WERQ: Lilly Collins in Zac Posen

Posted on April 02, 2012

We don’t like to hand out the snaps up too liberally. Our love has to mean something, after all. Stars should crave it, and when they get it, they call up everyone they know and shriek “T LO GAVE ME A ‘WERQ’ TODAY!!!!!!”

Or at least, that’s how things happen in our heads.

Even though we did the unthinkable and gave Taylor Swift, of all people, our love, we’re feeling the need to do it a second time before the sun goes down.

Lilly Collins attends the premiere of “Mirror Mirror” in Paris in a Zac Posen gown paired with Cartier jewelry.

Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2012 Collection

And can you blame us? She’s serving up fairy tale realness without looking like a princess. You WERQ that fantasy dress, girl!

Now go and call all your friends to tell them.

Awesome! Though I would like to have seen some cuffs on her wrists.

    • I agree, she’s suffering from a complete lack of jewelry.

      • TheOriginalLulu

It says she’s wearing Cartier jewelry, but all I see is a couple of little rings. She really should have shaken down those Cartier people for some bigger bling. Talk about a missed opportunity.

  • I don’t know.  I don’t care for the puddle of fabric around her feet.

    • JosephLamour

      Her boob flaps are uneven.

      • giiiirrrr

I *think* there’s only one flap.  Which to me is kind of cool.

        • JDreesen

hmm…i think i see two.  and they are titscrepant.

  • So. So. JEALOUS.

  • Pupioso

    Honey she’s da bomb!

  • RebeccaKW

I like it-mostly.  I do not like the extra fabric flaps on the boobs.  It also seems hard to walk in, but then again, I’m sure that’s not a concern for her.

  • this dress was made for her

  • Dress is gorgeous and I’m surprising myself by liking her casual hair with it. I thought the proportions were slightly off here– maybe less bump in the hair and a foot off the train of the dress, and we’d have a complete winner.

    • Sara-Ann Collins

I think the fact that it’s causal hair that still looks like she brushed it. It’s sad when that’s the standard we’re at.

  • Pants_are_a_must

Her cone cups look droopy. HER CONE CUPS LOOK DROOPY. How is that even humanly POSSIBLE?

It is a curtain strapped to a corset with droopy cone cups. How on EARTH is she looking so ridiculous, when she’s so pretty?

    I can’t.

  • gsk241

I think she should have worn her hair up, but other wise FAB!

  • Wendi126

Sorry, I’m not feeling it. The dress is wearing her, resulting in a Victorian upholstered mermaid.

    • Yes, this.  Look at the model to see how it’s done right.  Lilly suffers by comparison.  It’s a little bit too much dress for her.

      • DaringMiss

ITA.  That is way too much dress for that young girl.  She looks like she is wearing her mom’s designer gown to prom to impress everyone.

        • Melvis Velour

My first thought was lord, that child is channeling Miss Scarlett in her curtain dress…

    • mmc

      Yep, “mermaid” = first thought.

      • Mary Pressler

Yep, and covered in seaweed.  That is not a pretty color

    • kckris

At first, I thought it was an April Fool’s prank on TLo’s part, and when I didn’t read it in their entry, I realized today is 4/2.  I think the whole thing is hiddy.

    • baxterbaby

Agree, agree, agree.  She’s a pretty little thing, and the dress is striking, but it appears to be swallowing her from the ground up.

  • I love how she’s holding her hand. It looks like she’s holding an invisible (poison) apple. She’s committed to this Snow White thing, that’s for sure!

  • cgoodsil

Isn’t it insane that she’s Phil Collins’ daughter? I don’t think I’ll ever get over that.

The dress is kind of ridiculous (ugh, Zac Posen), but she looks incredible, it can’t be denied.

    • kimmeister

Whoa, I had no idea (about Phil Collins)!

    • Rand Ortega

She MUST look like her mother. Sorry, PC, you’re a musical legend (to some, I guess– your music should only be listened to in elevators, IMO. The possible exception– “In Too Deep” from “Mona Lisa”), but you ain’t no Peter Gabriel (who was hot in the ’80’s & a real innovative, musical legend).

      • ballerinawithagun

You do realize that they had a band together, right?

