Michael Fassbender for Vogue

Posted on April 25, 2012

Darlings, it has occurred to us that you all are probably not getting your Recommended Daily Allowance of Fassbender. Thankfully, Vogue, as it so often does, provides us with sustenance.

Vogue May 2012 Issue
Editorial: Modern Times
Models: Michael Fassbender and Natalia Vodianova
Photographer: Craig McDean
Fashion Editor: Grace Coddington

We are insanely excited about Prometheus. Grace Coddington seems to be playing off his David character a little bit here, or at least playing into his naturally android-y looks by placing him in a 1920s utopia inspired by the Man Ray film, The Mysteries of the Chateau of Dice.

Culture, bitches!

Also, that little man-bitch has the smallest waist we’ve ever seen on a grown man. Gorgeous pictures, though.

On her: Yves Saint Laurent leather trench coat, gloves, and boots; YSL, NYC. Prada bag. On him: Prada coat. Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière pants.

On her: Oscar de la Renta color-blocked silk dress. On him: Prada shirt and pants.

On her: Dries Van Noten cotton trapeze coat. Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci gloves and boots.

On her: Céline printed shirt, skirt, belt, and black-and-white boots.

On her: Marni cotton-and-silk shirt with glass-detailed collar.

The mandroids are coming! The mandroids are coming!

Seriously, they both look like robot models.

      • Leonardo Alves

        They do! Isn’t that awesome?

    • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

That first picture gives him very strange proportions — like he has a little tiny body and big gigantic head (like most movie folk).

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Great editorial. Her clothes are amazing. And the super spare look they have given Mr F just makes his insanely gorgeous face even more obvious.

      • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

She looks so good I hardly even noticed him. Fail at being a straight woman.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

Isn’t it a relief to actually be able to SEE the clothes? I appreciate the artistic effort in some editorial shoots but lately it feel like “pile up as much couture as you can on a poor model” is the norm.
The clothes are fabulous, the YSL coat is TO DIE and the Dries Van Noten is absolutely gorgeous!

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I couldn’t agree more! Especially regarding that wonderful Dries Van Noten coat.

    • Jill_3

Thank Goodness, I was suffering from SEVERE Fassbender deficiency. Symptoms include ennui, depression, lower levels of libido, and luster-less skin.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

And severe Fassbender deficiency can only be treated by repeat viewings of all of his films.

      • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

Is that what it was?  I thought I was just having a bad reaction to my state legislature.

    • Clueless_Jock

That Prada coat is absolute perfection.

      • formerlyAnon

         Absolutely right.

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

It’s Josef and Anni Albers, in their school days!

    • http://twitter.com/pinkwedges10 Sheyla Concepción

When I saw this post I immediately ran to my bed (I got Vogue in the mail today) and ripped the plastic, when I opened the mag to remove the irritating “Suscribe now!” papers there he was: The Fassbender. Although he looks older, he’s still hot.

      • theblondette

Hon, you could’ve just left this comment at “When I saw this post I immediately ran to my bed”. It’s ok, we’re friends here, we’d all totally understand…

        • http://twitter.com/pinkwedges10 Sheyla Concepción

LOL I apologize for that. The magazine was in the bed. I forgot to write that specific detail.

    • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

You should see the pics without Fassbender. Equally as beautiful, and I want all the clothes.

    • VermillionSky

He gives such “old hollywood” face.  Reminds me of Leslie Howard.

      • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

        Or Randolph Scott?

      • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

I never would have thought of Leslie Howard, but that’s a good call.

    • Caaro3

This Fassbender infusion is a therapeutic antidote to the ghastly symptoms of Rihanna overdose.

    • M Carlson

      Black opera gloves. Love

    • charlotte

      Love!

    • Beardslee

I wish more men dressed like this.  Not this expensive but this classic and this well.

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

If you vote for me, I promise to pass a law prohibiting him from wearing clothing.

    • SpcilK

Daum! Loving piece she is wearing. I’m in agony over the YSL trench coat.

    • TieDye64

Perfect editorial for him. This is like a little breath of fresh air. Love it.

    • SewingSiren

His waspish waist is divine. She’s rather elegant as well.

