In or Out: Kerry Washington in Stella McCartney

Posted on April 18, 2012

That’s right, kittens! We’re going to force you to look at another Stella McCartney dress. Because you love them so much.

Kerry Washington attends “Django Unchained” Photocall in Cancun in Stella McCartney.

Stella McCartney Pre-Fall 2012 Collection

Hey, at least she was smart enough not to wear the pants with it.

We kind of like this. The shape and colors are perfect for her and the print is eye-catching. We’re not loving the hem length and those tucks or reverse darts in the bodice are kind of distracting, but otherwise, it’s a pretty cute dress. She was smart to go without much in the way of jewelry. The high collar, long sleeves and focus-pulling print would all work against a showy necklace or bracelet. Hair and makeup look pretty fabulous and we’re okay (if not totally in love) with the shoes.

Et vous, petit chats? Is this enough for you to overcome your anger against Ms. McC? Opine for us.

Vote Now!

IN! I FINALLY like a Stella McCartney dress! Huzzah!

OUT! Nope. It’s hiddy.

Elizabeth Olsen’s Carrie White, Sister-Wife dress just wasn’t doing it for y’all. You voted it OUT.

I like the pants, at least what I can see of them. But not with the dress.

  • Anathema_Device

I like her hair and makeup a lot. She looks gorgeous. The dress? Hmm…I like the colors and that pattern, but I wish it was all over the dress and not just on the sleeves and on the skirt. It looks out of balance.

Kerry=In, for looking good despite the wonky dress
    Dress=Out

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=610791985 Aniela Marie Perry

      I second this ^^

    • http://twitter.com/karingolde Karin Golde

I’ll second this too, with an overall vote of OUT. The proportions of the print are wrong, and the placement of the rose in the crotch area is unfortunate. Not any closer to Stella McCartney love than I ever was.

      • http://opinionandamovie.blogspot.com/ Deitra S.

Exactly!  If that hem and print placement were about 4 inches higher, I think this could have been stellar (even with those shoes that I don’t whole-heartedly support).  But as is, it’s just off enough to nudge it into OUT territory.  Too bad, that blue, especially looks fab on Kerry.

        • Judih1

          My thoughts exactly OUT

      • Little_Olive

Oh, yes. It’s like those ancient deities where the whole world is born from between their legs.

It’s a crotch screaming for attention. Need we say more?

      • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Yes – flowers on your lady garden are almost as bad as that Felix the cat emerging from Fergie’s nethers of some while ago.

      • Chantelle James

Exactly my thoughts. The proportions of the print are off just enough to carry this look into OUT territory.

  • Annie Leung

IN: It’s a good color, interesting print but I wish it were just an inch or two shorter. I also don’t like the shoes but hair and make-up are good.

  • http://twitter.com/ohmybears48 Michelle Argento

    Personally, love this.

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Kerry looks gorge in this — it’s an IN for me!

  • PastryGoddess

    I’ll give it a MEH.

I was almost on board until I saw the close up of the reverse dart.  It’s almost like she had to put them there to prove that she actually does design..because..LOOK you can SEE IT.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1253053236 Belle Burnett

“I did go to design school, I know where to put the darts.”

    • DinaSews

Yes, leave it to Stella to ruin a perfectly good dress with something stupid!  Still an IN for me.

  • http://twitter.com/fncmullin Nora M.

The color is fantastic on her. The dress is still fug. Out.

  • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

I don’t like the length, and I also don’t like that the pattern is nowhere on the bodice/top. The two problems combine to pull the eye down and make it look like she has a groin/knee shield in front of her pretty blue dress.

But overall, she looks great; face, hair, and the dress is..pretty good. So a weak IN.

  • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

Kerry is so gorgeous, she actually makes that dress work. Still think Stella is a hack, though.

  • TAGinMO

She looks good in spite of this dress, not in any way because of it.

    For me, that means: OUT.

    • girliecue

      Perfectly said! OUT.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/ZFKRECRF5BOBWB4RXAJGI4D6KA mmc

OUT.  She is so beautiful that she is making a bad dress work.  The dress misses the mark for me because the print, although interesting, pulls my eye away from the bodice in a distracting way.  The blue, somehow, seems a bit harsh rather than fun.

  • http://twitter.com/norahs99 norahs99

    IN.  Love her!

