Diane von Furstenberg for GapKids

Posted on March 09, 2012

Gap and Diane von Furstenberg hosted the world premiere of the GapKids + DVF collection at Gap at The Grove in Los Angeles, CA.

And how fucking cute is that?

“Gap is thrilled to announce the launch of its first collection by Diane von Furstenberg for GapKids and babyGap for Spring 2012, available in US stores and US online on March 15, 2012 and the rest of the world on March 28, 2012.”

“The collection features iconic DVF prints, signature silhouettes and a bold color palette which translates into magical dresses that aspire to Mommy’s style as well as provide Summer wardrobe essentials including easy t-shirt dresses, jersey tanks, graphic t-shirts, blazers, capri leggings and swimwear. The legendary DVF wrap is re-invented with a child-like higher waist detail, in structured cotton or as a jersey romper shape for babies and toddlers.

Accessories including printed knot sandals, sunglasses, beach bags and sunhats, provide all the wardrobe building blocks that empower a young girl to playfully experiment with her evolving style and individuality, from pretty girlish dresses to rough and tumble essentials. Prices range from $20.00 to $120.00.”

When we first heard about this, we pshawed the whole thing, joking that she’d wind up making wrap dresses for toddlers. Well, shut our mouths; wrap dresses for toddlers are ADORABLE.  We think children should be kept in boxes and only let out to serve their adult masters drinks, but even we squealed a little at some of these pieces. We’re kinda sad now that all our nieces are tweens and teens. We would have had a blast buying up this stuff for various birthdays, back when they didn’t ask for gift cards and money.

  • Oh man, I want these for myself! The blue and white t-shirt dress is basically all I’ve ever wanted in a casual summer dress.

  • lucyloo222

Oh T-Lo, bless your paternal hearts.  If you want to spoil a 6 yr old girl, I happen to have one handy!

  • Sobaika Mirza

    Willow Rosenberg is SO pregnant!

    • andcoh

      That was my first thought.

    • Rebecca Zmarzly

       With Wesley’s baby!

    • Jessi03

That was my thought!  Also, yes, the clothes are adorable, but Willow is with baby!

    • JM Z

       Wouldn’t that be Willow Rosenberg-Wyndam-Price?

    • Another Willow and Wesley baby! They are the cutest family EVER.

  • ChaCha_70

Love the dresses! How to choose one? Guess I’ll just have to buy all of them for my bebe. Tres chic!

  • Oh, SQUEE. I either need to go out and get knocked up post-haste, or hope that they make them in the older girls sizes as well (pretty sure a girls’ 16 will still fit me…if I wear one hell of a girdle).

  • DVF for kids?!  How about DVF for Gap for adults? Please say yes! I will gladly give an entire paycheck to the cause!

    • Anathema_Device

Those green ankle-strap sandals are ridiculously cute…with a manageable heel! I’d wear those if they came in women’s size 10!

      • I am sitting here wondering how I can get myself into a size 4T right about now.

      • Aly Light

I’m a little skeeved by the idea of putting children under 10 in heels, myself.

  • AwesomeMargie

  • Oh, I think my little toddler girl might have a cute green wrap dress in her future (well, let me check out the price first)!

  • RebeccaKW

How cute is Milla J’s daughter?  Looks just like her.

these are really cute.  I agree with Bridget Smith, some of these I want for myself.

    • AthenaJ

I was just thinking that Milla’s daughter looks like Mini-Milla!

  • MilaXX

Thank you DVF. These cute kids clothes made me smile and helped turn around my grumpy mood this morning. These are adorable.

  • Adorable – it almost makes me want to have a toddler again.  Almost.  Luckily I have small nieces and nephews.

  • efishfan

Well, poo. Those wrap dresses are adorable! My daughter would even fit into them, but now that she’s in middle school GapKids is no longer cool. I may need to track down the orange floral one though, she always loves an orange moment.

  • shirab

Cute, but as a mother of two boys, I’m wondering if there’s anything in the line for them or if DVF only does womenswear and girlswear. Those little grey blazers don’t count since they are totally impractical.

  • pattyw

As the aunt of 6-year-old girl, I’m so excited to see something that doesn’t look like an explosion of pink sparkles. Can’t wait to go shopping!

  • Judy_J

My fashion-forward 5 year old granddaughter would look precious in these clothes!  Wish I had a ton o’money to spend on her.

  • I’ve had an alarm set on my phone for 4:45am (I’m on the west coast) March 15th for weeks now!

  • Anathema_Device

Wow. This is an adorable collection. I so miss the days when my daughter was own personal dress-up doll!! And I don’t have any little ones to buy for either! Harrumph.

    • Beardslee

You and me both.  I loved dressing my daughter before she had an opinion, and I would have bought so many of these for her.

