Jessica Chastain for Vogue Italia

Posted on April 09, 2012

Looking at these pics of Jessica Chastain (featured in the April issue of Vogue Italia, photographed by Michelangelo di Battista and styled by Alice Gentilucci), a wave of nostalgia swept over us unexpectedly. Remember awards season, darlings? Remember when she treated us to an array of mostly unfortunate outfits in her months-long poledance for the big prize? Fun times.

And here’s another reminder of why we used to take such pleasure in yelling at her, back in those halcyon days: it’s because when she’s put in the hands of pros and styled for pictures, she often looks about a kazillion times better than she ever looks on the RC. Gorgeous little glamour editorial. Your pretty for the day, in fact.

Oh, Jess. Come back to the red carpet wearing inappropriate shoes and the wrong shade of lip again. We had such fun together, didn’t we?

Wow. She looks about 100x better than any of the models. That Proenza dress in particular comes alive on her.

    • kimmeister

Her booty comes alive in the Proenza, wowzers!

      • Geoff Dankert

        THIS.

    • PhillipWilde

Are you forgetting how fabulous she looks in the Dior?

      • http://smalltownbigwardrobe.wordpress.com Catherine

The Dior is also amazing on her. A redhead who complains they can’t wear red should be shown this picture.

    • Nelliebelle1197

She should never be allowed to dress herself again

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I need to know where to buy that hair. Immediately.

    • christinewithanx

My “enhanced” hair is pretty much that color and I use Feria Copper Shimmer.

  • FashionShowAtLunch

LOVE the Fendi. I would rock that shit in a heartbeat.

  • butterflysunita

The photo of her in the jeweled Dolce and Gabbana is beautiful.  Love the earrings.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Patrick-Cleary/1201575213 Patrick Cleary

Wow, somebody really loves that wallpaper.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1183772509 Jen Hughes

Gah. She should always wear her hair like that. ALWAYS. I also want all of these clothes (if they made them bigger than a size 12 *ahem*).

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Amazing.  She looks awesomely lovely, and all the clothes are sumptuous, and marvelously shot.

  • TAGinMO

Egads. I think the way they posed her in that Valentino is the only conceivable angle from which that schmatta could ever look good.

(That’s not to say she doesn’t look great start-to-finish here.)

    • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

I totally agree — that dress is one fugly mess in a group of otherwise lovely and flattering dresses.

      • ballerinawithagun

        Agree.

  • NC_Meg

It’s so funny that you guys said that because when I saw this was her editorial, before I even opened the post, I thought, “Aw, Jessica Chastain. I miss seeing her everywhere.”

These are gorgeous. I love that bejeweled D&G.

  • crash1212

Those are some beautiful clothes and she looks better in most of them than the model does. Wonder if she can hire this team to style her forever? Might be a good investment. Lovely.

  • Claire Amandry

Didn’t you once wrote somewhere that miss Chastain just did not take a good picture ? Obviously she heard and practised – she looks divine. Love the Blumarine dress.

  • Laurie Bergman

She looks fab in everything, but I think the Prada is my favorite on her.  That’s such a gimmicky collection and she just looks totally at home in that dress.  (“Jessica: The Girl Who Was On Fire.”)

    • Spicytomato1

I think it’s my favorite, too. I wish I had someplace I could wear it!

  • schadenfreudelicious

She looks wonderful, much better than the models in many shots, but for the love of gawd can we dispense with the bejeweled bird necklaces ?… the wallpaper is fowl enough…:)

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

Wow! Love her in the Blumarine dress but I hope she’s not wearing the same shoes as the runway model. Those look like they’re covered in Christmas tinsel.

  • nancylee61

Don’t like the Prada, but she looks fabulous in that Fendi picture!!! And I LOVE the Dolce & Gabbana.

  • MinkaL

I LOVE that Proenza Schouler. That print is just gorgeous. And there’s just something so effortlessly sexy about a redhead rocking bright red lips. J’adore.

