Sexy, good-looking celebrities get a fashion editorial and magazine cover. Stop the presses.

W Magazine May 2012
Editorial: “An Affair to Remember”
Photographer: Emma Summerton
Stylist: Arianne Phillips
Hair: Jimmy Paul
Makeup: Jeanine Lobell

He looks good, but then again, it’s not hard for him to look good once you hand him a suit. Besides, it’s not about him. He’s the supporting actor here. It’s all about Miss Nicole, and we have to say, she’s looking so much better lately now that she’s toned down the agressive botoxing and dieting. Sure, she’s airbrushed to be completely poreless and plastic, but she doesn’t have that wide-eyed scared-bird look she was sporting for several years.

Any reactions to the news that she’ll be playing Princess Grace in a My Week with Marilyn-style movie? Normally we’d think that was pretty good casting except she’s supposedly playing her at a time when she was a good fifteen years younger than Nicole.

Rochas off-white silk organza dress. J.Crew off-white cashmere cardigan. Van Cleef & Arpels 18k yellow gold and diamond necklace; Seaman Schepps 18k yellow gold and pearl bracelet, Neil Lane Jewelry 18k gold and diamond bangle (from top); Harry Winston platinum and 18k yellow gold and yellow diamond ring; Carolina Amato gloves.

Kidman wears Louis Vuitton twill dress and coat. Louis Vuitton necklace; FD Gallery vintage Gübelin 18k yellow gold and gem bracelet; Roger Vivier bag. Owen wears Giorgio Armani wool-blend suit, cotton shirt, and tie. Brunello Cucinelli pocket square; Church’s shoes; his own Jaeger-LeCoultre watch.

Owen wears Giorgio Armani navy wool-blend suit, white cotton shirt, and tie. Brunello Cucinelli pocket square; Church’s shoes.

Kidman wears Carolina Herrera white and black embroidered silk organza dress. Dior black and beige straw coat. Tom Ford sunglasses; vintage Halston scarf; Marni bag; Carolina Amato gloves; Falke hosiery; Louis Vuitton shoes.

Oscar de la Renta silver pleated lamé mousseline gown. Van Cleef & Arpels platinum, pearl, and diamond necklace; Tiffany & Co. platinum and diamond bracelet; Neiman Marcus for Forevermark platinum and diamond ring. On table: Michael Schmidt interlocking-ring bangles and chain-link necklace; Van Cleef & Arpels platinum and diamond bracelets.

    Gorgeous.

  • MilaXX

Is it me or is Nicole plumping her lips? More photoshop maybe?

    • lucasuk82

I think her lips are plumped, but they used Photoshop to fix that weird rim she has wear the plump and her natural lip meet.

      • Glammie

She’s been plumping her lips for years and years.  The young Nicole Kidman had a tiny mouth.  Lips don’t get bigger as you get older.  She has, however, mostly avoided the duck-lip pout.

  • rainwood1

The only photo I like is the B&W of Clive.  Tres chic.

Nicole looks like she’s trying too hard to be a sex kitten – some combo pack of Marilyn, Bardot and Ann-Margret – but it ain’t working.

    • http://twitter.com/GuidosDaddy Jason M. Galloway

Works for me.  I think she looks lovely.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Aldona-Dye/216300255 Aldona Dye

She looks like classic Barbie!  I kinda love it.

      • BayTampaBay

        Me Too!

  • Libby Rhoman

I’m normally opposed to obvious wigs, but I’m kind of digging how it goes with the period styling.

And it’s kind of cute that they put a J Crew cardigan in such an insanely expensive ensemble.

I can see her working Princess Grace pretty well.  The age difference could definitely pose some issues if they try to hard with age makeup or effects.

  • catlady10

She looks like Anne Margaret in the last shot.  Remake of Tommy, anyone?

  • NurseEllen

Her styling is simply screaming Bardot to me.  She looks better than she has in a long time, although it’s no surprise with that kind of fashion support.  He does nothing for me, never has, but it’s nice to see a different face.

  • http://twitter.com/MandySCG MandyJane

She looks so much better with bangs!

  • Scimommy

I don’t get the casting. Why didn’t they give it to Charlize Theron? She is closer in age, has the look, and can act? (not that Nicole can’t, but she is a bit old to play 27)

  • Nonnah

Total Ann Margaret vibe.  Which I like.

