Pairs Division: Stone and Garfield

Posted on April 02, 2012

They’re completely ridiculous and we hate them.

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone attend the Nickelodeon’s 25th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards. Emma Stone wore top and skirt by  Antonio Berardi  paired with Alejandro Ingelmo shoes and Irene Neuwirth jewelry.

Antonio Berardi Fall 2012 Collection

Like adorable little Precious Moments figurines. Someone should follow them around with a banner over their heads that reads “Love is…”

SHE: Is a little too washed out, to be honest. But the dress is cute. And while we detest the color of her shoes, at least they’re a kicky little strappy wedge. Makeup could have been a tiny bit stronger, but this is a casual event. Score: 8.5/10. Some color somewhere was called for here. She looks a bit like Casper’s really cute sister.

HE: Looks like an adorable douchebag, yes? The kind of guy who deserves a good slap before the night gets started and then he’s fun and charming after that? He’ll have plenty of time later in life to ruminate over the fact that he actually went somewhere in a wide-lapeled lipstick red suit and had his picture taken, but for now, the little shit is actually pulling it off. Score: 8.5/10. We can’t actually score him any higher than that, even though we love the way he looks. It’s a red wide-lapeled suit, after all.

Combined score: 8.5/10. They really are a publicist’s wet dream, aren’t they?

  • I think they look perfect. 10.

Hands – Pockets – STOP IT

  • Goddammit, how is this even possible? Cutest little puppies.

  • carolie_king

C’mon, TLo… He definitely deserves a 10.  You’re being stingy because you’re jealous.  And I’m not just saying that because he reminds me of my nephew.

    • I deducted .5 for the tie poking out the bottom of his jacket.

      • Derek_anny

And a collar that was at least half an inch too big.

Though, I do like the wide lapel wine suit with such a gigantic knot.

  • I love her, but I agree with you about the shoes – cute, but hate the color. As for him.. I’m always distracted by how huge his noggin looks.

  • sdgreengirl

He is a 10, though he does look smarmy.  She would be a 10 with red hair and the model’s shoes.

    • birdhead

I don’t think of myself as irrational about celebrity appearance choices but every time I see her I want to shout GO BACK TO BEING A REDHEAD PLEASE. (I know, I know, she’s playing Gwen Stacy, red hair would really confuse the issue. But still.)

      • joe_tey83

That’s the first thought that comes to mind for me too. We can be irrational together.

        • she’s actually a natural blonde.

          • So’s Christina Hendricks, so’s Amy Adams – but the red is more striking and flattering on all 3 of them, I think.

    • Celandine1

Smarmy, thanks! That’s the word I was lookiing for. In  that last picture he looks like a smary David Cooppperfield.

      • Sartorial_She

“…like a smarmy David Copperfield.”  Redundant.

        • ballerinawithagun

          Always smarmy.

  • Judy_J

cute as cute can be……both of them.

  • gubblebumm

    who are these waifs?  zzzzzzz

  • sarahofalessergod

IMHO looking hot while wearing Ron Burgundy’s suit is the most impressive thing I’ve seen on a red carpet in months.

    • JasmineAM

      I love lamp.

    • sweet lincoln’s mullet!

    • ballerinawithagun

Definitely Ron Burgundy, I don’t know if that is good…

  • I agree with the assessment, a little pop of color on the shoes and she would have been perfection.

  • MilaXX

I think Emma looks cute, but I’d deduct a bit more for blandness. She needs a pop of color like the model’s blue shoe & belt. 8/10
He looks cute, but again the score feels a teensy bit high. I’d give him an 8/10 as well.

  • Is it the angle of the photo or is he really not that much taller than her? Damn, son, he’s verging into hobbit territory.

    • I think you also have to figure in that he’s gaining an extra couple of inches off of that hairdo.

      • Spicytomato1

And the shoes look like they could have a bit of lift to them.

    • cgoodsil

      She’s also really tall.

    • AnaRoW

      He’s about 6 feet tall.

  • VicksieDo

If she was just wearing his jacket….sigh

  • Catiline

I give them a 10/10 solely for managing to look like Nickelodeon cartoon characters in human form.  Doug realness, y’all.

  • It’s a red wide-labeled *properly hemmed* suit, after all! I can’t believe he is somehow pulling this look off.

  • Leonardo Alves

OMG! If I had ovaries they so would explode right now!
It doesn’t get any more adorable than that. And he’s totally pulling off the red suit! 10!

