Emma Stone in Todd Lynn

Posted on March 21, 2012

We think we may just have stumbled across a fact about Emma we never considered before.

Emma Stone promotes “The Amazing Spider-Man” at the 2012 WonderCon in California in Todd Lynn paired with J Brand jeans and Jimmy Choo shoes.

She always looks much, much better when she’s dressed casually. Don’t get us wrong; the gal has occasionally managed to turn it out on the red carpet. We seem to be among only a small group of red carpet commenters who loved her Oscar gown with the big bow. But let’s face it: girl has had some problems on the RC more often than not. She strikes us as not at all a fussy or girly-girl kinda girl. Which is kind of a shame because her job practically requires that she wear fussy things at least a couple of times a month. This, on the other hand, looks adorable on her. And she’s shown more style by picking that cool jacket than all the gowns and dresses she’s worn in the last year put together. The shoes are a little tacky-looking. Or at least, they would be if she’d worn them with a dress. They’re perfect for a pair of jeans. She really looks adorable here.

Emma Stone is a cool chick. This outfit proves it.

While I relegate animal prints to my pajamas, I like the shoes with these jeans, too.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

She looks utterly charming, in the very best sense of that word.

    • http://twitter.com/bredalot Bridget Smith

Oh my God, I WANT that jacket. CRAVE, NEED. And the spiky angles are perfect for talking about her superhero movie, without being all primary colors about it.

      • http://www.wordydoodles.com WordyDoodles

brlliant “without being all primary colors about it”

    • Aly Marti

GOD those LEGS. so skinny minnie. am very jealous.

    • Judy_J

She looks great….nice combination of elements.  I’d kill for that jacket.

      • RebeccaKW

I’ll help you bury the body, b/c YES!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Not a fan of the jacket, but overall she’s pretty damn cute.

    • IAmJ

She looks lovely. And damn, I’d kill for those legs.

    • Laylalola

      Cute as a button.

    • TheOtherChristina

I love this entire look. The jacket is especially fabulous. I wouldn’t say no to some less fussy earrings, but I’d still rate this a WERQ. She looks amazing and she knows it.

    • sarahofalessergod

She strikes me as being very similar to Sandra Bullock in that way.  Remember when Sandy was on her Oscar run and she often looked unsure of how to pose and what exactly to wear? (Except for that McQueen at the SAGs.) Emma is a bit like that, in that I get the sense she’s rather be in casual chic clothes than dressed to the nines in a dress that costs as much as a semester’s tuition at a private college.  I think outfits like this are where her sense of fun and youthfulness really shine.

      • Rand Ortega

Absolutely agree. Do you think it might be an understanding of how to connect w/ her fans? Events like CCI are so people oriented ES knows how to dress because she’s comfortable presenting herself on that level. Whereas at RC events she’s more on display in couture, therefore that fan/friendly connection isn’t there & the stylists present certain looks they think fit the occasion (though she makes the final choice)?

      • ballerinawithagun

Exactly! I remember when Sandy was even younger & she kept showing up with heavy black eyeliner & overtly sexy clothes when she always looked better as the fun girl next door in jeans.

    • RebeccaKW

I want everything she’s wearing.  Love.

    • lrhoff

She does look great — and she’s sporting a wonderfully sincere smile.  That’s the best accessory of all!

      • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

I think that is what makes it – when she is comfy she is happy and when she is happy she is gorgeous.

    • j_anson

I didn’t realize she was playing (I assume) MJ. That’s perfect! I would see that movie just for her.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

So, SO much better than KiKi.  I never thought she was right for MK.

      • http://twitter.com/bredalot Bridget Smith

She’s not: she’s playing Gwen Stacy, which is more true to the early comics. Hence the blond hair.

    • Pants_are_a_must

It should be said, though, that if she fails at being a Serious Actor, she can rely on this newly discovered talent to score tons of buddy/romantic comedies.

    • NatalieD28

At 23, I have to say, I really have never had a favorite female star – not even Britney. But there’s something about Emma I just adore! She seems like she would be such an awesome friend, a nice girl with a cool job who could still have a beer with you at a baseball game. I agree she looks great here, as she almost always does when going casual, and I love the jacket!

