Eddie Redmayne for Burberry Ad Campaign

Posted on March 08, 2012

Our gentle home has been torn apart by opposing opinions on the charms of Eddie Redmayne. Tom thinks he’s good-looking, but tends to take a terrible picture; Lorenzo just sighs as little hearts pop around his head, Sally Brown-style.

Burberry Spring/Summer 2012 ad campaign starring Eddie Redmayne and Cara Delevingne photographed by Mario Testino.

And while Tom still thinks Eddie can’t pose without looking self-conscious or goofy about it, he is in full agreement that these ads have had the desired effect of making us want to spend all our money on these clothes. That COAT, darlings.

We’re so suggestible that way. You wouldn’t believe how often we say “I want that” during commercial breaks.

He has so much concealer on his lips.

    • NinaBoo

It is nice to see the mouth-breather pose isn’t just for women.

In the name of all that is sacred and holy, will the open-mouth posing ever end?

      • JosephLamour

I actually shouted “Holy CRAP what a bad picture!” to the second one. He should think about sticking to acting.

  • veronkimo

Totes agree with Tom. He is cute, but takes REALLY bad pictures. Some of those make him look unappealing.

    • Pennymac

Agreed. The clothes look FAB; him, not so much.

    • Yeah – team Tom on this one for me too. I suspect he looks better when he is moving.

  • Sorry, guys, I just don’t see his appeal. But the clothes are nice!  My personal favorite is the one that SHE is wearing; the cream belted number, second from the bottom. So if this was HIS editorial, then SHE is definitely pulling focus!

  • I’m with Tom. Very cute, good actor, but not a model. The clothes, however, look smashing.

    • Funny so many actors are bad models…

  • “Tlo said: Lorenzo just sighs as little hearts pop around his head, Sally Brown-style.”

Lorenzo definitely has a type, doesn’t he?

And BTW, that olive leather coat in the first picture is to die for!

    •  Haha, yes! I’ve noticed Lorenzo tends to have a soft spot for the fellas who bear a resemblance to Tom.

      • AthenaJ

      • kolokOlchik

That was what I just said :))

  • theblondette

omg. He might be a nice looking guy, but that second photo makes him look constipated! And overall he just looks really awkward and uncomfortable.

  • rawrgrowlrawr

He is so cute, but I am mainly attracted to the striped coat.

  • MilaXX

He does nothing for me, but I would love that striped coat she is wearing.

  • Paigealicious

He looks much better in action (i.e., whilst acting).

  • rkdgal

I love a gent with freckles, but I don’t think all the outfits suit his coloring that well.  I’m with T on this one: cute, but probably cuter in person.

  • Stefanos Mantyla

That first picture of him seemed OK if nothing remarkable, but it sure went downhill from there, didn’t it? Not the clothes, though. Of course not the clothes!

  • Classy honeybee coat, get on my body NOW.

  • Qitkat

Ya’ll will think I’m nutz, but in a small way he reminds me of Matt Smith. Though Matt is much cooler and wears clothes better. Can’t speak to as who wears naked better ;-p

    •  I was thinking he looks like Max Irons, without any of Jeremy’s potential.  Not that Max has shown much of his father’s potential, either, but at least he has the genetic coding.

  • Maria Rosenfire

FRECKLES! I’m with Lorenzo on this one, that is one adorable little face.

Also, I would wear every single piece of clothing in this editorial, whether or not it was intended for someone of my gender. I made an inappropriate noise of appreciation when I saw those coats.

  • EspyRants

He will never not freak me out. I saw the Good Shepherd and got a major uncanny valley vibe when he came on the screen. It was like they made him in a lab to get the perfect Angelina/Matt Damon spawn…Stupid DeNiro ruined a perfectly good Marius for me.

  • Oh lord, those freckles kill me. I could let him feed me strawberries any day of the week.

  • I’m with Tom. And that coat.

  • Terence Ng

Not my cup of tea, if these pictures are to be believed.

  • Did you see “My Week With Marilyn?”  He was super endearing in that and by the end of the movie he was adorable to me.  Therefore I am willing to also think he’s adorable here, even though he does NOT photograph well, poor little puppy dog…  That may be factoring in somehow.

    • I loved him that movie. Such a cutie, but poor model

  • hughman

Oh yeah, it is most certainly all about that mustard coat with the orange trim. Just something to, you know, throw on when walking the 2.5 French Bulldogs in the morning while my luvvahh lounges in the king size feather bed. “Darling, will you hand me my fab Burberry coat? It’s on the Knoll.” I do get a giggle when I find a Euro in the pocket I’d forgotten about.

