In or Out: Freida Pinto in Gucci

Posted on April 30, 2012

Let’s take a refreshing turn toward the casual after all of those gowns today, dolls.

Freida Pinto attends the premiere of “Trishna” during the Tribeca Film Festival in NYC in a Gucci suit paired with a Fendi baguette.

Gucci Pre-Fall 2012 Collection/Model: Julia Frauche

Do we like this? On her? Because we like it on the model, but man is that pant length tough to pull off, especially when the pants are pleated. The color’s great on her and it’s all cute and sassy in a NYC kinda way, but we just can’t get past those pants.

Also the gold and black clutch seems like overkill, as does the butterfly. Opinions! It’s why you love us.

Vote Now!

IN! Sassy, bold and chic!

Voting on Ginnifer Goodwin’s toilet bowl brush of a dress is still wide open, darlings. Opinions are why we love you too.

IN  -I think she pulls it off. Barely but she looks fresh and the color is amazing on her.

      • Beardslee

I agree.  Those pants are nobody’s friend but she looks great.  I like the butterfly pin a lot and think the purse looks oversized and unneccesary.

    • blogless

Ooh OUT on so many levels. Love the color though…

    • howdoilook

      Totes IN.

    • Sarah Winningham

      Executive Realness! In!

    • Deac82

      In!  Love it on her.

    • Brett Hulst

The smile definitely pulls it together — IN!

    • Kathy Marlow

IN – The whole is more than the sum of it’s parts.

      • EveEve

Agree.  IN.  Clutch is a scootch too large in proportion, but that’s a nit-pick in an overall flawless ensemble.

    • IraKi

    • Clifford Chiu

      makeup is FLAWLESS!

    • marlie

Love it! If anyone can pull off pleats, it’s her (or another size 2 starlet).

    • lizajane1776

IN! Love the color on her and Look! It’s a Steampunk Butterfly!

    • MilaXX

      Love it! IN

    • TSkot

She looks adorable, head to toe.  Way IN!

    • Mary Catherine Roberts

    • Ann M. Erickson

      I love butterflies. IN

    • Sandisan

IN.  Just barely.  The pants aren’t quite right, but they’re not bad enough for me to give her an out.

    • NC_Meg

IN! I could have done without the butterfly but I love everything else. She’s so damn pretty.

    • DinaSews

Tentative IN.  Nice change of pace from what we usually see.  I think the cuffs on the model with the flats set a different tone which is why it looks better on her.

    • Renaissance_Man_ATL

IN! Fits her perfectly.  Not a huge fan of the purse, but, whatevs.

    • Rand Ortega

IN. Unique boy clothes meets girl sexy . Hair, makeup– delish! Accessories don’t overshadow but are right for the outfit.

    • butterflysunita

IN.  I’m not wild about the outfit, but she looks gorgeous.  The color is beautiful on her.  Great smile too.

    • Vaniljekjeks

In.  The color does wonders for her.  She looks gorgeous.

    • kikisayshi

I am not a fan of pantsuits at all, but I like this one on her. She pulls it off, even the length. IN!

    • RebeccaKW

Going with In. Yes, the pants could be better (maybe more fitted, instead of loose at the hips tapering to ankles) but she looks chic.  Although I hate the butterfly, and I wish she had on different shoes.

    • Gara St. James

In. She looks adorable, even if the pants don’t fit impeccably. Her best accessory is that gorgeous smile!

    • jenawesome

Completely in.  I think that pant length works better with flats.  Or maybe a leopard print heel.  And I can’t really deal with butterfly accessories.  But still, I love the look.

      • foodycatAlicia

Totally agreed on all counts. And not just because I am wearing that length pants today with flats while longing for leopard print heels!

    • benjamin478

IN! Don’t like the butterfly, but the pants don’t even bother me that much.

    • StrandedFashionista

IN. I think she looks so cute.

    • altalinda

    • mrssage

IN. I actually like it better on her than the model. I would have switched out the clutch but she still looks great. I like the butterfly.

    • Kiltdntiltd

In. I think she’s pulling this off. On her, it looks fresh, and light, and not overly styled.

    • PeaceBang

IN! Because it’s sassy and the color is great and I’m putting my hand over one eye and totally ignoring that hideous butterfly brooch that she should give to her abuela.

