with the fact that i doesn’t fit on the top. or at least doesn’t do anything for her.

    • chelwi

Out. Can’t stand the dress. Looks like it’s slipping off her chest.

    • siriuslover

I was going to give it an IN until I read your post. But…. even though I think the bodice needs to be yanked up, and though I agree about the pleats, I just can’t give it an out. I’m probably one of the few, but I give her an IN.

    • newleaf1

Nu-uh.  It’s strange, makes her look big and looks like it’s falling down.  Triple out.

    • Spreecord

It’s not even that the bodice fits her poorly (which it does), but that the bodice looks like it’s a different size than the rest of the dress, period.

The back cleave isn’t a great look, either.

    • aimee_parrott

I love Berenice, but this dress?  I do not love it.  The multi-colored pleating is making my eyes twitch.  OUT.

    • http://www.MintaHall.com/ Minta Hall

OUT.  You know, Style network was re-running Project Runway yesterday, and particularly the season with Santino. This dress looks like several of his designs–except this dress is FAR more restrained than Santino ever was.  And it’s still too over-the-top with embellishments and notions and frills and pleats and colors and prints and layers and…and…and…

Hiddy. And it doesn’t fit. Double-hiddy.

    • Briana Campbell

I actually love everything about this dress…well, except for the way it is fitting her.  At the chest, it looks like it’s falling off of her, which is then making the waist hit her at an unfortunate spot.

    • RoxieRider

A deeply deeply reluctant out. I love everything this look is going for. I actually think it… I’m going to get pilloried for this, but I think it might have been an interesting look with harem pants. Assuming the bodice proportions were corrected. I love the colors and the ideas behind all of it, I like her hair, and I love how she’s working it, but in the end it’s seriously unflattering. Which is one of the only reasons I’ll give anything an out, really.

    • kimmeister

I *might’ve* been able to get behind this had the skirt been only salmon colored.  The placement of the aqua blocking is making her lower half look huge.  Out.

    • http://twitter.com/delysia_lafosse Delysia LaFosse

I like the idea of this dress. I like the salmon pink and Tiffany blue. I even like parts of the bodice. What I really can’t get past is the fit. Berenice has a lovely figure, but this dress just turned her into a tube from tits to hips. The bodice is riding too low (a pervasive problem for ladies in strapless gowns, apparently) and there is just no definition at all. If she had worn this dress as-is, homage to Jo-Ann’s Fabrics and all, with a better fit, I would have applauded her, but I can’t sign off on that silhouette. OUT.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

OUT.  Hideous dress – wonky bodice (I just want to YANK it up!), ugly skirt, matchy clutch.  Hair is okay but makeup is too subtle for this much dress.  I can’t imagine anyone wearing this one well.  OUT.

I can’t think when I have seen a more unflattering dress. Hideous.

    • butter nut

OUTbut.  i want to like it.  it’s got a lot of great elements &, honestly, if she just pulled it up a couple inches, this could bedecent.  but as is, it looks sloppy & wrong.

    • emcat8

Gasp! TLo, I’m shocked you didn’t mention that her toenails match the minty/aqua portion of the dress!

The only thing I can’t really get behind is that it looks like it’s slipping off her ta-tas. That always makes me nervous.

    • piecesofconfetti

Ahh, I don’t know. She’s so gorgeous and I like elements of the dress, but I think the pleated two-toned skirt is not working. A reluctant OUT

    • rumcg66

OUT. And not so much for the bodice, although it is certainly a bit busy… but damn, that 2 toned, pleated skirt is horrible. The bodice could have worked with a simpler skirt.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Strange, this is one time where the attitude just can’t make it WERQ. She looks comfortable and confident and the dress just doesn’t work.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I want to like the dress but I can’t. Sorry BB! I’m not in love with the hair, but I think the makeup looks beautiful.

    • petalfrog

The dress is holding on for dear life… how can something strapless fit on a bust yet be SO low?

    • veronkimo

OUT. The top is sitting so low on her. That combined with the pleating is making her hips look huge. I think if it was pulled slightly higher, it may have looked better. But, I don’t know what you all are talking about… The skirt is so bad; it’s so loose and the day looks windy that it is getting shoved between her legs. It just looks bad. Plus, there really isn’t any symmetry between the way the color changes from one side of the skirt to the other. One is very much a rounded curve and the other looks like a sharp 90 degree angle.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=2066192 Melissa Mellon

I love me some embellishment, but, yeah, you had me at “that skirt didn’t need to be two-toned AND pleated.” Case closed.