    Also, Eddie who?

  • J D

That coat.  Oh my God, that coat.

He kind of looks like Paul Bettany’s consumptive younger brother in these adds, which I don’t really mind, but he is not pulling those sunglasses off.

  • Jennifer Coleman

He IS kind of funny looking in a hottish sort of way, but quite compelling on film. Plus, anyone with the same  first name as my dad & son gets major points.

  • bluefish

I think Eddie is very very appealing but then I’ve always like skinny boys with angular faces.  I also love his coloring — the reddish hair, the pretty skin and the freckles.  The two coats in the third row, his and hers, are covetable in the extreme.  Coat lust for sure.

  • I LOVE those belts on the women’s coats. Oh my, oh my, oh my, do I want it ALL. Well, except the sunglasses and hats. Those are only OK.

  • Ms_Flyover

I can forgive almost any goofiness from someone with freckles like that.  Adore the last shot.  (and yeah, the 2nd one is awful.)

  • halleygee

I just had to google him, he’s new to me, but I agree with Tom. Love the freckles.

  • Katia Alba

For me, he has the “Keira Knightley Complex” (that mouth!)

  • Lilithcat

    Not my type at all.

On the other hand, I can totally relate to this:  these ads have had the desired effect of making us want to spend all our money on these clothes. That COAT, darlings.

Lately, I have become a complete outerwear queen.  The number of coats and jackets in my closet(s) is almost embarrassing.

    • mjude

oh Lilithcat one can never be embarrassed by how many coats one has (i cant help myself either) 🙂

  • NatalieD28

Le sigh…I’m totally with Lo on this one. He is my definition of dream guy! Rawr! Excuse me while I melt into mush…

  • He’s our future Marius…I can’t wait for the Les Mis movie! (But yeah, hopefully he will look better in action because he is not doing it for me here.)

  • NasserShaheen

I see only coats. All the coats here are fabutastic! My god, those girl coats especially, beautiful!

  • j_anson

Eugh, at least in these pictures, he’s projecting “guy who might try to roofie my drink” to me.

  • Jessica Rowe

Oh I love him.  The freckles. And I like large mouths. I can’t believe I just wrote that. But I did.

  • Kirsten Henry

Who cares about the face? He looks damn good in those clothes!

  • Susan Crawford

I have to say that the coat is fabulous!

I also have to say I am so out of the loop that I have no idea who Eddie Redmayne is. I do like freckles, but mostly on a hot ginger type. Hello, Prince Harry? Lady Gaga security guy? Are you out there?

I dunno about Eddie. He’s sort of cute, sort of not; kind of sexy, kind of not – I’m conflicted, but I know one thing for sure. He’s wearing the hell out of those clothes.

  • The clothes are FAB!

  • miagain

Wait ’til you see Birdsong on Masterpiece this April… I’m probably old enough to be his mother… but good grief he sure is purdy!!

  • Sorry but he looks like a grown-up Eddie Haskell.  You can have at him, Lo.

  • He’s adorable.  I thought the editorial in Vogue was good….  Here he looks kinda too bronzed, but otherwise cute – except for the strawberry feeding pictures – those are awk.

  • TheLaurenJean

  • Synnamin

I like the freckles, but something about his mouth makes me think he looks like a prep school jerk. Sorry boys. All yours!

  • nannypoo

Before the Marilyn movie I had always thought of him playing sort of a resident of a shack in the Ozarks or maybe a farmer who’s down on this luck. But after Marilyn and now these pictures, I can see lots of possibilities for him. Boyish and hot, a really marketable combination.

  • Corsetmaker

I was a bit taken aback to see him in an ad spread. I just didn’t think it would be a route he’d take.
Good actor, I’m sure he has a glowing future, not sure it’s in modelling though (nor should be).

  • TheOtherChristina

I’m feeling more excited by the whipstitched sunglasses. And that coat! I’m indifferent to the boy.

  • Kristy Evans

Yikes, those pictures are terrible. But I do so love a hot ginge.

  • To each his own. He does nothing for me in these clothes or out of them.

  • Fuck the coat. THAT MAN CLUTCH. I want it and I want it now!

  • AMartel

Sigh.  Heart the Redmayne.  Prefer a man not a mannequin.

  • Why does his head look so askew? And why do I still find him alarmingly attractive?

I may fight you boys for that coat.