  • http://twitter.com/OracleKath Kathrine Marlow

I would have preferred a different shoe (grey perhaps?) but other than that, IN

and I HATE Stella McC’s stuff, it’s tortured to me.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=50504968 Stephanie Hutson Erbesfield

    Um. I love this dress.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_BMEASIKJSVE6YP3DE2VLJA5CUU JulieJ

At first glance at loved the dress, but those darts are horrible.  In and out?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1326120071 Gaby Ripoll

I like it, but I’ve never been a Stella McCartney hater. So IN for me.
However, I would say this is one of the few occasions that white shoes (or off-white, depending on the pattern’s true colors) would have been perfect.

  • Sobaika Mirza

I love it and want to wear it.

Never though I’d say that about Stella McCartney!

  • NurseEllen

Surprisingly, I like this, too, especially without the matching pants.  Hate those exposed darts–really, did the dress need MORE to make it interesting?  Kerry looks cute.  A woman of color can wear the ubiquitous “nude” shoes very well, I think, and of course it helps that these are not shiny patent leather.  IN.

  • Isana Leshchinskaya

i like it so IN but i’d like to see her with like half a foot off the hem because right now its on the cusp of acid popping librarian. also, i miss her curves :/

    • Adriana_Paula

Librarians prefer X.  Our lives are trippy enough.

  • kirble

IN, despite the placement of that flower in the middle of the dress.

    Georgia O’Keefe much?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=27432316 Ally Monge

My thoughts exactly about the Georgia O’Keefe. Glad I wasn’t the only one!

  • Wellworn

Oh, hate this bigtime.  Did you ever see the Everybody Loves Raymond where Ray’s mom did a sculpture that looked like a vagina and everybody realized but her?  Well that pattern on the dress/top looks like a big vagina, the shape, the details, and the way it’s placed.  At least to me, Rorschach what you will, that is what I see.  I am so tired of these dresses that are promoting such vaginalove.  Not that I have anything against them (vaginas, I mean).  But please keep this huge flowery vaginacelebration dress out of my eyeline, thanks.

    • Wellworn

Oh, and I think Stella Mac is so overrated.  I have yet to see a dress of hers that I like.

    • http://profiles.google.com/marteani Barbara Guttman

I thought, from a distance, “well it’s a little O’keeffe, but it’s not TOO obvious.” And then I scrolled down and saw her clitoral  rose.

  • http://twitter.com/watchinginkdry Dr Skylaser

Hate (although better than bewildering pants version).  Out.

  • RebeccaKW

A slight In.  I don’t hate the dress and she looks good.  So glad she resisted the pants.

  • Christine Marie

Meh. It’s fine, but I don’t like the fact that the sleeves are 100% print. You know? It’s just too. .  . literal, or something. Stella and Kerry both needed to think a little more about this one.

  • unbornfawn

No, still don’t like a Stella McCartney dress. OUT.

  • efishfan

Ugly and pulls through the shoulders.

I normally love blue & orange together, but that shade of blue doesn’t work.

  • carolynmo

I’m going with an out.  I just don’t understand the appeal of this designer.  I don’t.

    • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

She’s got the vegan clothing niche market.

  • http://twitter.com/delysia_lafosse Delysia LaFosse

I like this dress quite a bit on her. The print is pretty fab and the colors are great. The fit leaves something to be desired with the weird inverse darts and the fact that the armpit is at the same level as the bottom of her boob, but I would argue that the hem is working (if not ideal). Room for improvement, yes, but to me this is an IN.

  • clatie

It looks like a toxic mold is growing up the blue dress.

  • http://theargiehome.blogspot.com/ Gus Casals

Dress is OK, Kerry is fine. Agreed on the hem length, it would make all the difference. In all honesty this is a MEH for me, but I’m not  revolted enough as to no give her an IN and a warning.

  • SusiePamudji

Oh nipple pointer darts, why do you exist? I don’t think anyone can lose their way to the nipples. I’m pretty sure most everyone knows where they are. I’ll still give it an IN. Gorgeous color.

  • TheLaurenJean

    Love it! In

  • Julie Parr

Why isn’t anyone mentioning her ladyflower rose?

    • Wellworn

I did, scroll down.  Maybe it’s just both of us and no one else sees the gigantic vajayjay roses on that dress.  And the darts that point to her nipples complete the picture.  It’s like a how-to map of female parts for dummies.