    • Tracy_Flick

I want to love this, I really do. It’s so nice to see color. But the bodice looks like it’s sliding down (the fact that it’s too long isn’t helping on that front), and the color blocking makes her look wide. Plus, what’s with the matchy toenails?

She looks like she’d be fun to have a drink with. But OUT.

I like the colors on her: I love the skirt, am not sold on the bodice, but like it well enough overall. I don’t like how low it sits on her: it makes her look much thicker and ‘droopier’ than she has to be. I like how beachy her hair and makeup are… I’ll give her a tentative ‘in’.

The bodice is too low, I want to yank it up a good 2 inches. It makes her boobs look low and droopy and the way the colors go around her hips on the skirt is hella unflattering. Don’t even get me started on that clutch. Awful, looks like she squeezed it to death, I hate it.

OUT. This dress is a hot mess. It’s hanging too low at the boobs. The bodice has way too much crap on it and it looks like crap, Did Becky HomeEcy design this dress? The coral overlay is adding feet, not inches to her hips. I don’t like the color combination. And the hem is pooling on the floor. The whole thing looks like it needs to be hoisted up.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=12331205 Aaron Fancey

I have to say I love the daring of this dress, even though the total effect is a bit messy.  My chief concern: the bust, and entire waist, is sitting too low and chopping her body into strange proportions; otherwise the somewhat over-designed dress and wonderfully organic styling combine to make a strikingly unique, feminine look.

And maybe I’m alone in thinking this, but I wish more ladystars could lay off their paintbrushes and be photographed looking this natural and happy.

      Definitive IN.

    • guestela

      easy out

    • lifetime_student

This evening Ms. Bejo is wearing a dress featuring a bodice created by Girl Scout Daisy Troop #666 combined with a pleated skirt in  colors of Atlantic farmed salmon and mint toothpaste. Her look is accessorized by a belt, also created by those talented Daisies, which makes her waist look thick, a clutch which exactly matches the Atlantic farmed salmon color of the skirt, toe-nail polish which exactly matches the mint toothpaste color in the skirt. Make-up by…er, umm, apparently NoOne and hair by WindSwept. Oh, and some nice earrings.

    • formerlyAnon

Did Miuccia have too much vino before she grabbed her bedazzler? Does that explain the bodice?  There is a lot going on with this gown-I’d definitely like it more if the skirt were one color and pleated.  Berenice does look like she’s enjoying herself, though.

There’s something about it that makes me want to like it, but I just can’t give it an “in,” even if it looks like something Maria Montez would have worn in one of her movies back in the ’40s.

      Out.  Horrible.

    • lilazander

OUT, plus I hate the colour combination in the skirt, bleh.

Cracktastic. From the bodice to the frankendress bi-colored skirt to the way it makes her hips look uber-wide and also manages to somejow highlight her lady-parts . . . Miuccia, this is absolutely TERRIBLE. Adding to it? The chalk-white eyeshadow, oddly mismatched blush application and sea-kelp hairstyle. I am sure Berenice Bejo is a delightful and lovely person, and if she were to dismember her styling team in the lobby of her hotel, no jury in the world would convict her.

      blech!~

      Nope. OUT

I like the idea behind this dress, not the execution. Out.

    • Jessie Coulter

You’re right about the colors. The dress is great from the back, and it’s because there aren’t so many day glows trying to fry your eyeballs. But it’s fun and carefree and I say IN.

      Out.  Nothing witty to add.

    • PeaceBang

Out. Bad hair, bad make-up (too much concealer around the eyes), and the dress is terrible.

      Wow. Out.

    • Michelle Newell

Are we sure this isn’t a design from a PR Gristedes challenge?

    • blondie65

Out.  I stopped looking at the mint green pleated skirt that worked with nothing else.  Just no.

      Nope. OUT, big time.

in. bitch is selling that shit like she’s got a mortgage to pay. that smile seals the deal even if this were actually hideous (which it isn’t).

    • Samantha Irene

I do like the top – but no – the skirt is shocking – so not flattering and just no. OUT

A pretty woman in an ugly dress.

      LIKE it!

It would be so pretty if the color blocking was arranged differently and there was no pleating.  Out. :(