  • Adorable.  Wish I could pull off a wide-lapeled lipstick red suit.

  • granddelusion

Her dress is cute, but the total lack of color is majorly boring. And a red suit? Really? Maybe colorblindness…..

  • Lilithcat

8.5 for either of them?  No f’ing way!  Her dress is poochy and saggy and wrinkled, the shoes are vile, and she’s not only monochromatic, she’s boring monochromatic.

As for him, there’s too much grease in his hair, his shirt collar is too big for his neck, and that maroon mess is bordering on leisure suit.

    • ballerinawithagun

I agree completely! I didn’t know that the Ron Burgundy look was good. Does he need a bad moustache also? I love peplums but that one is ugly!

  • They are adorable. I do wish she had worn the belt, darker shoes, and maybe a necklace. It looks like she forgot to accessorize. I also love how they match without being “matchy”.

  • jw_ny

I’d deduct points from him for his hands in his pockets and for the shirt collar being so loose, but he’s really pulling that burgundy wide lapel suit off, imo, and should get bonus points for it!  😉

    She looks cute…needs color.

  • They’re not wearing a single thing between them that I can sign off on, yet they’re completely adorable.  Well done, kids.

  • rketeckt

Agree she is washed out.  He on the other hand, poorly fitted shirt at the nexk and odd tie color choice. But then, what color does one wear with a claret colored suit?

  • I think that’s not her dress. Or else it needed some extra ironing/steaming or zhuzhing (sp?). Or maybe the fit is a tiny bit off. Or all of the above. The pattern on her midriff fades out and the skirt seems confusing rather than complex. Too picky at the end of the day, am I? If her Mom had made it, I would find it adorable.
As people they are cute indeed.

  • RebeccaKW

I don’t hate either look.  Hers could be better, it’s a little blah, but it’s not terrible.  He looks cute.  Certainly a step up from most everything we’ve seen from the boys.  Good fit, good shoes.  They both look like they’d be fun to hang out with-in small doses.

  • My first thought when seeing the red suit was “Nice way to remind us all that you’re playing Spiderman this summer.”

  • He looks about as adorable as I’ve ever seen him. She looks best in that last photo. Some photos are more washed out than others.

  • JasmineAM

She looks really orange, and that hair color is terrible for her!

  • OWWWWWWWW.  I’m getting a massive toothache from all the cuteness.  OWWWWWWWWW.
Plus he looks like Anthony Perkins as a young lad.  Which is about as geeky adorable as it gets.

    • That is exactly who he looks like! Why did I never realize that before??

      •  Perhaps you hadn’t crushed on him like crazy, as I did, back in the day.  When AG, I see AP in “The Matchmaker”  Same knowing, yet charming smile and same devilish twinkle in the eye.

  • I think she’s positively glowing. Who’s a bitter kitten now.

  • I just love Andrew Garfield. LOVE HIM. Ever since he broke my heart in Never Let Me Go I just can’t see him and not squeal.

  • Monabel

Her bodice does not fit well.

  • formerlyAnon

If he’d take his hands outta his pockets, I’d go for giving him a 9/10. He’d score higher but I don’t think the color of the tie quite works with the shirt & suit.

  • TheOriginalLulu

They look adorable. I do agree that she needs some color somewhere.

  • PeaceBang

I’m so besotted with her charm that I don’t even care that she looks like Caspar’s really cute sister. But that was a great line. And I love her shoes a LOT.

He’s so cute I hate him I hate him I hate him.

  • She looks puffy. They must have just flown in. I like her better with red hair. That’s it. I’ve got nothing else. They’re adorable.

  • drdirection

Andrew Garfield is my new celebrity crush.  He’s over 21, right?

    • sarahofalessergod

      LOL no worries, he’s 28.

  • Wait wait wait….. has no one noticed that he has ROLLED UP THE BOTTOMS OF HIS SUITPANTS???  Rather than getting them properly hemmed, or at least using some fabric tape on the insides of them?  Look at that top pic again…. see how the inside of the side seam is now visible on the OUTSIDE of the makeshift cuff he has created? And how said cuff is puckering the bottom of the pant leg all the way around?

    Complete FAIL.

    • wisenhar

THANK YOU! I couldn’t believe nobody else had mentioned that.  To me, the fabric looks cheap. I think he looks horrible.

  • That’s how I always feel about him, regardless of wardrobe, actually.  Seems like the kind of guy that you love hanging out with even though there is always much eye-rolling induced.