      • http://profiles.google.com/denise.alden Denise Alden

I see it, too:  yikes.  In fact, it was the first thing I saw.  And then disbelief that it got even uglier with those pants.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jonika-Tannous/1159464315 Jonika Tannous

out. this is gross. y’all need to stop with her dresses.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3GXKZ3BMJXBO7BJ26T3AP7QHNU Hildy910

In–except for those shoes.  Shoes, that is NOT your dress.  Free it to go find a pair of boldly colored sandals with heft.
The dress I like quite a bit, although agree about the distracto-tucks….

  • poggi

This is the best Stella McCartney dress I have seen, which isn’t a terribly high bar.  It is too long though.  In (but if it were 2 just went past the knee it would have been IN).

  • mshesterp

Ugh, OUT–it looks like she has a skin disease on her arms.  I think she looks good in spite of the dress, but that’s not enough to make it an IN for me.

Stella–still a hack in my book.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

In!  Kerry looks great in this dress – the colors totally work for her and I think it fits the Cancun vibe.  The hair and makeup are great too!  It’s an odd dress that wouldn’t work for most – like the model.  She looks terrible in this – the pattern overwhelms her.  But Kerry pulls it off, no problem.

  • http://profiles.google.com/saramichelef Sarah Michele Ford

“Hey, at least she was smart enough not to wear the pants with it.”
    Word-for-word what I was thinking.

The positioning of the paisley just makes me think that she’s got… an interesting dye job, shall we say?

  • schadenfreudelicious

oh c’mon, don’t make me give Stella McCartney an in, that’s gonna throw my karma all out of whack….oh, alright, a very small in…given under duress…..

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1253053236 Belle Burnett

So glad she skipped the pants, but I do think the pants could work on their own. I’m torn, I love Kerry and she’s really making this work FOR HER…but it’s an ugly dress.
    OUT-ish.

  • SewingSiren

LOVE this dress on her. I think she could have even pulled it off as a pant suit. IN.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_K7VOQSAYZ7H2OBX6LOJNNIBSSE Amanda

    Yeah, not bad. In.

  • MzzPants

    No.  OUT.

    A+ from the neck up.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=720742723 Sarah Winningham

She’s doing all the heavy lifting, but it’s still IN.

  • Pannyx

Even without the pants I can’t get behind a dress that looks like her lady parts exploded all over it.

  • http://twitter.com/AShinyOConnor A Shiny O’Connor

OUT. Her vagina looks like it’s on a wild acid trip.

  • Judy_S

OUT. She would look good in a burlap bag–better than in this.

  • kimmeister

I really hate the orange of the print combined with the cobalt blue.  If the print’s color had been, say, aqua, I would have given this an in, despite the silly inside-out darts.  But, as is, it’s an out.

Her hair and makeup are a huge IN though.

  • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

My, Kerry is a very pretty lady, isn’t she? And though I am not a Stella fan, I think this dress looks great on her. Definitely an IN.

  • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

Once, this was a really beautiful blue dress, but then it contracted a horrible skin disease, and it hasn’t been the same since.  Out.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

    Half-Hiddy or Half-Good
Turn my vote over to the side that needs the most votes.

Love the blue on Kerry. Shape is great on her.
Hate the pattern placement and size

Maybe just use a smaller version of the pattern as cuffs on blue sleeves and another pattern at the neckline that makes it look like a pendant?

  • crash1212

OUT. Can’t get behind the sleeves pattern matching the explosion on the dress stuff…also, those darts? Just no. I don’t get all the celeb wearing of Stella these days? Is she paying them to wear her stuff? If so, I hope they’re getting LOTS of $$$ to wear this nonsense. Everything from the neck up is total IN…Miss Kerry is one beauty.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/J2VE4NE2FY2BP4QD2XOYKJGLPI Laura

For once I agree on the hem on this one. Something about the pattern makes that not work. This is the same dress that Charlize wore only the pattern is in full color, maybe? Agree on the shoes. Meh, too bad, but doesn’t blow the outfit for me.

I kind of like it, and I actually think the pants version of this might work on Miss Zoe Saldana, but not many others.

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOVE the hair, want the haircut.

    IN. I like it.

  • http://twitter.com/connectinglines Me Again

Ugh.  I can see why you gave this the “IN OR OUT” treatment.  I’m pulled in both directions.  The print is interesting and I like it on the sleeves, but not the way it points to her uterus on the skirt.  Her hair and makeup look nice.  Overall, I’ll give her an IN… but barely.

  • Aly Light

I like it. It’s eye-catching but with a flattering silhouette,  the colors look good on her, and she’s styled quite well. IN.

