Girl, That’s Not Your Dress: Julianne Moore in Tom Ford

Posted on March 09, 2012

Miss Julianne is poledancing for her little Sarah Palin impersonation, giving us even more opportunities to remind her that she doesn’t know how to dress.

Julianne Moore attends the premiere of ‘Game Change’ in Washington, DC in a Tom Ford dress paired with a Judith Leiber clutch.

First, the good parts: color, although putting a redhead in a brilliant green is something of a cliche.

This concludes the “good parts” portion of our program.

We think this is a pretty fabulous dress, but like so many of the clothes she chooses, she just doesn’t seem capable of pulling it off. Everything always looks so … off. And it always does with her. We doubt very much she has a difficult body to dress and we don’t even think this dress is all that hard to pull off, but bless her, the lady simply can’t manage it. She’s so striking; we don’t know why she’s always picking showy pieces like this. Simple lines and toned-down colors (which we can’t believe we’re advocating for) would suit her so well and really show off her face and figure. With a look like this – and indeed, with almost everything she wears – it’s like you can barely see her face and body at all. All you see is DRESS. And then, SHOES. On the latter subject, metallic gold was a horrible choice here. She’s too pale for it. Darling, set this dress and these shoes free on the wind so they can land in Viola Davis’ backyard. They’re not the pieces for you.

  • She is so pretty, how come she never looks pretty? Can you do a “If We Were Her Gays” segment for her?

    • Lori

There seem to be some folks who just have a congenital inability to wear clothes properly (I assume they exist in opposition to models in order to keep the universe in balance) and I fear that Julianne is afflicted. I say that with love because I have a touch of it too, so I know her pain. “Effortless” is not in my vocabulary when it comes to clothes. Looking decent is always, always major work and even then the effect is not always what one would hope. I suspect the same is true for Julianne and she simply doesn’t realize it or knows it and has no interest in putting in the effort.

      • “There seem to be some folks who just have a congenital inability to wear clothes properly (I assume they exist in opposition to models in order to keep the universe in balance)”

That would be me – and it’s so good to know I’m keeping the universe in balance!!!

      • miagain

And yet she always looks impeccable in movies… playing a role seems to be the only way she can unleash her beauty.

        • Lori

When she’s in movies it’s someone’s job to put in the effort to make her look good and that someone is not her. ūüôā

          • Glammie

But she should have a stylist for this sort of thing. ¬†I remember reading that she had stylists because left to her own devices she’d show up in Birkenstocks. ¬†

I just remember Rachel Zoe shmoozing her doing the RZ Project–I wish Julianne would hire her. ¬†

        • The wardrobe she wore in “The Kids are Alright” was horrendous. I’ve never seen another movie wherein the star was dressed in such ugly outfits. She must have picked them out herself.

      • Louise Bryan

There seem to be some folks who just have a congenital inability to wear clothes properly

        Absolutely….and I am one of them….

    • TheOriginalLulu

Isn’t she though? She kind of makes me crazy, because she’s such a pretty woman, but when she dresses up she always manages to make herself look awful.

    • understateddiva

SECONDED! She needs the IWWHG treatment.

  • BrooklynBomber

Holy shit, that eye makeup! ¬†At first glance at the thumbnail I thought it was someone in her ’70s. ¬†I don’t even know what to say about the dress.

    • just say NO.¬†

      • BrooklynBomber

        Haha. Thank you, Nancy Reagan!

    • TheOriginalLulu

So true! Back in the days before plastic surgery became everyone’s solution¬†for everything, I knew several ahem, “older” ladies who seemed to¬†be trying to hide their wrinkles with heavy eye makeup.

  • serenitynow02

I am beginning to think that she is a vampire and therefore cannot see her image in a mirror. Honestly. It’s the only explanation that makes sense.

  • oh my. i want to cut the arms off that dress. hideous.