    • LongTall_Sally

      Definitely IN!

    • Deborah Lipp

She’s gorgeous but no. No. Just no.

    • mrspotts66

    • Dr Skylaser

She looks fantastic and adorable (although the pants are certainly awkward, and the clutch/brooch overmatching is certainly. . . overmatched).  With a black clutch, and .5-1″ more on the hem, it’d’ve been a WERQ for me.  IN, anyway.

    • Judy_J

Those pants aren’t for everyone, but she’s doing a damn fine job of wearing them.  IN.

    • Anathema_Device

In! I already pinned this one on Pinterest earlier today. Love the look, head to toe. Only wish she had cuffed the pants, as on the model.

    • Samantha Irene

IN! Love it – want to wear it.

    • SpcilK

IN – This is a good look for her, could have done without the butterfly.

    • NurseEllen

This is surely an IN.  With that smile, I never noticed the pleats.  I do agree that the butterfly pin is unnecessary, but I like the bag.

    • fungstyle

100% IN. I want that suit for my next big presentation.

    • BrooklynBomber

Pleated, tapered pants: 1980s all over again. Ugh! But she’s handling it. Bonus points for ditching the turtleneck.

    • sunandmoon24

      in.  :)

    • Barbora

IN – I really like this

    • VicksieDo

IN, that is some chic looking outfit~!  And she is soooo beautiful.

    • Elena

      She looks great, IN!

    • TLoFanBoy

OUT. One look at that butterfly pin, and all I could think was, “larger version should be attached next to front door of old lady’s house in Kansas.”

    • Gabriella Soza

      Fab. In.

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

In. I think she looks great and I love the butterfly, though I think the pants would look better with shoes in the same color family.

    • Warren221

Much misconstruction and bitterness are spared to
him who thinks naturally upon what he owes to others rather than what he
      ought to expect from them.

    • fireontiger

      In. She looks awesome.

    • introspective

Her face is stunning and her figure is suited to pull off lots that we mere mortals cant. that said, those pants (pleated and capri length?? jesus gucci, what were you thinking??) make this a clunker of a suit. yet its still not as offensive as other dreckitude we’ve seen on red carpets lately.

so in with a small i.

    • EliseC

      Totally IN

    • Gus Casals

Sassy and chic, and that smile is the best accessory EVER. IN

    • Sara Munoz

Am I the only one who looks at her and sees Prince??

    • jw_ny

Love the color on her and she looks very pretty.  I do like the pin…like pins in general and wish they were worn more often.

I dislike a lot of this look though…shirt collar, clutch and, especially, the pleats on the pants.

      He posing is awful.

    • allj

Out. I love the idea, but it falls apart at the waist.

    • Lochery

In. Love it, and it helps that she’s her.

    • Magdalena Monzerrat Ontiveros

      love it

    • belfebe

      IN- She looks flawless.

    • Brian @ PWYJudges

Love it! Totally pulling it off. IN!

    • kittenwithaquip

The bag seems wrong. It looks bulkier than a clutch, more like a shoulder bag with the strap off and/or crammed in the purse. Actually, the whole look seems slightly off to me, but maybe I’m just not a fan of raspberry pink suits. I’m definitely not a fan of whatever is going on with her hair. An updo is fine, but her bangs seem heavy with product and mashed against her forehead.

Eh, out. Everything seems a little wrong, a little uncomfortable. She’s a beautiful girl; she can do better than this.

    • EditKitten

It’s the hair. The outfit is in, but the hair takes it back out to executive territory. I really wish she’d done something less Palin with it.

    • librarygrrl64

So IN it’s a WERQ for me!

    • Anne Meek White

She’s as cute as a button. IN.

    • random_poster

    • Amy Ellinger

IN, but I’d love to see it on Rashida Jones, with the same hairstyle.

    • nannypoo

She can only ever be IN for me. She is beautiful. I think the problem is the way she’s standing.

    • Stella Zawistowski

Me likey. Even the pant length. IN.

    • crash1212

IN. She totally pulls this off. I like it better on her than the model. Ms. Pinto’s blouse choice is superior and I like her shoes better, plus, she de-cuffed the pants – always a great move. I love everything – except that bug on her lapel

    • ChelseaNH

Close, but out.  The pants are wrong, and it overall feels like the suit doesn’t fit (even where it does).  Plus, the shape of her hair is bugging me.

