In or Out: Krysten Ritter in Vintage

Posted on April 26, 2012

We’ll give this chickie credit for being consistent. She’s got a look and she’s gonna flog it for all it’s worth.

Krysten Ritter attends the premiere of “The Raven” in LA in a vintage dress paired with ‘Danielle’ pumps by Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet.

But we don’t know, you guys. It’s cute, but it’s a little bit Rose Nylund, yes? And we’re all for gals (and guys) rocking the vintage looks, but that looks awfully synthetic and shiny for pictures. What we’re saying is: cute dress, but it looks a little on the cheap side. We find ourselves picturing it with a belt or more modern-looking shoes; anything to bump it up a little.

Are we bitches?

Vote Now!

IN! You are, in fact, bitches. She looks adorable.

OUT! Cheap ’80s secretary dress.

The Precious Unborn Fawns were not in love with Michelle Williams’ dress, which was not so much Rose Nylund as rose-nippled, voting it both twee-as-fuck and subsequently OUT.

  • naw; i think she looks adorable.  in!

    • Nelliebelle1197

But it does look cheap and shiny. Cute cannot conquer cheap and shiny.

  • lovelyivy

OF COURSE you’re bitches. It’s why i come here!

ETA: And it doesn’t make you less right on this one.

  • mountainFashionista

It’s a skosh short, and it would’ve looked adorable with a belt, and her posing is pretty awful in a teenager-in-front-of-her-mirror kind of way, but other than that, it’s interesting and unusual, and she looks rockin’!

  • IN – those shoes are FABULOUS!

    • Sobaika Mirza

    • Seriously, they are FIERCE, I wish the carpet wasn’t black.

  • You don’t need me to tell you…you are bitches…In.

  • janedonuts

Thoroughly meh about this look. But then I’m thoroughly meh about her. (Though I did like her in Breaking Bad.)

  • IN – She looks fabulous!

  • Back in St. Olaf, Krysten Ritter would be IN and declare TLo picky bitches.

    • MoHub

A little longer, and Betty White might wear it better.

  • sagecreek

IN. Although she needs to stop with the wide leg stance.

  • TAGinMO

Desperately needs a big, chunky belt. Still, mild IN from me.

  • I’m not seeing Rose Nyland at all. She looks adorable. IN

  • Meh. It’s a little on the shiny side, but she looks good. In.

  • IN. Locking your knees out like that has to hurt but she looks great and the shoes are gorgeous.

    • TheOriginalLulu

As Fernando from SNL circa 1980s would say, “It’s better to look good than to feel good and you look mah-velous”.

  • A belt would be nice, but she looks adorable. In.

  • TSkot

You already know you’re bitches so why are you asking?

Regardless, she looks adorable and gets an IN!

  • holdmewhileimnaked

i keep thinking this is john ritter’s daughter though i know she isnt.
the next thing i’m going to think is that she is parker posey.
i dont know why anyone ever wanted to wear an 80s secretary dress in the first place, in the evermiserable 80s.
so i cant imagine why someone would hack off the bottom six inches & wear it now.

  • Imasewsure

She looks adorable and you gals is bitches in this case only

  • IN, thought i do think a belt or bold necklace would have broken up the print a little bit that seems to swallow her up top. am i the only one bothered by her hair? it looks like a fried helmet of black.

  • claudemtl777

I was thinking Rose too, but Rose McGowan…I dont get a Golden Girls feel, but I agree it would take at least a belt to make it an IN

  • OUT. Love the shoes, but you’re right: the dress is too shiny and needs a belt.

  • IAmJ

A definite OUT. Mainly because the shoes (and the dress too) look so so cheap to me.

  • karena10

In. I think it’s cute, it suits her and it certainly goes with the backdrop.

  • IN! You’re bitches, and not even in Apt. 23! And no belt, mostly because her waist is what, like a 25?

