Gwyneth Paltrow in Burberry Prorsum

Posted on April 27, 2012

We don’t know if Gwynnie actually had lunch in this, but it certainly screams Lady Who Lunches, no?

Gwyneth Paltrow out and about in NYC in a Burberry Prorsum dress paired with Sergio Rossi heels and a Victoria Beckham shoulder bag.

Burberry Prorsum Pre-Fall 2012 Collection

Victoria Beckham Two-tone Shoulder Bag

And that’s not a bad thing at all in this case. She looks put the hell together. But man, that’s a tough getup to wear all day. Then again, she probably gets a charge out of maintaining perfect posture and sucking in her stomach for hours at a time. Maybe she’ll write a Goop entry about it. One thing’s for sure; whomever she met and wherever she went for lunch that day, you can bet she didn’t have a bacon cheeseburger and curly fries.

Still, we totally dig the look and it suits her to a T.

My only hot button here is that I would have liked her hair to be a trifle more formally styled.  But that’s a minor point.

      • 3boysful

         DItto.

      • PaulaBerman

Or at least, you know, combed.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

          Exactly.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I still prefer it over here over extremely straight or slicked back looks.  The softness looks good on her.

      • lovelyivy

It has been pretty windy- she might have started the day fairly neat and devolved to this state quickly.

      • TheOriginalLulu

Yeah, her hair always bums me out. She’s another one who is stuck in the hair rut.
It looks particularly sad here, like it hasn’t seen a comb in weeks.

      • http://theargiehome.blogspot.com/ Gus Casals

Actually, I like that for once she forgot the pinstraight hair

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

You have me on that.  The waves are a real improvement.  I only wish it wasn’t so sloppy looking.

          • MilaXX

THIS. I think the hair needs a bit more curl at the bottom. Otherwise I like the look.

      • librarygrrl64

        This x10.

    • Addicted2Glamour

Is she contractually obligated to hold that shoulder bag like that ?

      • Rebecca Johnson

Yes, otherwise Posh won’t take her calls anymore. ;-)

      • kimmeister

I don’t even see how the bag could even fit on somebody’s shoulder, unless said person was a child.

    • l3icest3r

Dress is beautiful, but hair looks busted. This look suits her perfectly though.

      • Lilak

“Busted” is right … in more ways than needing a comb.
Otherwise, yes, a most suitable look for Miss G.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Much better without the bow belt the model is wearing.

When I see “Burberry Prorsum,” my country-girl brain always reads “Burberry Possum.”

      • tsid2012

ME TOO!!!  I watched the movie “Winter’s Bone” again the other night.  Fantastic movie but it strikes a little to close to home to his recovering “country white trash” guy.  Like an extra family gathering…

      • Stine Vejen

        Hahaha, mine too!

      • SewingSiren

Count me amongst the ‘possum  readers.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ginny-Ellsworth/534496198 Ginny Ellsworth

I’m seeing Blueberry Possum. sigh. Can’t tell if I’m going crazy or just tired.

      • YayaGurl

I was just about to post how much I hate the word Prorsum.  I think Possum would be an improvement.

        • makeityourself

I have always seen “possum.”  Possum would be an improvement because I don’t know how to say “Prorsum.”  And I’ve never heard anyone speak the word.  Does it sort of rhyme with “foursome?”  Maybe if i watched one of their famous videos that would help.

    • mellorcr

It’s probably a line of ruching that makes it look that way, but in the last pic it’s distorting the shape of her bottom in a very unflattering fashion.  I’ll bet they had to tell the model to hold her arm “just so” in order to hide that in the pic from the collection.

      • fallen_ikon

I was thinking that exact same thing. That dress in motion does not do her tush any favors. It makes her look like she’s smuggling a washboard under her skirt.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

Nitpicky, but it looks very Fall to me?

      • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

If NYC is as cold and wet as it has been in London recently, fall colours are pretty appropriate! We still have the heating on!

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

It’s been very up and down, so you see weird combinations, like a sundress and sandals with a coat worn over! :-v)

      • butterflysunita

It really feels like fall in NYC right now.  The leaves are even falling off the trees.

    • http://twitter.com/MandySCG MandyJane

I love the bag the model is holding.

    • http://twitter.com/The_Bugler Anna Daugherty

I think a belt in goldenrod would look great. Not necessarily the one on the model, but something to break up the monotony of the gray.

      • giiiirrrr

Totally agreed.  The color from that belt gave the outfit that special pop.  It’s a bit schoolmarm without it.

    • tsid2012

That dress looks insanely great on her.  LOVE it….

    • Paigealicious

I love that dress, but it looks a bit too…”fall” for April…

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Gwennie fully covered and looking good.  Love that dress.

    • TheOriginalLulu

It’s really a beautiful dress and she’s got the bod for it. I’m not really sure that gray is her best color, though.

