Katherine Heigl in West Hollywood

Posted on April 09, 2012

Hi Kathy!

You probably hate being called Kathy, right? Who cares? Let’s get a look at you.

Valentino Rockstud Leather Tote

Yes! We saw the bag! Well done. Also, not that you care what we think, this outfit is kinda retro-cute. We like tone-on-tone because it can be flattering and it photographs well. Personally, we think the blue necklace is a bridge too far, but that’s just us. A pop of orange there would have been divine. And of course, we can’t let it go by uncommented that your shoes match your purse. That’s not a crime and we find ourselves tired of bitching about it so much, but it’s just a bit too obvious when the outfit’s already so matchy, mkay?

But still: super-cute look, girl! We want to have mid-day drinks with you and then go drunk-shopping!

  • These are excellent colors on her, and I love the headband.  Are those coming back?

    • Sobaika Mirza

I hope so! I love a good headband (as does my unruly hair).

  • Man, I love drunk-shopping. (Until the credit card statement comes, that is.)

    • I’ve bought some BAD stuff while drunk-shopping.

      • Elaine Lang

I want to drunk-shop with TLo so I’ll have fabulous stuff and toned abs (from all the laughing) when it’s over.

  • When I was a little kid, my mom was active in a charity that hosted bingo at the local nursing home. We’d go along sometimes and Mom would let me and my brother take around the prize trays to the winners to pick out their prices.  The tray for women always had a big necklace with large beads that was big enough for the winner to slip over her head – old hands have a hard time with clasps.

Necklaces like this take me immediately back to that prize tray.

And really, this whole look is a bit “chic grandma” no?

    • Chic grandma is kind of her thing right?  I mean, her short hair cut practically mimics the same one her mom has.

      • Still, it’s better than how she usually dresses. At least she’s not in a parka with flip flops or pumping gas in a $10,000 outfit or whatever.

        • LMAO.  Preach!

        • Nelliebelle1197

But she still looks like a South Florida retiree. Doesn’t she have ANY friends?

          • JosephLamour

Is it just me, or does her serious face give notes of Kenya Michaels?

          • Nelliebelle1197

            Or her mother

      • schadenfreudelicious

agreed, hip granny always comes to mind when i see her street shots, maybe she does her drunk shopping after bridge club??

        • Carla_Charlton

Completely agree.  She has so much potential and when in styled photographs, looks great.  But that necklace –that batwing top–grandma on a cruise.

      • Jennifer Coleman

She looks 68% better without those heinous sunglasses that add 2 decades to her age on.

    • mountainFashionista

There’s something about her that always seems matronly to me; describing it at “chic grandma” is a kinder way of saying it!

    • BrooklynBomber

My first thought was: “Totie Fields.”

    • ballerinawithagun

That was my first thought also, you said it perfectly, “chic grandma”.

  • Little_Olive

I cannot with those sunglasses. Stop wearing them. Especially stop wearing them ALL THE TIME.

    Everything else, agree with TLo.

    • NinaBoo

This x a bajillion. I live in Southern California and I’m considering driving into LA so I can snatch those things off her face and take her to the nearest Sunglasses Hut for a pair on me.

    • octopol

I think wearing the same sunglasses all of the time is refreshingly normal.

      • Little_Olive

I don’t want her to turn into a Kardashian; only that she wears ones that suit her face.

  • Hate the headband, not sold on the necklace, but overall I think she looks great. She’s good at this girl on the street schtick, isn’t she?

  • Love this and totally agree about the necklace.

  • Love this and totally agree about the necklace.

  • Why does she always dress like a Boca retiree?

    • AthenaJ

Exactly what I was thinking!! This look is more early bird special than mid-day drinks.

  • vanjar

Nice bag! I don’t know what’s she carrying it in the first picture, but she needs a bigger bag for that thing.

  • Patricia Gillett

She looks cute. I would only ditch the headband. If you are contractually obligated wave a $2,000 handbag at a bunch of cameras, at least you can be comfy doing it and she does look comfy.

  • The necklace and the bag and shoe colors make it old. Do not like.

  • DeborahLipp

    Soccer mom.

    • Derek_anny

Soccer greatAunt.  The soccer mom’s cool aunt.