  • She looks gorgeous, but I would pay good money to see if she was able to walk properly in it.  Shamelessly bitchy, but true nonetheless.

    • norseofcourse

Truth. Does she have handlers who carry her in like a little statue and place her there to pose?
Do they watch the movie at a movie premiere? ‘Cause there’s no way she could sit in that dress. Maybe they carry her inside, where she ditches the dress for yoga pants, a t-shirt, and a big bucket of popcorn.

    • NinaBoo

I want to know how she pees while wearing it.  Even the bridesmaid-holding-the-skirt-while-bride-squats wouldn’t work.  She must completely undress in order to wee.  Or she has a catheter cleverly hidden under the train.

      • norseofcourse

Perhaps Spanx makes something with a built-in catheter.

        • baxterbaby

          If only.

      • Ogden1990

        Stadium Pal

  • Laurie Bergman

I love this on Lily, but I *swoon* over it as shown on the model.

  • girliecue

Love the shape and color of the frock, but the fabric is just too upholstery-ish. Her face and hair are adorable, though.

  • Oh no. She looks like a smug couch. I am so sick of her and her eyebrows.

    • jilly_d

Alli wins today.  “smug couch” is exactly right.  And I don’t know who girl thinks she is with those eyebrows.  They would be great with 1/8 inch off the inside corners, but she’s just this side of Freida Kahlo.

      • Thank you! I’m all for thick eyebrows but when they start to grow together in the middle, IT’S TIME FOR TWEEZERS.

  • If I ever become famous, TLo, and y’all give me a WERQ, you can bet your britches I’ll do exactly that.

  • Judy_J

Hate to disagree, but that’s too much dress for her.  She looks like she’s standing in a puddle.

  • Sara__B

She’s charming and princessy, but as others have wondered, did she need someone to carry her from place to place? That dress is so long it has a train in the back AND the front!

    • girliecue

Maybe she just gets dressed and undressed right there on the spot. Even if she could walk in that dress, I doubt she could sit down or even bend much, so there’s no point in wearing it before or after the photo op.

  • sagecreek

But…but…it’s a MERMAID dress! And you gave a WERQ earlier today to a dress with cut-outs.

Guys, can’t you see it? Our beloved Tom and Lo have been taken over by aliens! This is their “give my love to Fluffy” call-out!

  • schadenfreudelicious

it’s a lot of look for a little gal, it’s passable on the tall model, but she’s totally overwhelmed by a ton of fabric that appears to smack strongly of draperies… sort of a Maria Von Trapp as madam of a bordello look….

  • SewingSiren

Perfect dress for the occasion. WERQ!

  • kelsita421

so beautiful — i think she just blew miss swift’s “werq” out of the water.

  • NurseEllen

I don’t know, I’m feeling she needs a lace mantilla and castanets to complete her “Carmen” look.  And how on earth does she walk?  Is there a scooter underneath all that billowing fabric?

  • She is too short for this dress.

  • Amy Ellinger

Very, very IN, but she needs to be about 4 inches taller for a true WERQ from me.  As it is, she is pulling some Dita-esque fierceness.

  • The model gets a WERQ. What a difference it looks like on little Lily.  The dress is wearing her, she is standing in a fabric puddle.  The eyebrows warrant an out on their own.

  • Melissa Horton

So glad you said werq! Was really worried you two wouldnt like it. As in, I wouldv’e had an emotional response if you didn’t like it

  • up with pod people

  • In the immortal words of my BFF,  “Too much.”

  • I love it! That is a hard green to pull off and she is nailing it. Although the angles of the photos make her boob flounces look off.

  • It’s a dress that really needs a tall woman to carry it off, but she looks so pleased to be wearing it that I haven’t the heart to find fault.

  • This is pretty fabulous. Don’t understand the weird hand pose though.

  • I just can’t with the titty-flaps.  And they are SO distracting.  Ruins what really is a dramatic gown.

  • MilaXX

Now this is a WERQ I can agree with. It dramatic  but perfectly suited for a Paris press appearance for Snow White. Hair and makeup look great.

  • kimmeister

Don’t like the boob flaps or the curtain fabric.