    • http://twitter.com/watchinginkdry Dr Skylaser

I like the Burberry bag better than the Vicky B one she’s carrying.  It looks sort of plasticky, and to my eye doesn’t talk nice to the dress (which does look great).

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/4KLZGI7NMQE2LQDYYSMPFXANW4 Uche

Eh.Dislike the fabric, and it looks uncomfortable.

    • introspective

Fit of the dress is to die. Purse is a win. As noted, the hair is a mess. But she’s still rocking the look.

which makes for a caps off werq. as in “werq that upper east side chic gwynnie!”

    • http://theargiehome.blogspot.com/ Gus Casals

The look is perfect for her. Love the shoes and the bag too, and I’m surprised you accessories bitches didn’t mention it.

      • Adriana_Paula

Those shoes are perfection.  Plus, if you’re Jennifer Jason Leigh, you could totally stab a dude in the eye with the heels.

    • janetjb

Come back in October Gwen and I’ll tell you how good you look.

      • http://twitter.com/Lola99959 Veronika Kaufmann

that’s exactly what I thought. So not season-appropriate.

    • nannypoo

In spite of all the positive comments here, I sure do hate this dress. I don’t like the color, the fabric, the ruching, the length (refer to any picture of Cathy Cambridge to see how to remedy the length problem), the styling, the celebrity or the celebrity’s hair. She should save this outfit for when she’s 70 years old and then we’ll all be commenting on how flattering it is for a woman her age.

    • Beardslee

      she looks great

    • mshesterp

My goodness, the model almost disappears when she turns to the side, doesn’t she??

Even though it strikes me as fall-like, I like this on Gwyn, and her hair too (the waves are soft and pretty, if a little unkempt).  She looks good.  Love the heels–it’s hard to find a good, simple, flattering black heel.

    • mjude

      but tlo her hair

    • http://www.djplaw.com/ Tadiana

The dress looks more like office wear than ladies who lunch wear.  She really should just give it to me.

    • dress_up_doll

It’s been cool as crap here lately, so I’ll cut her some slack on wearing the pre-fall fashion. However, it fits her like a dream and sans the wacked hair, she looks pretty fabulous.

    • Little_Olive

Great dress, but I would have added a little styling interest; maybe not just like the model but something in that direction.

And she needs to shorten her bra straps about an inch. And maybe wear a harder-cupped bra, so her boobs are not squished like egg yolks under the heavy fabric.

    • Malice Grant

Huh. I’m not swayed. And the lines of ruching around the hips give it the vague impression of undies on the outside, or a leotard with an attached straight skirt. Took me a minute in that first pic to realize it was ruching, and not a high-waisted undies showing through the fabric.

    • http://twitter.com/Lola99959 Veronika Kaufmann

yes, it suits her but it’s such a autumn look, no? Maybe she just came back from Melbourne and got the seasons confused because “oh my gosh, I travel so much and my assistants forgot to tell me which hemisphere I’m in.”

    • StillGary

I gotta give anyone props that can stand on those shoes for more than 10 minutes — I know a lot of the kittens can do it — looks awesome!

    • BayTampaBay

      I think she looks great!

    • Jessica Rowe

      LOVE that bag.

    • Sara Leigh Merrey

The look’s great. I still don’t like Gwennie though.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

She looks fantastic and so chic. I love that dress.

    • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

Better question – where can I get that purse? It’s beautiful. Unfortunately, probably also mega-expensive.

Ok I’m back, just clicked the link and checked the price. $3k. I know people who have paid less for cars than that! Guess I won’t be carrying a Victoria Beckham purse any time soon.

    • Stefanos Mantyla

       She has a beautiful profile.

    • marilyn

I agreee.  It is time for Gwennie to give up the overbleached teenage surf girl hair look.  She is really long in the tooth for that one.  Maybe she needs to check out Cameron Diaz

      • AthenaJ

Gwenyth still looks pretty young, though… time has not been as kind to Cameron’s face.

    • Susan Crawford

Not loving the hair, but the dress is great, if a bit autumnal (even for a rather chilly spring NYC day). LOVE the VB bag.

      Still anti-Gwynnie/Goopie.

    • poggi

I didn’t even notice all the puckering design of the dress in the first shot.  I like it, although in the profile pic the puckering makes it looks like she has a cottage cheesy butt.

    • Kyle Crawford

I don’t think she has ever looked better!  SO happy that monster shoes are five min ago….

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ginny-Ellsworth/534496198 Ginny Ellsworth

Is it just me or doesn’t the model look like Susan Dey from the Partridge Family?

    • mom2ab

      Girlfriend needs a better bra.

    • http://vvatima.livejournal.com/ murt

Wow that dress actually looks super comfortable with the stretchy knit…. And like GP needs to suck in her stomach. I’d love to get one for work.