  • norseofcourse

She’s making that Proenza Schouler look so Jessica Rabbit. In a good way.

  • Ceur

    PERFECT hair.

  • Rebecca Johnson

Get the digits of this stylist, lady! You’re so good on screen and so terrible on the red carpet.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_64HSRZWCSJ5RBFGCWDLFQOICYM G

    Rita Hayworth-esque.

  • JimMcC

HOLY CRIKEY. Everything here looks AMAZING. The clothes, the hair, the woman, the locations. Can I live inside this photographer’s eye?

    Wait…that sounded gross.

  • SpcilK

Love it. I die for the Valentio and Prada, she is serving up drama.

  • BrooklynBomber

I want that Blumarine dress and that Fendi sweater more than is good for me.

She looks fabulous. Better than the models. And I’m jealous of her ability to wear red lipstick. I cannot.

  • giiiirrrr

Pretty freakin’ fabulous.  I’m annoyed at how much I like that Dolce & Gabbana dress, as normally I find their stuff tacky as hell.  This has the bejebus bedazzled out of it, and yet, adorbs.  Not at all annoyed that I love the Proenza Schouler.  Classy vampy.

  • Sarah Thomas

And in the biopic, the role of Florence Welch will be played by…

    • http://www.facebook.com/charlotte.horseman Charlotte Horseman

      She wishes!!

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/J2VE4NE2FY2BP4QD2XOYKJGLPI Laura

Many of these in red carpet lighting wouldn’t look nearly as good. The hair, though, is especially great.

  • http://profiles.google.com/phyllis.craine Phyllis Craine

    She is Old Hollywood gorgeous

  • MilaXX

She looks great. My fav is the jeweled dress. Sadly she is not werqing those flame shoes even though I like the dress. Is there such as thing as too matchy macthy when it comes to flame themed clothing?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=678337501 Carla Axtman

The Blumarine and the Dior are KILLER. She is rocking that shit like nobody’s business.

  • Ms_Flyover

I think Prada created the shoe that won’t die for Spring 2012.

  • janetjb

    Very pretty.

Love the Proenza Schouler and Bluemarine.

  • la_lala

She’s really beautiful, but I seem to be incapable of remembering her. Every time I see her, it’s like, “Who’s that? She’s pretty!”

  • Spicytomato1

Wow, that face, that hair, those fashions. She looks incredible…glamourous, sexy, fresh and dare I say even fierce?

I think the D & G is my least favorite. And I can’t decide on a favorite, I want them all!

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

I love every single one of those dresses. Especially the Bluemarine. Yum!
Oh, yeah, and she looks good too.

  • holdmewhileimnaked

i would say the fendi was one of the least attractive outfits i’ve ever seen in my life, but that honor goes to the valentino. who decided that thing was a good idea–to make, even, but after they’d made it, to show it? why? why? it’s a lace bag tied around a model to turn her into a box.

otoh, the way this is styled & shot, wow, all of it–even those two wonderful pieces of fashion dreck–look great on JChastain. & the shoes they paired w/ the world’s worst valentino–wow.

    edited to add:
then again, they’ve shot her sitting down. probably not only cos the dress is so hideous the only way to show it is in parts but also cos the shoes were not made for walking.

  • Lulu Lafurge

I’ve promised myself that when I lose 20 pounds and as many years I will buy myself all of those dresses – except for the Valentino and the Dior.

  • ChaCha_70

Ah!! I wish I could have that hair color! Lately, I’ve wanted to dye my hair red but am afraid to because I’ve never seen a natural looking dye job. Is she a natural redhead?

    • http://twitter.com/ennisamy Amy Ennis

I’ve been a *ahem* “natural” redhead for years. The color can be done correctly. I do mine myself with Colorsilk. I think the key is to begin with subtle red tones then work your way toward the vavavoom color you want.

