WERQ: Kate Hudson in Jenny Packham

Posted on April 30, 2012

Before we say goodbye to WhoreProm 2012, we’ve gotta give it up for a lady to whom we’ve never really given it up before.

But damn:

Kate Hudson attends the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in Washington in a Jenny Packham gown paired with an Edie Parker clutch.

Anyone who can show up at the White House Correspondents’ dinner sporting the latest in Martha Mitchell drag queen realness is someone who deserves our snaps up. You WERQ that “Ethel Merman Sings Disco” drag, mama!

Whoa. She is really giving off a J Lo vibe in that last pic. She looks great, however. Purple is really her color. And her sticky-out ears are endearing. Wonder what this dress looked like in the back?

    • kimmeister

They often look very similar in photographs!

      • prettybigkitty

        You mean plasticy?

        • Carly Warnock

That’s the last thing I would say about Kate Hudson. She’s the spitting image of her mother, naturally. J-Lo’s face on the other hand is probably hard as a brick.

          • ccm800

I never thought she looked much like momma at ALL!

    • Sophie Collier

I was about to say that she seems to have borrowed JLo’s stylist. The makeup, hair and body-hugging dress are all so very Jenny.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Micaela-Cannon/1465504041 Micaela Cannon

I sort of thought she was JLo at for a hot second. Even though I knew she wasn’t.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1316070988 Roey Thorpe

I thought the same thing, and then noted the absence of booty and reconsidered.

  • Sobaika Mirza

    DAMN GIRL.

I love this, top to bottom. Except for those black cuff things, I wish it were all purple. But this is a minor quibble.

    • mixedupfiles

I think the black cuffs make it. And they’re what make the clutch so perfect.

      • MilaXX

agreed, I think the cuffs add a bit of interest.

      • MilaXX

agreed, I think the cuffs add a bit of interest.

        • http://www.GiftedCollector.com Nancy Abrams

I like the cuffs but wish the sleeves were wrist-length.

  • alyce1213

I fear many will not get your Martha Mitchell reference, but it’s perfect.

    • SRQkitten

Agreed! I’m of an age that I do remember Ms. Mitchell and that reference is spot-on. Why anyone with the money and resources KH has leave the hotel looking like that is way beyond me.

      srq

    • makeityourself

I get it!  Hilarious and right on point.

      • Nelliebelle1197

Is this a 70s reference that I only get because of my childhood obsession with the news around 1974?

  • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

That is a great dress. Modest, but it really leaves nowhere to hide! Do not love the hair.

  • http://twitter.com/katshimmers Kat Wright

    Bitch looks FABULOUS!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001998855370 Fatima Siddique

    Really? Her hair looks absurd.

    • alyce1213

      I know! Crazy.

    • Lori

Yeah. Dress, fab. Hair, not so much.

      • NC_Meg

Totally agree. I looooove the dress but that hair is weird.

    • http://twitter.com/TheRedZavodnik Ginger

It looks like she got the inspiration from an aging politician crossed with JLo.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/4KLZGI7NMQE2LQDYYSMPFXANW4 Uche

Jlo wears her hair that all the time.

  • IAmJ

She looks gorgeous and I love the color of the gown, even if the posing is a little on the crazy side.

  • mjude

    indeed!

  • BazoDee

Hot Damn! Perfect color and fit!
Although I did think the clutch was some sort of award and then I found myself thinking mean thoughts about Ms. Hudson and awards!

    • kimmeister

In the 2nd picture, the clutch looks like a flask filled with coffee, or a huge perfume bottle, or something.

      • BazoDee

Ohh hidden flask for the win!

  • VicksieDo

    WERQ!

  • http://twitter.com/watchinginkdry Dr Skylaser

    One word: EARS.

  • Spicytomato1

She looks good…it’s an interesting, different look for her. However it seems a bit too flashy for the occasion.

  • Kolo_Ol

    Gorge!

  • Rebecca Jay

    I think she looks ridiculous.

  • Kayceed

Love it – the bateau neckline really frames the face.

  • DinaSews

Does anyone think the tight hair with the bun really looks good? I haven’t seen one person who can carry this off.

    • mountainFashionista

I like it on JLo, but then, there are a lot of things that I like on JLo and only JLo.

(She’s on my irrational celebrity like list, ever since “Out of Sight.”)

      • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

I watched Out of Sight again yesterday – she is SO unexpectedly good in it! And I love her Chanel suit.

    • mountainFashionista

I like it on JLo, but then, there are a lot of things that I like on JLo and only JLo.

(She’s on my irrational celebrity like list, ever since “Out of Sight.”)

    • MilaXX

I think it’s an overdone look, but works here. Especially since it go against her typical California girl look.

  • SpcilK

I am not usually a fan, but DA -UM she brought it. I thought it was JLo at first glance.

  • snarkykitten

The  hair kills the whole look

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=610791985 Aniela Marie Perry

I can’t get over how awesomely that clutch is working here.

