Dakota Fanning in Lanvin

Posted on April 18, 2012

Dear Dakota,

Dakota Fanning attends the 11th Annual Tribeca Film Festival Vanity Fair Party in Lanvin.

Lanvin Pre-Fall 2012 Collection

Your dress is absolutely adorable and looks perfect on you. One bit of advice: please remove your dental device headgear before leaving the house.

Helpfully,

Uncles T Lo

what is up with those reverse darts??? grrrrr

      • Sara__B

The inside out look is now in?

        • lilazander

Precisely my thought; them is a mess too.

        • Louise Bryan

I wondered aloud to my daughter if she was wearing the dress inside-out.  Oh no, she assured me, that’s the style these days.  Hmmph!!

      • kimmeister

It’s contagious!  Also, the model’s one wonky T-strap is giving me twitches.

      • LongTall_Sally

And what is going on at the waist?  No wonder the model has a belt on — I’d cover that up too.

      • http://twitter.com/dysfashional Tilda Donner

This is an ongoing issue with Lanvin…the chintzy technical design issues.

    • granddelusion

That thing on her head is atrocious. And why do I see tacking stitches for the straps?

      • alyce1213

        sloppy, last-minute fitting?  shame.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/W7A5N4G7FDTV5U2KOHBVSB55XI Basket

      Looks like a halo.

      • http://twitter.com/bredalot Bridget Smith

I honestly thought someone had photoshopped a cartoon halo into that first photo. It took a couple different angles before I could shake that.

        • nomoreprinces

So glad I’m not the only one who thought it was a shopped in halo…

          • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

I thought it was a halo too, but scratched into the negative rather than photoshopped in.  Sheesh.

        • reebism

          Agreed! I am relieved TLo didn’t. ;)

        • reebism

          Agreed! I am relieved TLo didn’t. ;)

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_BMEASIKJSVE6YP3DE2VLJA5CUU JulieJ

I thought the same thing…Perez Hilton unfortunately came to mind.  I now cannot get that NewNowNext shot of him out of my head.

          • Celandine1

Kudos to him for losing weight and getting in amazing shape but those red carpet shots in that outfit scarred me for life.

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/W7A5N4G7FDTV5U2KOHBVSB55XI Basket

          Exactly.

    • Lochery

Who cares about the silly headband! She’s wearing a bright color!

    • Sobaika Mirza

I like the headband on its own – is that bad? It just looks ridiculous on her and with this dress.

      • MilaXX

I’m not a fan of them when Nicole Ritchie wears them, but part of the reason it looks stupid on Dakota is because she’s done nothing to integrate it. She just plopped it down on that same, tired hairstyle she always wear. I suspect that’s why so many of the bitter kittens thought it was photoshopped on.

        • http://www.djplaw.com/ Tadiana

The headband also has nothing to do in terms of color or style with the dress she’s wearing.  Slap it on one of those Coachella attendees and I wouldn’t mind it so much.

          • BuffaloBarbara

Heh.  I just kind of assumed that’s where she was.  (Clearly, I don’t read the fine print.)

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

At first I thought the headband was something that was drawn on with photo shop or something…it doesn’t even look real.  But the head gear comment was so funny. I do love the dress, but the shoes need to go as well.

      • http://twitter.com/hdl_b Heather Barkman

I thought the same thing! It doesn’t look like it’s really there somehow

      • http://twitter.com/hdl_b Heather Barkman

I thought the same thing! It doesn’t look like it’s really there somehow

      • sk8tfan

Loved the head gear comment. I am reminded of when she was on Leno (?) as a little kid and she was in full braces and headgear regalia and he commented on it and she said “the more I wear it the sooner I get rid of it!” Apparently that has become her fashion creed.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1392713653 Danniell Carpenter

I thought there was an orange halo drawn onto the picture in the first one! That is hideous.

    • alyce1213

Bravo to Dakota for the dress, finally.  Sweet little clutch, too.
And yes, it really was that warm in NYC yesterday. But the headband, just no.

    • Little_Olive

At first I thought the head thing was painted on by TLo, as if wanting to tell us she is an angel…

Honey, is that head thing really something? Did you come up with it and thought you’d reinvent the headband?

