Nicole Richie’s Cat Eyes

Posted on March 14, 2012

Nicole just finished eating some french fries, it seems.

Nichole Richie makes an appearance on the “Today Show” to promote her new show “Fashion Star.”

Because girlfriend seriously needed to wipe those shades down before putting them on in front of photographers. We sympathize, sweetie. Tom can’t seem to go more than 5 minutes without smudging his lenses and more than once a day you’ll hear him mutter in frustration as he’s furiously wiping them off “But I haven’t even touched the goddamn things!”

House of Harlow 1960 ‘Chelsea’ Cat’s Eye Sunglasses

But that’s just a distraction from our main point: These are the most fabulous shades we’ve seen in ages. We almost want them for ourselves, but we know we couldn’t possibly make them work. And if we can figure that out, then Nicole should be able to as well. They don’t suit her face at all. She’s too thin and angular for big shades like these. Now Christina Hendricks? We’d pay her 50 dollars just to wear these once on the red carpet.

So, darlings. Our question is simple:

House of Harlow Cat-Eye Sunglasses: YEA or NAY?

We are so all about the YEA on this one.

Yea! And I think I could rock them. And there is very little I can rock!

      • Jill_3

Me too! They’d look good on me! I want I want I want.

    • alyce1213

Yea, on her face, but not mine.
Yea for her whole look, as well.  I have jacket envy.

      • Bridget Smith

Right? Her whole outfit is fantastic.

    • brookeinmn

Did anyone else find it completely ironic that *she* was the once pushing the Suave Keratin products on the show last night. Her hair has never looked good. It always looks completely over-processed and scraggly.

      • formerlyAnon

Those commercials irritated me no end. While there *MAY* be rich, female, celebrities who use just any cheap-o grocery store shampoo, I’m sure Nicole Richie isn’t one of them – she’s never had effortlessly great hair and I’m sure she (or someone on her behalf) has put great effort into figuring out how to take care of it.

        • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Right?  It looks so incredibly fried in the pictures above.  Her hair is NOT her “crowning glory”, that’s for sure!

    • lucyloo222

Those glasses are awesome but 5 times too big for her face.  They’d look cute on her if they were smaller.  *I*, however, would look smashing in those glasses.  I demand a pair immediately.

    • mommyca

      YEA, but not on her….
but a big NAY to her wrinkly miniskirt…. not good…. it looks so cheap!

    • BazoDee

    • sachiwilson

I could have sworn that in that first pic Richie was handcuffed to the guy next to her.

    • Judy S

Nay on her face, not sure about Hendricks.

    • harleydear

Yea! Although now I wonder if I could pull them off or not. I want to, but wishing won’t necessarily make it so.

    • Jasmine Moten

They’re cute, but not my style. I’m all for some badass aviators.

      • How to Faint

It’s so weird to see aviators so popular now when just a few years ago they were mostly associated with pedos and assorted creeps. I still can’t shake the association.

    • Amelia Logan

      yea, on my face

    • DeborahLipp

    • AlexisPayne

Yea! I’m ready to buy them today

    • Gayer Than Thou

I think they’re just a smidge too big for her head, but I still give them an IN.

    • jw_ny

Nay!  I’m not sure I’ve ever more strongly disagreed with TLo than now with regards to these sunglasses.  I think they’re hideous. Only biker chicks should consider wearing these..for protection, and even then, there are better options available.

oh well, to each their own…it’d be a boring world if we were all the same. ;)

      • Ms_Flyover

Not loving them either.  Can’t fathom them looking good on anyone.

    • Sara__B

Can we talk about the jacket instead? THAT I like! (The sunglasses are very campy Cat Woman from the late 1960s, but if you say they’re fabulous, T Lo, I believe you.)

      • JMB_edits

Ha-ha!  My first thought looking at her was “Batman Villaness”!

    • tween00

I want to write “Happy New Year” over the top of those glasses! A bit clownish for my taste.

    • Terence Ng

I feel like Japanese pop stars have been rocking these shades for a long time. Like, Ayumi Hamasaki, maybe? But, it could just be that her fried blond hair color is making me THINK of a lot of Japanese pop singers and her sunglasses are just getting mixed in with the memory…

    • fridacormorant

Yay!  Like any stylish accessory, it has to fit the wearer, but these are fun.

