Emma Roberts in NYC

Posted on March 29, 2012

Isn’t that just the way of things? Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, if you show us a picture of Emma on the red carpet, we’re gonna hate how she’s styled. We just never think the gal gets it right. But as is so often the case, the ones who can’t master the formal looks really come to life when they’re just allowed to walk down the street.

Emma Roberts out and about in NYC. in black leather pants from Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet and carrying a Celine bag.

Of course they’re still walking in front of cameras and half the time the clothes are just as borrowed and styled as a red carpet appearance, but still. She’s clearly a leather-pants-and-leopard-scarf kind of girl and we say “Go with that, honey.” She looks adorable.

       Adorable. She looks great.

So cute.  I’m not a big fan of leather pants, but she’s really rocking those….they look and fit great.  Wish I could see more of that sweater she’s got on under the jacket.

Any chance we can get a close up of that red ring? Love the pop of color!

      • kinziesays

I may be mistaken, but it looks a bit like the YSL Arty ring.

        • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

Ooh, thanks! I’m about to embark on a mad websearch now…

    • PeaceBang

The song “Native New Yorker” just became a serious ear worm in my head. I don’t know if she’s an L.A. girl or what, but she’s got the NYC fun-eccentric-sexy thing down pat.

    • Little_Olive

The way they pimp the bag is almost embarrassing.

I want that LV Sprouse leopard scarf.

      • TheOriginalLulu

It looks almost exactly like the leopard scarf I just picked up at Daffy’s. Yay me!

    • nannypoo

I hope she’s on her way to the drugstore to buy shampoo.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

She looks very cute indeed, though I shudder a little when I think how skinny her legs are in reality in order to be photographed in leather pants and STILL have such trim stems.

      • Jecca2244

i know. putting down the piece of bread I am currently gnawing on…

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Girl, eat that bread if you want to.  She gets paid to look like she does.  And has to go to great lengths to do so.  Having a body that isn’t a sample size is not a crime, and is more likely much healthier, in the long run.

Look at Dianna Agron’s legs. Those are the legs you want. The result of exercise is preferable to that of askesis.

      • TheOriginalLulu

RIGHT? I’m hoping she’s just naturally thin and not going the way of most starlets and starving herself to the point where she looks like a sack of bones.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

           Precisely my point.

        • Athenrein

My legs are that skinny, and I promise you, I eat plenty. To me she looks like one of us super skinny people, because she doesn’t look unhealthy. Now if only someone would loan me amazing pants….

          • TheOriginalLulu

Yes, then you *do* need to get yourself some leather pants asap, because they only look great on the very slim.

Either lose the scarf or change the shirt, and I’m with you.

The pants are crinkly and weird in the legs in the back.  I can’t say they are flattering at all.  I imagine if that cute bag (which would be more fun in another color- such a brooding hipster color scheme…) were not obstructing the view of the front of the pants, there would be that awkward pulling/gaping that tends to occur with pants that are either too large, ill fitting in the area, or need some stretch.  It seems like she needs more structure.

I guess I am not sold on her rocking the pants, but then again I am not sure how this look is at all working it.  I am wondering now if not brushing your hair and throwing on ill-fitting pants from the 90s, a t-shirt, a cute jacket (hanging off), a thin scarf, schleppy boots, and an excessively expensive purse are really de rigueur.  I get it, but it looks sloppy.

    • Pants_are_a_must

Leather pants? Really? Are we back to that stupid trend? And why with suede booties? It just looks so BAD. I’m sorry, but this Bitter Kitten remains unconvinced this woman has any taste whatsoever.

      • http://twitter.com/pointlesswords jaymeglynn

I agree. I’m a huge fan of playing with texture, but the suede black and the leather black look horrid together. Not liking this at all.

    • kimmeister

Who wears leather pants to do errands?!?!  Although she is pulling them off.  I hate the shirt though.  The star patterns can’t go away soon enough. They just look so juvenile to me.

    • J D

Ill-fitting leather pants tucked into suede booties with a leopard print scarf??? No.

    • funkypeanut

I’m not a fan of the boots, but I think that she looks great. She looks so much more comfortable in her skin than she usually does, and that makes a huge difference.

    • TheOriginalLulu

Very cute and a lot less bobblehead-ish than she usually looks.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

Hate those ugly suede boots.  Other than that, I agree that she looks good.

    • siriuslover

I hope those leather pants aren’t borrowed :/

I do agree, though, she looks chic.

    • ballerinawithagun

Nice casual, seemingly unstudied look. I love the size of that bag instead of gigantic.

      • TheDivineMissAnn

Agreed.  I could never understand the gigantic purse thing.  I had too many years of carrying a diaper bag, I guess.

    • mjude

      i dont get the shoes/boots?

    • MilaXX

Best I’ve seen her look in a very long time.

    • annieanne

Maybe she’s not “styled” when she’s out running her errands? Maybe she needs to fire her stylist and take over dressing herself for the red carpet as well?

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

she looks healthy and fresh, i am blown away.

    • butter nut

even though she’s clearly got the body for leather pants, i don’t think these are doing her any favors.  also, i really don’t like them paired with those booties.  and that sweater is really juvenile…  yikes.  the more i look at the pics, the more i hate everything she’s wearing.

    • eight_of_nine

I wish I could just wear leather pants whenever I felt like it.

    • boweryboy

The boots ruin it for me.

    • http://profiles.google.com/phyllis.craine Phyllis Craine

I really really REALLY want that Celine bag

…und jetzt kommt der ball…heute ganz in leder…

Sorry, but it’s too much leather for me. Either the shiny pants, or the suede boots, but the two textures are fighting with one another for me. Add the big black bag and….verruckte Otto joke comes to mind.