  • Sara__B

Kerry looking good despite the dress = IN. Stella McCartney = OUT as usual. (Remember those Magic Eye pictures? If you stared at them, parts of them popped out? The pattern/solid combo in this dress does that to me, and I don’t like it!)

  • http://profiles.google.com/sephski Jennifer Szczublewski

These women have a font of paisley exploding from their crotches. Out.

  • Kolo_Ol

I actually like this dress, though I am not a fan of the reverse darts at all.  It’s a reluctant in

  • sterlingrose

I just wish that top rose hit at a different spot, such a focal point and right at the crotch.   It is like it is all pointing there.  I like it but…

  • lilazander

OUT! I hate the dress. But, yes, thank you, Kerry for not wearing the pants! Minus the dress, she looks great.

  • Carla_Charlton

The shoes are awful, but she looks good otherwise.  It helps the dress A LOT that she is beautiful!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_63FW2Y5BWUARL7PJGWK54TUDGE Carrieanno

So exposed darts are fashion forward?  Huh.  In my day we called it “oops, dress inside out.”  And speaking of. . .   Out.
Kerry keeps getting more gorgeous though.

  • TheOriginalLulu

I like it. I find that hem length highly objectionable, but that seems to be the thing now. Fingers crossed that it’s short-lived.
She’s so pretty. I love the hair and make-up.

  • Carina Green

She’s got a flower on her lady-flower. Out.

  • Catiline

IN.  Mostly thanks to Miss Washington.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_64HSRZWCSJ5RBFGCWDLFQOICYM G

I still dislike just about everything by Stella McCartney.  This dress is fugly.  OUT.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1396777506 Christin Pardy-Nosenchuk

I keep waiting for Stella to design something I like.  Has not happened yet.

  • Renee Bender

Kerry made this dress kind of work.  For that she gets an IN.

  • PeggyOC

I’m with Anathema Device.  I hate to vote her an out, because she’s trying her hardest.  It just a) seems like a lot of dress for sunny Cancun and b) the sleeves are hideous.  The paisley on the skirt is cute, but adding it to the sleeves in that way just kills it.

Out, I guess, but the out goes to Stella, not Kerry.

  • http://www.djplaw.com/ Tadiana

I’m convinced that if we go to hell, they take away all of our clothes and give us a wardrobe consisting solely of Stella McCartney designs.

Yeah, this outfit.  A lesser shade of evil.  Minor in, I guess. *said very grudgingly*

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

The long crotch jumpsuits are there for sure!!!

      • kimmeister

And all of us long-waisted gals will get jumpsuits that are too short in the crotch, so we’ll have the double whammy of an eternal wedgie AND straps/sleeves that dig into our shoulders.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6PUVFQ7YCZZFZRIER6BEJ4HVYE Amye

You people are such petty bitches.

This is a beautiful dress.  Yes, it could be a tad shorter, but to count it out because of that?

  • EEKstl

If anyone can save this dress it’s the lovely Ms. Washington, due to great hair, makeup and accessories.  That said, I like this dress (sans crazypants) on principle, yet there is something really bothering me about the placement of the pattern on the skirt.  It’s like it’s very deliberately covering her ladyparts even tho clearly the top of the design begins higher.  I can’t quite explain why it’s not working for me but – it’s not working.  But I’m still giving her an IN for the reasons cited above.

  • http://deeplyproblematic.blogspot.com/ RMJ12345

Love it, and I’m starting to like that length. Cute watch too. IN.

  • SignLadyB

This is definitely an in for me. Obviously the dress is not for just anybody but is very fitting on Kerry Washington. Great colors, great pattern and great styling. And I hope no one every opts for the pants–way overboard!

  • VioletFem

IN. She’s pulling it off, which is a tough feat for this dress.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=589620842 Carolyn Breedlove Hawley

Hate the print right at the crotch. Out

  • Candigirl1968

    Keep trying Stella.  Nope.

  • holdmewhileimnaked

i actually like it better w/ the pants.
but i would, i grew up in the late 60s & my parents were [original sense of word] hipsters too. i can see exactly where she got the idea.

otoh, what is it w/ SMcC? to me she does a lot of almosts. even w/ the incessant crotch-pointer, this is almost really good. the color is just slightly off–but it’s off enough for the whole effect to be jarring, not harmonious. it’s almost like yr expecting to hear revolution but you wind up listening to revolution no. 9….. number nine….. number nine….. number nine….. if you will.

still, more on the plus side here than not & i want so badly to like SMcC’s work. so put me in the yes column, but barely.