  • http://profiles.google.com/valencia.lucia87 Lucía Valencia

That “yeah, I know, SUCK IT BITCHES!” smirk on her face totally completes the look.

    • introspective

exactly! that look is saying “fuck a hit movie as long as I have a hit dress to make you bitches jealous!!!”

  • Judy_S

Love the oversized hip flask. Whatever gets you through the night.

  • Summer On The Beach

She is giving the Capital an up-DO.  Up-DO.

    • andcoh

      Genuinely laughed.  Thanks for that!

    • andcoh

      Genuinely laughed.  Thanks for that!

  • hughman

Not my thing personally. If the Little Mermaid were a lounge singer on the Love Boat i could see why.

  • http://deeplyproblematic.blogspot.com/ RMJ12345

I love the ears! It’s kind of appropriate, considering that guest of honor President Obama’s ears also stick out a bit. She looks great.  Love the cuffs.

  • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

OMG, that purse. I want that purse! And the dress. Definitely WERQ-worthy.

  • choco

LUV IT. glitter and glam and hot as damn

  • Judy_J

That dress is AWESOME and she looks fabulous in it.  But then, purple is my favorite color.  She’s WERQing the hell out of it.

  • suzq

You kidlets don’t know who Martha Mitchell is and how funny that comment was…

    Sigh….I am old.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_64HSRZWCSJ5RBFGCWDLFQOICYM G

Sorry my beloved uncles, love love love the dress, but dislike the bun tremendously.  Not a werq for me.

    • girliecue

Exactly. I love updos, but for some reason a tightly pulled ginormous bun on the very top of the head makes my skin crawl. Such a shame to do that to such a fabulous dress!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

I don’t care for the hair or makeup, but the dress is so great it still warrants a WERQ, in my opinion.  How old is her baby?  God, I’m so jealous.

  • Little_Olive

Werk indeed! I love that she wore that hair and her ears stick out. Brava!

  • girliecue

    WhoreProm! Ha!

  • girliecue

    WhoreProm! Ha!

  • miagain

That is the most glorious shade of purple…

  • Sara__B

The fit of that lovely gown is impeccable and looks great on her body, but the styling wrecks it for me.The clutch resembles an emergency radio/flashlight and her hair is awful. The “Martha Mitchell drag queen realness” isn’t working for me.

    Martha Mitchell??!??
    You guys so rock.

  • Jennifer Coleman

    You guys so rock.

  • LesYeuxHiboux

Well deserved! I love her ears in these photos.

  • http://www.facebook.com/gina.rook Gina Knox Rook

looks great, but bitch cannot pose to save her life! i just want to shake her and tell her to relax those robot arms.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_5UQHEKG5EDX4T6NMARUC565TPQ Amy

This look was immediately my favorite from “WhoreProm”. I am so glad TLo approves!

  • PeggyOC

When will the head bun go away?!  Please make it soon.  They all look like Olive Olye.  Oy.

  • Caaro3

    Anti-WERQ.

  • Melissa Brogan

I’m not in love with her hair, but whatever, she looks great.

  • amanda crow

AMAZE. Love that color on her, and my magpie nature has been called to attention!

  • marilyn

She needs to dress in a more youthful way.  Color may be too strong for her.

  • dschubba

Amazingly awkward posing, but the gown looks great. The hair is nudging her into bootleg-SJP territory, though.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/K3O2QNXDJIU3AJINAGNJRYWDZ4 mrspotts66

    she looks fantastic.
    love the dress.
love the real smile and the twinkle in her eyes.
i think we can all forgive the bagel on her head…*this time*.

  • Anathema_Device

Such a great write-up. She does look great, save for the Pomeranian napping on top of her head.

  • MilaXX

She looks great and the bun looks good on someone for a change.

  • MilaXX

She looks great and the bun looks good on someone for a change.

  • janetjb

    Beautiful.

  • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com/ Rebecca

Serving up the 60s realness! Love that color on her.

  • Call me Bee

Love this!  Good for her for stepping away from the white clothes for a change.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1183939371 Carla Gonzalez Burkhard

She had a baby like what-10 minutes ago?  WERQ that mamabod girlfriend!  (Said wistfully whilst looking at my own ruined figure…)

    • rawrgrowlrawr

Hey now, there is no such thing as a ruined figure. Reshaped possibly, but not ruined!

  • pookiesmom

She looks great, but I HATE her hair. Hate.

  • ZnSD

Mama Goldie taught Miss Kate a thing or two, that’s for sure.

  • claudemtl777

Of all the ladies you showed from that dinner, she’s the only one giving the FLOTUS a run for her money.

    • DeTrop

You mention FLOTUS but I have yet to read or hear anything about her fabulous look from any of the media.  Maybe I missed it but I thought MRS. O looked great and I loved her hair.  Kate looks great in the gown but I don’t like her hair.  Too severe???