  • Lina_bee

Out. This print needs a better cut. She is cute and the colors are good, but the dress needs to be better.

  • ThaliaMenninger

Definitely looks cheap and kind of baggy on her. OUTTTTT.

  • IN. Too bad the “red” carpet is as dark as a movie theater, cus those are some killa shoes.

  • SpcilK

She’s In. Yes, the material is shiny and a belt would have liven things up a bit.

  • In! She’s the best. And I love the detailing on the shoes.

  • I see your point, but she looks cute as all hell. IN.

  • Kayceed

She’s in, but mostly because I get a kick out of her every changing moods – Bemused! Relaxed! Not Amused. Winsome!

  • sashaychante

IN  Cute vintage look.  LUV the shoes.  I think a belt might be too busy on this already busy print.

    • MilaXX

I think she could have done a thin, black belt, but it’s a minor quibble at best.

  • TheOriginalLulu

I want to get her drunk and steal her shoes.

  • LesYeuxHiboux

I like the dress. She’s like Zooey Deschanel with the ability to make facial expressions. IN

  • charlotte

In. And talk about a dress matching the backdrop…

  • Oh Kenley, where are you when someone needs you?  She and Krysten are made for each other.  Still … in, because this is SO her look.

  • Sophie Collier

IN.  It’s fine. Nothing amazing, but perfectly nice.

  • It’s cute, but not exciting. Maybe it could use a belt, but I love the shoes she has on.

  • MilaXX

small IN. This has always been her look. It’s not earth shattering, but there’s nothing really wrong with it.

  • hughman

    “Are we bitches?”

    Does the Pope wear Prada?

  • alyce1213

Much more Sue Ann Nivens than Rose Nylund (Google if you don’t know).  The shoes are fancy, but cheap-looking.
So kind of OUT, even though I generally like vintage.

Speaking of mean leading characters, is anyone out there old enough to remember “Buffalo Bill” ca 1983 with Dabney Coleman in his heyday?  Now that was a funny show.

    • sagecreek

I am absolutely not old enough to remember that. Not at all, not one bit, how dare you suggest it…

      • alyce1213

Yes of course my parents told me about it. (snort)

  • carolynmo

Oh, IN, I guess. Meh-in. I just coined a fashion term!

  • Dhammadina

    Ditto. Adorable. In.

  • nannypoo

It’s cute. I don’t know who she is so I will just pretend that she is Ann Hathaway’s long lost sister.

  • Lovely look, IN!

  • marilyn

In.  She is cute.  The shoes are just enough.  Besides, it does not hurt to tuck away an outfit or two like this in case the starlet thing does not work out.

  • fungstyle

definitely and in, you keep asking for variety on the red carpet and miss lady brings that for sure. but yes she could have made it a bit more interesting with better styling (as per usual)

  • fireontiger

I like it even if it does look sort of cheap. IN.

  • In.She’s what Zooey aspires to. On another note, are (is?) TLo Golden Girls fans?

  • Suede is so before March 21…..

  • IN. I tend to love everything she wears. It’s what I’d like to look like if I had any sense of style (or money to buy those shoes).

    • holdmewhileimnaked

i’m sure you can have the dress, or a version of it, on ebay for maybe twenty bucks.

  • Cute! I say IN.

  • Sara__B

It DOES need a belt, but she looks adorable. In.

  • Pannyx

In, I think she looks great.

  • BrooklynBomber

Oh, it’s too bad they shortened it that much. It’s so wrong for the dress.

    • formerlyAnon

Thank-you. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it and why I was fixating on her knees.

  • bitterk

    Horrible length on her

  • janetjb

The color suits her, but otherwise it’s just okay.

  • I think it might be better with a belt. But damn it, she looks great and I LOVE the shoes!

  • Only a thin belt would work, she’s got one of those small torsos. Heels a little too big, shoes a bit too boring.  But all these are minor quibbles, the gal has style and chic. IN.

