Ewan McGregor, Being Ewan McGregor

Posted on April 11, 2012

Kittens, Daddy and Papa are playing blog catchup after some important morning bidness. You’re just going to have to be patient with us and yes, Mad Style’s coming later today. For now, we’re taking the lazy blogger’s route. No, not kitten videos; just pictures of a cute guy to appeal to your more loin-based interests.

Also, we have an Important Question for the Ages:

Ewan McGregor attends the European premiere of “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen” in London.

Is it the smile?

Or the eyes?

God knows it’s not the clothes (at least not in this instance).

Although we could be persuaded on those sh — nope. No we can’t. Momentary fit of madness there.

Face it: he’s just the total package, regardless of his goofy shoes or too-casual-for-a-premiere clothes. We could harrumph and insist that he dress more appropriately but he’s just. SO. CUTE.

One more question: Beard: YEA or NAY?

He’s one of those men who can pull off clean-shaven and bearded equally as well.

It’s the smile (although the accent only enhances it).  He doesn’t look bad with a beard, but I prefer him clean shaven.

    •  Agreed on all counts.

          WHAT THE HELL.

  • judybrowni

    Beard, NAY.
    Everything else, YAY!

    • AudreysMom

Beard, NAY also. He can save that for when he’s 20 years older.

A vote from Audrey for the eyes (over the smile – but that’s kinda cute too).

  • Beard: god, I don’t care – he’s just so adorable either way. But I can’t get behind the Hermann Munster shoes.

  • dress_up_doll

    Beard: Yea!
    Clean-shaven: Hell-to-the Yea!

    Kicks: No comment.

  • unbornfawn

    I’m content. Purrrrrrrrrr……..

  • i am always pro beard

  • quiltrx

I think a lot of it is the eyes, but it’s just HIM.  You have to have the facial expressions and the voice to make the total package really SO fabulous.  He’s definitely a “women want him (and so do some men), and men want to BE him” kind of guy.

And I happen to love the shoes.

    • terpsichory

Hey! Women want to be him as well! But then I also wanted to BE Indiana Jones, so there. Otherwise, I agree completely.

    • JackieOBlue

      Perfectly stated.

  • TheDivineMissAnn

Don’t like his shoes, but the ones on the lady in picture two are fab.

  • JasmineAM

He’s cute, but not worthy of loin tingling.

  • merciblahblah

It’s the smile for me. He has the most engaging, sincere smile around. Like he really really enjoys his life. Sigh. I love him.

  • formerlyAnon

It’s not just smile or eyes, it’s the way his whole face engages when he speaks. And, well, maybe the eyes.  I say this as an impartial observer who finds him attract in the abstract but whose loins are not interested.

    Beard: NAY. (Strong personal preference.)

  • For me, its the whole package.  Smile, eyes, and yeah, bearded does it for me, Big Time.  But then I’m fond of the furry.  Ultimately it just comes across like he’s a great guy, with a sweet nature, and that will slay me anytime.

    • Anathema_Device

I’ve mentioned it here before, but if you ever get a chance to see a rerun of the Graham Norton show with him as guest, watch it. I think I saw my teenage son develop a serious man-crush on him while watching that episode.

      • annieanne

The show where they play with the light sabers?
Best Graham Norton EVER. And he regularly has fabulous shows.

        • Anathema_Device

Yes, that one, with the reenacting of the Velvet Goldmine Christian Bale sex scene! I wish I had saved that episode on Tivo. I could watch it all the time.

        • JackieOBlue

Graham Norton is awesome, so hilarious.

      • Everybody is cuter on the Graham Norton Show. He brings out the best in everyone.

        • librarygrrl64

That is so true. He has the gift of helping people relax. And the alcohol helps. 😉

  • TSkot

    BIG YAY on the beard

  • Ooh, honey, it’s the accent.  Makes me weak in the knees.

    • Adriana_Paula

      Worrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd, lassie.

  • Beard: NAY

    It’s the eyes… 🙂

  • Don’t like facial hair, or any hair on the head at all.  Did you hear what Louis CK said about McGregor?  He said he’s not gay, but there is one man he’d like to do (he didn’t use the word “do”) – Ewan McGregor, just cause he’s so amazingly gorgeous!

    • I’m jonesing for Mad Style.

  • The beard would feel oh so good rubbing against my own.

Oh sorry–I got lost for a moment. What were we talking about?

  • Addendum.  I really kinda dig those shoes.  Ewan, would you drop them off at my place when you’re done with them?  Thanks, Kiltd.