  • Laurie Bergman

YES to an orange necklace.  The blue-on-blue is nice, but as several have noted, she has a knack for looking about 45 years older than her actual age.  Also, I know it’s probably contractual, but all of these LOOK AT MY BAG GET A SHOT OF MY BAG shots of the wimmin celebs are close to making me scream.

  • KQ67

All I see is old lady wear when I look at her. Of course I hate her so that probably doesn’t help.

  • It’s a little obvious and theme-y. Normally only someone like Drew Barrymore can get away with that kind of costume. But luckily, Katherine’s look is pretty cute. Next time, don’t try so hard with the hair.

  • joancarol

That necklace makes my left clavicle hurt. She must have been constantly adjusting it to stay asymmetrical.
     Or it’s glued on.

  • I loathe her, but I do love that outfit. It’s cute and casual.

  • howdoilook

I’m just noticing now how much she looks like a Judd.

    • Little_Olive

It’s uncanny. Except she should get herself a pair of eyebrows.

    • Beth G

I had the EXACT same reaction.

    • TieDye64

Oh, you’re right. Never saw it before.

    • BrooklynBomber

Yea, I’ve said that before: she and Ashley Judd should be cast as sisters.

  • Judy_J

I agree about the necklace.  Orange would have been a much better choice.  But still, it’s a cute look and she looks fresh as a daisy.

  • kimmeister

I don’t like the shoes with this look (or ever, really), but I do love the turquoise & royal blue combo.

  • Love the shoes hate the purse. Love the pants and top. Hate the necklace and the headband.  Love the glasses, but the girl’s gotta keep them on. She looks a little “i need sunglasses on” without them.

  • I love it. All of it. Ok, the shoes didn’t need to match the bag but she looks super-cute.

  • sarahofalessergod

She looks adorable, not a word I usually use for her.

  • I could do without the off-kilter necklace. Why is it off center in some pics? Is that intentional? For those of you loving the headbands, check out Anthropologie for their collection of headbands and hair ornaments– really cute stuff.

  • elleg929

I am shocked she is not wearing some form of outerwear.  Homegirl loves her jackets!

  • Great call on the orange necklace.  Would have been awesome.  She still looks great.

  • Kayceed

I think she looks great – put together and fresh. She digs the matchy look, and wears it unironically and unselfconsciously. I like it.

  • She certainly looks pulled together, but lord is that matronly.

  • Sara__B

Cute, yes, but also on the matronly side. Perhaps it’s the tone-on-tone and the matching shoes and purse, because this looks like something my crowd would wear, and I’m 60.

    • Call me Bee

Yes!  I was going to say that I could totally wear this whole outfit and look good–and I’m 58!  Actaully–I’d skip the necklace–that would look matronly even on me.

  • She always dresses like an old lady.

  • unbornfawn

Love that the girls are playing with color today. The blues and the cut of the top are very 80’s to me. She’s out on the street, so I can forgive the matchy, matchy, casual fun for spring.

  • poggi

I can’t put my finger always on why, but she has a knack for making things look matronly. I can see someone else wearing this and looking fresher and younger.  Maybe its her hair color?  She definitely looks younger without the sunglasses.

    • Sally Brownson

I think it’s because her looks are much more naturally wholesome-beauty than sexy-beauty, and I personally associate that kind of look with 50s stars.

      • poggi

I think you may be right. It may also be something about that very light blonde hair with her coloring that seems to age her too. Maybe a more natural blonde would make her seem fresher and more youthful.

  • Yay, drunk shopping! I know what I’m doing this afternoon! Oh and yes, she looks cute. Still hate her.

  • TheAutisticStepmom

I LOVE this on her.  Gorgeous.

  • MilaXX

At least she actually looks like she lives in Cali for a change. I also think that’s not her necklace, but overall it’s a cute look. Still can’t stand her, but she looks cute.

  • guest2visits

I know she’s really beautiful under all this ladies-who-lunch costume.
But; this kind of contrived fashion makes me erk alittle bit.
I like the shoes, the glasses. Nothing in between.

  • Susan Crawford

Love the blue-on-blue, and if that necklace had been in coral it would have been SPECTACULAR! But I’m not complaining, because overall, she looks SO good! The headband is great on her, and the Valentino purse is definitely worth showing off. I would maybe have gone with a cool, strappy sandal instead of the pumps, but overall, I would definitely want to hang out with Kathy and do a little shopping.

