WERQ: Cobie Smulders in Dolce & Gabbana

Posted on March 20, 2012

Cobie provides a perfect demonstration of the WERQ philosophy. The Way of the WERQ, if you will.

Cobie Smulders attends the premiere of “American Reunion” in LA in a Dolce & Gabbana dress.

Because a lesser gal would’ve taken the opportunity of an American Pie sequel premiere to just throw on something short and sparkly and be done with it, but a gal who really knows how to WERQ shows up like she’s there to receive an award. We don’t love that matchy Trapper Keeper of a purse, but you are WERQing the shit out of that gorgeous dress, girl. Snaps up!

And oh my Oprah, is she giving FACE!

      • JosephLamour

        She’s definitely a smize professional.

    • suzanne77

It is amazing how well she is werqing that print too. It seems like it would be hard to pull off.

      Hair LOVE!

      • ballerinawithagun

Agree, her hair looks fabulous rather than that straight, depressing look they’ve been doing on “How I Met Your Mother” lately.

      • charlotte

         Dress LOVE!

I love that dress. Why wasn’t it offered to Julianne Moore instead of some of her usual monstrosities? But Cobie makes it look so good it pretty much has to be retired now.

      • http://www.facebook.com/charlotte.horseman Charlotte Horseman

Moore COULD look beautiful in the dress, but she’d do something awful to it.  Raise the hem to expose her ankles and wear huge moon boots or something…

    • http://twitter.com/SarahVotes Sarah Bailey

Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her look so great. The hair is gorgeous.

    • http://twitter.com/bredalot Bridget Smith

Yay, I <3 her! She's so good on How I Met Your Mother – I hope she's great in The Avengers. And she's smart to dress so well in advance of it, considering that she's the least famous person in it and has a relatively minor role. I hope this means we'll get lots of great dresses from her this summer, especially as she's fond of color (and looks smashing in it).

Psst: there's no L in her first name.

    • Anathema_Device

Yes, she looks fantastic. Great hair, statement earrings that manage to not fight with the dress, fantastic print dress, neckline interesting enough to not need a necklace. WERQ it!

Agree with you on the purse. Yellow would have been great, or even black.

    • nancylee61

Love the dress, it is absolutely gorgeous!! I also love her hair and make-up. Really gorgeous, all around!!! WERQ, indeed!!!

    • Kristy Evans

She is smizing like a pro. Miss Tyra would be so proud.

    • http://twitter.com/arodenha Alli

“The Way of the WERQ” will be the title of TLo’s book, right?

    • CQAussie

Loving it!  Way to go Robin!  heh

    • Snailstsichr

I love her lip color with that dress.

    • Wrenaria

      Lovely. Adore her hair here.

    • sagecreek

Oh, I love this look! Even the trapper keeper!

    • Pants_are_a_must

She looks way better than all the other women there, and she’s not even in the movie. WERQ that pre-Avengers publicity opportunity!

    • http://www.facebook.com/charlotte.horseman Charlotte Horseman

Oh wow!  I really love this!  She looks totally confident – that sells it for sure!  I love how this dress flatters her figure.  The color of her dress and the tone of her hair and make up are in sync.  Yay for letting natural beauty show through!

    • SpcilK

Her hair and make up look great! She is very pretty, but this dress is not working for me. The draping, asymmetric construction, and diagonal peplum lends itself to very slender body types.

    • Kimmu

That does seem like the right amount of WERQ one needs, a certain “I will rip your balls off and give them to Ms. Marvel to wear as earrings” look, to be Maria Hill, even if I wished they had actually kept her hair short for the movie.

    • Kayceed

She looks cool as a cucumber. Werq, indeed. Also, that draped bateau neckline is super flattering – but you hardly see it anymore.

    • howdoilook

Scherbatsky in the HOUSE!! That’s my girl. <3

    • Linzenberg

Plus, she’s standing in such a way to work with the pleating around her pelvis. She looks like an ancient Greek statue, all lovely organic curves. I love when stars clearly practice on front of the mirror before heading out the door.

      • http://www.facebook.com/charlotte.horseman Charlotte Horseman

Yes, “greek statue”!  Perfect description, thanks.

    • kimmeister

I guess I’m in the minority for not loving the hair – looks strangely flat in front.  Love the neckline but not the diagonal ruffle across the hip.

    • jw_ny

I never knew her IRL name, but have been a fairly regular viewer of How I Met Your Mother.