    • lesmaha

I think if she were standing better in the first pic, it might be an IN–but I’m on the fence on this one. The pleats are definitely a problem.  I think I’ll vote OUT. It’s Monday.

    • Pannyx

I adore this look. So very in.

    • Sara Parker

IN! And I like that she went with super-femme-y accessories for a menswear look.

    • heartbot

      In. She looks adorable.

    • Jessica | Surely Sonsy

      LOVE this. IN IN IN!

    • NJPaganelli

Oh my goodness love everything about this! The accessories go over the top in the most tasteful way. IN!

    • Jessica O’Connell

I love it – I think she looks great and give her a giant IN.

    • Angel Ratliff

    • Aniela Marie Perry

IN. I actually like it better on her and I like that butterfly, it’s interesting.

    • Pennymac

Not loving the shoe choice with this pant length, (maybe oxfords with a heel?) But everything else is so sassy, I say IN.

    • Genesis

In! I love it on her.

    • Dan_In_NYC

IN.  Slightly business lady hair, but I still like the whole thing.  Great color for her.

    • Cassie

IN, but just barely. I think she pulls this off (partially because of how radiant she looks from the neck up) but then again, I have a total girlcrush on her and have trouble being objective. She’s just SO PRETTY. Also, love a lady in a bright suit.

    • Alexandria Jackson

IN. I like this look and wish I was tall enough to pull it off.

    • Valeria Josy Rivera

IN! Even thou I’ve always hated that pant length.

    • Laura

      IN. Love it all.

    • Lina_bee

Out? Maybe? I guess? I love everything except the pants, which, what the HELL, Gucci??? They’re so distractingly bad that I can’t appreciate how otherwise awesome this gorgeous woman looks.

    • Kimberly S-W

    • Pants_are_a_must

IN – but the shoes are the reason you don’t like the pant length, in my opinion. She should’ve gone for a lower, sleeker heel.

    • Julie Chase

In. I love the color and the clutch with it.

    • Aaminah Khan

IN – love the colour, and the hair and makeup are lovely. I like the butterfly! I wish I could see it with the jacket closed, though.

    • Felicitas Strautman

      IN!! love this look.

    • petalfrog

      Love. In

    • Maya

    • JasmineAM

      LOVE LOVE LOVE the color.

    • Louise Bryan

      *scratching head*

Pretty color.  Butterfly is nice.  I have no use for clutches, as I prefer the availability of hands, and, anyway, that one’s too big and gaudy.  Puffy hip area because of pleats is not so great.

      Overall, IN, I guess.

    • Kati Brown

IN – it’s a fabulous color on her.

    • AlexisPayne

Seems like an improvement for her and I like the boldness, IN

    • alyce1213

IN, even though I’d prefer the pants w/o pleats (she’s thin enough to pull off pleats).  And maybe a lower heel shoe.
But still IN.  Very chic, great color.

    • Hetha Innis

IN! She’s rocking it from top to bottom!

    • Elena

      In! Cute! Fresh! Want!

    • girliecue

It’s Frieda Pinto so it’s not like she doesn’t look great, but I dunno – there’s something off here. Love the color, like the clothes, hair and makeup are nice… maybe it’s the shoes? Can’t put my finger on it, but she’s beautiful, so In I guess.

    • sarahofalessergod

      IN!  Love that color.

    • Rrroza

IN. Don’t usually like pants like this but the overall look is FINE. Like Kathy Marlow says below: whole > sum of parts.

    • Sarah Veenstra

this ensemble just makes me….cranky. and I’ve handed out too many In’s lately, so….no. Freida Pinto, you are gorgeous, but today, Out.

    • demidaemon

OUT. I’m sorry, but the fit on those pants is terrible. She looks like she may have forgotten to tuck.

    • WordyDoodles

I think she did the right thing to change the hem from a cuff to a cigarette pant; she achieves a sleeker line, and I think it works on a person who’s not model-tall.

    • Aly Light

OUT, mostly for the butterfly pin. I think it looks like office wear, in a bad way.

    • Gener1c

      I love it.  IN.
[eta except for the damn butterfly] And I passed the Bar!!!

      • Lisa

        YAAAY!!  Congratulations!!!