    • Lina_bee

Oh, Lanvin, no. This is terrible. The quasi-tulip skirt is distressing, the straps look unfinished, and the pleating and stripe along the sides look terrible.  Also, it’s too big. However, it’s lovely to see Dakota in a color! I wish the thing on her head didn’t remind me so much of the photoshop meme from a few years ago where you altered photos to stick pancakes on people’s heads, yet I appreciate her willingness to do something a little odd and see how it turns out. At least some of this should be fun, especially for the kids, right?

    • http://twitter.com/The_Bugler Anna Daugherty

      She looks zombiefied. :(

    • MilaXX

For a second I thought that head gear was drawn on. I agree with TLo, it’s silly. Might I add an addendum, a stupid headgear does not make up for the fact that you need a hairstyle.

      • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

EXACTLY! Dakota, do something with your hair. Just not this.

    • 3boysful

Adorable?  Going a bit far for me.  I am appalled that the House of Lanvin would produce a dress that looks like it was made by a novice sewer who flagrantly ignored the rules about pressing seams after sewing.

    • sweetestsith

I LOVE the color on her, I think I like the shape, and hate the inside out look. WTF?

    • jjfg

Good grief, I thought you guys had (badly) ‘shopped that gold thing onto her head.  Took me several photos to realize you didn’t.

I think the dress looks kind of junior bridesmaid.  I agree with the previous poster about the reverse seaming.  Fugly.

    • Jessi03

From far away, I thought it was a half-assed photoshopped halo.  I can’t believe she wore that on purpose.  Cute dress, though.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/J2VE4NE2FY2BP4QD2XOYKJGLPI Laura

      Don’t like the dress either.

    • j_anson

I just don’t understand why everyone is so excited about the Fanning kids, at least from a style perspective. They’re cute enough; they’re rarely all that put together; my usual reaction is “meh. Could be better executed.” It’s not that they look BAD – they look fine, and I’m totally cool with them being teenagers who don’t always look perfect. Good on them. But I don’t get the attention.

    • http://twitter.com/delysia_lafosse Delysia LaFosse

God, that shocking pink is SO MUCH better on her than her usual pastels. It really livens up her skin and hair.

    • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

I like the reverse seaming, just because – let’s face it – it’s hard to come up with something that is truly different in this day and age when fashion and design have gone through so many stages. So playing with the form and the construction of the dress is interesting. I like the color too. It’s appropriate for her age; that being said, though I am considerably older than her, I like rocking fuscia too!

    • TSkot

      Adorable?  Perfect?  Horrible fit!

    • AlexisPayne

In that first pic I thought someone photo shopped a halo on her

    • gdougs

I wish she would do something different with her hair. And by different I do not mean a strange orange halo thing.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=558631967 Ivona Foster

That’s the first thing that comes to mind every time I a see a pic of her. Why is her hair so sad?

    • Terence Ng

I guess I just don’t appreciate her look.

    • charlotte

      Dear Dakota,
      thanks for the good laugh!
Now would you please take that off?

    • crash1212

I’m SO not digging this inverse-inside-out-deconstructed look and sincerely hope it’s not becoming a “thing”. Love the color on her though.

    • DinaSews

I don’t know what it is about her, but she just can’t do anything right by me.  I don’t have an irrational dislike (like Blake Lively), but she is just so ordinary and boring.  She doesn’t stand particularly well and never seems to wear make-up.  She isn’t 6 anymore and needs to move past the ‘what-a-cute-kid’ phase.

    • siriuslover

what the heck is that thing? In the first picture, I thought TLo photoshopped a halo on her head.

      • mommyca

i thought the same thing! if at least the thing were pink, it might have “worked”….

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=713709401 Randy Noak

I love this color, but it somewhat washers her out, no?

      • BeeBeauNYC

I agree – I just don’t think it’s a good color for her. It just seems to highlight her paleness (and I’m not saying paleness is a bad thing.)

      • BeeBeauNYC

I agree – I just don’t think it’s a good color for her. It just seems to highlight her paleness (and I’m not saying paleness is a bad thing.)

    • joancarol

Maybe her wig is inside out too.

    • SignLadyB

And apparently exposed darts are now the in thing? Agree with all you said–the head gear was an unfortunate decision by someone.

    • LuisaNL

I really dislike this whole outfit.