    • Jessi03

¬†I think if she’d cut the arms off and changed her hair and her shoes, it could look pretty!¬† So…if you change nearly the entire look, it works!

      • mshesterp

I like it but for the arms and the shoes, and unfortunately that’s ALL you see on the dress. The bones of it are good!

        • Harmony Scofield

Totally agree. If you ripped the sleeves off and traded out those horrible shoes for a
more strappy sandal (without the ankle strap, for god’s sake), I think this would be an IN. Or at least a candidate for IN or OUT and not a total fail.

    • Between the bullet shoulders and the poufiness of her hair, she looks exactly like a conehead. “Conehead” and “Julianne Moore” are not things I want to see in the same sentence, ever again. This just makes me sad.

  • someone with strong features needs to wear something soft and flowing. She has strong striking features. She needs a Nina Ricci dress.¬†

  • All I can think is Wizard of Oz. So damn strange.

    • twocee

¬†Yes!¬† Wicked Witch of the West.¬† I think it’s the arms.

    • norseofcourse

      Yep, straight outta Emerald City.

  • Oh no.¬† This is so terrible.¬† File in the “Worst Dressed of 2012” folder now…

  • moppet

Picture this dress sleeveless, or maybe with cap sleeves. It would look SO MUCH BETTER. When I look at her, I don’t see “DRESS!” as much as I see “CRAZYSLEEVES!”¬†

  • remove/replace the sleeves.¬†
    fit the dress better
    change out the shoes
add hosery!  freckles are not doing her any favors.

    • Adriana_Paula

Aw, I like her little freckled legs!

  • Anathema_Device

She needs to accept that her tastes don’t match her looks/figure/image. I wrote the same thing yesterday, and I doubt she’ll prove me wrong any time soon. And, damn, she has everything going for her: gorgeous face, coloring, body.

  • something about the form of the shoulders looks wonky–and cheap even.

  • ccm800

Didn’t she USED to be pretty put together a few years back? WTF happened?¬†

  • rketeckt

    Oh, honey…NO!

  • I LOVE those shoes, but you’re right, not with this outfit.¬† Her makeup looks good, too. ¬†

  • sarahofalessergod

I actually think the color is not working for her here. ¬†She looks like a St. Patrick’s Day decoration. ¬†If this were a rich red or even black, I think it’d be so much better.

    • kimmeister

That particular shade is doing terrible things to her skin color.  She looks consumptive.

  • I must say, the way the shoulders echo her hairdo shape is rather nice.

    In Opposite Land.

    • That is the funniest thing I’ve read/seen today! You are absolutely right.¬† Like little hills……

  • R. L.

It is a crime that a beautiful woman with so many resources can’t manage to dress well or hire someone to make her look good.¬† The only times she has looked good have been in very basic¬† but boring outfits.¬† She has potential she isn’t living up to and it is a shame.¬† I would echo Liana Brooks in saying she needs a “If We Were Her Gays” segment.

  • EEKstl

LOVE the dress AND the shoes (especially the shoes!) but they are NOT for Julianne.  She needs to start dressing more like Julianna Marguiles Рsimple, classic but with an edge.

  • Patricia Biswanger

    The make-up is ghoulish.

  • PeaceBang

That dress could be the basis for an awesome costume for a Disney villainess. Everything is wrong here but the shoes, and the hair and make-up add insult to injury.

  • Stefanos Mantyla

Can I change my vote on the last IN/OUT on Julianne to IN, please, just because that was so much better than this, and I think she could really use it?

Not sure why she is so challenged. She could really be up there with Evan Rachel Wood and Zoe Saldana, among others, if she could just grasp it! She is not your generic Hollywood character, and I have seen reason to like after seeing Crazy Stupid Love, which was much better than I ever expected it to be.

    • Crazy Stupid Love was pretty great. And seriously, she is so beautiful (she was so earthy-sexy in The Kids are All Right) that I just don’t understand how she gets it so wrong all the time. She’s scaring the children here.