    • librarygrrl64

Better yet, leave them under your bed after a night together. 😉

  • Beard. Always beard. I will take him either way, obviously. But when given the choice, BEARD.

And um, the other question? Ewan’s the whole package. The way he carries himself. His confidence- but not overconfidence. And he’s got a knows-what-he’s-doing-in-the-sack vibe that certainly doesn’t hurt.

  • Kimberlini

  • It’s the boyish smile + the voice. Oh lordy, the voice.

And ditto on the beard. I thought he was even hotter when he was supposed to be all drunk and depressed (and unshaven) in Moulin Rouge than when he was falling in love.

  • NDC_IPCentral

Was that smile somehow enhanced or did he paint his teeth with Wite-Out – unnaturally bright!  As to the beard – no neck scruff, which makes the beard more acceptable than others who just look unkempt.  The outfit – pretty deplorable, but Mr. McGregor does give off an appealing vibe, whether it’s genuine or not (Is it real or is it Memorex?).

  • Gail Lannum

    The smile and the dimples!!

  • It is ridiculous how good-looking he is. He just gets better with age too. Dang.

  • Yea for the beard. And everything else, frankly. Even those shoes, which…what ARE those shoes? Brothel stompers?

  • Isana Leshchinskaya

BOTH. plus the hair, the accent, and the talent

    • amywinns

PLEASE let’s not forget the amazing talent and wonderful taste in projects to use it in!

  • Anathema_Device

Aww, he’s wearing Teddy Boy creepers! Sure, they are a bit goofy looking on him, but I can pretty much forgive him anything.

He is the total package. It is the eyes and the smile and the impish charm. I try not to imagine that I know what celebrities are really like, but he seems like a cool guy.

    • ballerinawithagun

      I agree.

  • It’s all YAY!

  • jw_ny

I could easily stare into those eyes….ahhh.  😉  I enjoy Ewan no matter how he’s smiling, or whether he’s clean shaven or not…he just looks good.  TBH though, those shoes are kind of silly looking.  The white stripe above the thick sole bugs me, but mostly, they look huge on him…like clown feet.  I also dislike the leather knees…wtf?  This overall outfit was not one of his more inspired looks.  Still looks good though.  🙂

  • Gorengirl

That man is fine!! What I wouldnt do for a man like that…..

    • RebeccaKW

What I wouldn’t do TO a man like that.  😉

  • alyce1213

YEA!! Everything!  He’s so fine, he transcends the clothes, even the obligatory scarf and questionable footwear.

  • JanieS

With the beard he looks more Obi-Wan-ish, so I say YEA.

  • he’s not really my type, but the minute he started singing in “Moulin Rouge,” my testicles quivered in excitement.

  • twocee

Eyes.  No beard, but that’s totally a personal preference.  He looks good in his.

  • Beard YEAH!
The only minor change I’d do would be with the hair: it needs to be shorter or messier. The rest is perfection.

  • MilaXX

Unless he’s playing Obi Wan, NAY! and I love him to bits, but those shoes are hiddy and giving him the  worse case of duck feet I’ve seen in a long time.

  • beebee10

I love how damn talented he is, how he isn’t type cast and even appeared in a Star Wars movie and suffered no lasting damage.
    Total package, I’d say.

    •  He was absolutely the best part (by far) of the new SW movies.  His performance in the lava scene of ROTS made me actually like that one.

  • I don’t know what it is about him – but those pictures a long while back of him riding a bike with a puppy nearly killed me. I had to deal with the aftermath of the ovary explosion for WEEKS, I tell you.

  • lilazander

Yea to Ewan! For me, it’s hard to care what his wearing, I’m more interested in what’s underneath the layers (hih, she said…).

  • KSuKim

It’s when the smile REACHES the eyes!

    • lizajane1776

That’s it! Thanks for explaining what I couldn’t.

  • lilibetp

He’s never actually appealed to my loin-based interests.  Liam Neeson, Silas Carson, Gerry Baker, Jack Davenport, yes.  Tom Hollander kind of gets to me in his POTC getup.  But Ewen McGregor?  Nah.

  • The eyes, plus the accent.

The shoes would have worked so much better if there was about 1/2-1 inch extra in the pants hem.  Right now, the combo of the two just looks awkward.

  • In my opinion, it’s the personality.  I always thought he was just okay until I got to “know him” a little bit better, and he got so much better-looking to me!

  • jblaked

It’s the whole package.  Maybe if he were a douchebag underneath the cute exterior, he’ lose some points, but he just seems like an awesome guy.  And the accent doesn’t hurt.  Swoon.