  • Rebecca Zmarzly

    Gorge. Absolutely gorgeous.

  • giiiirrrr

She looks wonderful.  I really like the little boob flap.  Makes it more interesting.

  • AC

WOW. This is an amazing look! (I wish she weren’t posing like that, looking over her hunched shoulder). I love this!

  • PeaceBang

I don’t feel it. It’s a great dress on someone who knows how to wear it. This little girl looks like she’s wearing a funzy costume, and she has no idea how to move in it or give face worthy of it. I also hate the fabric, and she’s standing in a pool. Naaah.

    • Lisa

      Everything you said, PeaceBang.

  • She looks great! Wonderful colors for her. WERQ

  • plinkiedoodle

Yes, wow, wonderful, etc.  But the hair?  It’s making my screen flicker.

  • It’s a gorge dress but I wonder how one sits in it?  It doesn’t look like it allows even a centimeter of room for body movement.

  • TieDye64

Very glamorous with a dash of Morticia Adams. I love it!

  • TSkot

Looks like she’ll topple with the very first step.  Not only is this not a WERQ it’s an OUT!

  • Daenyx

That is… yeah.  About perfect.  Would have been a tiny bit better with jewelry, but it’s a fantastic dress for her.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Hate it.  What is wrong?  It looks like she went to the High End Upholstery Store and rolled up in one of the bolts.  NO NO NO.

  • My first thought was “Dita Von Teese impersonator?”  That’s way too much pasty makeup on a young girl.

  • Beardslee

I love this dress  but I think it would be more effective on someone taller and older.

  • Lisa

Nope, I’m not loving this.  As another poster below pointed out, it looks like upholstery fabric.  And the really really extreeeeme mermaid effect is way too much.    And as another wise Bitter-Kitten said, very “Dita Von Teese”.  Just way too mature and over-the-top for her.

  • janedonuts

She looks like the poor man’s Megan Fox here. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

  • Why hello mini Jennifer Connolly! Good god that face. She looks great.

  • quiltrx

I bet Tarsem helped her pick it out!  Fabulous.

  • Kit

Am I the only one getting an Elvira vibe here? Not that I don’t think that this is pretty damn fierce but extremely pale skin and the va-va voom quality is screaming Mistress of the Dark to me.

  • No. I am sorry. I can’t. She looks like ‘the quirky mermaid.’  You know her. The one that just won’t wear what all the other mermaids wear. She has to dye her hair black and wear darker colors to prove how edgy she is next to the pink clamshell clique.

  • LesYeuxHiboux

She looks perfectly Parisian premiere prima donna. I remember that Natalie Portman was once Zac Poseb’s muse. Perhaps petite brunette Lily Collins is next in line for the honor?

  • bellafigura1

This kid is simply not woman enough for this dress.  Penelope Cruz, JLo, Charlize Theron, all upswept and corseted, divine.

  • CatherineRhodes

Does she need an eyebrow wax? They look like thick, black caterpillars.

    • alyce1213

      Her trademark.

  • SapphoPoet

Lovely. Interesting pattern with wonderful colors.

  • Renaissance_Man_ATL

    And, in Zac Posen!

  • AzulFashion

It looks fabulous from the back, but only so-so from the front.  She should have had the dress altered so that it would be the proper length for her.

  • Lyre1

    One word: Titscrepancy.

  • Sophie Collier

  • Lilithcat

Not a WERQ.  The hair’s a damn mess, and what’s a fabulous train on the model looks like someone forgot to hem the garment on Collins.  I don’t know her height, but I’m thinking she’s just too short for the gown.  (Okay, I did some research.  She’s 5’5″.  Definitely too short for this style.)

  • EEKstl

Gorgeous dress, perfect on her.  Love the “Blanche Neige” in the background.

  • Caroline Harper

hell, if i were a celebrity and you guys gave me a WERQ, i would never need an oscar.

  • ChelseaNH

I’m getting a little Dita Von Teese vibe.   Wouldn’t that be an interesting mother/daughter casting…

  • unbornfawn

Not quite. The dress is too long, or she more likely she’s too short for the look, her hair is a little scraggily.

  • I want that as a couch.  Not so much as a dress.