  • Zippypie

She needs a gay intervention, stat! *shudder*

  • G

She made the “worst” list for 2011 in that Lanvin mess, and I do believe she is headed for the list this year.¬† What a pitiful look.

  • belfebe

I just don’t get it.¬† She’s the spokesperson for Talbot’s, and she always looks great in those ads.¬† Yet she’s always showing up with totally weird getups in the red carpet.¬† Whoever is styling her for Talbot’s should be styling her for the red carpet.¬† She definitely needs help.

    • MilaXX

I wish I could like this post a thousand times. The easy going look of Talbot is much more her speed than these fashion-y looks.

      • belfebe

Thank you. She’s such a beautiful woman. There is no reason for her to go out looking like that.

  • Is there some sort of Dinasty remake in the works and Julieanne is auditioning?

  • cleep1000

    Poor thing.

  • MarissaLG

You guys are right as usual- that’s not her dress. BUT I can’t WAIT to see that movie! Have you guys (I’m talking to my fellow kittens now) seen the trailer? It looks absolutely amazing!

    • amywinns

She is fabulous in it, though it’s basically two hours of hatin’ Palin. (With a few sympathetic moments thrown in.) That’s not to say I think it is a smear job. But it has a very strong point of view.

  • Shannon Maxham

Wow. Her hair matches her sleeve caps. How interesting.

  • filmcricket

She always picks dresses with hems that hit her right at the widest point of her calf, and it makes her look stumpy. She is very tiny, but she’s not stumpy, so what gives?

I honestly wonder if she isn’t one of those women who should try menswear on the RC. She doesn’t have Cate Blanchett’s or SWINTON’s long limbs, but she does have very striking features that aren’t too girly for menswear. Imagine a halter-type top in that green shade, with slim black pants, a great necklace (or serious chandelier earrings) and fierce-as-shit shoes? I think she could do it.

    • filmcricket

The other thing is that if you’re going to wear a statement-making dress like that, you have to own it. She just looks uncomfortable.

    • cluecat

She’s 51, so, not sure where her hemline could go except tea length, which kind of sucks on everyone. ¬†Mid knee is tricky because it can really fuck with proportions, and if she bares knee, the OMG SHE’S SO OLD COVER UP backlash would be unreal. ¬†She can’t really win. ¬†¬†

She also doesn’t seem to have much a natural waistline, so that’s difficult to work around too. ¬†Costume designers put her in separates and coats a lot. ¬†I agree that menswear would be great for her too. ¬†

      • filmcricket

Ehh, I don’t know. I agree that tea-length is hard for almost everyone, especially in formal-wear. (Someone upthread mentioned her photos for Talbot’s and I seem to recall at least a few decent tea-length dresses in that, but they wouldn’t be RC-appropriate.) I don’t think the backlash would be horrific if she went above the knee – she doesn’t have to wear a micro mini but even just an inch and a half off this dress would help. I mean, she was more than half-naked in those Bulgari ads a few years ago – did people complain?

You’re right about the separates, though; I hadn’t thought of that really and it’s a great solution.

      • Glammie

Right below the knee would work. ¬†She needs to have stuff tailored so it hits her right. ¬†She might be able to pull off ankle length in the right skirt, though a lot of them wouldn’t work. ¬†She doesn’t have much of a waist, but she has reasonably broad shoulders so that it can be faked. ¬†She looks good in clean lines that don’t overwhelm her. ¬†Separates are good on her–she wears blazers well.

  • lunulaoblongata

Don’t worry, that’s just her outfit for her walk on role during One Short Day. She’s so Ozmopolitan.

  • DeborahLipp

I think this dress could work if the hair and makeup weren’t a nightmare that I had once after bad fish.

    • Yes! I thought the dress was fine, it is just her entire head that needs a rethink. “Girl, that’s not your head.”

  • I don’t know – I would say this might be one of her better efforts if she didn’t try to match her hair to the shoulder treatments. I’m not saying it would be great, mind you, just that this has more shape then her usual choices and thus more potential.