  • bookish

Yay to the beard, although like you said he looks good either way. And it’s the eyes. So cute!

  • Definitely the total package.  He’s dreamy.

  • MzzPants

Preference:  Ewan McGregor.  That is all.

  • Before I saw him with a beard, I would have thought nay.  But once you see it – downright yummy.

  • JuliaInBlack

Beard, YAY.  Yay to anything regarding Ewan.  I would hit that like the fist of an angry God.

  • It’s the whole package and I’m definitely pro-beard. He made Obi-Wan sexy as hell, yo. I love any time he’s on Craig Ferguson’s show. That’s always a good time.

  • PeggyOC

Yay to everything but the shoes.  And he could kick those off as he came in the house for our rendezvous.  I’ll be in my bunk.

  • SneakyKitty

He has this boyish charm to him.  Pretty eyes, friendly smile, adorable accent.  Don’t care if he’s bearded or not, and I am not a fan of beards, but Mr. McGregor is exempt from that.

  • ChaCha_70

I normally prefer a clean cut man but Ewan can look just as hot with a beard. I love him so! He makes me tingly inside.

  • JenXer

I think it’s the eyes and while I’m not a fan of facial hair, Ewan could make me forget the terms “crumb catcher” and “flavor saver.”

  • Diego!

Is it me or he has have some job done with botox on his forehead???

His face is kind of different. He looks great, I can’t deny that, but the first pic shows a different Ewan as well… His clothes & shoes are amazing!!!

  • VanessaDK

Those teeth are too bright!  My eyes!!!

  • Sara__B

Does he have the biggest feet in the world or is it just the clown shoes? No matter. He’s such a charming guy, especially when he smiles, or talks with that lovely accent. (I’m not crazy about the beard, but mostly because the mustache is thin and scraggly. I hope it will fill in a bit.)

  • It’s all about the *twinkle* in the eyes. He smiles with absolute sincerity and good humor – or at least a believable facsimile thereof. I used to date a guy who wasn’t the most conventionally attractive fellow, but he had the same twinkly blue eyes and smile. Instant puddle.

  • Hot Hot Hot!  He’s a Yay in my book – anyway I can get him. 🙂

  • It’s the smile.  And yes, he can pull of beard or no beard.  Lucky.

  • BEARD PLEASE!!!! GRRRRRRRRR, cubby likes!

  • Even straight men can’t resist him 😀

  • lordandtaylor

    Beard? For gosh sake..YES!
    Eyes? Dreamy.
    Smile? Yes, oh yes.

    I want the shoes, too.

  • amywinns

It’s the total package!! In addition to your list, gotta include his voice, his personality, his (documented) offscreen adventures, his loving family life, his fabulous gregarious spirit and all that amazing talent and charisma… plus his TOTAL PACKAGE, used to great effect especially in his earlier career. Hellooooo, sir.

And I am not usually a beard fan, but agree he can work any facial hair configuration. Can’t explain. He just knows how to use facial hair and spectacles as accessories — always seems intentional, not lazy.

  • Dejah_Thoris

He works both clean-shaven and scratchy-face.

Speaking of Ewan, I just watched one of his early movies from 1998, called “Little Voice.” It was wonderful! He was adorably fresh-faced and innocent. Plus, Jane Horrocks (from AbFab) has the most amazing voice!

    • Ogden1990

      LOVED that movie!

  • Violina23

*sigh* I’ve always loved me some Ewan…

  • lrhoff

Beard or no beard, he is one handsome man.  Mm hm.

  • Larkin21

Ewan can do whatever he wants with his face.

  • Joyce VG

    All of him. YEA.

  • Nay to the beard. And those shoes.

  • Vaniljekjeks

OOh I am into the beard.  It works.  And I think it’s the same thing with Fassy… it doesn’t matter what they are wearing I am just thinking of them without clothes anyway.

  • sarahofalessergod

It’s the whole package.  Plus HIS package.

  • I’m a beard guy, but I must say that this particular manifestation requires much closer examination.

    Much much closer examination.

    Extremely close examination.

Like, close enough to make out examination.

  • JackieOBlue

Beard, no beard, smile, no smile.  With Ewan, it just doesn’t matter.   Cannot figure out exactly what it is with him, but he is perfection, IMO.

  • jessieroset

beard = HELL yea! that first pic with the smile is just ridic.

  • kingderella

    i like him scruffy.
hate the shoes, love the rest.

  • SapphoPoet

I’m sorry–were you saying something? I’m busy looking at the hotness.

  • ChiKat67

It’s the entire package (too bad there’s no way to screen cap his accent as well…). Big yea.