    • formerlyAnon

“Seems like the kind of guy that you love hanging out with even though there is always much eye-rolling induced.”
      Nailed it!

(hope you’re doing o.k. these days as, I assume, the pregnancy-fatigue worsens)

  • prettybigkitty

It’s the smirk that makes him look douchey.  Adorable, but douchey.

  • Pants_are_a_must

Oh, he is totally outWERQing her here. She’s like a blank canvas, and he’s like “I’M HERE, WHAT NOW BITCHES?”

  • I always like her so much better as a redhead.

Either way, they are simply adorbs together.

  • I will always like her better with the dark hair like she had in Zombieland.

  • These two are awesome. I don’t understand the idea that men are encouraged to wear color but then are admonished for wearing color. I suppose that’s what keeps fashion people working.

  • Nicole Chubb

You need to find more pictures of how stars could look when they’re wearing pale dresses if they only wore colorful shoes and accessories – that photo of the model with the pops of blue totally brings your point home and should be stapled as a “Compare/Contrast” on all stylists’ walls. You guys should really just write a book.

  • Noooo the wrinkles in her dress are giving me hives!

  • Megan Patterson

Emma! Why are you blonde again!? That said, that dress would probably work better if her hair was red.

  • alyce1213

Her shoes are adorable too, not detestable in any way.
I can’t stand beige/nude hoof platforms but is it off-limits for all shoes?
The now obligatory “pop of color” is likely to be abused, overdone, and tiresome at some point soon.

  • Susan Walker

Love seeing the youngsters dressed up: not wearing jeans or showing a lot of skin and how nicely they compliment each other.  Though I do love Emma best with red hair.

  • SouthernGirlRena

She looks great.  He looks like an action figure.  Just look at his second solo shot.  His face looks like plastic and the angle he is standing doesn’t look natural.  He could be Ken’s European cousin. Has anyone actually seen him move by himself?

  • I hate when she loses the red hair, but it’s virtually impossible to say anything bad about her. Too adorable. If they shoes were a fun color and she was wearing a fun shade of lipstick I’d give her a 10.

  • quiltrx

They both look so cute…I kind of want to give them each a good hard pinch.

  • Renaissance_Man_ATL

Ugh!  These 2.  The total PR combination just throws me off.. Whatev.

  • That’s burgundy, not lipstick red. Let’s not make it seem more dramatic than it is.

I do like the suit, but I wish he had stuck closer to the runway styling, i.e. no tie and a slightly cropped hem with thick-soled lace-ups. If it ain’t broke…

  • sleah_in_norcal

does it not look like he’s poking her with his giant boner in the first photo?  just sayin’…

  • LuisaNL

Love is… You crack me up!

  • nancylee61

She looks totally washed out, make-up looks nonexistent. I would give her a 3!!

Him?? Oh, Lord, my husband wore a suit just like that when he was 16 in 1976 and we still laugh about it. It was a mistake back then and it is a mistake now. Love that he needs a slap at the start of the night!! You called that right!!! 2/10

  • ChaquitaPhilly

ALmost perfect. She should have stuck with the blue shoes.

  • Are the bottom of his pants wet?  Or are they supposed to be a darker color around the hem?

  • Have you seen “Red Riding: 1974” (Netflix instant have it)? It’s a film noir set in Seventies Yorkshire, and has Spidey here squaring up to Ned Stark. Everyone is dressed in head-to-toe polyester, chain-smoking to beyond “Mad Men” levels and getting beaten to a pulp.

After that experience, Andrew Garfield must love getting suited and booted like this.

  • Cathy S

He’s adorable. You graded him too low. At least a 9.5. She need color, although she looks lovely, so I’ll go with your score.

  • guest2visits

I want to like this dress; but no. The top half is nice, the bottom’s kind of a miss. Don’t like the wedges,- wish they were platforms.
And for sure; I never want to see that color burgandy-maroon on a guy’s suit. Ever. Again.  Good attitude though.

  • EEKstl

I have a bit of a crush on AG and love Emma Stone.  Together = adorableness.  If Emma had some red lipstick and a strong shoe she’d have been in 9’s territory. And frankly, wide, red lapels and all, I think Andrew deserved a 9.

  • ccm800

these two are SO sexless they are like teletubbies.

  • frankystein123

Adorable and well-put together (both of them), but the lapel… yeah.