  • rkdgal

Why do I have the weird feeling that she’ll look beautiful in the film, wearing all those expensive Palin suits?¬† How can anyone so gorge in real life not look fabulous on the RC?!¬† It’s a mystery…

  • Qitkat

Who cares if it’s a cliche? She looks fantastic in this color. And I like the dress. A lot. I just wish she would wear her hair down. Too severe is not her friend.

  • SewingSiren

I actually like the dress and shoes, but the hair and make-up (especially) are horrifying. She is so beautiful, here she looks like a monster.

  • Joyce VG

Why she looks this way in clothes is a mystery we must solve for the sake of humanity.

  • sashaychante

This is NOT her dress…but I don’t think this is anyone’s dress.¬† IMO…ugly and unflattering.

  • Scarlet39

All I can think of is Kermit the frog.

  • kcarb1025

This woman is NEVER wearing *her* dress.

    • Glammie

Yep, she’s too delicate and small for these big designer statements. ¬†She doesn’t own it or work it. ¬†She made a movie directed by Tom Ford, for pete’s sake, you’d think she’d have picked up a few tips.

  • MilaXX

I don’t get it. I just caught her appearance on Anderson Cooper’s talk show and once again she looked fine. Simple hair, clean makeup and clothes that look like they came out of her closet. Yet on the RC she continually looks a hot mess. I like the color of the dress and I could be convinced to like the shoe, although I agree the gold is not that great on her skin. I hate both the sleeves and the shape of the top half of that dress. The hair looks like she’s still in Sarah Palin drag. This sadly is not the worst she has looked, but I think she’s fair too pretty to consistently look¬† bad on the RC.

  • butterflysunita

Oh dear.  Why is such a beautiful woman doing this to herself?

  • That dress would five anyone fits.¬† Those crazy poofed up shoulder paddy sleeves…what is that?¬† Who could wear that and not look like and fashion forward elf trying to hard?

  • Kristinoten

DId anyone else catch her on The Daily Show earlier in the week?¬† She was just wearing a black dress, but it was so simple and she looked quite lovely.¬† I don’t understand why she looks so awkward in these red carpet looks.

    • halleygee

I saw her and thought the same thing.

    • filmcricket

¬†You may have hit upon it – perhaps formal just isn’t her thing. Maybe she needs to do what we mortals must: find a couple of LBDs and dress ’em up. Upside: when you’re Julianne Moore, you can do that with Cartier instead of sterling silver.

  • It’s like the weight of the sleeves are causing her to tip over a bit. Why in the world can’t this woman dress herself?! Or why doesn’t she get a decent stylist?!

  • LesYeuxHiboux

    I like her sleeves?

  • VermillionSky

Her posing is the opposite of fierce.  She would look so much better if she only posed better.  She needs some lessons from Tilda Swinton.

  • I want to yank the neckline for some reason. The plunge and the sag make me want to¬† fix it for her…it just doesn’t work for me.

  • altalinda

Holy Toledo!¬† Her sterum was also annoying me the other day on the Daily Show.¬† With a beautiful face and hair like that, you don’t need necklines that plunge to your navel, dear.

  • Also, I know hosiery is a no-no but she really needs it. Hell, most women over 40 do; I certainly can’t skip it without fake tans and long bike rides.

    • alyce1213

Why on earth is hosiery a no-no?
Hasn’t Kate Middleton changed all that? ¬†I’m seeing a lot more stockings now and I’m glad about it. ¬†Bare legs are fine for some looks, but totally inappropriate for others, like when you’re dressed up in the winter.

If the other options are fake tan (usually orange and well, fake-looking) or sun exposure (skin cancer), I’ll go for the stockings.

  • MissMariRose

She does this so often, this series should be named “The Julianne Moore ‘Girl, That’s Not Your Dress’ Award.”

