Kristen Stewart for ELLE UK

Posted on April 27, 2012

Elle UK, some copy seems to have dropped off your June cover accidentally.

Kristen Stewart covers the June 2012 issue of ELLE UK magazine in Jil Sander.

Because we’re pretty sure that’s supposed to read:

KRISTEN STEWART
INSIDE HER WORLD OF REALLY UNFLATTERING HAIRSTYLES

Okay, maybe “unflattering” is a step too far, but let’s just say we don’t think this is really in her wheelhouse. Some ladies can pull this retro sweep off, but we don’t think it suits her at all.

 Jil Sander Spring 2012 Collection

It’s weird; Leelee wore a dress from this collection and she did the same thing they did to Kristen here; mimicked the runway styling. Was there a rule or something? A salute to Diana Vreeland? We don’t get it. Great dress, though.

Yuck, I think the dress is ugly–it looks somebody tried to get cute with a swimsuit coverup–and I don;t think anyone can pull off that hairstyle.

      • poggi

The only person I can think of is Sophia Loren.  I think she did, and if she didn’t she could.  But Kristen (and most mortal women) cannot.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sierra-Delta/100003182924700 Sierra Delta

I dunno — the hair reminds me of Jacqueline Kennedy’s early years as a widow.

The dress (on the model) looks like the overlay is made of plastic.  Yuck indeed!

        • Sweetbetty

           Megan Draper could do it.

    • http://twitter.com/democracydiva Democracy Diva

The hair isn’t the problem – the ever-present snarl is.

      • http://twitter.com/Merneith Merneith

You’d think with all her money she could buy herself a new facial expression.

    • janetjb

I like the dress on Kristen quite a bit, but that hair style is kind of tragic.

    • MilaXX

it’s not a great hairstyle for her, but she looks better than Lee lee.

      • RebeccaKW

Lee Lee’s looked dirty and greasy.  Her’s looks clean at least.  But this is not a flattering style on either of them.

    • http://twitter.com/starbright143 Ashleh

bad bad bad bad bad and I love Kstew. No where near her prettiest shoot.

    • KQ67

The words “helmet head” immediately leap to mind.

    • Oze R.

Nice dress but… but… that open mouth. Always. Why?

      • GorgeousThings

         Mouth breather?

      • l3icest3r

Agree. She should close her mouth and hide those rabbit teef.

        • Oze R.

Wabbit teef are kinda nice sometimes, but with this girl it is becoming ridiculous.

    • Sobaika Mirza

I like the cover, the hair just doesn’t seem very her.

      • Little_Olive

More like giving serious pre-vomit face.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Liz-Norris/26609454 Liz Norris

Yep, that’s exactly what I thought. She looks like she’s about to hurl.

          • FloridaLlamaLover

If you haven’t seen “Speak Like Kristen Stewart” on youtube.  Too funny — and “Kristen” even addresses the idea of looking nauseated…

    • rawrgrowlrawr

It makes me twitch when someone’s teeth are constantly visible. My mother calls it the “stupid bunny” look. Close your mouth, dear.

      • poggi

Very funny.  I know someone who does that, and I will be hard pressed not to think of her as stupid bunny face.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1540233153 Malve Lyborg

Well my teeth are, because of my tooth position (overbite, if that’s the right word). Funny enough my family name would translate nearly into “bunny” in english. I feel stupid now.

        • rawrgrowlrawr

Nah, I bet you are adorable. Only grumpy celebrity teeth bother me. :)

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1540233153 Malve Lyborg

            thx! :)

    • http://www.facebook.com/AdriannaGrezak Adrianna Grężak

      That girl looks miserable

    • RzYoung

Hmm, yeh maybe they had to style it like that? I think the sweep aspect of it doesn’t suit her but the actual length is quite nice? The dress is hiddy though.

    • Little_Olive

Oh COME ON. No. Get her out of there.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=50504968 Stephanie Hutson Erbesfield

If by ‘wheelhouse’, you mean that she only has facial expression, then yes, this look is not in her wheelhouse.

    • Kolo_Ol

The dress looks gorgeous on her!  The hair is baaaaaaaaaaaad

    • golspie

I’m surprised, I think she looks gorgeous on the cover – even has a touch of the Jackie Bissets going on there.