      • hexiadetrix

        Ah, so fake then.

        Jessica looks fab.

    • alyce1213

I was a natural redhead, but have faded and greyed a bit, so I’ve tried everything, including professional coloring.  I’ve  never been happy retrieving my *real* color until I came upon Couture Color (available at Sephora), for $30 — 3x the price of L’Oreal, but I’m worth it! I use Strawberry Blonde, but they have a deeper red too.  Excellent product from small boutique company.  It’s vibrant, but very natural.

  • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

JESSICA. GURL. GET THE NAME OF THIS STYLIST. LOOK AT HOW PRETTY YOU CAN BE.

I still think she looks prettier in motion than in pictures, though. Although these clothes all look incredible on her. (Especially the Proenza Schouler…daaaaaaamn.)

  • Pannyx

I think she looks good in the clothes, but she really can’t model. She looks uncomfortable in all the picutres except the last one.

    • Kolo_Ol

I absolutely disagree. As I was looking at these, it struck me how well she sells herself on these pages.

  • enchanted216

    Oh so pretty:)

  • Cortney Dean

    Full on fabulous.

  • http://twitter.com/nkk Nikki

LOVE that necklace with the Dior- it makes it! She even shoots straight on well (or ‘shopped well, but I’m hoping the former)

and I think she’s fun! Anyone see her do the BAFTA Orange thing with Miss Piggy- oh, she won me over…

  • erinbinek

    Love huh.

  • turtleemily

What are the shoes in the Valentino shot and has anybody been shown walking in them? And that Blumarine dress is gorgeous but reads as “teenager” to me.

She looks better than the model in all of these, especially the Prada.

    • http://twitter.com/ennisamy Amy Ennis

I didn’t notice the shoes until you pointed them out. They look like the jet engine roller skate shoes you used to see on Tom and Jerry.

  • EEKstl

OMIGOD, having shortness of breath over that Dolce & Gabbana.  And that Proenza Schouler…heaven!

  • http://www.joannao.blogspot.com JoannaOC

A gorgeous woman in somewhat random clothing.

  • http://twitter.com/Eovaai Eovaai

She looks fantastic. The Proenza and the Blumarine dresses in particular look like they were made for her.

  • Anathema_Device

Oh god I love these dresses, the Blumarine one especially…but I’ll take any of them if someone is handing them out.

And, yes, you are so right about Chastain. I covet her hair.

  • http://twitter.com/delysia_lafosse Delysia LaFosse

She is really rocking the shit out of all of these looks, but my favorite on her is the Dolce & Gabanna. She’s really outworking the runway models.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

    I covet the Prada Car.

  • http://www.facebook.com/corinne.bourgoin Corinne Bourgoin

Third shot = flame haired Stephanie Seymour.

  • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com/ Rebecca

Those D&G shoes. In mah closet. Now, please.

  • DCSheehan

Anyone who doesn’t think fashion can be uplifting should be shown these pictures. They’re simple and yet stunning. Hard to pick a fave here but the D&G jewel dress is a piece of art.

  • Pants_are_a_must

Is it just me, or is she channeling her inner Jolie in here?

  • http://twitter.com/LOfficielEbony TheVeryLivingEND

I love that D&G! Give me a slew of semi=precious stones, and I’m all yours!

  • Jessica Goldstein

Honestly, I knew she was really pretty with great skin and hair, but I had no idea she was this gorgeous! She’s exceedingly well suited to the old Hollywood glam style of hair and makeup, and this editorial is stunning.

  • quiltrx

Wow, they picked some fabulous pieces for her.  I love all the shots.  I hope she was taking notes!

  • guest2visits

This girl is stunning! In-every-single-design!   The photograghy is genius. I can’t decide if the red Dior is my favorite,
or the unique bejeweled D&G.  Or the Blumarine.
This may be Vogue Italia; but it looks like it was shot entirely in L.A.; is that typical?

