Cover Girl: Emily Blunt for ELLE UK

Posted on April 02, 2012

Here’s a shot of mid-day Monday pretty to keep you going, darlings.

Emily Blunt covers the May 2012 issue of ELLE UK magazine photographed by Thomas Schenk and styled by Natalie Wansbrough-Jones.

If your day is already getting away from you, just lean back or put your arm over your head and give the world your best Emily Blunt-style bitchface. It’s remarkably calming.

It looks pretty.  But why is she so pixilated (?) on the cover shot? - the dress, the hair, the skin.  Like she didn’t come through the transporter all the way…

    • kimmeister

Ha!  Somewhere else in the universe, there is a blob of stray Emily Blunt molecules.

      • serenitynow02

Obviously, Scotty was not in charge of beaming her up. He would have done a much better job.

Maybe losing molecules is part of the “body bootcamp” plan.

    • sid123

haha love it! “…..like she didn’t come through the transporter all the way”  great analogy!

  • MilaXX

Her head looks odd, like it was cur and paste photo shopped on.

    • P M

       It probably was.

    • JosephLamour

Does anyone else get “ice skater” from the second shot?

  • http://needtherapy.tumblr.com/ skadi1

Cover looks out of focus, and the light could have been better in the second, but overall, girl has PRIMO face. Luv huh.

Why must she be so gorgeous & married to such a gorgeous man (John Krasinski). I am inordinately jealous of her.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Oh and don’t forget talented, on top of everything else.

  • joe_tey83

The cover looks like it was taken from behind and she twisted her neck 180 degrees.

    • Judy_J

      That’s exactly what I thought!

    • TheOriginalLulu

Yup, total head-on-backwards thing going on.
      Still, she’s gorgeous and awesome.

    • cucumberbatch

i thought the same thing– i think its the combination of the dress’ neckline and the fact that they airbrushed away her armpit

It looks to me like this is a photograph of the cover of Elle, rather than an actual electronic copy of the cover – hence the pixilation.  Just my opinion.

    • http://profiles.google.com/marteani Barbara Guttman

The problem is that Emily is the only thing that’s pixelated.  The fonts are crisp, which means whoever dropped in Emily dropped the ball.

      • j_anson

Damn, you’re right. She IS pixelated. You can really see it in her arm in the E. Hope that didn’t actually hit the stands like that, or I fear for someone’s job. :

  • giiiirrrr

I just love to look at her.  That is a gorgeous woman.

  • Judy_J

Something about that cover shot makes her look like she’s got her head on backwards.  Maybe it’s the neckline of that dress or the awkward angle of her head and arm.  Whatever it is, it’s freaking me out.

‘If your day is already getting away from you, just lean back or put your
arm over your head and give the world your best Emily Blunt-style
    bitchface. It’s remarkably calming.’

That just saved me lol.  I literally just stepped out of a brutal meeting having to take the heat and responsibility for someone else’s decisions with a big smile on my face.  Of course as soon as I got back to my desk I went straight to TLO without even realizing it and here was this marvelous bit of wisdom that saved me from an afternoon of emotional cookie eating.  *Bitchface*

  • alyce1213

Great post.  Sometimes, I get annoyed with too-frequent appearances of the same person (oh no, not Rihanna AGAIN), but Emily Blunt — any time.

  • http://profiles.google.com/marteani Barbara Guttman

Fire the cover designer.  Just fire them.  She’s got artifacts on her arm interfering with the type faces (which is crisp while her entire body is pixelated), and it’s layed out poorly enough that in places the writing is difficult to read.  This is hack work, no one who works on design should have to have this stuff told to them for a cover on the stands. This better be a mock up, and even then this is a really shitty mock up.

    • Pants_are_a_must

I would also argue that this is a really bad shot to choose for the cover as well.

  • reebism

This cover is a Photoshop of Horrors Hall of Fame.

She looks like the Princess from the Oz books who changed heads instead of changing clothes — the angle of Blunt’s head on her neck, plus the weird left arm and neck, makes her look like she’s pushing the head down onto the neck.

    Blunt deserves better.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

I always loved that princess, but because I took her situation literally I was a bit confused. Why didn’t she bleed to death?

    • ballerinawithagun

Yes, the angle of the neck is the most bothersome. I don’t think anyone’s neck surves that way.

  • Jecca2244

I wish Euro mags were cheaper here! I tend to prefer them. She is pretty darn gorge.

  • granddelusion

Wow, those shoes could do some damage!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3AJ237ND3GAHDQJZ4TLCO4WLRA Emily

love it.  and may incorporate bitchface pose into my repertoire permanently.  thanks!

  • j_anson

I really like Emily Blunt, but both of these photos look really awkward. Particularly the cover shot, which somehow looks like they’ve photographed her back, but with her head rotated 180 degrees.

    • Linderella

That is exactly what I thought!  It’s like Exorcist realness.

  • holdmewhileimnaked

i wonder if they have her lying down in those shoes cos she cant stand up in them.

  • http://twitter.com/lenabena_ Elena

I have an irrational disdain for her, so I can never find her pretty in her pictures.

  • PeaceBang

Can someone explain something to me? I noticed this while watching the documentary about Anna Wintour (“The September Issue”) and again just now watching the little Elle video: why do so many super high-up women in the fashion world go around without a stitch of make-up and with horrible hair? They’re almost all stick thin and carrying $3,000 bags and slouching around in $1500 skinny jeans, but they don’t get manicures and they don’t wear any make-up. I see this blotchy face and dark circles under the eyes and I not understandings. Do they run out of money when it gets to their face or something?

    • formerlyAnon

My entirely personal theory is that because they work in such an appearance focused industry, some revert to a bi-modal existence: Full-on face (which may take hours or days of prep work and involves favors from friends or the services of paid professionals) and “I’m pushing 40 & working on the third day of 5 hours of sleep – I’m going to look like shit next to the young’uns anyway. F*ck it.”

  • carolynmo

She looks great here. We just got back from seeing Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, and she’s lovely throughout.

  • tired_mommy

LOVE the Mary Jane wedges…sigh, they will never be mine :(

  • Susan Walker

    She is so pretty.

When are the shoes goging to stop being so weird?

  • aristida_girl

I need to learn to bitchface, maybe I need more Emily blunt in my life   : )

  • RzYoung

i love emilyl blunt and i love the looks in this. It’s really interesting to see the videos from the shoots, i never usually watch them. i notice that for the cover it looks like they’ve slimmed her arms now, in the vid they look pretty muscly, it’s such a shame they change so much with photoshop

  • nancylee61

I wish these women would close their mouths – that open mouth look makes them all appear to be completely vacuous. Ugh.

  • DeTrop

What chance do any of us ‘real women’ have?  Men (and we girls) are exposed to airbrushed, photoshopped, and constantly primped photos of these high-profile lovelies.  The reality is, there is no reality.  It’s all showbiz.  Smoke and mirrors.  It’s not much better for men i.e. John Hamm, George Clooney, Patrick Wilson.  Not that the average man gives a rat’s patooty.  Isn’t it time we retired the Tee Shirt????  Just asking.  Anyhow, Emily Blunt is a beauty but let’s never forget that makeup and hair are the great equalizers.  Who among us would not look fabulous with all that professional attention.   (We could knock them dead at Wal-Marts).

  • glennethph

I love that she is married to John Krasinski. Awww.

  • Allison Woods

Go see her in Salmon Fishing in the Yemen.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1523970099 Ana Cedillo

she looks really great in pictures and clothes, which is weird because she doesnt necessarily have a modelesque body, but she looks amazing!