      • Glammie

You’re not alone.  I actually love the top of the dress–as in could I knit something similar and put it on my daughter–and I think the contrast of the dark hair and the white dress is striking.

I do wish she had another expression, but her body angles are good.  She’ll never be the best model, but I had this in my “better-than-usual” category for Stewart.  And she does have an interesting face.

    • SewingSiren

I guess that hair style looks better on her than the model. Poor tragic looking model.

    • PastryGoddess

In order to pull that hairstyle off you need to have the confidence, poise and cheek bones to do so.

Kristen comes across as awkward and while she is a good looking gal, she just can’t handle giving straight FACE.

    • http://twitter.com/watchinginkdry Dr Skylaser

The hair is bad on the model, bad on Leelee, bad on Kristen.  I don’t get why it’s still going around; it’s not like the clothes need it.

    • GorgeousThings

Okay, maybe “unflattering” is a step too far

No, that’s about right. It’s downright unattractive.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I’m sorry but I can’t like that dress.  It’s a dress…with a skirt and shirt over it…seems a bit silly. Just like her hair.

    • Kayceed

Disinterested veering into slack-jawed. And I always thought this ‘do was the original definition of helmet hair.

    • SpcilK

Jackie Kennedy wants her hairstyle back and asked that you don’t pay homage to it anymore Kristen!

    • Pannyx

Everything about this cover looks horrible to me. Everything except the dress, love that.

    • TonyGo

      Darth Vader.

    • Lina_bee

OMG what is that pose? And her facial expression has me rolling: “You seriously want me to play ‘I’m a little teapot’ ? Are you HIGH??”

    • Scimommy

I actually want that dress. And I never want dresses from these fancy runway shows, to me they usually look too “out there”.

    • DinahR

Someone out there keeps trying to make this hairstyle happen.  Stop it, Someone.

Otherwise, I like the outfit.  I’m indifferent to Kristen but I don’t think this is a great cover for her.  She’s got that one expression for photographs and I’ve seen it in editorials where it worked — that one of her in the swimsuits with retro styling comes to mind — but I think it’s run it’s course.  Cute gal but probably should stick to acting and leave modeling to the pros.

    • http://twitter.com/katshimmers Kat Wright

I think the main problem with this photo is that she looks like she’s flexing her muscles (or lack of ??). Just ODD!

    • Sophie Collier

Maybe it’s in the clause: “You can borrow the dress but you MUST wear the back-combed bouffant.”

    • DominoEstella

That hair looks good on no one

    • 3boysful

I quite like the top of the dress–it looks comfortable.  Trying to keep a shorter underlayer from hiking up and revealing your goods looks a great deal less comfortable, however.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=558631967 Ivona Foster

I kind of like it on her

    • Funkyjuicebox

Or… INSIDE HER WORLD OF SLACK-JAWED DISDAIN

    • poggi

I am bothered by the hair style, her sneer, the missing torso of her dress… but most of all, I am wondering what is she leaning against?  Is there a door frame just standing in a field?  Is she miming?  These are the questions I need answered Elle UK–not how do you stay slim forever (I imagine the answer is to be born that way or work your ass off).

      • julnyes

my first thought upon seeing that cover was, “What is she leaning on?”

    • Jessica O’Connell

      SHE ALWAYS LOOKS SO AWKWARD!

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Love the dress hate everything else. I am sorry but the only way that girl looks good is in her Bella grunge get-up. She is certainly cute enough but that is just the most hiddy picture of her I have ever seen.

    • TheOriginalLulu

OOF! Yeah, that’s really unfortunate. Girl, that’s not your hairstyle.

    • AthenaJ

Always with the sullen teenager expression… to me it reads: “Whatever mom, I’m too old for a curfew!”

    • howdoilook

Why does every starlet who wears this line’s dresses feel the need to do that weird helmet-hair? Bizarre.

    • MK03

All I can think when I see her is “…line?”

      Thanks, Rifftrax!

    • judybrowni

      Great dress?

A see-through long dress with a half slip and athletic bra showing through?

      No.