    • Rebecca Johnson

I just adore this man, full stop.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZY5VGPGPBDVTC6XSDTJPWWVV34 Jonathan

I didn’t recognize him with his clothes on.

    • Vaniljekjeks

He is just so handsome!  Ugh!

And my husband, too, has a freakishly small main waist.  It makes shopping for pants quite difficult (not that he needs any).

    • Lilak

Nothing further needed from me on the Fassbender portion — it speaks for itself.  Gaahhhh.

Best ed Natalia’s done in a long time.  She’s got the goods . . . Does no one but Grace Coddington know what to do with her anymore?

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/XZTPYIF64TK3QDEMWUAS3KULFI Ted

that first trenchcoat, holy fucking hell.

    • http://twitter.com/HotMessHousWife Sammi M

He is entirely too clothed for my taste, which gets in the way of my objectifying him in a sexist way. That profile, though, my goodness… he is just too damn handsome.

    • Emily Scott

Wow, he really is the epitome of someone who is not conventionally attractive, which makes him ridiculously sexy. He’s the latest in my long line of offbeat celebrity crushes.

    • Sarah Thomas

I get a Man Who Fell to Earth vibe off him…which is hardly a bad thing.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_RDEDI3ONWSVDQS5GXKKBIML3H4 Chase

Tom and Lorenzo, please continue with offering us as much Fassbender as you can possible find.  The man isn’t sex on a stick.  He’s sex on an entire freaking California redwood.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/DNWEFT2SVBX5T3NPMROQCT4U2U jennyv

Bless you T-Lo. You’ve done god’s work today.

    • BeeBeauNYC

But why is he clothed in these pics???

    • out for a walk

Love that first photo so much. Especially how the background looks like any one of a million apartment complexes… how fabulous would it be for that to be in someone’s rental marketing materials?! The one with the topiary should also be in the brochure.

    • marilyn

Everything is tres chic, except for the white hat under the black hat in the first photo.   It all looks French and there is no other explanation for it.  However, at least it is rather toned down.  (I am flashing back to the circus nightmare, and other assorted ‘artful’ views of fashion  that have scared us from the other side of the pond.)

    • MilaXX

I like this. He cleans up really well. I’m looking forward to the movie too.

    • erinbinek

I want that trench more than I care to admit.

    • erinbinek

I want that trench more than I care to admit.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

Beautiful spread, but I didn’t realize how tiny he is.  I think the coat the model is wearing in the first picture is my favorite coat of all time.  Gorgeous.

    • kingderella

      PERFECTION

    • http://twitter.com/kimbalala Kim Kantarakis

I only realized recently that he was one of the hardbodies in 300….if you need to see him long haired and in leather underpants

      • Jill_3

IF? I don’t think there’s any uncertainty. We all need that.

    • egl48

      Beautiful.

    • ChaquitaPhilly

“Prometheus” looks marvelous. Scary. Remember when you saw the first preview for “Alien”?
Oh, yeah, the clothes and Mr. Fassbender look good too.

    • gabbilevy

Hot damn! That fourth photo really has me wanting someone to take a feather quill to my face.

    • hughman

I am just burning to know where the batteries go.

      • http://twitter.com/algaechick algaechick

For some Fassbender love, in my vibra…oh, that’s not what you were asking. Nevermind.

      • http://twitter.com/algaechick algaechick

For some Fassbender love, in my vibra…oh, that’s not what you were asking. Nevermind.

    • VicksieDo

Oh wow, the picture with his writing on her face is FIERCE!!!  Love

    • giiiirrrr

Gorgeous clothes, particularly the YSL trench.  Vodianova is overrated and overexposed (careerwise).  Fassbender is modeling her under the table.  Actually, she should be so lucky to be under the table with him.  *I* deserve it so much more.

      • Roman000

Did you hear that quote about Natalia V saying “it’s better to be skinny than to be fat”? What a vapid dummy.

        • giiiirrrr

Seriously.  The backpedaling was impressive too–as in not at all.

    • luluransom

Grace Coddington is so very, very good at what she does. Love.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

      Oh Grace, you’ve outdone yourself.

    • vanjar

I covet that Dries van Noten coat and the YSL boots. Great photo’s as well.

    • Lina_bee

This is great. There are whole chapters to be written for each shot.

That is stylish as fuck. Good work, Vogue.