    • amywinns

I hate to like this comment. (but i really like this comment!) So unfortunate!

  • Stephen Pischl

Speaking as one myself, pale, freckled redheads absolutely cannot, under any circumstances, wear any color that has a yellow undertone, at the risk of looking jaundiced.

Thus, as lovely as this yellow-toned spring green is, it is not for Julianne here.  A blue-based, emerald green would have been lovely.  This, however?  Abomination.
Generally, with rare exceptions, we also cannot wear gold jewelry, for the same reason. Not every redhead (bottle or otherwise) is a “pale, freckled redhead,”

    • alyce1213

Perfect assessment. ¬†(I’m also a redhead, and can’t wear certain yellows, greens, or anything mustard colored for the same reason)

Agree as well about the raccoon eyes — redheads just can’t do the dark smoky. ¬†

  • She has to stop torturing her hair in these looks. Like other Bitter Kittens, I saw her on the Daily Show and she looked so beautiful. Simply styled, hair down, etc. That look in a simple black dress with a nice accessory or two is all she needs.

  • Sara__B

    Cougar.¬† Trying ‘way too hard.

  • Question: who do you think would pull this dress off?

  • EditKitten

Anybody else get a vague whiff of Amber Waves here?

  • newleaf1

This poor woman.  Does her stylist hate her?  Just wrong, wrong, wrong.

  • MzzPants

At least today’s lip color ranges somewhere near humanoid.

  • amywinns

What did she DO to piss off the wielder of brushes and eyeliner?? whatever, s/he should be ashamed for doing this to such a lovely face.

  • TheOriginalLulu

The good news is that the color is fantastic on her. Cliche or no, the green-for-redheads thing just works, so there’s a reason why it’s a classic. Agreed about everything else, though. It’s really not her dress. Not her hairstyle either with that egghead shape.
I’m also concerned about the¬†eye makeup. WTF? That shit is entirely too heavy, to the point where we can’t even see how beautiful her eye color is. They’re seriously one¬†of her best features and she’s completely overwhelming them.

She makes me wish I were a stylist. I would absolutely give her a call and say¬†listen bitch. You need me. I’ll be right over.¬†

    • Adriana_Paula

I think you should do that anyway.

  • nancymae

Okay, she looked gorgeous on The Daily Show earlier this week so it is possible. Maybe she just really really really hates the RC and overcompensates. That said, I really like those shoes but that dress is scary.

  • brookeinmn

    Oh Dear Lord…she’s a hot mess.¬†

  • SheWhoMustBeObeyed

I think what bothers me is that she just doesn’t look comfortable. And well she shouldn’t. Like her gays told her, “This will look fierce on you!” and she said, “Uh, OK”¬† but didn’t really buy into it. Like she’d rather put on a nice flowy pantsuit or something. She just looks ill at ease.

  • Judih1

she sould hire the person who styled her for the Talbots and Bulgari ads. Best she has seen

  • halleygee

When I was 10 I was in a “Wizard of Oz” play, and I am sure my Emerald City costume was made out of both of those same materials! Yikes.

  • aimee_parrott

Euch.¬† I’m not sure even Miss Viola could pull this dress of.¬† The puffy sleeves?¬† Terrible.¬† Pleasepleaseplease take Liana’s suggestion below and do an “If We Were Here Gays” post for her.¬† She needs you!

  • ChaquitaPhilly

Can we see this as a cry for help?
    Please, someone, step forward.
    Stop the madness!

  • holdmewhileimnaked

what the hell w/ the camel humps? the boxtop–iffy though it was–was better than chartreuse dromedary.

  • Judy_J

She looks like a demented leprechaun.