    • snarkykitten

her whole outfit is fug. She supposedly has a fashion show?

    • schadenfreudelicious

yea, but not on her, they are ridiculously large for her teenytinyness….she looks like an alien/bug

    • shirab

House of Harlow is her design label, right? Did she design them, do you suppose?

    • Sobaika Mirza

Isn’t House of Harlow 1960 her company? She’s probably wearing them to show off her wares rather than suit her face shape.

    • ChaquitaPhilly

      On her it looks good!

    • RebeccaKW

      Yea.  I want.  So much.

    • MilaXX

YEA, in fact I need to order a pair for the summer. I sympathize with Tom. I have to keep those glasses cloths in every bag I own.

      • Elizabeth Norris

My relationship with my own glasses is so much like Tom’s that it’s eerie. I just don’t understand how they get so spotty. HOW?!?

      • kentiesgirl

I do as well. It’s one of those little things in life that seems too exist only to make you become slightly unhinged.

    • Lisa Weaver

LOVE the sunglasses, but they make her look very insecty

    • Bethany Roullett

Yea!  I’ll take a pair too, while we’re at it.  I mean as a gift though, there’s no way I can afford them right now.

    • judybrowni

I havea teeny tiny face and overly big sunglasses are too bug eye for me, but I can rock a smaller cat’s eye.

So I look forward to the style comeing down in price and size in the knockoffs.

    • Beardslee

    • CPK1

yea! what is the best face shape for these?

    • sleah_in_norcal

did anyone else look at that first photo and see a perp walk, with her handcuffed to a detective?  or am i reading too much true crime?

    • Joyce VG

YEA! I want a pair just cuz.

    • greatscoutm

    • serenitynow02

Nay, though I suppose they could double as a windshield for your face. Actually, if they came with tiny wipers, she wouldn’t have to worry about the smudging.

    • Amanda

    • Judy_J

I love them; I couldn’t wear them, but I love them just the same.  I’m a notorious sunglasses junkie.

    • NurseEllen

I’m glad this is just about the shades because I think the rest of her looks pretty unattractive.  Cat Eye Sunglasses?  Oh, YES.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

Yea, I have big ol’ apple cheeks and a suspicion that I could rock these.

Nicole Richie is looking like a different person lately, and a chic one at that.

    • holdmewhileimnaked

very nice, the tortie ones are maybe even nicer.

    • Cathy S

Those are fabulous. I couldn’t wear them and I usually hate oversized sunglasses but those really rock.

    • miagain

      not a big fan…

    • crash1212

YEA! Also, damn cute little outfit Ms. Richie is sportin’ there.

    • Tadiana Walton Jones

I would never have looked twice at these in the stores (you know, the places where they sell the cheaper knock-offs) but now that T and Lo say they’re cool, I’ll try them on.  So my YEA is for TLo, not necessarily the sunglasses. :)

    • Michelle Argento

      She looks adorable. YAY

    • Kerry McCombs

      Love them. Yea. WANT.

    • Anne

      I think I want them.

    • Eclectic Mayhem

    • Jessica TallGirl Freeman

NAY. They are too big for her face.  I thought only the Kardahsians were still wearing this trend.

    • S. Jenna Lutz

On her – out. She is just too small, they end up looking like they have been placed on one of those wig stands that is more insect then human like in shape/size. On CH? On on on and I’ll toss a $10 into the pot to get them on her on the redcarpet.

    • formerlyAnon

An unenthused yea because I don’t know if there are many who’d look good and not ‘costumey’ in them.

    • suzq

Those glasses would cover up even Martin Scorcese’s eyebrows!

      Too big 4 me.

    • altalinda

Yea!  Though they wouldn’t suit me.

    •árez/100002964685796 Josefina Madariaga Suárez

Hell YEAH! Those glasses are amazing!

    • ballerinawithagun

    • TheOriginalLulu

      YEA. They’re so very cool.
My mother is the same as Tom. Her shades and regular glasses are ALWAYS smudged. I don’t know how she can see through them.
I taught her that you need to wash them with hot water and dishwashing detergent, but she never does it.