  • Those shoes are cool. And here legs look miles long. INNNNN.

  • IN. She looks cute.

  • Judih1

    Out – secretary dress indeed

  • IN!!! love the shoes!

  • girliecue

    Bitches, she’s In!

  • PaulaBerman

I think she looks cute. She is rocking those shoes and that Winona-in-Beetlejuice hair. I like the syntho-vintage dress. IN.

  • jw_ny

She (and when I say she I mean her stylist) chose it because it matches the back drop of the movie…the epitome of matchy matchy. That must stop!  If it weren’t for that, she’d have gotten an IN from me.

A little black belt would have looked great with it.

  • Zippypie

Needs a belt, but it’s cute.  She’s got her thing going.

  • j_anson

  • KikiB1

    poor man’s Dita–OUT

  • tvmovielover

Cheap can still be cute!  IN.  Question though, are these runway gals given great shoes (these are good shoes) for the picture and then they put on something comfortable?  These shoes like in many other pictures do not look like her size.

  • Joyce VG

IN,  I like the dress and the shoes are killa.

  • formerlyAnon

Out, though I know it’s a little harsh. She’s beautiful but somehow there’s nothing special about the end result. All it would have taken is one more touch – a matching hat? hair ornament? A more dramatic hair style?

I don’t know, but it all feels kind of flat. There’s no reason for a beautiful woman with gorgeous hair (the raw material, not necessarily the style) and a great pair of shoes to look so not-special on the red carpet.  Oh, and she has the knees of a mere mortal when they’re locked like that. Flex ’em a tad, sweetie.

  • MzzPants

Yes, you’re bitches.  It’s why we love you.

She looks put-together.  A belt might have been nice, but not necessary.  I’m guessing this was 80’s goes to church.  She was smart to have it shortened.

  • Jessi03

    Bitches.  IN!

  • Dejah_Thoris

I think you’re just being ornery because she matches the backdrop, otherwise you would probably like it.

She looks great. Very pretty and happy.

  • NurseEllen

A belt would have made this dress better, agreed, but even without it she looks just fine.  Not a really memorable fashion outing but nothing wrong with it, either…….which means, IN.

  • sleepycat

In, but the hair is pretty bad. Also she blends into the backdrop which I am not sure is a good thing.

  • IN. But I’d belt it.

  • In.  Sorry she’s working it and I think the shoes are fab!

  • howdoilook

  • ErmengardeGreen

I agree: cute idea that needed better, more intentional styling. Also she looks a teeny bit tall for it — for me the waist and the hemline are just an inch north of where they might be ideally. She doesn’t look at all bad, but when you go for bordello wallpaper dress you kind of need to look better than ‘not bad’ to make the look sing.

  • demidaemon

IN! Adorable. Today, TLo are being bitches. 😉

  • bailey debruynkops

its a pretty drab dress and I’m annoyed that she’s always wearing *something* alice + olivia. OUT

  • Jangle57

A little bit Rose Nylund?  What Golden Girls were you watching?  I think she looks cute though agree a belt would have been a good thing; love the shoes!  IN

  • butterflysunita

    Lovely.  IN!

  • saanrio

    I love it. IN!

  • Oh, god. 80’s is vintage, isn’t it?

OUT for reminding me of my age.

  • IN bitches!

  • Aly Light

Out. Super cheap looking. I wouldn’t pay more than $11.99 for that thing.

  • granddelusion

I like the dress, hate the shoes. Her popping hyperextended knees make my own hurt.

  • kikisayshi

IN – it totally suits her

  • Bozhi

In.  Love the dress and the shoes.

  • In!  I think it is lovely.  doesn’t photograph well, but still, she looks lovely.

  • Synnamin

    In! Bitches!

  • sunandmoon24

I vote in. I think she looks cute.  Not too sure about the shoes, however.

  • benjamin478

She looks good enough for an IN, but could’ve used a little something somewhere

  • TieDye64

Can’t I vote “meh” bitches? in, i suppose.