  • I want the black and gold coat. Which probably isn’t the one that you guys wnat. And that’s good. So we can still be friends yes? As for Mr. Redmayne: meh. I like him better in these pics than I have at any other time.

  • Anathema_Device

He doesn’t do anything for me. The clothes are fabulous and he has a great frame for showing them off. I really like the 5th picture for the top.

  • sleepycat

So hot, please send him to my mailing address.

  • Linderella

And here I thought I was alone in my strange obsession over Eddie Redmayne, who is unconventional, yes, but insanely hot.
The coat is gorg, as well.  (May as well say SOMETHING about the fashions, which I had to pry my eyes off the model to notice.)

  • AlieMichelle

I think his weirdness is half of why I like him so much. And after I saw The Pillars of the Earth and heard his voice… yow. I was more than sold.

  • Not doing it for me, sorry. Neither the clothes nor the models grab my interest.

  • ballerinawithagun

Coats for men & women are gorgeous! Who eats a strawberry while wearing a winter coat???

  • miwome

Goddamn, I just love Burberry so much.

  • S R

I want to buy every piece of clothing in this campaign, even the ones made for men.

  • My god….I lust for those coats.
Eddie, not so much. He’s cute, but I don’t get the Sally Brown hearts bubbling up around me when I see him.

  • BrightsideSusan

I find he is much more charming in motion than in any photo I have ever seen of him.

  • Pants_are_a_must

I side with Tom. Like Benedict Cumberbatch, this guy looks way better in motion. I want his man clutch all the same.

    • Beardslee

Oh, is that what it was?  A clutch?  I couldn’t figure it out.  It reminded me of a vegetable peeler I have that fits over my finger.
Benedict Cumberbatch is another great looking unusual looking guy.

  • …He looks like he’s dying of scurvy.

    With nice clothes.

(I’m sure he’s a very fine and attractive person, with many fine qualities. Terrific in bed, even. But still. Dying of scurvy.)

  • maggiemaybe

His freckles are magically delicious. Looks like he needs a square meal, though.

  • Well I don’t know if it’s because I like boys way more than girls, but I can’t keep my eyes off of him. I have no memory of the girl’s face when I reach the comments section. And I loved him in My Week with Marilyn.

  • ccm800

If Guy Pearce and Willem Defoe had a son…

  • Beardslee

I’m with Lorenzo.  So what if he can’t model well – that’s not his day job, he is still delicious and the clothes are nice.

  • He has such an amazing voice for a teeny tiny young lad. Between Glorious 39 and My Week with Marilyn I was smitten.

  • Lorenzo, honey, you know we love you.  Because of that, I am very pleased you married Tom while you were having an outbreak of *good* taste in men.  Air kisses, darling.

  • tsid2012

Meh, he’s cute enough, too thin for my personal taste.  He really isn’t a good model though, is he?  My question to pose is why so many of the current crop of oh so skinny young hipster men insist on having so much artfully mussed hair on their head?  To me, it tends to make them seem very top heavy, like their frail little bodies can’t support such thick manes.  I tend to think a trimmer or slight man looks better with shorter, tamed hair.  Am I wrong?  Is this  sexy look I’m missing?

  • MissAnnieRN

I’m trying to think of a ginger, other than hot harry, who does take a good picture.  That freckly faced thing doesn’t translate well in photos, but it definitely is way hotter in action.  I universally love the ginger haired male species.  sighing and hearts style.

  • julnyes

He looks consumptive, but the clothes are fab.

  • Does he have freckles? I LOVE HIM. *I have no idea who he is, and that’s ok!*

  • CatherineRhodes

Somebody needs to give him some modelling lessons. His goofy expressions are distracting.

  • Derek_anny

I don’t think that they’re Bad Pictures ™ so much as he’s not a model.  He’s an attractive Everyman, which has it’s own appeal.

  • oohsparkley!

I can relate – I want that too! (the sunglasses).

  • kolokOlchik

I think there’s a resemblance between Tom and Eddie and that’s why Lorenzo has those floating hearts when he sees his pictures 🙂

  • bitterk

    I don’t see it

  • LambeeBaby

Cute! I love gingers. The second photo makes his heed look like “an orange on a toothpick”!

  • boweryboy

    He is so delicious.

  • He looks really fuckable.

  • umeboshi

i like his freckles. freckles need to come back in. adam lambert, i am talking to YOU.

  • GregoireNYC

I’m distracted by the bad shadowing effect.

  • 4JJ

His head looks alarming huge in all those shots. I’m not a big fan of his looks, but it’s that giant head that is so distracting! The clothes are wonderful, though.