& apologies for the beatles joke. i only got a few hours sleep.

  • bailey debruynkops

    NOT ATTRACTIVE

  • Tatiana Luján

In, but I hate the hem lenght

  • http://twitter.com/Kerry_McC Kerry McCombs

I say IN, but I don’t dig those shoes.

  • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

I almost like it. But the pattern placement on the sleeve is bugging me, big-time. So awkward.
Kerry, you are doing all the work here, but I still have to say “OUT.”

  • Vaniljekjeks

Out!  Hiddy! I literally had a facial twitch at the sight of this.  Burn it!

  • Pants_are_a_must

    I don’t like you anymore.

  • cmb92191

Well the color is pretty.   The pattern well, there is a lot of symbolism going on there.   She was wise not to wear the pants.  That inside out stuff is pretty poor.   Out just for Kerry’s “flower”.

  • jw_ny

    IN

Like the blue, like the fit, cut, and shape of the dress, like her hair/makeup.  Like that she did not over-accessorize.  Not crazy about the print nor the placements of it, but like that it is interesting and colorful.  It’s a bold choice…not for everyone.  She can pull it off.

    Dislike her shoe color.

    • MilaXX

I think the print on the skirt needs to be either higher or lower, I don’t mind it so much on the sleeves.

      • jw_ny

I agree.  I’m thinking higher, so that the white rose is away from her cooch.  Lower, the design would be pointing to her lady parts…or worse, look like she had an accident down there.  O_o

  • BayTampaBay

OUT!  The dress is horrid in a costume way.

  • http://twitter.com/TwitchVintage Twitch Vintage

out. her lady business is bursting into paisley.

  • guest2visits

I do like this dress; alot. Looks so much better on Kerry than the model. Like the shoes too. The pants should be buried.

  • janetjb

She looks so very pretty in the close up photo. I like the idea of that dress on her, but it makes her look bottom heavy. Shorter might be better for her.

    OUT

  • Jessica O’Connell

I like this one and so glad she didn’t wear the pants! IN.

  • AlexisPayne

Aside from the hem length I love this look. IN.

  • MilaXX

IN! The dress could maybe stand a skinny belt, but I don’t hate this one as much as I do most of Stella’s stuff. I also don’t mind the shoes with this look. Kerry rarely has a hair or makeup fail, she looks good here. The show is growing on me, but I’m sure Shonda will piss me off soon.

  • BeeBeauNYC

OUT – she had to put a blooming rose right over the nether regions? Seriously?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Glad I’m not the only one who saw that.

  • nancymae

OUT! It’s like a new age fire crotch frock!!

  • http://twitter.com/riosramblings Michael Rios

Overdesigned with a capital O for OUT.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1183772509 Jen Hughes

I like it and I like it better without the pants. I don’t think I could pull it off, but I think she is doing so.

  • Kayceed

I really want to like it – really, I do. But I don’t. I think it is the colors and the odd placement of the print. Out.

  • Terence Ng

I don’t mind the color or style or the print on the front, but what the hell is up with the prints on the arms? They couldn’t have been more artfully applied so as to NOT make it look like she’s wearing a skin-tight patterned bodysuit under a sleeveless dress? OUT, but it’s only Kerry’s fault because she wore it. Stella needs to take the blame for this one.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/M2D277JWFM4BUI7PWTTGYM67XI Mathilde

I’m  not against Stella McCartney on principle, but this is kind of… ugly. The blue is striking and I like the idea of long sleeves, but the print is weirdly placed and the reverse is really really distracting. OOOUUUUT !

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

OUT. That looks like when my grandmother used to cut out floral patterns from fabric and tacky glue them on to sweat shirts.  The blue is too bright against the “pattern”.  And why not gray shoes instead of nude?  But I must say Ms. Kerry is werqing it from the neck up.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HIZ7S2FRLC52NXARXQ4ERHNOGE Liz

“Hey, at least she was smart enough not to wear the pants with it.” -Amen

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HIZ7S2FRLC52NXARXQ4ERHNOGE Liz

And at least she’s not wearing OPEN TOES CLOGS

  • lifetime_student

I tried, I really tried, but even though I think Kerry is gorgeous, I just cannot like this dress. The print on the sleeves OR the print on the dress OR the inverted darts (well maybe not the darts), but not all of them. Out.