  • In.  I think it falls more on the cute side than the grandma side of floral

  • sleah_in_norcal

she looks too cute!  IN and all thumbs up.  adorable shoes.  would like some jewelry, though.

  • Sweetvegan

    In! She looks awesome!

  • plinkiedoodle

Yes, you are.  But I agree with you!

  • AWStevens

Yes, TLo, you ARE bitches. But you knew that…  As a Bitter Kitten, I must agree that a belt and hotter shoes would definitely make her outfit fashion forward.  That being said, I also don’t think it deserves the Rose Nylund stamp.

  • unbornfawn

IN, Its kinda working for me.

  • IN. I think she looks great.

  • DCSheehan

    In. It works for her.

  • In. Those shoes are fierce as fuck. They have built in spurs!

  • In! You are, in fact, bitches! She looks super cute (though I agree it needs a belt). And those shoes are kind of fun.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

Relax a little, Guys. She’s definitely an IN! And the shoes are perfect with the dress.

  • lilibetp

IN! She looks adorable.  Actually, I don’t think you guys are bitches.

  • MissAnnieRN

Out, but the shoes are SO FUCKING FABULOUS, I am tempted to give her an IN.  What?  I’ve INned a dress before by overlooking shoe choice….

Also – Katy Perry needs to guest star on her show as her sister or something.  Yeesh – sisters from another mistah?

  • I’m finding the black carpet & backdrop with this look just too much black to take!  Grrr.  Out for the shiney & for looking like a continuation of the backdrop.

  • Judy_S

IN. It might not work in another context, but if she has to stand in a black room I think it works.

  • BayTampaBay

    IN!  She looks great.

  • It’s cute. Joan Harris would wear it. IN.

  • Beardslee

I realize that I would feel better about the clothes in my closet if I called them vintage, instead of just old.

  • guestela

  • I find this cartoonish and I would have loved it in 1992, but now? OUT. Also, that pose makes my knees hurt.

  • Melissa Brogan

    OUT. Cheap, shiny, young grandma.

  • DinahR

IN  I like the dress and this is her look

  • belfebe

Belt.  It would have rocked with a black belt.  But it’s still adorable.  IN.

  • guest2visits

I’m liking it alot without the belt. But I get what you mean about the shiny. Still, it’s great with the shoes, and I think
she’s looking more like a grown-up, less like a someone playing a little girl.

  • In. Colorful, classy, flattering.

A little *oomph* needed in the accessories, to be sure, but overall, she looks bueno.

  • You ARE, in fact, bitches, but I doubt the minions would have it any other way.  IN!

  • CQAussie

IN!  Love the dress and the shoes, but not loving the pouty lips or make up.  Still though…IN!

  • BazoDee

It would look better with a belt. And ye you are bitches. Doesn’t mean it is out though, so I give it an IN

  • YayaGurl

I don’t know if this makes sense but she’s like a regular person who wants to look like Dita Von Teese but doesn’t have the money or oomph to do it.  She strikes me as very Teese-inspired.

  • cleep1000

Her character on the show wears a lot of heavy eyeliner and strong lip color, so seeing her like this…she looks a little plain. There’s  nothing wrong with this look, per se, but it’s not special in any way. I’m leaning toward OUT.

  • Sunshine16

    In – bitches!

  • Louise Bryan

I love the shoes; très fierce.  I don’t like the dress.  Somehow it looks too small on her.  Maybe it’s just too twee, I don’t know.

    Overall it’s an OUT.

  • aristida_girl

I may be too late but In anyway, bitches! I do agree about the belt though, it would have helped…

  • Gorgeous as hell. IN.

  • IN! Those shoes need to get in my closet now!

  • ccm800

INish – but I really thing she looks like Kevin McDonald from the Kids in The Hall.

  • Renaissance_Man_ATL

    IN!  Adorbs.

  • Liz