      • Lochery

I have to agree. I’m around the same age, and it’s been hard to really love a lot of contemporary female stars (which always makes me feel a bit sexist). They either feel inapproachable (Emma Watson, Dakota Fanning) or… I don’t know, not smart (which could totally not be true, just how some stars come off). This Emma does not seem like either, which is lovely!

    • sagecreek

I just wish that I had ever, one day in my life, looked that cute.

    • Shoelover1512

      She looks fantastic.

    • http://onebluetree.blogspot.com/ Sara L.

I just love her. That jacket is awesome, and I freaking loved the Oscar gown with the big bow. She is such a wonderful natural comedian, too.

    • amywinns

I love that this seems to be a totally pulled together yet not super-matchy look. Like, very cool for lunch or drinks with friends, not just all SEXYSEXY for men or paparrazzi. Very inspiring! And everything fits so well! I do wish the shirt wasn’t so bunchy, but the color, neckline and length on it are great, so overall it rounds up to perfect.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

LOVE this outfit.  Perfect–I think it’s a WERQ.

      • Diane Lynch

I second that. That is a WERQ-worthy ensemble if ever I’ve seen one. Casual WERQ, but still.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

I flove her. She looks adorable. Emma, let’s go get fro-yo and watch a terrible chick flick we can mock together, mmmkay?

    • Anathema_Device

She does look great here: very stylish and comfortable. I, too, loved that red Oscar dress. I didn’t get why people hated it so much.

    • ccm800

She had a decidedly good run a couple of months back – then she fell off – like a restaurant with a new chef – I think she fired the wrong gay… ANyone else seen Suburgatory and the cute little thing that is her doppelganger to the T?

      • Verascity

Yes! That girl looks EXACTLY like her. I thought it WAS her for a while.

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

If I were straight, I’d totally wife her.  Since I’m not, I’ll settle for stealing that jacket from her.

    • MilaXX

I think I prefer animal print shoes with pants or jeans.  She looks cute here.
For me the Oscar bow dress wasn’t bad, it just had a been there, done that feeling about it. Especially since Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron both made pretty big statements with bow dresses years earlier.

    • allisankelly

I have to agree, this is exactly the kind of outfit to break out the animal print pumps for! So Cute!!

    • Jessica Goldstein

Yup, this outfit is perfect and I’d love to steal it, especially the jacket. And you know, I liked her Oscar gown, too.

    • https://profiles.google.com/104791269167429064986?hl=en&tab=h Judy S

      She’s mighty cute.

    • Addicted2Glamour

And my gay-boy crush on Miss Stone has now blossomed fully into Love. :-)

    • alyce1213

I’m not a big fan of animal print shoes (or anything much, really), but this pair is pretty low key and really nice.
She has the right body for those jeans,
      Adorable.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=816120314 Chason Dailey

I threw up snaps at that second picture. Well done, Miss Stone.

    • BazoDee

What a perfect comic con outfit – she looks great -tons of personality!

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Love this look.  Young, fresh, and comfortable.  She looks adorable.

    • jeneria

To me she looks like she has too many teeth in her mouth.  She’s cute and stylish, but that’s about it.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

That jacket totally makes the outfit.  Adorable!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1077090078 Megan Sullivan

Fabulous! Not sure about her hair color in this… seems like a lighter/blonder red than usual and I don’t like it as much.

    • kimmeister

That slate blue color looks great on her.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

      Perfection, agreed!

    • greyhoundgirl

Love, love–she looks modern and chic.  The jacket makes it.

    • Monica Day

Holy backhanded bitchery. I dig Emma Stone’s red carpet looks; the navy and gold combo at the Help premiere in Germany , the Alexander McQueen at the SAG awards, and of course, the epic Lanvin with the eagle belt from the Golden Globes. Girl looks stylish, young and effortless in some pretty unique choices. Most importantly, she looks like HERSELF without looking like she is trying too hard – there is a consistent lightness and a wink to her red carpet presence that keeps everything very Emma.