  • B

It’s time to get harsh. I’m her sister in redheadedness, so it’s OK for me to do it. I’ve never found her that attractive. Her face is pretty harsh. She needs bangs, or her hair swept over her forehead as though she has them. Not everyone looks good with their hair skint back like that, and she is one of those people who does not. Also, ease up on the lashes, doll, you’re going a bit Tammy Faye, RIP. Ease up on the harsh. I’m pale like she is, and you have to not scrape everything back like that and stick it all out there. It does not work. Soften it up a little. Get some bangs, lighten up on the ‘scara, and try having sleeves the same fabric as your dress. It will be OK.

    • alyce1213

Another ginger weighing in here.  What you said:  yes yes yes.

May I add (especially since it’s winter): Bare,¬†freckled legs are cute sometimes, but¬†you’re a grown-up (50+), dressed-up woman — put on a nice pair of hosiery.

  • nannypoo

I’m sure Viola Davis has the good taste to not wear these shoes.

  • She looks like a corpse in that particular green, especially as it sets off her pallid sternum.¬† “We’re ready for your autopsy now Miss Moore.”

  • alyce1213

ABSOLUTELY HIDEOUS, from the hair bump down to her black-polished toenails.

    (And I love green)

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Those shoes are an abomination, well, at least on her.¬† And hose, Julianne, hose are your friends!¬† There isn’t anything about this look that is good.¬† She desperately needs a stylist!

  • Hate the dress. Really really hate it. I just don’t understand how such a beautiful woman could put this on, look in the mirror, and say, “Yes! That’s the ticket!”

  • dress_up_doll

The color is lovely, but it makes her decolletage look strange —- I just want to look away. And the sleeves…oy, the sleeves!

  • 3boysful

Notice how the head bump matches the shoulder bumps!  Coincidence?  I think not.

    Hiddy shoes.  On anyone.

Why does Julianne always wear stuff that makes her look huge?¬† Isn’t she pretty tiny in real life?

  • schadenfreudelicious

Dear Julianne, we ladies of a certain age look to you as our shining beacon of how to look fabulous in one’s fifties, full marks on face and figure…the rest is not doing the cause any favors dear…..

  • I feel like this is actually really close to working. Maybe if the shoulders were just a little bit smaller? And I actually love the shoes.

  • StillGary

she looked fabulous on John Stewart the other night! That shade must be the exception to the regheads in green rule — it make her skin look cadaverous. And that eye makeup aint helping!

  • The styling is all wrong – the dress and shoes are great, but hair and makeup so wrong.¬† It looked good in the thumbnail you posted, but then seeing it here – ugh. ¬†

  • Gosh and begorrah, that’s ugly.

  • AMartel

On her worst day Sarah Palin looks and dresses better than this pale imitation.

  • shamrock, pot-o-gold, something Irish – my brain can’t figure it out.

  • DinahR

Did St. Patty’s come early this year?? ¬† I have similar coloring as she and I never wear that shade of green. It might be pretty but let this ginger girl tell you, a gal is setting herself up for a night of Leprachaun and lassie jokes that never end in a dress like that. Been there.¬†

Besides when I looked at this picture my first thought was ‘Maybe Michelle Visage is right about green…’

  • As with the last outfit of hers, the only thing I like is the clutch. And this pains me because I LOVE HER. I think she is beautiful and talented and a fantastic example of a hard-working woman. Who can’t dress herself.

What is with her hairstyle strangely mimicking the puffed sleeves?

  • vmcdanie

She is one of my favorite actresses who, for the most part, has avoided schlock for 15 year running now. And she’s so pretty. That is one matronly, misshapen garment other than the cleavage area which is crying out for some foundation assistance.¬†

  • I want to retroactively give her an IN after all for the black and white outfit with the awful-pink lipstick. It was clearly as far as she can go in the right direction.

  • butter nut

  • kentiesgirl

Ya know, I would have flipped this for a vote with the last one as not your dress. The color is stunning, and she’s standing a little awkwardly, so maybe that’s why the fit seems off. I don’t like the velvet, but I like the draping and exaggerated shoulders and the clutch (I like her clutches, apparently) but think the shoes almost push her into christmas elf territory. I woulda given her a small in. I think she looks nice, and probably dazzling if I was standing in front of her (meaning no awkward posing, but just walking around in it).