    • jw_ny

Extremely cute dress for her…the halo though, uhm…no.  The seams are a bit rough. I love how white her skin looks in contrast to the bold pink.  So fresh and pretty in contrast to all the fake tans out there…

    • http://needtherapy.tumblr.com/ skadi1

I thought the hair thing was a halo in the first picture. I like it. Her darts need pressing, but she’s rocking that pink.

    • SusiePamudji

Which way to the nipples? Oh, that way. Thanks darts! Cute dress, nice color on her. Is there really anything else to say about the head thingy?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=558631967 Ivona Foster

Ha, ha, ha! I thought you guys started adding squiggles to photos before posting. Alas, I was prove wrong by scrolling down.

    • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com/ Rebecca

Are we sure that’s not photo-shopped?

      Hellaweird.

    • kikisayshi

WTF is on her head? I like the dress from afar but the closer you get the more of a mess it looks with the reverse darts and the weird seam down the side. Plus, it looks like it would fall right off of her without the straps to hold it up. I do love the color though.

    • altalinda

Dissenter:  That is not her dress.

    • Amy Ellinger

      adorable, despite the headband.
      She’s morphing into Amanda Seyfried!

      She’s morphing into Amanda Seyfried!

    • MK03

Whoever told her to wear that thing on her head (or didn’t talk her out of it) needs to be fired.

    • birkatbaby

I honestly had thought you guys had drawn a halo on her head in the picture and chuckled.  Before I realized it was a “headband”.

    • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

      Love the shoes!

    • http://twitter.com/Lola99959 Veronika Kaufmann

the dress is indeed cute but the shoes go more with an ill-fitting paralegal’s woman suit.

    • fungstyle

i seriously can not control myself with this one – every time i see a post with her i just go HAIR CONSULT, STAT. I’m a wash-n-go girl who works in an office and my hair looks better than this on the daily. GET IT TOGETHER DAKOTA.

    • holdmewhileimnaked

how does that thing on her head even work? i coulda sworn it was done in, i dunno, photoshop, illustrator, etc & ect. it’s done too well to be microsoft paint. it’s real though? really really real?

      • Jennifer L.

Seriously. I thought someone had sarcastically photoshopped a halo around her head.

    • margaret meyers

I go to Lanvin for unfinished seams?  I go to Lanvin for a dress left inside out?  No.

    • TheOriginalLulu

I do like the dress on her, but that shit on her head has got to go.
Also, while I think she’s a cutie and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the fresh-faced look, could she please please just shake it up for once and put on some lipstick or mascara or something pretty please?

    • Kelly Ridings

I thought that you guys had photoshopped a really terrible halo onto her head when I saw that first picture.  I really hope… whatever that hair accessory is… is not going to be a trend.

    • ballerinawithagun

      Dental Headgear! Ha! Ha!

      More poorly done reverse darts???

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I hope the weird head accessory trend dies a quick death.  And I hate to disagree with TLo, but I can’t love a dress that looks like it could stand up on its own.

    • guest2visits

Oh no. She just looks alittle frightened, or anxiuos.  Scary smile, scary eyes, scary children of the corn hair.
I think that hideous pink box is holding her hostage. Those rubber bands on her head just look like loose wiring.
So sad. Fashion shouldn’t be this stressful.   Yes to the color, and the shoes. No to everything else.

    • joe_tey83

      Cute dress.

The really sad thing is not that there are noodles on her head, but that the noodles seem be placed on her head so lovingly and carefully instead of haphazardly, as if it’s so very chic when it’s obviously anything but.

    • Vodeeodoe

That thing on her head is distracting and looks photoshopped. However, that shade of pink looks great on her.

    • http://www.facebook.com/fiddlecub Kevin VanOrd

Wearing an ill-fitting pink box is rarely adorable. Perhaps I am not seeing the appeal.

    • butterflysunita

I think that dress is adorable on her–the first shot, with the trees in the background, is especially appealing.  But then she ruins it with her orange halo/headgear.

    • Vodeeodoe

Eek! The Lanvin model is kind of scary looking. Lots of angles going on there…

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/R6OP6BTUBNAJOBIIACR5XZJ4IM Karen C

I too thought it was a photoshopped halo at first.  Yes, I should like my own halo headgear to entertain my friends.