    • alyce1213

Now THAT’S the biopic she’s right for.

  • librarygrrl64

I think she looks a little Ann-Margaret in a few of these.

  • jblaked

Nicole has always looked better in wigs than she does with her real hair as it’s so thin and damaged from years of processing. I was skeptical when I heard she was gonna play PG, but with some good wigs and good lighting, I think she can actually pull it off.

  • kimmeister

She is unrecognizable on the cover.

  • kim i

she gives off way more of an ann-margret vibe than princess grace.  maybe i ‘m having a problem with it because i’m not sure how a modern aussie can get into the cool, icy head of old philadelphia money circa 1950, but there’s just some vital dimension lacking here.  imho.

  • TheOtherChristina

Dear god, she looks fabulous. The styling suits her so well.

  • asmith

    To die for.

  • nannypoo

She is as much a plastic woman as your average Barbie doll. I hope her next surgery involves the relationship between her eyebrows and her eyes. I think she could look a little less crazed.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/J2VE4NE2FY2BP4QD2XOYKJGLPI Laura

Ohh, Clive Owen…. Where have you been? I’ve missed you….

    • TropiCarla

It still hurts my soul that he was not cast as the new Bond. Apparently he was not interested. Why, Clive? WHY?

      • Glammie

Funny, he’s going to be the Bond who never was–total natural for the part.  Ah well, not being a watcher of Bond movies, I’ll be happy to follow Clive about.

Oh, and I have to say, Nicole just kind of falls into the background next to him.  I never found her that charismatic an actress.  She may be intended to be the focus of the shoot, but Mr. Owen’s the one grabbing my attention.

  • http://profiles.google.com/dandesun Erika Schultze

The idea of an actress playing significantly younger than her age is downright refreshing. Wouldn’t Hollywood have normally gone with getting some 17-year-old IT girl of the moment to play an “older” 27?

  • erinbinek

All I can see is her wig.  Her bad wig.

  • guest2visits

Don’t tell anyone, but I FREAKING love Clive Owen. Or something like it.  I inexplicably spent the last 5 minutes looking
    at the pic of him just hanging around inside an elevator. And it’s not even a great picture. And he’s not doing anything. Oh well;
Time well spent.   And Nicole Kidman is not only one of the most beautiful women ever; she is absolutely one of the best
actors/actresses of all time; IMHO.   Forget that whimpy ‘Affair to Remember’; how about a remake of ‘Notorious’ (Ingrid Bergman,
Carey Grant).   They would be perfect.      Were they modeling clothes or something, ?

  • Lisa

Okay, I will totally give it up for her in that last photo in front of the mirror.   But other than that, she’s trying to hard.

And can I just kvetch for a minute about actors portraying someone way too young for them to be portraying?  This was the same gripe I had about 45 year old Kevin Spacey playing Bobby Darin, who died at age 37 in 1973, and that wasn’t even the era he was playing him in!  It was way before that in the early 60s.  It’s the same thing here – Nicole is too old to be playing Grace Kelly in that era. If it was a few years, no big deal. But 15 years? Nawp.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Angelica-Smith-Mertens/150401222 Angelica Smith Mertens

She is reminding me of Natalie Wood in these photos.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I never would have recognized her here. Great editorial, but I hope it doesn’t inspire her to go back to blonde!

  • marilyn

If Nicole is going to wear her hair that color, she needs to tone down the eye makeup.  Over all, the tone of the shoot is sleazy, which may be what they are going for.  Why is she wasting her time with this?  She is not such a great actress that she is going to move on to more high end roles as an actresss.  Maybe she is being paid a lot for this.  rainwood1 is right, she is trying too hard to be a sex kitten.

  • GorgeousThings

Could she look any more like Julie Christie in the cover picture? Don’t get me wrong, she looks great. Well, except for the wig.

  • Terence Ng

I think I read a blind item about her recently. Makes me kind of sad…

  • Lina_bee

1968 hotel tryst, or scene from a mid-60s James Bond movie? There are much worse premises for fashion editorials and I do love how jaded they both look — it works! But now I’m all nostalgic for Clive when I first saw him on some BBC mystery nearly 20 years ago. Broody nom!