  • Yeah, not good. It’s a case of the dress wearing her instead of her wearing the dress.

  • She looked great on The Daily Show, but she was wearing a simple jacket and white shirt, and had her hair down and tousled. So the boys speak the truth.

    • NasserShaheen

Didn’t she look stunning on the DS? She was stunning that night. This doesn’t even look like the same woman!

If you could just slice off the sleeves, wipe off last nights make up, give her some fresh make-up and a red lip, let the hair down and zhush it up with some waves, throw out those shoes and exchange them for some black pumps, chop 2 inches off the hem, pull the bust up a little and slap on a chic little bracelet, this would be a WERQ.

So basically, start over from square one except keep the color and the clutch.

  • NurseEllen

Jesus, she looks like one of the hairdressers who work on Dorothy when she visits the emerald city.¬† Here in the South, we would say, “Poor thing, she just doesn’t know how to dress, bless her heart.”

  • SapphoPoet

This is awful. I cannot believe that she put that on, looked in the mirror, and thought it looked good. She’s so striking–I’d love to see her dressed in something flattering.

  • TheOtherChristina

Better hair, makeup, and posture could have saved this look. She needed to MAKE this her dress.

  • Thathoodwink

Why is she not wearing stockings/pantyhose? I noticed this with her in another outfit. Am I being old-fashioned or did I miss some new fashion rule? It’s not as if it’s a hot sweltering summer day….

    • Sara__B

¬†You’re being old-fashioned. Many of us are hoping that the gorgeous Duchess of Cambridge will help pantyhose make a return on this side of the Atlantic, but until then, nothing says “frumpy” like sheer stockings.

      • R. L.

¬†How do most female celebrities make their legs look good?¬† Body makeup?¬† I’m curious not catty.

        • Sara__B

I’m guessing spray tans, tanning beds, natural tans (so many of them are in Southern California), or God-given even skin — but a lot of fair-skinned celebs have blotchy legs like us ordinary mortals and would benefit from elegant hosiery that matched their skin tones.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

It would seem that by virtue of the law of random occurrences that she would at some point luck into a great outfit.

    • Susan Crawford

Hilarious! And I LOVE your nom de commentariat, too.

  • bitterk

I mean really. Does she not have any gays she can call for help?

  • marywv

I do love the shoes, though.

  • Susan Crawford

Oh, dearie me. This is tragic. HOW can you not at least stand tall when you are wearing Tom Freakingtastic¬†Ford, for God’s sake? Especially this powerful design. You gotta WERQ it, Julianne, or a design like this is gonna swallow you whole . . . ant it did! Do you not realize that you can actually get a dress tailored to fit you perfectly? Well – you CAN! And do you know there are make-up and hair people who actually know how to make you look GOOD? Yes – there really are such beings!

Julianne – you are a brilliant actress, a gorgeous redheaded, womanly beauty. But get style help. Please!

  • Her makeup is too harsh.¬† Makes her look older.¬† And those poofy shoulders with that hair style make her look like something out of a Sci Fi movie…Not your dress Julianne, AT ALL…

    • The first thing I thought was,”AAAGHHH!¬† Giant grasshopper!”¬† Like a live action version of A Bug’s Life.¬† Or something from a SciFi movie.

  • portlandmermaid

She has an abundance of beauty and doesn’t need to prove a thing. Go soft and natural and we’ll applaud you for it.

  • margaret meyers

That’s not her hair, makeup or shoes, either.¬† This is Tom Ford.¬† There is so much wrong with that dress.¬† It isn’t just Miss Moore who is going to look thick-waisted, twig -armed, hump-backed and barrel-chested in this dress.

  • poggi

She and Ginnifer Goodwin need to start a support group of celebrities with incredibly bad fashion instincts.  They can have program where have to put back any piece of clothing they have even the slightest inclination to wear and call their sponsors who can talk them down and into something simple and flattering.