  • VeryClaire

Maybe without the print sleeves. Maybe.

  • CQAussie

There is a rose coming out of her coochie.  No.  OUT.

  • alyce1213

Out!  The print is hideous, placed wrong, and without it, it’s just a nice blue sheath. I can’t stand blue and orange together.

  • Cathy S

I like the blue and I like the pattern on the sleeves but it’s too much on the skirt. I give it an out, but it’s the best Stella I’ve seen in a while.

  • http://www.celestiae.net Isy

Ugh, noooo! This is so fug. Maybe if you got rid of the sleeves and shortened the hem to just above that last repeat of the print, it could work. Kerry looks great and almost works it but no way. Out.

And the pants with it… just… what? Why?

  • TSkot

    Gorgeous woman.  Gorgeous dress.  IN

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=27432316 Ally Monge

Cool pattern  but it is HORRIBLY placed. Sorry SMcC, fail again. Also is Kerry wearing weird lip liner, or just me? OUT

  • SheWhoMustBeObeyed

Good god, OUT. This reminds me of something my grandma wore in 1972.

  • butterflysunita

OUT.  I am going to go against the grain and say I actually like it better with the pants, since it looks like an Indian salwaar kameez. (On the other hand, if you want a salwaar kameez, you could get one from an Indian importer for one tenth of the price.)  I also feel the pants sort of balance the pattern out.  On Kerry, unfortunately, the pattern highlights her crotch in an unsettling way.

  • sweetlilvoice

Good color combination, the blue and orange, but a bit long. In as it’s an improvement over most of Stella’s dresses.

  • http://twitter.com/lenabena_ Elena

    In! Luhv.

  • formerlyAnon

In. (There, Ms. McCartney, you can’t accuse me of being unfair.)

But I fear that with the return of pattern, we’re going to get the mix of dark gold/mustard, burnt orange, various muddy browns, brownish-plums, and ugly blues (or dark olive), accented with black, that once were so fashionable.  I hate those palettes with a passion. This dress has a nice clean orange in it, as well as the bright blue, so maybe I’m just anticipating that which will not come. I hope.

  • 3boysful

I think the way there’s a blue “cap sleeve” at the shoulder, before the print starts, looks a bit weird, like the dress doesn’t fit well.  But she looks good, altho I hate the shoes.  She needed an orange strappy heel.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ENBX3563Q4ZNCVRGSJVFIB7OAA Thom

6 inches less on the hemline would’ve been much better: the print continues for too long, making the dress seem awfully bottom-heavy. Otherwise, the colors are great on her, but the shoes could’ve been better.
    OUT.

  • http://twitter.com/jennsaysmeow Fifi LaRoux

As far as Stella McC dresses go this isn’t hideous, but tht could just be because it’s on Kerry. So I’m going to give it an IN because she isn’t making me hate the dress.

  • jjfg

“Hey, at least she was smart enough not to wear the pants with it.” Was my first thought, exactly.  I can’t say I like the dress even without the pants, but she looks cute as hell in spite of it so I’m going IN.

    • Susan683

I had the exact same thought when I saw the model pic.  IN just for (Kerry or her stylist) having the good sense to lose the pants.

  • Lina_bee

Good or bad, she’s working the hell out of that dress. She looks far better in it than the model and the colors are awesome with her skin tone. I’d like it better with the pattern only on the sleeves and maybe on the upper back, in smaller scale. And a knee-length hem. So, IN for KW and OUT for Stella.

  • j_anson

A lot of the In/Outs lately have been “Eeeeeehhh… in” for me lately (like this one). Maybe I need to be bitchier?

  • ErmengardeGreen

Like it! Though the fit in the armholes is weird, and I hate the shoes.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Julie-Chase/731391326 Julie Chase

The dress I’m not a fan of, but she pulls it off. In.

  • http://twitter.com/somuchhotter Ethan Barclay-Ennew

Out, but I love the colour and I am glad that her vajayjay is in bloom, it being spring and all

  • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com/ Rebecca

    Hideous.

    OUT.  Frankenstella.

  • JanieS

Exploding ladyparts are never a good look. NEVER.

  • altalinda

Nope.  I can’t put my finger on why I don’t like it — something to do with the rising print in the front — but I don’t.  Out.  Nice blue, though.

  • http://korilian.livejournal.com/ korilian

In. That color is wonderful on her.

  • http://korilian.livejournal.com/ korilian

In. That color is wonderful on her.