  • http://twitter.com/MsAfroCAN Ms JJ

didn’t recognise her in the first picture

  • Sara__B

I’m trusting T Lo and the magazine that this is really Nicole Kidman.

  • holdmewhileimnaked

i dont think either one of them has ever looked much better.
otoh: is that an elevator w/ a bench in it? i’ve never seen anything like that.

    tired, here.

    & a totally unrelated PS:
PS. NEVER EVER NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER trust LAVENDER to get rid of moths! NO! NO! DONT DO IT! it DOES NOT work!

    • Glammie

Hmmm, didn’t even have lavendar on my go-to list for moth prevent.  The natural remedy for moths is cedar–thus, the tradition of cedar chests for linens and such.

  • Adriana_Paula

I dunno: shouldn’t two people having An Affair to Remember, you know, interact with each other a little?

  • judybrowni

Pretty ratty wig on the cover, nicht wahr?

  • Pennymac

I kinda love this one. The hallway and elevator remind me of my parents close friends Bill and Hank who lived in Tudor City across from the UN in NYC. The apartment smelled like Aramis and old money; I could imagine that awesome scent just by looking at these pics!

  • http://twitter.com/TigerLaverada TigerLaverada

NK reminds me a little of 1960s Ann-Margret in these pics. Which is not a bad way to look. Clive Owen reaffirms his correct placement on my fantasyman short list.

Edited to add: Skimming the comments, I see obviously I’m not alone in my take on NK. Should read the comments first, but simply not enough time at the moment.

  • hughman

She looks like she’d be great starring in a remake of the Stepford Wives.

    Wait, what?? OH CRAP.

  • Jo Koster

So very Burton and Taylor, especially him!

  • ZnSD

In which Nicole Kidman becomes Lindsay Lohan.

  • http://twitter.com/bredalot Bridget Smith

I love her (and thus am also very glad she’s stopped messing with her lovely face), but if they cast anyone but Diane Kruger as Grace Kelly they’re crazy.

  • rawrgrowlrawr

He gets to keep his fine lines and wrinkles and she gets the life photoshopped out of her. How very fair.

  • margaret meyers

    Wig!

  • TieDye64

I like the whole Ann Margaret vibe and I like most of these, but there’s a lot of leaning going on. ha.

  • Judy_J

I’m totally getting an Ann-Margaret vibe off those pictures of Nicole.

  • quiltrx

Ah, Clive…now THAT is how you pose with your hands in your pockets!

  • texashistorian

Clive Owen looks divine. So would Nicole Kidman if she wouldn’t look so damn plastic. I swear, she looks like Barbie – and that’s not a compliment.

  • http://twitter.com/katshimmers Kat Wright

    Clive. Amazing.
    Nicole. Love the last photo.

  • http://twitter.com/yankeefoxtrot Alex McGeagh

These are strangely dissonant. Like they are kind of lifeless and in some other photoshoot. No connection to the camera whatsoever.  At all. Not a fan…

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Thus the power of Mad Men, that everyone needs to take a turn at showing they can do “sexy retro” – but I LIKE IT!  I LIKE IT!!

  • littlemac8

What in the hell is  the “fake hosiery ” in the elevator photo???

    • http://twitter.com/KathrynTewson Kathryn Tewson

      Falke. Falke hoisery.

  • http://twitter.com/ennisamy Amy Ennis

I think I’m going to write a book about the Clive Owen shot in the elevator. That one picture has a story with it.

  • cleep1000

With that hairstyle, she looks a lot like Ann-Margret.

  • Laylalola

I don’t know why but she reminds me of Meg Ryan here, right before Meg Ryan dropped off the face of the planet.

  • BradWatson

It’s all too Kitten With A Whip for me. More Clive.

  • LuisaNL

love this editorial and Nicole looks amazing!

  • prettybigkitty

I’ve loved Clive Owen since Croupier.

  • NCDFan

Is it just me or is she channeling Ann Margret?

  • http://twitter.com/ulvlu crh

She reminds me of Ann Margret in most of the pics here.

  • http://twitter.com/AShinyOConnor A Shiny O’Connor

Nicole’s face froze about fifteen years ago so it seems about right.