  • quiltrx

She’s such a beautiful woman, and such a talented actress.¬† It may sound silly, but I see her kind of as a person who is most beautiful in motion.¬† She often goes for the dramatic, modern¬†looks (she’s a model for Lanvin, right?)–but they never seem to suit her.

You know when she looked really incredible?¬† In ‘Far from Heaven.’ (at least what I can remember, because I am always a bit transfixed in that one by Dennis Haysbert)¬† With the retro looks doing well these days, I wish she would go that direction with her RC looks.

(and though I don’t like the 70s looks myself, she did look great in that type of stuff in Boogie Nights.)

  • marilyn

That isn’t even a good color for her.¬† THe colors are too harsh for her. She looks like a Keebler elf of sorts. Nothng about her hair, shoes, dress is good.

  • Spicytomato1

She looks like she’s got tennis balls balanced on her shoulders under the dress!

She is so pretty…her hair, her face, her coloring, her bod…all are enviable. I think she fancies herself to be edgy but somehow can’t pull it off. I’d love to see her in Rooney Mara-inspired ensembles — chic and mod, yet minimal and sophisticated.

  • m0r0

Girl! That is not your make up!

  • ugh, that eye makeup… it’s like two pee holes in the snow….

  • aristida_girl

Burn the outfit and hire some new stylists, for goodness sake. I know she can afford it and she is so pretty, I would love to see her find what suits her.

  • Acid green is SO not the right green for her.¬† Darker, subtler tones…..moss green, for example.¬† She’s so beautiful.¬† Girl needs a stylist who realizes she’s the flower, not the vase.¬† Simple, elegant styles and colors.¬† Set off that lovely face.¬† No need to distract with outsize wrapping.¬† Miz J’s pretty enough without all the schmutz (and that included makeup and hair as well). ¬† ¬†

  • LadyJane22

To me, Julianne Moore is always Trying Too Hard. She’s like Ginnifer Goodwin, trying to fit the cliche of Stylish Movie Star when it so clearly isn’t her forte. Every time I see her ‘dressed up”, she never looks truly comfortable, and the clothes are never really flattering. And as everyone knows, Trying Too Hard is never attractive.¬†

  • A look that is less than the sum of its parts.

  • miwome

This is even worse than usual. It’s depressing me. The MAKEUP! It’s like if she were playing Zombie Palin.

  • turtleemily

She looked great during her Daily Show interview the other night. This looks like…Desperately Single Mother of the Bride.

  • TomBord

if minnie mouse were a dress she’d look just like that !

  • MoHub

Is there a runway shot of this?

  • MoHub

Julianne: Please invest in a pair of pantyhose.

  • Sophie Collier

I’m trying to imagine this dress properly fitted and looking good on anyone and I can’t manage it. ¬†Is there a runway pic of it or something? ¬†To me, it’s extremely ugly and poorly designed. ¬†

  • CatherineRhodes

I’ve been staring at that picture covering various parts with my thumb, and come to the conclusion the problem is hair & make-up and shoes ‚ÄĒ easy fix! Because I think that is her dress… it’s the styling that’s off.

Imagine her hair down long on her shoulders with big spiral curls. Imagine softer make-up and maybe a pink on the lip. Imagine a lighter black shoe of some sort. It all works. Oh, and a pretty handbag, not that piece of artillery she’s carrying.

  • LambeeBaby

She is beautiful but I think that she wears things that she likes rather than what suits her. Does she have a stylist? If she doesn’t, she should get one, if she does, they should be bitch slapped.¬†

  • unbornfawn

This dress makes her body look all kinds of weird. The make-up is pretty bad too.

  • Not her dress or her shoes…. But her eyes pops like crazy with that color and her eye makeup.

  • tsid2012

Did she steal that from the old wardrobe closet of “Dynasty”?

  • OUT! Leprechaun attack!