  • Eva_baby

    IN.  She looks great.

i was going to give it an OUT until the last picture.  In the first picture, the background detracts from really seeing the dress.  But the last picture brought it in focus.

  • Eva_baby

    IN.  She looks great.

i was going to give it an OUT until the last picture.  In the first picture, the background detracts from really seeing the dress.  But the last picture brought it in focus.

  • KathKo

    Nope, still doesn’t work.
    Stella, do something else.
    Please.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

I’m not crazy about the dress, but she looks pretty good. IN.

  • http://needtherapy.tumblr.com/ skadi1

I wish the dress was a bit shorter on her (do they not have tailors in Mexico?), but she looks great. That could just be a function of her hotness, but it’s working. In.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=746098172 Leigh Anne Statton

A big fat IN! for Kerry - because she didn’t wear the awful pants.  I literally cringed when I looked at the model shot with them.

  • Stefanos Mantyla

It is a really interesting look with the pants, even if you cannot wear them together in real life.

On her, I will give it an IN because I like it overall.

  • marciekr

OUT.  The dress is hideous.  It’s too bad because the rest of her looks gorgeous.

  • Lisa Kramp

She’s pretty, and I rarely hate a bright blue dress but…it doesn’t do a thing for her. Or me

  • ballerinawithagun

Out. Reverse darts only work as a really well done deconstructed concept. This is definitely not Stella’s forte.

  • lovelyivy

I went to school with her so it is impossible to be objective. IN IN IN! One of the nicest people I’ve ever known- and her Mom is aces too.

P.S. The clothes look good too, even though the dress looks very ‘my ladyparts exploded’.

  • http://twitter.com/aStudiobytheSea a Studio by the Sea

That is just so ugly, the designs so badly placed, ack, ack, …. I’m physically turning into Bill the Cat just trying to find the words to describe why it’s so awful.

  • joe_tey83

Hideous color combination. Hideous print. Hideous placement of print. Hideous proportion. Hideous dress.

  • sleepycat

    OUT! ugly dress

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/DBSIHWVY4ECXGNXAXFXJMSCNIE Katrin

IN, but could have used a belt!

  • Sophie Collier

    Nope, still hideous.  OUT

  • http://journostyle.blogspot.com Alana

I want to like this, but the dress is just too ugly. Even Kerry Washington can’t save it.

  • girliecue

The pattern screams “Harley Davidson does women’s wear”. Stella McCartney must be stopped!

  • http://twitter.com/Merneith Merneith

I tried. There’s just something about the shape of this dress that I can’t take. When I got to the shoes, it was over. OUT.

  • marilyn

Out.  Stella McCartney is living proof that you can be a success if your father is rich enough.  If she did not have such a famous and rich dad, she would not be where she is.  The clothes prove it.

She should not have centered the design in the crotch area.  The colors contrast with one another (bright blue/brown) but there is no finesse in the use of the colors.  The design (fitted dress that covers up with pants) may be novel to her, but that is standard dress in India.  I bet that any seamstress or home sewer in India could make this dress, and there are a LOT of people in India.  Where is the creativity on her part (other than the design centered in the crotch area)?

    • Joyce VG

I absolutely agree marilyn!  OUT for me.  Please Stop the Madness.

    • holdmewhileimnaked

i think it’s less that her father is rich & famous but more that her father is those things &, along w/ her mother, also very well liked & well respected. & she seems decently serious & likable herself. &, i have to say, i actually was very fond of her earlier stuff. what she did before & during the chloë era was much better. maybe she’s just in a slump.

cos, you know, there are plenty of kids of the rich & famous out there & their careers, when they have them, dont last very long. i’m too busy & too tired to list even the ones who come to the top of my head–&, in truth, far far less interested in celebrity & its artefacts than pretty much everybody–but, put that way even more, if i can list them, everybody can. & SMcC is still around. & she doesnt show any signs of departing anytime soon. & she’s more than a little bit too old to only be doing what she’s doing only cos of her father’s influence. i dunno, she’s close to forty isnt she? maybe more?

so lets see if she comes back around again. her father [along, of course, w/ all of his previous associates] certainly went through a mess of slumps. & once in awhile there was a rebound for each of them. maybe i have too much faith & maybe i want too much to see her do well but, you know, lets see what happens.

i wouldnt write her off just yet.

  • lrhoff

I like this a lot — and the version with the pants works for me, too!

  • CharCrop

    Nah…looks like a home-made project!…”loving hands at home”!