  • So cute! And check out Aly Hannigan, I didn’t realize she was so far along! Her and Wesley make such adorable children.

  • OMG, when does this go on sale? I need that blazer

  • Diane_Chambers

I never want children until I see stuff like this.  (Not a good reason to have kids, I know.)

    • AuntieAnonny

I know exactly how you feel.

  • Ooh! Perfect timing for me, I’m expecting a baby in August! I won’t find out the gender for a couple of months but I really hope it’s a girl now. If it is a boy, do you think he could get away with one of those blazers?

  • Rebecca Zmarzly

My 5 year-old is a serious fashionista, so we may be making a trip to the Gap next week. J’ADORE!

  • Cheri Lee

So cute I could just goddamn die! I am super jealous of these kids man!!!

  • Sara LaBatt

Oh god, this could get expensive for me.  🙂

  • bookish

Those clothes are absolutely adorable, but I’m curious about the price. I remember looking at GAP sweaters when my niece was a baby, and thinking it was crazy to spend so much on clothes that would only fit for a couple months.

    • Too true.  That’s why my extended family passes around baby and toddler clothes between us.  I’ve also packed up a couple of boxes of my favorite baby/toddler outfits to pass on to my kids someday when they make me a grandma.

      • sleah_in_norcal

i did that with all the hand-knit sweaters and dresses my mom made for my daughter when she was a baby.  unfortunately, my daughter hates them and won’t let her kid wear them.  i keep them at my house for the grandchild and she enjoys wearing them when she’s here.

        • Heh – my mom saved for me an authentic German dirndl dress and boys’ lederhosen, both about size 3 or 4.  I don’t think my kids ever wore them other than for dress-up, but I don’t plan to get rid of them either.  I’m saving them for the next generation’s dress-up days!

        • amywinns

If the girl enjoys them, it’s a unfortunate your daughter can’t be more indulgent of her daughter and mother. You’re a good mom to not push it, but I’m on your side. 🙂

    • Violina23

Funny how any clothing our toddler has from the Gap are gifts from grandparents and/or hand-me-down from my sister’s in-laws 😉

The stuff is quality though, so if it’s something they’ll wear repeatedly, and you get a nice deal at the outlet center, it’s not too bad

  • LesYeuxHiboux

Feelin’ lucky to have six-year-old niece (and a secret top-closet-shelf “hope chest” of clothing for future Petits Hiboux), though I wouldn’t mind versions of the green sandals and that cute blazer for myself.

  • PastryGoddess

OMG…how sad is it that I. WANT. THESE. for my not 8 year old self.

    So frickin cute..non

  • HazellC

Oh my god, I want a tiny wrap dress for my child.  Those are so cute.

  • dress_up_doll

That’s it! I’m getting knocked up — and going shopping!

  • This is so precious! Love!

  • ccm800

I have a grand niece just this size WOOHOO!

  • serenitynow02

That’s major cute. It almost makes me wish I had littles again. Almost.

  • Qitkat

    Well, shoot 🙁
I guess these are only for girls. So frickin cute.

  • EEKstl

Is it bad that I actually want most of these dresses in my size?  FANTASTIC line, DVF does it again!

  • cleep1000

Is that Milla’s hubby? Isn’t he just a tall drink of yum.

  • MarissaLG

So cute, so chic and they seem very kid and parent friendly (not that I’d really know lol) Aside from the blazers, maybe, which are obviously adorable but don’t seem like they’d be comfortable for a smaller child.

  • KaileeM

Cute! I have two boys, so I love to spoil my nieces and friends’ daughters with cute clothes. Love that nothing is drenched with pink either.

  • God I hope those sandals come in a girls size 2. For once having tiny feet would be an advantage.

  • sleah_in_norcal

how f-ing adorable is that green DVF wrap dress?  iconic toddlerwear.

and, i think we’ve found just the right venue for kenley’s clothes….her polka dot romper would fit right in.

  • hughman

The funny thing was, when I first saw the headline and header photo (before I read the PR recap) I thought this post was about Mondo’s “winning” dress!! LOL.

    • tired_mommy

      So did I!

  • I never wished for daughters until now.

  • emily mcginnis

i’m so excited about some of these pieces for my daughter. so cute. i wish DVF would do an adult gap line!

  • Zaftiguana

It can’t be an accident that this is being released on my due date.

If I end up having a boy, though, I can only see the little onesie in the first picture working out. My potential disappointment exceeds even my chagrin about the Target Missoni collection. Pretty much every textile up there is unisex, just not the silhouettes. Someone needs to remind these retail-slumming designers that little boys can be fabulous, too. Throw a sister a bone and make some itty bitty pants and vests in those prints!