  • http://twitter.com/GaraStJames Gara St. James

Not feeling the hair so much, but the dress is gorgeous and she’s wearing the heck out of it.

  • kikisayshi

The whole look is Ab Fab! Love it!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Heather-McIlrath/673340132 Heather McIlrath

All she needs to do is learn how to pose! and give me that dress…

  • Warren221

A good inclination is but the first rude draught of
virtue, but the finishing strokes are from the will, which, if well
disposed, will by degrees perfect it, as if all disposed will quickly
    deface it.

  • nannypoo

I love the dress and I like it on her, but that is one silly looking hairdo.

  • Pennymac

Everything for Goldies’ mini-me is spot on! Love, love love that grapey-purple on her!

  • EEKstl

Love it!  That clutch is fab.

  • Dan_In_NYC

She looks terrific.  I’m with those who aren’t feeling the bun, but it’s not enough to deny the WERQ written all over her.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/J2VE4NE2FY2BP4QD2XOYKJGLPI Laura

Except for the weird “I’m sorry but I just need to put this in the video return box” clutch, FAB!

  • AuntieAnonny

Carrie Bradshaw on a great day!

  • Lina_bee

She looks great — purple is her color! — except for the freaking tribble on her head.  *hate*

    • LambeeBaby

She is looking so fab that I am going to give her a pass on the tribble.

  • quiltrx

LOVE LOVE LOVE the dress, and the clutch is pretty fabulous.  Her hair’s doing the homemade facelift thing a bit, though, and her makeup looks like concealer overdose around the eyes.  But those are quibbles.  Well done overall, Kate!

  • Lisa

I LOVE the dress!  But her makeup is horrible and the hair makes her look like my 5th grade math teacher.

  • erinbinek

Love the dress, hate the hair.  She looks pretty hot, I must admit.

  • elzatelzabelz

I normally don’t care for Kate Hudson’s red carpet choices (Stella McCartney at the Oscars-blech). But, this is supremely awesome. Perfect.

  • holdmewhileimnaked

the dress is fabulous, had she done something else w/ the hair we could all be sitting around the virtual campfire, here, giving her real marshmallow props. otoh, the hair–did someone say martha mitchell, or am i so tired i’m imagining it? & the purse i honestly at first thought was a flask. but you cant get any better from the neck down, not hardly.

    • funkypeanut

Sticking with the retro look, she could have gone with a Samantha Stevens flip for a whole new type of drag.

  • unbornfawn

    WERQ indeed. LOVE the color!

  • http://www.facebook.com/alexandra.pimenta Alexandra Gama Lima Pimenta

I love her fancy flask! ;)

  • Susan Crawford

Yes! It is so lovely to see someone who hired a GOOD make-up and hair team, took time to get the dress fitted just so, and in addition looks as though she’s genuinely happy to be there. Brava, Kate!

    • PaulaBerman

You liked the hair? My mom wore that hairstyle in the 60s, and it looked weird then.

      • Susan Crawford

I do like the hair – it’s a hard style to pull off, but with this dress, and with Kate’s elegant stance and columnar dress, it really adds to the WERQ-ability of this look!

  • understateddiva

Did you get a picture of my borrowed clutch?  HERE IT IS!!! MY CLUTCH!  Maybe it’s just an awkward moment but it looks like she’s keeping it as close to her face as possible for maximum exposure.

    • funkypeanut

I’d like to see the front of it.

  • PeaceBang

Holy cow, she looks JUST like Mx Justin Vivian Bond, my favorite cabaret artist, in a few of these photos! Did you see Goldie? Her hair was a mess. She needs an intervention. Now Kate, here, looks full-on faboo.

  • formerlyAnon

    “Martha Mitchell drag realness”

    Love you.

  • sleah_in_norcal

the hair is awful!  looks like she has a mushroom on her head.  and it is very unflattering, making her ears quite prominent.  love the dress, though.

  • bellafigura1

Aside from the hair, this is a great Kate Hudson moment.  I love that she’s not doing the cliche hand-on-hip RC pose and is letting her own personality and natural gestures comes through.  And that dress fits her to a TLo — and makes her look 6 feet tall.  Brava, Kate, who-usually-annoys-me!

  • bluefish

She looks fantastic in that crazy dress.

  • http://profiles.google.com/scaponigro Sarah Caponigro

    That is her dress.

  • http://twitter.com/LOfficielEbony TheVeryLivingEND

Hate the hair.  Otherwise…you WERQ that beautiful dress, mama!

  • TieDye64

Totally agree with you guys on everything but the hair. Girl absolutely cannot pull that off. The rest is fantastic.

  • Allison Woods

    LOVE.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=10910518 Erica Woods Tucker

The purple is cool…The bun is gross..

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HIZ7S2FRLC52NXARXQ4ERHNOGE Liz

I just can’t with that hair.