  • Louise Bryan

I do like this dress, and I’m THRILLED she left off the pants (*gag*).  IN

  • nannypoo

It’s too long and the weight of the print from the crotch on down makes her look like she has huge hips.

  • prettybigkitty

Nope.  Not good enough Stella.  Back to the drawing board for you.  She’s fast approaching Marchesa bad taste in my mind.

  • demidaemon

Well, I’m glad she didn’t wear the pants. Kudos on that. However, I think the print is overwhelming and kind of misplaced in the dress. Just the sleeves or the skirt but not both. So, OUT for me, despite my newfound love for Kerry and Scandal.

  • http://www.facebook.com/sara.mcdarby Sara McDarby

I join the multitudes who are not generally Stella McCartney fans but I’ve got to say this one’s an in!  I love the sleeves and the print on the skirt.  Really pretty!

  • http://www.facebook.com/shoeblogger Manolo Shoeblogger

Move the hem up three inches, and it is in with the dress on the Kerry Washington, but definitely out with the leggings on the model.

  • http://wipgirl.wordpress.com/ Kristel

Those darts are terrible, but she looks very nice.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_57OVHCVQIOC3VM47ORVDF2WWLI Kyle

    those shoes!

    ugh.
the print looks like its creeping up on her. ew. OUT.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Stella – OUT. I am not impressed with the whole salwar kameez thing she has going on.   Still, Kerry Washington looks lovely because she IS lovely.  Her hair and makeup work.  And the blue which I would have wondered about, looks fabulous on her skin. So she’s in, but Stella, as always OUT.  Stella needs to be shot for putting a cheesy looking rose over the crotch of the dress.  How obvious can you get?  She’s a hack.

  • another_laura

It’s not as much of an ‘out’ for me as most Stella McC stuff, and without that particular print I might even have gone for it.  However, that print is not good at all.

Out.  But really, Stella, keep on trying, because you care whether I like your dresses, I know you do!

  • elzatelzabelz

Out- the pattern on the front looks like a crotch flower and that, is unforgivable.

  • http://twitter.com/LianaBrooks Liana Brooks

OUT – I just can’t find anything to like here.

  • janedonuts

Eh. She looks OK here, but normally she looks fantastic, so it’s still a disappointment.

What’s the French word for “pedantic?”

      • Derek_anny

pedant.  with an acute accent on the e according to babelfish. :b

  • ziarah

The print on the bottom half of the dress looks like curtains rising on her ladyparts with a flower coming out.

  • DCSheehan

In. The amount of pattern, or the shape, is kinda off. I want to say it looks vagina-ish but I wouldn’t want to be accused of bring anti-vaginas.

  • PaulaBerman

Kind of nauseating, like everything from Paul’s daughter.

  • ccm800

SO out – The least heinous fault here is the cut of that sleeve and how it meets the blue bodice…COME ON!

  • butter nut

oh good christ no.  OUT!  i get the dress.  i really do.  on the right girl, this could be tres chic.  but not on miss kerry.  there are a thousand beautiful dresses that kerry could werq the shit out of.  whoever handed her this should be smacked.

(has Kerry had her lips plumped?  Something looks different.)

    • LocMama

Nope.  Those are her lovely natural lips…if you are referring to the ones on her face & not the rose cooch.

  • bluefish

Not a SMc fan generally but I like this look — especially on the model with the pants.  Definitely with the pants.  So an IN, I guess, for the full outfit as intended — Looks cute on Kerry.

    In.

  • Damien W

No way. The layout of the Chinese-New-Year-at-Prince’s-Pad print makes her look like a shark-chewed body on the beach in the opening scenes of a Bollywood remake of Jaws. The crew neck exists because it came with pants — without the pants it’s a long, loud nightshirt. The hair is vintage “Family”-era Kristy McNichol. The only thing that would have made this worse is a boring pair of beige shoes — oops!

    SOOOOOOOOOOO OUT.

I like the pants, the outfit as designed would suit a Tilda to a T and I would approve.  Without the pants, she looks like a stewardess for Air India.

  • juliamargaret

Sorry, I really dislike reverse darts. And the fit of the sleeves near the armpit bothers me. I don’t hate Stella McCartney as much as some of the other PUF’s but I don’t like this dress.

  • newtonGOTbeaned

I like the dress, minus the weird pleats. I just wish she had worn different shoes. Funner shoes.

  • Lola67

In! Love the color, love the covered up yet sexy look.
