Miu Miu Ladies

Posted on March 08, 2012

Darlings, pretty little ladystars all in a row attended the Miu Miu Fall 2012 show wearing pretty little ladycoats and ladyshoes, with one notable exception.

Let’s judge them.

Kate Mara

Oh, honey. This is why every star should have a minion. It looks like you needed to do some arranging and zhuzhing of yourself before pictures should have been allowed. This is when someone large comes in handy, because they can block the cameras while you make sure your panties aren’t showing and your coat isn’t bunched up. To be fair, that coat’s got a pretty funky shape all on its own.

Also, the salmon clutch and neon pink shoes wound us.

Katy Perry

These would be the exception to the pretty little ladyshoes parade. Not that they’re somehow unpretty or unfeminine, just that they’re fierce as shit.  We just wish they went with her outfit a little better. Then again, maybe she needed flaming heels to counter the overwhelming Easter basket vibe going on up top. Either way, we think we can all agree that her purse is both fabulous and a hell of a weapon.

Mia Wasikowska

A fully buttoned coat and semi-matching purse. How very Audrey.

Michelle Dockery

Why, Lady Mary! Don’t you look chic and modern! We’re not entirely on board with the shoe choice, dear, but we do love that purse. The coat is gorgeous but the sleeves are just a skosh too short for her.

I would like to have both Katy Perry’s and Michelle Dockery’s purses, yes please, and thank you.

  • annie_wonder

Michele Dockery is just perfect to me, I’m definitely getting a new lady crush (on a Lady in fact, how apt!).

    • AudreysMom

I watched this 2007 film on Netflix (Red Riding 1973) and surprise! there was Michelle D. Only she played a girl from the far opposite side of the tracks from DA, complete with working class accent. Not a huge part, but she sold it.

  • Scarlet39

Maybe I need another cup of coffee, but I’m kind of liking Kate Mara’s look.  I would have preferred if she had gone with neutral shoes, though.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

I like it, I just think her coat should have been buttoned for photos.

      • Cathy S

Yes! I would love to see how the coat looked buttoned. It had a nice shape.

  • Your title of this post prompted me to posit: If my internet gay uncles are looking for another show to fill the void of Glee, might I suggest Pretty Little Liars?  It does camp, gay and just freaking ridiculous SO WELL.  Seriously, it is one of the most well-written shows on TV.  Also, there is plenty of fashion to dissect and LOTS of cute boys/men/abs/straight up 90s floopy hair to ogle.  I know you guys can’t recap everything, but you should look into this show.  It is the opposite of what you’d expect on ABC Family.

  • I’m all about the Prada flames. Don’t know why: just am.

    • MilaXX

Love the shoe, just not with that outfit.

      • Oh, totally. Anymore, I like looking for the flames in fashion mags. It’s my little version of Where’s Waldo? Last year, it was “find-the-purple-orange-striped-Prada-dress”.

  • ‘Becca’lise Deveaux

Lady Mary! Damn I miss that show so much already.

    • dress_up_doll

I know! And she looks so lovely here. Seeing Lady Mary makes me sad and think of how empty my Sunday nights are without DA.

  • schadenfreudelicious

    Katy Perry’s hair wounds me….

    • TheDivineMissAnn

Yes!  Enough already Katy.  It’s turning into schtick.

      •  I would prefer your statement more, if it were written in the past tense.  This long ago turned into a schtick. YAWN.  The flame shoes?  ridiculous.

        • TheDivineMissAnn

Point taken.  How right you are.

        • Ms_Flyover

I love the flame shoes – in photos –  but they look like costume on anything other than a runway.

          •  Exactly my point.  Ludicrous in any real world situation, even on a pop artist who’s MO is looking cartoonish.

  • Jecca2244

Lady Mary can do no wrong! : ) Poor Mia looks tired.

  • That’s exactly what Lady Mary would wear in 2012. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing.

Mia looks like she’s wearing Queen Elizabeth’s castoffs (whatever, she’s so short that mini would be knee length on her anyway!).

I LOVE that Prada collection on Katy Perry. It’s not perfectly utilized there, but the collection as a whole is perfect for her.

  • Sorry I think they all look awful.  Either awful awful or boring awful.

  • Lizzyisi

    I <3 Mia Wasikowska.
Katy Perry is a hot mess. I don't usually find her style appealing, but it's rare that she goes out looking as though no-one put any real thought into what she is wearing or how she looks. Love the dress and the shoes could work with it, but not with that coat, not with that bag, not with those glasses. And really, that's the hair of an undergraduate who's rebelling for the first time and had to use her milk money to buy manic panic and stained her best friends kitchen when they got high and colored their hair. It's not the hair of a woman wearing Prada.