    • TheOtherChristina

House of Harlow accessories get a YEA across the board from me. Those particular glasses aren’t my favorite, but they’re still cute and — even if they would look much better on Christina Hendricks (good call!) — I think Nicole is pulling them off.

    • TheDivineMissAnn

Ugh!  The big 1980’s glasses are back.  Rats!

The only woman who looked good in those glasses was Jackie O.  She OWNED ‘em.

    • Lola67

Yea. I would wear them and feel fabulous.

    • marywv

NAY. Trying too hard. But that’s how I feel about pretty much everything Nichole Richie does, tries, or wears. She’s just seems elementary. And what’s so great about her sense of style – besides her stylist.

    • ri_dic

      Total yea.

    • skadi1

huge copious amounts of yay. although i could never wear them. but a girl can dream, right?

    • aristida_girl

Yea! I totally want them, I love me some big shades…

    • Mary Nease

Those are awesome. Couldn’t wear them, though, unless they were available in prescription (I have contacts, but more often than not, I’m wearing my glasses). I have a totally fabu pair of black and white Ray Bans, though, that were 50% off at Lenscrafters. Best glasses purchase I’ve ever made and the best thing is that Ray Bans never really go out of style. When my prescription changes, I can replace the lenses. That’s my big problem with buying such fabulously stylized glasses like these, prescription or not- they’re expensive and so different that I can’t see them consistently staying current and stylish. I just can’t dish out that kind of money for stuff that I couldn’t wear all the time for years to come without looking like a total weirdo. I can’t see that ever being a problem with my Ray Bans. If I ever spring for an expensive pair of non-prescription sunglasses, it will most likely be for another pair of Ray Bans in a different color. Or maybe the Toms Ray Ban lookalikes, because they’re cheaper, still quality, and contribute to a good cause.

    • Meg P. W.

Did anyone else need to wipe down their glasses after reading this? ;)

    • ccm800

hell Yea! I wish she would get her hair in order…someone done her wrong in the chair.

    • howdoilook

      YEA for days.

    • Elena

Yea! I love cat eye glasses at the moment.

    • JillK

      Nay. They’re hideous.

    • S R

      YEA. Hot.

    • RedRaven617

Love them. Where can I get them?

    • Call me Bee

Ick.  They are so big and give her  bug-eyes, not cat-eyes.  I say nay nay.

    • Jonika Tannous

    • lalahartma

    • Pop Tarts Jen

Yea! Especially if I get to wear them!!!!!

    • Liana Brooks

    • lucasuk82

Yea!  They’re like fake eyelashes without the glue and pinkeye.

    • nannypoo

I would not wear these ridiculous glasses on a bet. They look like a bad joke.

    • Sally Brownson

GIMME! I have the face for them, now if I only had the money…

    • warontara

YEA!!! Hoping my almost perfectly round face can pull these off…..but not holding my breath.

    • Nibbles42

Naaaay, too big and goofy looking.  Do not want.

    • Jessica Charlotte Siewierkiewi

    • foodycatAlicia

      YEA. And Yay! Catseyes!

    • Fatima Siddique

Nay. I think they’re silly looking

    • mjude

    • kentiesgirl

Yea. I have been in love with that look since I was a wee miss and have a literally insane amount of cat’s eye sunglasses in a ton of different colors and patterns (tortoiseshell and white being my fav). So it’s an almost automatic on that. They’d have to be ass-ugly for me not to love them. One of those things you figure out works for you and stick with it.

    • librarygrrl64

      YEA. But not for her.

    • ThaliaMenninger

      “YEA. But not for her.”

I want to say what she said.

    • BayTampaBay

Shades out!  However, the dress and leather jacket is a big fat IN!

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

    • Ana Rocadas

YEA!! And I’d love to just try them on!

    • Stubenville

Uh, no; sunglasses should not be so large that they qualify for their own zip code.

(And why does her hair look like overprocessed straw?)

    • Jane Dough

      Like she eats french fries.

    • Lisa

LOVE them!  So they need to be wiped down, yeah.  Everyone’s does.  I can’t keep my sunglasses clean for two seconds.