So I just can’t agree with the “has some problems more often than not” sentiment. By the by, I liked the old TLO writing better, back when it was tongue in cheek and witty. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good critique, but lately ya’ll have been shortchanging the analysis and omitting the explanation behind your dislike of a look or an accessory. Without that kind of insight, the writing is starting to feel negative, glib and a little woman-hating (see the Beyoncé post that starts with “glowing” and ends with a snarky aside about blotter).

      • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

We miss the old style of commenters, who didn’t tend to labor mightily to portray us as woman-haters just because we told a multi-millionaire celebrity she needed to blot her face.

We cannot even begin to tell you how offensive that is.

        • alyce1213

          Too sensitive.
Ms Day’s remarks were not offensive, just a bit critical.  You can take it.

          • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

Bullshit. You don’t throw around terms like “woman-hating” lightly.

            • Monica Day

I like your site and I tend to like your commentary – that’s why I care enough to occasionally ring in. But it can’t have completely escaped notice that two dudes commenting on women’s clothes-hanging ability can sometimes (SOMETIMES) read as “a little woman-hating.” I stand by that.  Fashion is fraught with all sorts of socio-political concepts that reach far into our psyche. Commenting on an actress’s fashion is in some way commenting on her ability to successfully commodify herself – to borrow or buy the appropriate signifiers of wealth and status and deploy them in a way that will lead to greater industry share.  So yes, you aimed a remark at multimillionaire celebrity but, in doing so, you also pointed out how a little human sweating reduces the appeal of the product. Is it true? Yes. Is it a fair comment? Sure. Is it also subtly woman-hating? Yes. A little. Which is exactly what I said.

            • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

Honey, this is a site where we make fun of celebrities wearing hundred-thousand-dollar dresses that they didn’t pay for. You want to bring your socio-political concepts and psyche into it, be our guests, but it no more makes us woman-haters than it makes you interesting.

            • Monica Day

Honey, yourself. I didn’t bring with me anything that wasn’t already here; you clearly are aware of the same issues or your Mad Men analysis would be far less erudite than it is.

    • http://twitter.com/Eovaai Eovaai

      Love everything about this look.

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

      Agreed, super sexy and chic!

    • BrightsideSusan

Love her.  Love that she is a young actress who doesn’t seem to need to look like a street walker when she goes out.

    • RWtD

      That jacket is AMAZING.

    • crash1212

Adorable. I think she’s a hoot. Her ‘presenting’ at the Oscars was one of the few high points. I love this outfit – start to finish.

    • quiltrx

I REALLY like that jacket!  She looks happy and like she’s having fun with what she’s wearing.  Good for her!

    • miatamam

The 3D glasses really complete the look though.

    • R. L.

I’d love to have that jacket.  She looks absolutely adorable here.

    • Dhammadina

I’ll throw in another adorable. Super super super cute!!

    • Sara-Ann Collins

I wonder how close this is to her natural hair color.

    • cleep1000

I’d like it better if the pants were a skosh less tight. The way they’re wrinkling around the crotchal area does not look comfortable.

    • ErinSara5

I absolutely love this jacket. Todd Lynn’s tailoring is amazing.

    • indigospade

See, I think animal print can look awesome depending on the classiness of the person and how it’s used. Too many years of “jersey couture” style outfits and people of walmart dressers have given it a bad vibe for too long.

    • Christy Gill

She looks gorgeous! I adore her, and yes, TLO, her Oscar dress was fabulous. I thought of Nicole Kidman immediately when I saw it, but I didn’t care. Emma still looked wonderful.

    • kolokOlchik

She looks very cute, but I don’t like that she’s lightened her fiery-red hair

    • PeaceBang

Loved her Oscar gown, love this, adore her. I also love that TLo read these comments and do not hesitate to defend themselves from the Pathologically Touchy and irrationally critical. Tons of love to you both.

    • Wrenaria

I love her. And  her legs. And her outfit. Fab.

    • aristida_girl

      Love

    • http://twitter.com/pointlesswords jaymeglynn

The glasses are hideous though, we all realize that, right?

    • littlescuba

does anyone know where I can get that Todd Lynn Blazer?