  • RzYoung

    She: looks like a Thunderbird
He: is starting to look like the late great Pete Postlethwait…?

  • http://profiles.google.com/phyllis.craine Phyllis Craine

    I love the cheap wig

  • SapphoPoet

She actually looks like a real person again. Brava.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

Wow, she really looks like Rachael Taylor in these pictures.

  • M Carlson

Wow, he really is Cary Grant redux, isn’t he?

  • http://theargiehome.blogspot.com/ Gus Casals

Part of the secret to the styling in this shot is Nic’s hair. It looks so much better than what she usually does. Bonus points: it covers the ginourmous forehead.

  • Patti Lever

Grew up watching her on TV back home and I think she is one of the most beautiful women in the world. But then again I am Aussie and biased.

  • DeTrop

Ah the Good Life.  An elevator with a bench. Fabulous. BTW, I agree Nicole does look a lot like Ann-Margaret in these pics.  But I like both of these ladies.  As for Mr. Owen – yowza!

  • MeredithCallahan

I think that a good life goal might be to be photographed in W or similar magazine and have an informative caption that includes ‘[her] own Jaeger-LeCoultre watch.’

  • EEKstl

    They both look FAB!

  • BrooklynBomber

Holy Ann Margret, Batman– she looks great!

    • mjude

i was just going to say that cover shot is so Ann Margaret (who i love)

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3KCDEX4FOTCFHZP6WLKSOOKUVM Danielle

    Less Nicole, more Clive, please.

  • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

Is there some reason why that man is not waiting in my bed RIGHT NOW?

    • http://twitter.com/yankeefoxtrot Alex McGeagh

Cuz he has to wake up in mine first! Ha ha. I imagine Clive is among the men who would cause a Bitter KItten Throwdown…:p

  • Emily Guillory

That last photo reminds me of when she played that Weather Girl…crap, I can’t remember the name of the movie… anyways, she looks great.

  • Rebecca Johnson

I want to see Clive as Cary Grant.

  • TheOriginalLulu

She looks great here. I’ve always thought she was a beautiful woman who didn’t need any of the botoxing and lip-filling she has done, but hey. She didn’t ask for my opinion.

I kind of love that last picture.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Was anyone else besides Clive in the photos?
I do like the unbotoxed Nicole Kidman much better.  Is anyone else over the smoky eye?

    • poggi

I agree about the Clive Owen thing.  I saw Croupier a while ago–he was amazing, and I think it was about cards or something.  I am pretty sure if I had watched it yesterday I would still think he was amazing and that it was about cards or something.

  • PantherontheRunway

Now I need to see her in more 60-ish spreads, because she totally has a young ann-margret thing going on
    j’dore!

  • PantherontheRunway

  • nancylee61

I haven’t read the comments yet, but Kidman looks like an Ann Margret clone in the first picture, and even some of the others?? I think it is her lips?? Not sure why, but she doesn’t look like herself.

  • Jecca2244

I think she is odd casting for Princess Grace

  • lilazander

    I love both of them.

  • Wrenaria

    Lovely.

  • joe_tey83

She looks good, although it doesn’t look like how she normally looks. Then again, she had so much aggressive botoxing over the years it’s difficult to tell what exactly she’s “supposed” to look like any more.

And NO to her playing Grace Kelly. That role clearly belongs to Meryl Streep.

    • berkeleygirl

Rosamund Pike was born to play Princess Grace.

  • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

Too old for Grace, maybe, but she’s proven she can act, so hopefully the script will help her out there. This editorial is what that horrific movie Nine should have looked like.

  • laescupidera

Hate to say it, but is anybody else getting a strong whiff of LiLo here?

  • jeeves22

I’ve seen a million photoshopped shoots before, but this is pissing me off like nothing else.

Dear Nicole Kidman and everyone involved in this shoot/magazine:

It is FINE FOR A WOMAN TO HAVE WRINKLES. There’s nothing wrong with it and it is, in fact, natural.

Jesus Christ. Does Nicole think she’s not beautiful if she doesn’t have the skin of a six-month-old baby? I mean, it’s ridiculous. She’s in her 40s. Two of her children are nearly adults. And she looks like a child doll while her contemporary Clive Owen looks his age. I usually think this kind of thing is just silly, but now I’m actually offended.