    • Yeah, I was about to post that her heart is clearly not in it.

    • Manic Panic! Love the reference.

Katy doesn’t even look like herself lately. Maybe my eyes are worse than usual, but I haven’t recognized her in the last few posts TLo have done. Anyway, I can’t get with the shoes. From the front view, they look like flats, which is strange, considering how high the heel is. Between that and the flames shooting out from everywhere, the rest of the look is unbalanced. I kind of hate the whole thing she has going on here.

  • Kayceed

I love that Katy Perry actually bedazzles her minions.

    • And gives them sunglasses to match hers.

  • filmcricket

I’m half wondering if Katy Perry’s root problem is due to the hair colour. I’m sure she’s not buying Manic Panic from the drugstore, but back in the day when my friends and I were, blue was the toughest shade to achieve. Even the girls with naturally blonde locks mostly looked over-chlorinated than actually blue. Maybe she has to bleach the shit out of her natural colour before the blue gets applied.

Anyway, I like her outfit the best, although I don’t care for the shoes. (I might like them better with an all-black, skinny-pant ensemble that just let the shoes shine.) I covet the super-cute red sling-backs behind her, though. And her minions appear to have some fun foot-wear, too – very Swingers.

    • She’s a natural brunette, right? She definitely has to bleach the shit out of her hair to get that color, or at least use a really high level of developer. Either that or she has one hell of a blue wig collection.

  • ChiliP

Katy Perry- Girl (feet) on Fire.

Can you tell I’m excited for The Hunger Games?

  • kingderella

i agree that dockerys sleeve length is a little off but i think they should be just a little *shorter*, so theyd me more clearly 3/4, and less “my arms are too long”

    • Ms_Flyover

I have the sneaking suspicion, considering her proportions (tall, long and skinny) that she has a hard time finding sleeves that are long enough on a regular basis.  Having said that, those are just a weird length, aren’t they?

      • mk3000

They are bracelet length sleeves. They are longer than three-quarter and shorter than full length sleeves. It’s a real thing. Apparently not well known.

        • Kayceed

And also a great excuse to buy longer-line gloves.

        • Corsetmaker

Big in the 50s and 60s. You get lots of vintage jackets with sleeves that length, and as Kayceed said below, meant for gloves.

        • Ms_Flyover

Definitely not a length I was aware of, so thanks for the info 🙂   I do have a co-worker who has a hard time finding sleeves that are long enough, and she has similar proportions to MD.

        • I thought that’s what they were. I love bracelet length sleeves, although they can be hard to pull off.

  • sarahofalessergod

Kate Mara needs to ask sister Rooney for a stylist recommendation or two.  Not that I’m suggesting she should become Audreybot 2.0 but she needs a helping hand.  All her looks usually have potential but never quite hit the mark.

  • The only person I know here is Katy Perry. I’m so out of the loop.

  • MilaXX

Kate Mara – The dress is a rumpled mess and I prefer the salmon in the bag over the neon pink of the shoe. However, this was an either or moment.
Katy Perry – I get that the shoes were to match the flames on the dress, but that yellow clashes badly with the baby pastels. Still the bag is most awesome.Mia Wasikowska – After the eye searing colors of the Kates, I’ll take this twee outfit any day.
    Michelle Dockery – Boring

    • Michelle Dockery can not be boring. She is the joy of my heart

  • I want Katy’s bag. Y’all can have all that other shit.  Because it is, shit.

    • kimmeister

Yes, Katy’s bag is the only thing that impresses me here.

  • I love Michelle Dockery’s bag as well. But I don’t want her to be at a mere fashion show: I want her to be on set making Season 3 of Downton Abbey! Get to work!

  • JulieTy

Please please please tell us who makes Lady Mary’s purse!??!??!

  • GorgeousThings

Forget Katy Perry’s shoes – I’m surprised you didn’t note the almost-matching shoes of the two guys behind her!

    • janetjb

Thank you for pointing that out!

  • Lilithcat

we think we can all agree that her purse is both fabulous and a hell of a weapon.

No, we can’t.  Weapon, yes.  Fabulous, no way.   The shoes are fun, but they need a completely different dress.

Don’t agree, either, that the sleeves on Michelle Dockery’s coat are too short.   That’s a three-quarter sleeve.