  • carolynmo

I was “liking” every comment and just gave up. The man’s just a cutie. That’s all.

  • Pants_are_a_must

He. Is. RIDICULOUS. When he is 60, he’ll look like he’s 40 and we’ll STILL be torn whether to cuddle or fuck him.

  • Moondancer5

    The smile. And the package…

  • It’s the eyes.

  • Aurumgirl

I prefer him in The Pillow Books.  Sigh.  Anyway, the shoes are fine by me.

  • Carla_Charlton

You know I’m a fan, but I am not enjoying the hair. (What is that Euro boy style called?  I noticed that Chris Martin seems to be wearing it, as well.)

  • Emily Scott

I think it’s the fact that he’s so cute paired with the fact that he has a great personality. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him be anything but a total sweetheart in public appearances. He comes off as so real and approachable and normal.

And yes, he can definitely pull off both clean-shaven and bearded. I’m actually a bit partial to the beard.

  • He doesn’t do it for me, but he has both a great smile and killer eyes.

  • veronkimo

I’ve never found him appealing. He just doesn’t do it for me. Also, that picture where he is smiling with Teeth looks really odd- almost like his teeth are unnaturally white. It probably only looks that way because of the weird lighting.

    oh and Beard: NAY.

On some guys it looks alright, but most of the time, I prefer a clean, shaven face!

  • sunandmoon24

    omg….it’s the everything.

  • Eclectic Mayhem

Smile, eyes, accent, beard/no beard; it’s all fabulous!

  • Malice Grant

    I’ll be in my bunk…….

(….. It obviously matters not if he’s dressed to the nines or the bozos. The loins, they tingle at the mere thought.)

  • vanjar

It’s the twinkle in his eyes.  He wears his beard well, so Yea it is.

  • Terence Ng

    Yeah on the beard! Woof!

  • Cathy B.

He is just pure yum. Beard please!

  • “Loin-based interests” – New band name or first single?

  • Julie Fountain

It’s the eyes! And the accent.  Nay on the beard.

  • TheOriginalLulu

It’s the eyes. Those EYES! And the fact that when he smiles, his eyes smile too! So it’s the smile too. That SMILE!

I’m going to have to say NAY on the beard, but I think I remember seeing pics of him with like a 2-day scruff and THAT was a definite YEA.

  • You can always shove the shoes underneath the bed

  • thank you.
    the smile. and the laugh.
love the scruffyness. YEA to the beard.

  • Yes to the beard, especially ginger. I’ve always loved a man with a beard, and I’m lucky enough to be married a man with with a lovely ginger beard. He’s also of Scottish descent. Must be a thing.

  • Clean shaven, but I wouldn’t kick him out of bed for the beard.

  • guest2visits

Now THIS is the guy…….Ewan McGregor…who cares if he’s wearing goofy-ass shoes.
I fell in love when he sang with Nicole Kidman in that crazy Moulin Rouge musical. And everything else after; oh yes.

Seriously though Ewan; are those shoes magnetized for walking up the sides of buildings,- whaaat ?

  • j_anson

He can pull of some beards. But not this one. NAY.

  • Those shoes would only look good on the floor next to my bed….

  • For me, it’s the aura of his past role in Moulin Rouge. You never forget your first love.

Also, NAY on the beard, it ages him a bit.

  • Beard, Yay, though I like him either way. What does it for me is his voice, including his accent. I saw him as Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls, and his romantic singing voice had me on a non-alcoholic high.

  • RebeccaKW

I will take Ewan bearded or shaved, in goofy clothes or not.  B/c my plan is to get the clothes off him.

  • Yes, even though I hate his outfit.

  • Rand Ortega

Yummy. Nothing like a dose of Ewan in the a.m. The brogues are fantastic. Gives the ensemble an extra kick. But NAY on the chin whiskers. Makes his face look longer. For a minute I thought it was Ben Affleck. Ick. Perish the thought!

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Its his eyes, his accent, everything.  Its just the total package.  And YEA on the beard.

  • BeeBeauNYC

    Yay for the beard!
    -Bearded guy

  • Emily Guillory

I like the beard, he’s so effin cute.

  • I hate beards.

  • piecesofconfetti

I think it’s also his amazing talent. He is the total actor package.

Although this beard looks good, I do prefer him clean-shaven.

  • favorthebold

I love those shoes, you bitches are wrong about them, wrong I say!

  • mjude

beard YAY but then again he is a forever YAY.  dear god he never disappoints me.