    • Carla_Charlton

That dress looks fantastic — understated, sophisticated.  Her hair looks so much better like this, rather than stick straight (which seems like a dated look).  I have to grudgingly admit that, more often than not, Gwyneth looks really good.

    • Chaiaiai

Hmmm.  Interesting that GOOP is carrying a Vickey bag when Stella, G’s bestie, loathes her.  I wonder what that means…

      • AthenaJ

Perhaps Gwenyth has recognized the horrors Stella hath wrought upon the world of fashion and is taking a stand against her? One can only hope…

        • Chaiaiai

We can hope….maybe this is how RICH!BEST!FRIENDS! send a message.  In the press.  Passive aggressively….

    • IAmJ

It’s a great dress and it looks great on her. My only complaint is the makeup (or near absence thereof).

    • SpcilK

I am not a fan, but she looks AMAZING! She looks like a shipping magnates trophy wife.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/W7A5N4G7FDTV5U2KOHBVSB55XI Basket

She played that character in a movie with Michael Douglas.

        • SpcilK

Well she is a character and a caricature of herself at times.

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

I find her extremely annoying, but she looks good.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/W7A5N4G7FDTV5U2KOHBVSB55XI Basket

I am too bias to judge.  When I see her, I cannot see pass her mega-privilege….it’s just there, staring back at me.all.the.time.

    • Sophie Collier

Very good business woman look.  I think a pop of color SOMEWHERE would have ramped up this ensemble to a “WERQ” but there isn’t really any flaw I can find here.

    • Lina_bee

I like the dress, but I’d prefer it with brown accessories instead of black.

    • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

      Makeup and hair suck balls.

      Just sayin’.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Julie-Chase/731391326 Julie Chase

      Love that bag.

    • Melissa Brogan

Cute dress, but YOUR HAIR GWYNETH. ALWAYS THAT UGLY HAIR. STOP IT.

    • CQAussie

This look is great on her, I love it head to toe, especially the shoes and bag!

    • EEKstl

Gawd, I wish I had both the figure and the wallet for that dress.

    • guest2visits

I wish I hadn’t seen all that unattractive ruching in the last pics.  I thought it was just a very nice column dress that
fit her beautifully at first.   Everytime I see ruching; …why?  It always looks silly and excessive.

    • http://www.myblackfriendsays.com myblackfriendsays

It looks better on the model.

    • Terence Ng

      AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

      …I’ll drink to that.

      • NurseEllen

         And one for Mahler!

    • sleah_in_norcal

pretty damn conservative, no?  a hot belt might add some interest.  are we sure that’s gwynnie?  the profile looks nothing like her.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=720742723 Sarah Winningham

      Love the model’s bag.

    • Kate4queen

      I like it all :)

    • rainwood1

That’s an outfit you can shop in only if there’s a limo outside your every destination.

    • afabulous50

BRUSH. YOUR. HAIR. ….or at least wash it before you go out.  Otherwise – fabulous!

    • sashaychante

Kinda boring.  Her hair is always so stringy.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I can’t help thinking she looks wealthy rather than stylish, and the bag in the original color would have been a better choice.  (And yes, I did just dis a $3k handbag.  Living the dream.)

    • momogus

      Love love love.

    • Lisa Kramp

LOVE that dress! But the bag belongs on the arm of my lovely, 90 year old Aunt!

    • Zippypie

Spanx working overtime.  I like this a lot, just not the overprocessed messy hair with roots.  I like her with a more golden blond – less harsh.

    • kikisayshi

      Love!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_J4QGTFQCCILAE4N2SYZZRJ6SPY R LM

I do like the waves, and that is a hot ass dress.  Speaking of ass, she may not quite have the bum to fill that out  - but I do!  :D

      • http://howtofaint.tumblr.com/ How to Faint

Seriously. That dress is begging for a butt like a question mark, not  an exclamation point.

    • Judih1

Nice dress, but looks like dress for the fall season, not spring

    • DebbieLovesShoes

      Love!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=517890557 Willis Cramer Kliefoth

She looks great, but that dress seems so out of season and too serious. A bit of a downer.

    • fursa_saida

I LOVE that bag. Damn you, Posh, with your surprisingly actual talent.

    • PeaceBang

She looks amazing. I love her hair when it’s not ironed to a crispy fry (I know she doesn’t EAT fries, she just does that to her hair).

    • DeTrop

Back in the day, we wore dresses like this to the office.  I swear it’s true.  This was before all the pants suits started showing up in the 70′s to give women the look of being equal to men.  There were no spanx back then, but we did have the horrific ‘rubber girdle’. What a treat that was getting into and out of.  Baby powder anyone?

Oh, I forgot – she looks great.