    • bluefish

Have to laugh at the silliness and general pomposity of Elle mag — “KS:  Inside Her World” — Thanx but no thanx.  The dress is hiddy and the hair looks like it would have worked on Beethoven had he posed for fashion rag cover.  Ludwig:  Inside HIs World!  That I might have gone for. Also, really –when does it stop?  “The Secrets to Staying Slim Forever”  — Shut the Front Door.

    • judith traherne

I happen to like ’60s waspy hairstyles but I’m clearly in the minority here.

      • Susan Crawford

You are not alone, dear judith. I love me some old-guard wasp back-combing, too.

      • TieDye64

I like it sometimes, too. It can be fun and chic. I just don’t think everybody can pull it off and I think Ms. Stewart is a prime example of that.

      • Sara__B

The whole ear didn’t show in the classic 60s style. I blame the ugly twist on this hairdo on Jil Sanders, and on the stylists who helped it escape the runway.

    • Pants_are_a_must

As usual, she looks bewildered to be washed and dressed in proper clothes.

    • Kyle Crawford

do we know , for a fact, that she can indeed smile?

    • out for a walk

My main thought, which just goes to show how very interesting I find K Stew and her outfit and hair: WHY didn’t they photoshop it so that her arm way up in the corner was grabbing the top of the second L?! It would have been so little work and then she would look like the 50 ft woman! For shame, Elle editors.

    • guest2visits

Dress is too much like a simple white tee tucked in; almost pretty…. Completely agree about hair.

    • Terence Ng

I like the idea of the top, but the skirt does not work at all in the same way…

    • http://www.myblackfriendsays.com myblackfriendsays

I’ll be glad when she’s not famous anymore. Neither one of us is enjoying it.

    • sleah_in_norcal

the hairstyle looks even worse on the model.  and she looks even crankier than kristin.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=27432316 Ally Monge

Ugh… I know I am maybe alone on this. But I detest Jil Sander’s designs.

      • H3ff

        You detest the label’s designs.

    • TieDye64

Wow, this is not an attractive cover. She looks fine from the neck down, though.

    • rainwood1

The hairstyle is best left in the 60’s and our memories of Jackie O.

    • Nariya

There are a million other retro hairstyles that would have suited her better.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

I dislike this girl so intensely that I can’t judge impartially.  I truly dislike the constant open mouthed snarl, the vacant expression in the eyes – everything about her rubs me the wrong way.  And her hair looks weirder than usual, although it is at least combed for once.  It is hard to fathom how she could be cast as Snow White, against Charlize Theron as the wicked Queen.  Bizarre.

    • JasmineAM

She looks like the stupid fed on The Iron Giant.

    • Anathema_Device

Yeah, the hair is weird, like it comes with the dress. “Nope, you gotta wear the hair if you’re gonna wear the dress.” The dress is well suited to Stewart otherwise.

    • kimmeister

I don’t like dress anyway, but it looks even worse with her arm hiked up like that.  Brings up the bottom edge of the top so that it cuts her mid-boob, so it looks like she has no boobs at all.

    • Zippypie

I wish she would just embrace her awkwardness.  She looks so uncomfortable, I’m squirming for her.

    • Nonnah

There are certain photos I see and think “This is the best shot they got?”

      • http://twitter.com/Lola99959 Veronika Kaufmann

I think it’s the only shot they can get off this chick.

    • I’ve Got Rocks In My Bed

That child always looks so damn bored.

    • quiltrx

You took the words before I got there…what is the deal with this collection and matchy-match hair?  A shame, because she looks pretty otherwise.

    • Lisa

Oh, I just hate this look on her.  And you know, it’s not like they haven’t done her up in retro before, and it looked good on her.  But this just misses by miles.

    • http://www.facebook.com/alexandra.pimenta Alexandra Gama Lima Pimenta

I don’t know what you guys are talking about. I think Dr. Zira is looking quite fabulous on that cover.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/K3O2QNXDJIU3AJINAGNJRYWDZ4 mrspotts66

does she truly not have any other expression?  UGH.
i’m going to have to start bypassing posts about her.

    • megalomania79

OMG, does she EVER shut her mouth!  Just a mouth breather, I guess…

    • mozzer0906

Great dress, terrible hair.  Lipstick could have been a shade darker too.