  • Lily*

  • crackineggs

The colour is fabulous on her, but it looks like she’s being sucked into a fabric vortex.  Maybe it’s the camera angle.

  • lrhoff

Hmmmm.  On the fence here.  Seems a little too mature for her, but it’s growing on me.

  • gabbilevy

I thought this was gasp-worthy. Bet she looked stunning in person.

  • librarygrrl64

It’s a beautiful gown, but I think it’s too much skirt/train for such a petite girl.

  • It looks like upholstery, but nice upholstery.

  • Corsetmaker

It’s perfectly fairytale without a hint of sacharine. However it does need about a foot of fabric lopped off the front!
    Still love it though.

  • I thought you guys never like: 1) Zac Posen dress. 2) Puddle of fabrics.
With all those shininess and stiffness and floral patterns and hideous shade of green, it kinda remind me of my mom’s bad curtains choice.

  • RzYoung

    Ewe no, mermaid, ich.

  • sleepycat

gorge! Perfect dress for the film!

  • nancylee61

I don’t like this on her, she is too short for it. It looks gorgeous on the 7 foot tall model, but the proportions are wrong on her. Too much at the bottom. If this were a piece of furniture, I would say the gown looked bottom heavy on her. (She does not look bottom heavy, the fabric at her feet makes the whole thing look bottom heavy.)

It is not WERQing for me. 🙂

  • Laura Rizzo

just a WOW of a look!

  • ballerinawithagun

No, no, no. Overwhelming, almost Carol Burnett took the drapes off the window.

  • TLo, I’m going against the grain of these comments and say I totally agree! This look is beautiful, and I love it. She looks amazing and I love the dress (not usually a Zac Posen fan, but whatcha gonna do?).

  • DeTrop

This is how Austin Scarlett’s gown should have looked.  Either way though NO.  Who wants to wear a fabric so shiny and glitzy anymore.  Looks like something you’d see on the walls of Marble House, or some grand chateau.

  • HobbitGirl

I hate the boob flaps. Everything else looks nice.

  • I love that fabric but I think the dress a little over-wrought. She should probably have had her hair off her face, too.

  • The mermaidiness is a little over the top, but I love that fabric, and the other construction details. The smile is a nice accessory.

  • TheOriginalLulu

Huh. I would think you would have to be extremely tall to make this dress work, but I guess not. She looks fantastic. WERQ

  • AthenaJ

Agreed, just the right dress for a fairy tale movie premiere. Looks awesome on the model, but great on Lilly, too!

  • Dress is beautiful but maybe a bit too old for her? Also it looks like it is swallowing her. It is wearing her. Maybe its the camera angle, but you really need to have height to pull off a mermaid hemline.

  •  But he who never sins can little boast Compared to him who goes and sins no more.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Now that’s the kind of Zac Posen dress that I can really love, and LIlly is doing a great job selling it!

  • Aarjullor

She looks beautiful, I love the fabric. Such an unusual color and she’s totally pulling it off. I took my boys to see Mirror Mirror on Saturday, and it didn’t suck! We all liked it.

  • Gotta love a full browed gal, they give so much personality to the face. And I think someone else has said it on here, but PLEASE give her the Elizabeth Taylor role and let’s forget about that horrible Linsay Lohan once and for all.

  • guest2visits

Although thats the sweetest little over the shoulder pose, and it almost sells the dress for me; when she faces front I see a print
that looks old and dated for this young person. Almost country music awards, 80s-90s.  Which is odd; because close-up,-
this seems to be an expensive brocade-type fabric.

  • kmc1138

I shit you not, that dress gave me goosebumps.  Straight up goosebumps.

  • formerlyAnon

Like the dress. Hate the hair, but I guess it’s part of the Snow White thing.

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

I usually agree with you, dear T and Lo, but I gotta disagree here.  The girl is just too young (and too short) to pull off this much dress.

  • asmith

    Gorgeous dress.

  • you have to be a twig to wear something like this, and it’s gorgeous.  This could have been so campy, but the rest of her is styled perfectly.  I don’t like the “winged bosom” detail but otherwise, it’s a gorgeous fantasy dress that perhaps 2 other people on the planet could wear.