    • MandyJane

In, because her hair and face look amazing. Not that crazy about the pants, either, but in anyway!

    • CQAussie

I can’t even believe I’m saying this about an outfit with pleated pants but I like it!  I even like the clutch and butterfly, not too overdone for me.  That is until we get to the shoes.  HORRIBLE. But not quite so horrible as managing to ruin the entire look.  So I’ll rate this an IN but only because Freida is selling the heck out of it =)

    • RMJ12345

In, it’s different and bright and risk taking and she looks like she loves it.

    • Tiger Gray

I love it. Don’t think it looks that different on her than it does on the model, actually. My only criticism is that it reads a bit fancy day at the realty office to me. Still, I think this is an IN.

    • Eovaai

      OUT. Not flattering at all.

    • Liana Brooks

    • Jessica Pippin

I love it all. Great color on her. IN.

    • Lisa

Opinions ARE why I love you, among the many reasons.  But this is one of those times I can’t give an IN or an OUT.  While it’s bright and super cute, and looks great on her, this looks like anything I could see at Macy’s.  This is “Edgy Job Interview” and not much more for me.

    • Judy_S

In. Great color. She looks cute and comfortable, too. Not sure about the clutch but the pin is OK by me. It IS kind of weird to go from her to the model, but if you are not 8 feet tall you still have to wear clothes.

    • Michael Telles

Even though there are plenty of elements in this outfit that shouldn’t be there, I’m willing to forgive it. Unfortunately, the blouse is wrecking everything. OUT!

    • Michael Telles

Even though there are plenty of elements in this outfit that shouldn’t be there, I’m willing to forgive it. Unfortunately, the blouse is wrecking everything. OUT!

    • carolynmo

      I can’t help myself: IN!

    • carolynmo

      I can’t help myself: IN!

    • skadi1

I don’t like her bangs, but I think she looks cute. IN.

    • marilyn

Out.  The pant leg is too short.  The v-neck on the black blouse is more flattering for her than the blouse on the runway model.  However, the v-neck makes the upper bodice kind of busy.  It was nice she took a risk, but the overall effect is not attractive.  Her hair is too casual.  It looks like she literally grabbbed a ponytail and pinned it to her head.  Very 1990’s.

    • lolaleen

IN – I think she looks great!

    • Lisa Weaver

IN – she looks adorable! so fresh! so charming!

    • Alison Sigman

Out. It’s not the pants for me, but the jacket. So unflattering.

    • Dorothy Damage

Chic, in! Love the colour! And that blush is lovely. Not sure about the hair, though.

    • John Watson

i think she looks fabulous, definite in.

    • Kel of the Pop Tarts

      In. She looks fierce.

    • LilyPad

Love this look on her head to toe.

    • Stefanos Mantyla

Can I vote the model IN and Freida OUT? I love it on the model, but Freida made too many mistakes, including the hair.

    • butter nut

      IN i love it!

    • Tom Markiewicz

IN. it’s a gorgeous overall look.

    • unbornfawn

OUT. Those pants bag at the crotch. With a short pant like that flats seems to work better, those shoes don’t help the proportions any. The butterfly is too much especially with the cut of the blouse. The purse is overkill. Colors are great. I like her make-up.

    • treat yo self

    • Sara__B

Out for pleats, hair, and the way the shirt neckline works underneath a jacket. I do like that color on her. She’s such a gorgeous lady!

    • janedonuts

Looks like she popped into Banana Republic on the way home from work last night to pick up this number. Very, very OUT.

    • Ajuna Ariel Fenty

How can you not love? she is serving some major sexy tomboy realness. This is a serious WERQQQQQ

    • harleydear

      In. Super chic.

    • SapphoPoet

Don’t like the pants. Love the clutch and butterfly (although a dragonfly would be better). I think the color and her happy smile puts it at an IN.

    • Kacper Nedza

I think she looks perfect from head to toe. IN.

    • Haley Buchanan

IN – It’s so cool and different and it suits her really well.  Coulda done without the butterfly though!

    • Ally Monge

IN I love it! I want it! I need it! (the butterfly is a bit much, but I’ll give it to her)

    • elemspbee

hmm. wow. this is a tough one. Def love it on the model. but somewhere the translation, the chic of it got diminished. partly the open button shirt and unbuttoned jacket.Clean lines were ruined. And that bulky clutch.
Love the suit, the color is awesome on her.
      but OUT.