  • alyce1213

When I was 10 years I may have put together those two colors.  It’s like mixing uncomplementary reds and pinks.
Now that I am grown up, I know better.  Those colors are contentious relatives, not friends.
I also don’t like pointy high-heeld pumps with skin tight pants.
I simply can’t believe folks are loving this look — I think it has no sophistication and it’s cheap-looking, Valentino bag notwithstanding.

  • nannypoo

I like the outfit. Sadly, it’s on Katherine Heigl.

  • TheOriginalLulu

She looks really cute. Love the bright, pretty blue. Agreed that a pop of orange would have been better.

  • Caaro3

A $2000 purse is insane.  Yuck.

  • My only complaint is that she has slight polterwang in the first shot.

  • JackieOBlue

Drunk shopping is so much more fun with friends.

  • Candigirl1968

It’s a cute outfit, but once again, she looks a bit old with this look.  Even when she isn’t looking matronly, she still doesn’t look terribly youthful (and I mean, not young like twenty, but young like, not 45).

  • Pants_are_a_must

Too much with the jewelry and the hair. Also, that bag is nothing to write home about, but girl needs to promote, I guess.

  • miagain

I think your drink would have to be orange juice… isn’t she a Mormon?

  • That last picture is the face I make when I’ve lost my car.

  • judybrowni

My first thought: not retro, but “Golden Girls” remake.

Why does Heigl dress like a 50 year-old?

  • TieDye64

You know, I’m liking this outfit for the color and the retro vibe. But, it would look so much cuter and fresher (younger) with a pair of  flats in a fun color and by removing the necklace. Somehow she ends up adding years to whatever she’s wearing.

  • turtleemily

I can’t tell if the jeans are supposed to be that length or if she liked them but they weren’t in stock in long.

  • oatmealpie

Is she a 40-year-old mom planning a charity event over pricey cocktails? If so, then this outfit is perfect.

  • This is probably the youngest she’s looked in a while. Great colors on her. Love the headband. So glad she doesn’t look frumpy for once!

  • tsid2012

Cute, I love the blues on her.  The necklace is good, not great, but I like it enough.  But… do the pants seem very, very tight?

  • PeaceBang

That necklaces is pure Chico’s, and yes, that IS a bad thing (I remember we got into a class war some years ago on the old TLo blog about Chico’s-bashing. I am always ready to stand tall and bash Chico’s accessories).

  • I had that shirt in the early 80’s in Jr. High.  Dolman sleeve banded bottom.  I had it in many colors and sleeve lengths.  Didn’t know they were back?!?

    • Lisa

Yes!!  I had the same shirt in 1981 when I was 17!

  • LambeeBaby

She looks good, but I thought it was Jessica Simpson in the first photo and I don’t think they look alike at all.

  • Carlodog

She’s in her 60s, right?   Ugh, she is SO unfashionable, she always looks awful.

  • ccm800

She makes everything look KMart to me.

  • I think she looks old. She dresses like my mother. Sorry, but if this were an IN or OUT post I’d give her an OUT.

  • holdmewhileimnaked

    that sweatshirt is hideous.

  • bitterk

She totally looks like Kathy from Dallas

  • Lulu Lafurge

Pants too tight (see photo 5)/

  • snarkykitten

    that necklace is hideous

  • Lisa

My god, must she *always* insist on dressing like the mom on “The Wonder Years”?

  • Do any of you commenters live in LA? Because I will pay you money if you’ll steal those hideous granny sunglasses that she’s always wearing.

  • lrhoff

Those pants are so unflattering.  I’m not impressed.

  • DebbieLovesShoes

    love it.  adorbs

  • Exactly how a HAS BEEN should dress up.

    • judybrowni

I didn’t get the Heigl hate until after I’d seen one too many of her “romantic comedies” on cable.

Plus, she ruined the Stephanie Plum character for movies, for evah.

Dressing like the Golden Girls does nothing to redeem her in my eyes.

  • Stick to ONE hair accessory at a time! Clip or headband. Headband or clip! Never both! Agree that the necklace was overdoing it, but love the look overall.

  • Judih1

those pants look too tight for my taste

  • bluefish

This poor woman cannot dress herself to save her life.  Atrocious combo.