    • alyce1213

I’m not a fan, but I have to admit he looks better in black and white.
      She looks great, period.

    • up with pod people

Yessss the waist. It gives me feelings.

    • http://victoriapavlova.com Victoria Pavlova

The one where he’s drawing on her face is FIERCE. And that man can totally OWN a Prada coat.

    • http://needtherapy.tumblr.com/ skadi1

ABOUT TIME! I was beginning to think you didn’t care about my Michael Fassbender obsession. The picture of him drawing on Natalia’s face is one of my favorite fashion photographs of the year. It’s the juxtaposition of her old-movie-star soft pretty against his almost aggressively modern angularity that I think is so brilliant. Nice to see the rest of the shots too, but that one is easily the best.

    • holdmewhileimnaked

may i, everyone’s tired if both somewhat louche somewhat miserable & somewhat, avant guardian post a link to the film?
[i'm not even gonna wait for an answer.]
      here you go:
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpPC87i7nv0
let it be known to whomsoever may care that i dont where they got the music. maybe it’s posted & i missed it. the person who runs the channel from which i pulled this also runs a whole mess of other great video, if i may say so. [i dont the channel runner.]

in semi-more appropriate news, that DvN coat is just fabulous. were i not certain it would make me look like h. dumpty before his fall [were h. dumpty very small], i would be coveting it & looking for it. on ebay, bien sûr.

edited for the madness that is disqus.

    • holdmewhileimnaked

no idea why my comment was tagged for review, other than that i edited it too many times. by the time i got past disqus’ peculiar way of handling linebreaks i think i was over my limit. not only that, i had screwed up my grammar too much. anyway, my guess is it’s lost in the ether somehow. as per, here is the link to the man ray video, which was what it was all about in the first place:

    • Susan Crawford

Thank you, T and Lo. I needed that.

    • EEKstl

The man is H.O.T. but I always feel he could use 10 lbs.  I’d be happy to cook for him.

    • kimmeister

Up until last week, I had only seen him in X-men First Class.  I just saw him in Jane Eyre, and now I’m a fan.

      • http://twitter.com/yankeefoxtrot Alex McGeagh

Check him out in “A Dangerous Method”. You may definitely be a fan after that.

    • Vodeeodoe

OMFG! He is so not my type, but in photographs I cannot help but just stare at him. He is so cool looking! That man could be the fifth member of Kraftwerk.
Also, I NEED the trapeze coat and that last outfit she’s wearing.

    • http://twitter.com/andakat andakat

I think Michael Fassbender is a better model than 99% of male actors and 90% of actual male models.  He has a face that fits any period/style.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

There was another person in the photos besides Michael?

    • TheOtherChristina

Oh hell yes. This is the first time he’s really piqued my interest.

    • formerlyAnon

Strangely unconvincing (maybe they weren’t trying to convince?) shoot if it was supposed to be dramatic, or forbidding. But he is such an attractive man!

She’s no slouch either, I especially liked her hair. She (& the team) showed the trapeze coat and the Marni shirt/dress off to great advantage.

    • guest2visits

I was impressed by how well they worked together.  And beautiful.

    • Renaissance_Man_ATL

I love editorial fashion!  Grace Coddington is a Goddess.  The old-fashion Prada black patent frame purse is wonderful.

    • Roman000

now THIS is a fashion editorial. Michael’s great, could of done without Natalia though. ugh

    • prettybigkitty

      gorge.

    • sleepycat

      need those animal (gazel?) sculptures

    • ccm800

“I wear many hats sir. “

    • BradWatson

Really? Huh. I guess the Blue Fairy didn’t sprinkle me with this particular dust.
All I get is douche fumes.
Maybe I should wear a hat. Or two.

    • TomBord

dudes got a way big head.

    • cowper

      You go, Grace!!

    • SOPHIE SERBINI

It’s not an appartement compex but the Villa de Noailles in the south of France. It’s a very famous modern house (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Villa_Noailles). I grew up in this city and i have a friend who works there. The fact that Michael Fassbender came in my hometown is too much to handle. Look at him! Where was i ?

    • SOPHIE SERBINI

    • fursa_saida

Regarding the small waist, several of these pictures remind me of David Bowie in his Thin White Duke phase.