    • Sophie Collier

Oh so very sad by the boxy big-booty skirts that I see popping up in various collections.  It’s not cute nor is it flattering.  Even with pin-thin thighs, you’re going to look wide-arsed.  Just stop.  Retire the boxy bell skirts along with the suddenly-hip boob boxes.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HIZ7S2FRLC52NXARXQ4ERHNOGE Liz

I thought that thing was photoshopped onto her head.

    • marilyn

Normally I criticize people for having faux tans, but in this case, a little might have gone a long way.  She is a very pale girl and that is a rather brief dress.  She looks fine, and I generally applaud her choices here.  I don’t even care about her headgear, because she is young, and was probably going for a halo type effect.  However, if she were to be perfect, I would suggest a little more color.  Either some faux tanning, or a trip to a sunny place.  My complaint is minor, however.  She is a beautiful girl.

    • lrhoff

Not loving this.  Of course, the head gear is ridiculous, and it wouldn’t have hurt her to wear some pearls or jewelry of some kind.  Geez.

    • http://twitter.com/caseyclough Casey Clough

At first, I thought you guys had digitally added a halo. WHAT IS ON THAT GIRL’S HEAD.

    • nannypoo

It appears to be inside-out. I hate the color. And the thing on her head is just silly.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Micaela-Cannon/1465504041 Micaela Cannon

The dress is cute, the shoes are servicable, the hair, make up and hair piece all need to be destroyed.

    • Nonnah

I’m not digging this dress and I thought her headgear looked like a halo.

    • Joanna Schuth

That head thing looks pastede on yey.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

She just looks like she’s freezing.  And what the HELL is up with the hair/headpiece thing?  It looks like it’s made of someone else’s hair all braided together.

    • MzzPants

Clearly, she locked her gay in the pantry.

    • http://twitter.com/bitterepiphany Kay

i totally thought that “thing” on her head was some sort of cartoon effect in the first image i saw, but it kept showing up!

    • http://twitter.com/TigerLaverada TigerLaverada

Looks like a halo collapsed on her head. Not crazy about the boxy stiff dress either. It looks a little like it’s inside out.

    • lifetime_student

This is the second dress with those inside out darts y’all have shown us and I am already sick of them. Other than that detail, I do like the dress, but I think the color is way too much for someone with such milky pale skin.

    • ccm800

      and comb your hair

    • butter nut

dear dakota, get that shit off your head. thx bai!

    • funkypeanut

She looks like she was attacked by a ball of yarn.

    • DCSheehan

Inside out seams? This is a thing now? Like the fashion of wearing pants halfway down asses, it must be tied to a stake and burned.

    • PeaceBang

I honestly thought you two had photoshopped a little messy halo on her for some reason. I remain utterly baffled by that thing.

    • http://twitter.com/ennisamy Amy Ennis

She’s so cute. You guys need to do an intervention NOW! Girl’s got no sense of style, but I think she will come into her own.

    • http://twitter.com/anacedillo Ana Ced

is that supposed to look like a halo?wtf

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=6837468 Kimberly Correll Massengill

I seriously thought TLo photoshopped that thing on her head.

    • HazellC

It looks like someone dropped spaghetti on her head. Wtf.

    • Judy_J

That thing on her head looks like it was photoshopped on (sloppily).  Seriously, what the hell is it?

    • CQAussie

Literally wearing a halo today I see.  I didn’t even see the dress cuz I was busy trying to figure what the hell that was on her head!

    • lordandtaylor

What a cutie! What is that thing on her head. I thought someone had scribbled on the photo.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Karen-Stephens-Bassett/1503492602 Karen Stephens Bassett

      Those shoes are hiddy.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

HAHAHA!  Dental headgear!  I thought, just based on the thumbnail and 1st pic, that someone had scratched a halo over her head! That dress does not fit her well. If this was in/out, I’d have to go out.

    • Beth G

It looks inside out, makes her look… chubby, and that thing on her head is just…. weird.  Bad.

    • ThaliaMenninger

Girl needs to do something with her hair. Limp and flyaway isn’t good on anybody, not even a Fanning.

    • Judih1

looks like the first dress I made in sewing class

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=583505025 Kelley Comfort

Why does she never wear make up? She’s so pale that she needs it! I’m not a fan of the weird headpiece, but the dress is cute. I usually hate Lanvin, but I’d wear this.