  • SewingSiren

They all look good, except Katy Perry’s shoes. They are very bad with what she has on or anything else. Stupid tacked on flame. Bad design.

  • aimee_parrott

I love Katy Perry’s bag, but the rest of her looks like the love-child of Nascar Barbie and a Care Bear.

  • Mariah J

Ugh Katy Perry looks HIDEOUS…the shoes look Halloween store cheap and nothing goes together or flatters her. The purse is nice though.

  • BeeBeauNYC

I do like how Katy Perry’s purse also functions as mace.

  • serenitynow02

I am not on board with Katy’s super-hero feet. They are silly, and not in a good way.

Mia’s channeling of Tricia Nixon is at a pretty high level here. It’s pretty, but it’s also a little freaky.

  • ballerinawithagun

I found it so strange that Prada is showing the ancient flames. That rockabilly/vintage auto flame has been around forever. Is she just discovering Americana?

  • DominoEstella

I love Katy’s dress, bag and shoes.. not the coat so much.  Would kill for those shoes.  I’m sure they will sell out.

  • janetjb

Everyone looks so demure. It’s my school girl fantasy of going to “the city”.

Katy Perry looks as if she’s had it, poor thing.

  • R. L.

I want to cry. I want Katy’s Perry’s bag so bad.

  • gubblebumm

the red shoes with the black toenails look like eyeballs!!!

  • Allyson Wells

I was hoping for more in terms of pretty ladyshoes… I’m not seeing them here. Can’t argue that those flames are fierce though!

Kate stole a bunch of accessories and is hiding them in her coat

Katy looks great, I don’t care. Bitch at least has fun with her fashion choices.

Mia looks chic, understated, and like she’s pushing 45.

Michelle’s outfit is so boring I can’t even muster up the strength to fini

  • VioletFlame

Forgot Katy Perry’s purse, The HEELS on those Flame Shoes are weapons. Having just read the Hunger games trilogy, I covet those shoes.

    • Qitkat

       Oooh, good call.

  • Pants_are_a_must

My disdain for Katy Perry and everything related to her continues. Why the hell would you need anything attention hogging more than those shoes? Ugh.

Mia Wasikowska and Lady Mary look lovely.

  • Qitkat

See, I think Kate Mara has been reading your blog, and chose the shoes/bag thusly. Now she will be wailing, *but, but, but, they’re NOT matchy-matchy!*

    • Heh. Poor Kate. She’s still trying to figure things out. At least she’s not looking like her insane ghost character on American Horror Story.

I like the salmon bag with the coat. It’s a great color combo. The pink shoes are what’s out of whack here. I do love them though.

  • Caaro3

Katy Perry, from the top of her azure head to the tip of her fiery toes, is always and utterly incomprehensible to me.  Most likely it is because I’m older than dirt.

    • Qitkat

I’m older than dirt too 😉 but I think she usually rocks it. This is an unfortunate group of choices made in the dark. All pieces great standing alone, just not together. I’m sure it’s a matter of taste, but I actually like her hair. If on Helen Mirren, not so much! Though it’s something I wouldn’t be surprised to see (in a film).

  • I think Michele’s sleeves are supposed to be that length. They look good to me. She does look quite chic – except for the shoes.

  • formerlyAnon

Ms. Mia W. takes it on consistency across judging criteria. Ms. Mara lost it on artistic impression points.

Ms. Perry wins in my heart for those shoes.

  • quiltrx

Gorgeous coats and purses on parade!  Mia wins this round.

So, do you guys think Cathy Cambridge being the Duchess of Awesome Coats is influencing the celebrities?

  • I’m not sure if I find Michelle Dockery’s lack of posing refreshing or not (heck, who isn’t tired of LeaMichelleFab posing?) but that second picture especially really looks like it was taken by a chum on the class trip to the museum.

  • CatherineRhodes

Kate Mara: LOVE the leather coat. Yes also on the salmon and neon accessories — unexpected and punchy.

Katie Perry: Those shoes are just plain dumb. IMHO they’re not fierce they’re costumey. I am so bored with her.

Mia Wasikowska: Digging the Audrey look and it seems to suit her. Agree that the shoes are a dull choice, but what really bugs is the hair. Can we get over that puffed at the top look? So unattractive.

Lady Mary: I like that sleeve length — isn’t that how they’re supposed to be, a 3/4 sleeve? It all works, and so glad to see classic purses coming back into style. There was a couple years there where all the bags were giant, gaudy and overembellished. So happy to see the return of Grace Kelly to the handbags dept.