    • understateddiva

bad fitting pants = out.  Love her makeup, though (though not sure on the pink lipstick?).

    • lucasuk82

In – it’s not the most flattering silhouette for her, but she’s slim enough to pull it off. It also hits the points I like in a put together outfit – good color grounded with a neutral, interesting accessories, well-deployed bit of pattern.  It also helps that she looks like she feels pretty!

    • SkipperJane

In, mainly because as a tall girl, this is a pant length I can actually purchase in the store and therefore wholeheartedly endorse (provided the pants fit, of course).

    • pookiesmom

I think she looks great. In!

    • guest2visits

Love it. Especially because it looks like she got rid of the little pant-cuffs and made it a better length. And the butterfly.
I think she wears it much better than the model; the shoes help alot.

    • Little_Olive

Pre-fall? really? The northern hemisphere is not yet on mid spring and people are wearing pre-fall? Oh well.

      Gorgeous suit.

    • boweryboy

      First thoughts:  cute.

So she gets an IN from me but then again I’m a sucker for straight legged highwater pants.   I use to rock them in the 6th grade – not deliberately though.

I do agree with the pleats. I can’t bear a pleated pant – male or female.

    • Terence Ng

    • Vanessak69

Here’s what happens with these In/Outs like almost every time. I see the picture before the cut just of the top half and think “WTF is their problem?” Then I click thru and go, “Ohhhhh……” She looks very cute. I don’t like the pants. I think if this were a skirt though, she’d be in no problem. Frankly, I kind of love giant butterflies and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

    • Jessi03

IN.  I think it’s adorable on her.

    • Courtney Brown

IN – I think she looks nice

    • Kat Wright

In, but it would be better without the butterfly and if she posed with her legs a little closer together. FAB colour!

    • CatherineRhodes

    • Lisa_Cop

IN. I think very chic, even with the pleated pants. Just lose the butterfly pin.

    • Leah Burns

In as someone could be in this outfit.

    • ThaliaMenninger

IN. She looks great in that color, and the jacket is hiding a lot of the odd pants. I even like her hair and the butterfly.

    • ccm800

IN – for face alone. I am not of fan of her looks but her face is so lovely here and that color combo so correct on her. This is maybe the best her face has looked for me (in a RC pic)

    • Melissa Brogan

She looks stumpy, bulky around the waist, and her bangs are making me sad. Cute makeup, but not enough to pull this out of OUT territory.

    • formerlyAnon

      In, just barely.

    • sleah_in_norcal

i say IN.  she’s a bright little butterfly.

    • blue

IN!!! She looks fantastic. I’d give this a WERQ.

    • Merridith Kristoffersen

IN!  She looks modern and edgy in it, and it’s such a nice change from so many dresses on the red carpet.

    • Mathilde

Great color, great pants, lovely brooch. 100% IN.

    • FayeKat

I think she looks amazing, the colour is perfect on her and i like the cluch for being the unusual choise. The hair an make up look fresh and lovelly, plus i love butterflies. To me it looks pretty perfect! IN.
If it was up to me i might have given her a WERQ!

    • bellafigura1

Absolute NYC perfection.  Which is to s ay, I wore almost the same thing (Zara, navy, polka dot shirt) yesterday!  I am mad for that pant length with pumps.  Just. Too. Cute.  Also, her makeup is gorgeous, especially the lip color with that suit.  Yum!

    • crh

IN. Although I always confuse Freida Pinto with Rosario Dawson and vice versa…

    • momogus

Not my favorite look, but she’s so beautiful I can’t help but give her an IN. That butterfly makes me twitch, though.

    • Zi Jie Tan

love it! would wear everything except the butterfly

    • KathKo

Definitely in, if only just because she choose pants instead of a gown or a cocktail dress.
And I think she looks lovely in it.

    • Jessica TallGirl Freeman

      IN.  Love it.

    • Merneith

Out. I hate that suit. I think the jacket’s an awkward length and I’m not sold on skinny pants with it. Looks better on her than the model, but ultimately, OUT.

    • mjude

    • NatalieD28

IN!! Love it all – especially that gorgeous smile!!