Cobie looks great here.  It looks easy and relaxed…yet obviously well thought out and put together.  Love the flowy print gown, and her hair and makeup are beautiful.  Ditch the purse.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Actually I kinda like the trapper keeper.  Love the color of it.  Cobie looks amazing.  That is not an easy dress to pull off, what with the print and the ruffles and the asymetrical seams and the cowl neck.  She’s doing it.  Love the hair, too.

    • muzan-e

      Cobie Smoulders.

WERQ indeed. I find that dress rather sad but she looks wonderful.

    • http://profiles.google.com/valencia.lucia87 Lucía Valencia

OMG She’s so gorgeous I’m gonna cry.

    • Lilithcat

She chose that dress to match the backdrop, right?

The dress really is beautiful, and so is she, but I do wish she had combed her hair.

    • Rebecca Johnson

I think she looks great. I love, in the first photo, how you can see this big brouhaha is being staged a few feet from a Baja Fresh. Seeing behind the Hollywood curtain is always fun.

      • http://www.GiftedCollector.com Nancy Abrams

I don’t remember ever seeing a Hollywood premier in a food court.

    • Sobaika Mirza

I don’t know what it is about her, but I never recognize this girl on the red carpet. Keep in mind I am a big HIMYM fan.

    • rawrgrowlrawr

Looking classy at the premiere of a classless movie. She looks stunning.

    • http://twitter.com/democracydiva Democracy Diva

I love Cobie, and she’s never looked this good on the red carpet before. Nothing better than an actress from one of your favorite sitcoms turning into a red carpet starlet!

    • NurseEllen

When you write the “TLO Guide to Fashion” you can include this in the WERQ chapter.  She looks good, she knows it, she shows it.  Rock on, Cobie!

    • ChaquitaPhilly

You are so right! And so is She!

    • http://twitter.com/lenabena_ Elena

Yay! Love her. It’s rare that she’s out on the red carpet, so I’m glad when she does come out, she werqs it.

    • unbornfawn

      Lovely.

    • http://victoriapavlova.com Victoria Pavlova

      She’s so, so PRETTY…

    • beebee10

i don’t know who she is but WERQ!

    • GorgeousThings

      Who?

      Whatever – love the dress.

    • aimee_parrott

Wow — she looks fabulous!  WERQ indeed.

    • http://twitter.com/marriedkuntz treat yo self

      stunning as always

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

      Yay! WERQ it, Robin Scherbatsky!

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Fabulous AND appropriate for the season. She’s such a cute girl, wouldn’t mind seeing more of her and less of some of those other minor, TV types. I even like the bag. Just perfect.

I agree with Alli that ‘Way of the WERQ’ should be in the ‘consider’ pile for a TLo book title.

    • alyce1213

Perfect. And the nicest thing is she makes it look easy.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

Like her, hate her terribad sitcom. I hope she’s in something I can bear to watch soon.

    • Susan Sontag

      Sorry, that’s an ugly print.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Julie-Chase/731391326 Julie Chase

I love her so much on HIMYM-anyone who makes sleep eating ribs look good can pull off a funky print.

    • http://twitter.com/myblackfriend myblackfriendsays

Up until this point, I’ve always thought her name was Colbie.

    • http://twitter.com/wonderdivaEtsy wonderdivaEtsy

I think she’s one of the few people who could pull off that hair and dress and make it seem fabulous.  WERQ, indeed!

    • SapphoPoet

      Trapper Keeper. Heh.

    • librarygrrl64

Fresh, feminine, and subtly sexy. Good on ya, Robin Sparkles!

    • formerlyAnon

I really like her hair. And the dress looks great when it could so easily have gone the other direction (IMO). So she deserves her WERQ!

    • cleep1000

The purse is ruining it for me. I don’t think the straggly hair does a thing for her beautiful face. I hope she’s growing it out.

    • MilaXX

Like the shape and hair/makeup, but I don’t like the floral pattern and the clutch is too big and matchy macthy

    • Lisa

Heeeeey, I like the Trapper Keeper clutch, you boys you!  And that is a great dress – the hair and makeup work too!  WERQ!

    • gubblebumm

What purse would the fashion godlettes suggest then> it would help us cranky minions if we knew what was be the “right” purse to carry

    • Lilyana_F

She looks fantastic! Well done, girl!

    • butterflysunita

I love that dress, and she looks so beautiful in it.

    • amywinns

Lovely! I am glad she went low key on the makeup, hair and accessories, letting them be supporters to the dress doing most (though not all!) of the work.

    • http://www.facebook.com/kung.pu.5 Kung Pu

What an unattractive dress! But I do see its merits.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=790818401 Laurie Landry

That neckline is begging for some jewelry.