    • crackineggs

I agree, I was so excited to see this collection and so disappointed that there was nothing for boys.  My kid is six and the selection has narrowed down to endless striped shirts or anything with a Lightning McQueen graphic.  I console myself that I save tons of money not having a girl.

  • mjude

how adorable. i too wish my neice wasnt a grownup. she so would have been wearing dvf

  • Now if she’d only come out with a line for those of use above a size 10…  *sigh*

  • aimee_parrott

So. Freaking. Cute!  And I love that they look like clothes for little kids, and not mini-sized adult clothes.  Bravissima!

  • nancymae

I squealed like the GEICO pig when I saw that green wrap dress!

  • girliecue

OMG, a match made in heaven! Who else can design fabulous prints like DVF and who else can wear the hell out of prints like kids?  Babies I barely know are going to get really nice pressies. These clothes are irresistible!

  • SeriousStyle

My niece just turned 2 and lives in San Francisco…I’m going to visit at the end of April.  Guess what Aunt Adrienne is bringing?!?!

  • Thank you boys for showing these off!  Love it!

  • Allison Woods

Absolutely love….except for the exposed zip. No on that.

  • 3boysful

Hey!  Didn’t DVF rip off Emilio’s personalized print idea?!  For shame!  😉

  • Cannot wait for next week so I can buy something for my goddaughter!

  • So cute!  I wish I had daughters!

  • I knew Alyson Hannigan was pregnant, but she really is pretty damn pregnant, isn’t she?! Cute kids stuff. That’s my baby shower buying sorted for this year.

    • Violina23

WOW, I didn’t even recognize her! Her daughter is adorable. Those Buffy Alums sure know how to make cute kids!

  • prettybigkitty

If only the cats liked playing dress up.  So cute.

  • crash1212

Those clothes are adorable and I totally WANT those black and white print pants! Although, I must say, the thing that most caught my eye is…what the hell is going on with Mila’s left little toe? Did she have it amputated?

  • julnyes

If the price isn’t ridiculous I will definitely pick up some of these pieces for my nieces.

  • kentiesgirl

“We think children should be kept in boxes and only let out to serve their adult masters drinks”. Dude, with 5 of them I TOTALLY get that feeling from time to time. LMAO.

It is pretty freakin cute…but price point is everything. I only started buying my kids non-walmart clothes when they hit school age and stopped growing so fast. That price range is middle school/high school territory. No way I would spend $120 on toddler clothing. That’s what fabulous relatives are for…they provided all the outfits for all family photo shoots. Thanks Mom and Dad 🙂
… but I still can’t wrap my head around designer onesies and the fear of diaper leakage in said designer onesies; just had to throw that out there.

  • SapphoPoet

    Very cute and kid-appropriate. Fun!

  • These clothes are very well photographed.

  • butter nut

i want these in adult sizes

  • Fordzo

Milla’s feet are going to give me nightmares!  Milla go home and put on shoes that fit!  Aaaaaaaaaagh!!!!!

Also, that bumble bee shirt is too effing cute and I want it for myself.

    • alyce1213

  • alyce1213

The clothing is cute, but I’m just not in love with her color palette.  Not a fan of green and orange together, or green and pink.

I’ve always preferred classic primary colors for my kid, with blacks and greys as well; I dislike garish “kid” colors.

  • DesertDweller79

These are cute.  But those pink sandals kind of are heels.  And that is very wrong.  Basically, women shouldn’t even be wearing heels at all due to how they screw up one’s back, knees and legs.  But, giving them to children?  Um, no.

  • That black sleeveless dress is adorable. Unfortunately Gap Kids stuff is ridiculously overpriced so I doubt any of these are in my three year old’s future;)

  • miwome

DYING OVER HERE. I tend to share your views on kids, and I particularly get annoyed by designerwear for tiny humans who will outgrow it all in a month, but this is too adorable. I can’t.

  • tired_mommy

So much cuter (happier/more colorful) than the Stella McCartney stuff Gap Kids has been carrying. Have a feeling price point will not pass my laugh test for kids clothes though…

  • MoHub

I need grandkids to put in these.

  • MoHub

    All bow before DVF!

  • I want those sandals.

  • introspective

as a clotheshorse and the mother of a little boy- this makes me moan -as i always do- about the fact that girls clothing is so much cuter and so varied in style than boys’ clothes. Boys get uninspired plaids stripes and camo in most mainstream stores. Hues are always bue gray or green with maybe a bright colored accent. Yay for us.

Can we get a john varvatos or something for gap kids stat?? Thanks.

Oh and yes- squeals of delight for the dvf line! Too cute!

  • She had me until I saw the exposed zipper. When will that trend die???

  • McSpanky

Sorry to disagree, but ew ew ew. I wouldn’t dress my dog in that. Why is it in vogue to dress from my mother’s closet. Oy cringe.