    • ballerinawithagun

Definitely looks like L.A. right down to the car with flames. The flames have been around for at least 20 years in the car scene. I’ve been laughing ever since Prada suddenly decided to co-op the look. You really need tatoos to work it though.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Julie-Chase/731391326 Julie Chase

She’s so stunning. The Bluemarine and Prada dresses can be gifted to me at any time fashion genies. Make it happen.

  • gabbilevy

Oh Jess, darling, how hard can it be? Soft hair, clean makeup, the right shade of red lipstick. Everything else will just fall into place.

  • lizajane1776

Each new photo, the sexy kept ramping up.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/Q7OFOCRDYLO5C6MWSE4PIBT32M KSP MN Org Committee

    Wowza!

  • understateddiva

Hate the tendency to try to make her look so sexy and vampy, when she has a clean, pretty look.  She looks nice here, but I don’t buy the bad-ass stuff.

  • http://twitter.com/ennisamy Amy Ennis

I used to have that D&G dress in sweater form. It didn’t look nearly that spectacular, and my jewels were fake.

  • lonepear

Oh, *that’s* who is supposed to be wearing some of those fugly-ass dresses. I knew they had to be made for someone but couldn’t imagine who. Apparently it’s her. She looks great.

  • Maddie_Faddenoid

The Blumarine dress is to die for.

    • sleah_in_norcal

i love it too!  the color and the print would look good on me.  too bad i can’t wear a fitted waist-  and of course i’m broke.

  • fiestyfashionfem

So sick of seeing that Prada stuff everywhere.  But, omg, that gorgeous Proenza – so so pretty on her.

  • kingderella

    breathtaking.
    joan holloways lil sis!

  • ballerinawithagun

    Fabulous hair!
The wallpaper looks horrible behind that great Blumarine dress.
Still laughing at the Prada flames.

    • sleah_in_norcal

it looks like she’s lying on the floor to me, and the photos are shot from above her head looking down.  or am i hallucinating?

  • NilBlur

Beautiful.  She looks like a cross between Jerry Hall and Stephanie Seymour, which is a pretty good cross!!

  • PeggyOC

I want that prada dress.  Does it come with the car?

  • TheAutisticStepmom

That smile is definitely her best accessory.  Gorgeous.

  • Judy_J

Love all the dresses, especially that Blumarine.  And she looks absolutely stunning in that Proenza Schouler.

  • mcarlson

Love the Blumarine and Proenza Shuler dresses.

  • nannypoo

Very beautiful. Great hair and makeup.

  • http://twitter.com/FXchick Stephanie Pino

Is it me. . . because I never get sick of looking at her. She’s just so old-Hollywood gorgeous.

  • TheOriginalLulu

She can look so beautiful with the right clothing and makeup.
Love the pic in the red Dior and the one where she’s leaning out the car window. So pretty.

  • sleah_in_norcal

looks like she’s wearing a neck brace in that last shot.  that’s what she gets for sticking her head out the car window like that.

  • Susan Crawford

Jessica in that red Dior? Old-school, drop-dead glamour. And ALL the looks suit her perfectly. Jess, when it’s red carpet time, put Alice Gentilucci on speed dial, because she can work magic for you!

  • momogus

She looks perfectly perfecto in every picture!! That D&G dress – swoon.

  • amywinns

    Spectacular. So dreamy and gorgeous!

  • Lilak

All the little hairs on my arms are standing up!!!!

  • alyce1213

    Just breathtaking.

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Gorge.  I want that Blumarine dress so bad it almost hurts!  Blargh!

  • terekirkland

She is killing it in the Dior! Even with–are those round toe red velvet pumps? :P–the shoes. Love the necklace.

  • http://twitter.com/UnderTheDark Andrea B

Ah, so this is how Florence Welch should be dressing!

  • http://heartprintandstyle.blogspot.com Vivi N

I still believe she looks way older than 30 years old.