    • sagecreek

OUT. This just screams Dillards to me.

    • Christin Pardy-Nosenchuk

    • ChaquitaPhilly

IN. Because the all-over-pulled-togetherness of the look overcomes the pleatedness of the pants.
      Love it!

    • Nancer

In and totally adorable. Love the pin, love the bag, and it’s refreshing to see such a nice color in pants!

    • Micaela Cannon

In! The pants didn’t bother me, though the hair is sort of business casualish

    • Roz

Red pants are nobody’s friend. OUT.

    • Jennifer Hofstetter

    • Fatima Siddique

I’m not wild about the pleats. She looks like she’s going to Parent-Teacher conferences.

    • Anna Daugherty

Tentative IN: Love the suit and the color, hate the butterfly and the greasy hair. Takes it into bank teller territory.

    • newtonGOTbeaned

IN. Though I don’t love her hair. And I’m slightly opposed to the pin. But she and the suit both look cute.

    • DinahR

IN – I love the color on her, love that its a suit.  The pants don’t look amazing, but I don’t think they are that bad either.  I would have preferred different hair is all.

    • Dhammadina

In. Sharp. The bag neutralizes the butterfly.

    • Rachel Lee

Perfect! It suits her better than the model, and i think the hemlength is just right. In!

    • ErmengardeGreen

Matchy, but I love it. The pants fit weirdly in the crotch.

    • Jennifer Jacobsen-Wood

In. I think she looks lovely.  II would have liked the brooch to be a bit smaller and don’t like the clutch, but she is adorable, nonetheless.

    • Cathy S

I wish the pants were longer but I still think she’s In.

    • Cathy S

I wish the pants were longer but I still think she’s In.

    • EEKstl

Total IN for me.  I think she looks great, head to toe.

    • Sunshine16

In – she’s rockin it, regardless of the pleated pants

    • Depot'er

at first, out- but you know what? she pulls it off- it refreshing to see this look, she NAILS the color, the smile…and by golly, she TRIED here. IN

    • TheVeryLivingEND

      IN! IN! IN!

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

IN.  Except for the bag.  The pin doesn’t bother me.  She is certainly beautiful!

    • TheOriginalLulu

I think that outfit is just okay on her, which is not okay because she’s not a just-okay-looking woman.
The color is great on her.

    • Kate4queen

IN-she is smiling and obviously confident in how she looks and that makes me smile too. :)

    • HobbitGirl

I love the suit, except the pleating on the pants. WHY WOULD ANY WOMAN EVER WEAR PLEATED PANTS? Even a very slender woman like Freida here looks shlubby in them. The color is fantastic, though.

What is up with the Sarah Palin hair, though?

    • TAGinMO

      Love it, full stop. IN.

    • golspie

The pinched shoulders and short legs make her look unfitted

    • Sophie Collier

    • SatelliteAlice

In.  I like the idea of it and the color works for her.  She should have lost the pin or picked a less insane one but I think it works on her – hem length and all.

    • J MN

IN  I think she looks impeccable and well put together.  The sleeve length and hem are perfect, tailored just right.

    • P M

OUT: BOOORING. Except for the lipstick, which is not her usual horrible nude. Frieda, if you’re going to be style inspiration for the Mumbai professional clawing her way to the top, at least TRY to be fabulous.

I’m sorry, you guys, for sounding extra-bitter, but I really find her so DULL.

    • MissAnnieRN

I totally thought this was Lea Michelle in the thumb nail.

Anyway, I’m giving her an IN despite the fact that I hate pleated pants on general principles, think the accessories are wrong, and I’m only 50/50 on the hem length.  I’m a sucker for hot pink?  And Freida is beautiful?  I dunno.  Something is still working for me here.

    • Rebecca

The jacket needs to be buttoned. And her hair is a bit sloppy. But the color is *great* on her!

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

      In.  Her face is lovely.

    • lilazander

I would gine an IN, beacuse she generally looks great on to, but those pants are for tall gals, which she is not.

    • Shawn EH

IN! She’s got it going on!

    • RutGot

Love it. Color looks great on her and she just looks so happy.

    • Mirakel9

Pant length is fine, butterfly is ugly, the rest of the styling is nice (but the bag is big)! I think she looks great!

    • ballerinawithagun

      In, but no butterfly.