  • gabyripple

I love beards, but on Ewan, I think he looks better clean. His beard doesn’t really grow in evenly enough for me.
Also, the shoes – it looks like someone painted ballet flats on them. Weird.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

YEA to anything he does, says or feels or shows or wants or or or.  YEA.  YEA YEA YEA.  And like other kittens before me have stated, I adore those shoes.

  • NCDFan

I wouldn’t care whether he was bearded or not if I got to touch his face.  Sigh.

  • Mexxoo

I like him with the beard – kinda gives him an Alec Guinness-y look!  YEA!

  • msdamselfly

    It’s his good nature.

    •  Absolutley! He’s all that and a bag of chips, but he comes across as a really top bloke and that’s possibly the most attractive thing about him.

  • I have never found him to be all that attractive until these pictures. MEOW.

  • little9

On Ewan – your question is so RIGHT ON! I have asked myself this a billion times. What IS IT? His face- every feature perfectly balanced- looks like a well made, healthy, thick, country wholesome stew. Eating of which is super good for the body, mind and soul.

On Ewan’s SMILE – It’s so happy looking sometimes (at its best, in the movies, when he flashes it on purpose) that it looks psychotic. Psychotically happy. Thrilling!

    • Derek_anny

Psychotically Happy comes from the bottom teeth.  Most people don’t show the bottom when they smile, but Ewan does.

  • bluefish

It’s the every little thing with him.  Including the voice.  He looks delicious — I love a beard.

  • Ladies’ man, man’s man, man about town. =)

I think it’s his joie de vivre that makes him extra attractive.

  • YEAH for Beard!  I never liked them, until Hubby grew one slightly thinner than this.  Mmmmm…. they’re soft and well, anything else would be TMI.

PS, it’s the eyes, the accent & the smile!

  • bellafigura1

OK.  Deep breath.  So, first.  Are those half-jeans, half-leather pants or am I already drunk?  Next, is he rocking the hell out of creepers, which I hate?  Thirdly, he is irresistible because he takes his clothes off in movies A LOT!  And he’s smooth (I mean like not super-hairy) and smoove!  He looks like he’d be both a giggler and an intense starer-in-the-eyes guy.  I celebrate him!

  • Pennymac

Who cares what he’s wearing cause hopefully he’ll be naked soon? And those eyes and smile who cares about facial hair?

  • TieDye64

I prefer him without the beard, but he call pull it off just fine. I certainly don’t consider it a deterrent. 😀

  • One of the few men in the world whom I still believe to be attractive whilst bearded.

  • CQAussie

Oh goodness, it’s the eyes, the smile AND the beard.  It’s ALL very very good.  SIGH.  Thanks Daddies for this end of day pick-me-up =)

  • he’s dreamy, but i was surprised to see him standing next to emily blunt and they were the same height. him being a shorty never figured into my fantasies.

  • BEARD YAY!  I’m go glad that beards are having a moment again!

  • sid123

“my what nice teeth you have….”

  • ms_kat

It’s the whole package. Plus the motorcycle. Plus the devotion to his wife and kids.

    Rowr. Love.

  • butter nut

yea to all things ewan, for all eternity. <3

  • PeaceBang

Reduced to dreamy gazing at the screen. “What, did you ask me something?”

  • Yay for that beard!

  • DebbieLovesShoes

The beard makes me crazy (in a good way).  Go with the beard, fo sho!!

  • BEARD!
Also, I think it’s the secret smile. He doesn’t have a face that makes you assume he has a huge gorgeous smile. It transforms his face. All my favorite actor men have that talent.

  • I hate those shoes with the passion of a thousand fiery suns…but who the fuck cares, it’s Ewan McGregor. YUM.

  • aristida_girl

    Eyes! Beard! Yea!

  • Truly_Outrageous

  • I prefer him clean-shaven, my best good gay guy friend prefers him bearded.  We have agreed to time-share Ewan should we get the opportunity.

  • EEKstl

    Ewan = Yea.  Always.

  • I can say nothing except that I love him. LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sweetlilvoice

I still remember when he was that Scottish priest in Angels and Demons….so many lustful thoughts. It was The Thornbirds all over again. I think it’s the eyes.

  • Everything is yum! Those are the most complicated Creepers I’ve ever seen. LOVE!

  • librarygrrl64

It’s the everything, but mostly the accent. And I’m usually not a beard fan, but he’s rocking it. He’s always very well-groomed, come to think of it.

  • eight_of_nine

I love those pants but they are way too short on him.  And I think I actually prefer him with some facial hair.

  • Miki Saaryan

Ok, so this is old news, but does someone know the brand of those shoes he’s wearing?! Would be soo happy to know!
