Beyonce in Victoria Beckham

Posted on March 21, 2012

It’s such a cliche to say this, but motherhood really agrees with Bey. Girl is GLOWING.

Beyonce arrives at Nobu restaurant in NYC in a Victoria Beckham dress paired with a Lanvin  necklace and Nicholas Kirkwood sandals.

Lanvin Spring 2012 Collection Necklace

Nicholas Kirkwood Satin and Glitter Sandals

Girl could have also used a little face-blotting, but that’s another story.

This is a sharp little dress and the color looks absolutely gorgeous on her. It’s a shame it’s pulling across the hips, but we’re pretty sure it’s just riding up because she just got out of her car. A little smoothing of the skirt and she’ll be good to go. We’re beginning to sound like a broken record on this point, but we think just a skosh off the hem was called for. That below-the-knee length isn’t always friendly to the curvy gals. It’s more for the tall, willowy types. The shoes are pretty fierce, and so is the necklace, but on the jewelry front, we think she should’ve followed Coco’s Dictum of taking one piece off before you leave the house. Either the eagle or the heavy chain, but not both. But the overall effect is pretty striking. Not quite a WERQ-worthy entry, but good enough for an “Attagirl.”

In other pictures I’ve seen of this — maybe the pictures you tweeted? — it looks a little snug across the bum, but I cut her some slack for having just given birth.  The color is great, the necklaces are too much.  I like the details at the waist/hips.  Usually, you’d think that would not flatter a woman with curves, but they’re kept to a minimum, so they add interest without interrupting the line.

    • sagecreek

      She looks FINE.

Me, I’d wear hose to Nobu, but I am older than dirt.

      • bellafigura1

I’m older than old dirt, and no, no you wouldn’t.  And it’s been absolutely balmy here in NYC …

        • http://twitter.com/bredalot Bridget Smith

Yeah, everyone’s ripping off the tights and hurling them across the room so we can feel some spring air on our skin. It’s GLORIOUS. No one is willingly wearing hose right now.

      • alyce1213

I’m older than dirt and wear hosiery, but when I went to Nobu recently for Restaurant Week, it was very casual — everyone in jeans, pretty much, except the Business Suits, who wore suits of course.  It WAS lunch.  I’d wear hose for dinner, though.

    • http://www.facebook.com/charlotte.horseman Charlotte Horseman

Damn, it did good things for Jay Z too.

      • Terence Ng

        LMAO.

      • JosephLamour

You just made me laugh for a good 30 seconds.

      • MilaXX

still looks like Joe camel to me.

    • Little_Olive

The shoes are tragic. And the blue nails are getting old now.

      • kimmeister

Blue toenails AND blue fingernails, yikes!

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

She has time to have a mani and pedi? Wow.

Like the blue color of the dress.

          • JosephLamour

She’s going to wear blue everything until she has her next baby and names him Chartreuse.

            • http://wipgirl.wordpress.com/ kristel

At least she’s not also got ivy embroidered/stencilled/otherwise attached on the clothes?

            • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

Forgot about the blue kid…Think you’re right about the color.

    • Fordzo

Forget the dress! Who is that fine man next to her?

      • DCSheehan

Yeah – what dress? Brother is smooth!!

      • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

        Yumm-me!

      • http://twitter.com/LOfficielEbony TheVeryLivingEND

         That’s her bodyguard, Julius.

        • http://twitter.com/pointlesswords jaymeglynn

That is the sexiest name a bodyguard has ever had, ever.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

Exactly what I was thinking–hel-LO, hot handler.  Jay-Z must be very secure with himself to let her have a handler that looks like that!

        • sweetlilvoice

My thoughts exactly. He is hot…could he be as hot as Lady Gaga’s ginger handler? I think the answer is yes.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Chic. Like all VB looks. This is totally working on Beyonce. She really looks lovely.

      • http://twitter.com/TheRedZavodnik Ginger

I never would’ve imagined that VB would have such chic clothing.  I find myself loving almost every single thing I’ve seen!

        • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

I totally agree. Who’d a thunk it? Every time I see a dress of hers I am totally awestruck. I can’t believe a former Spice Girl is one of my current faves. Nice little article about her in April Vogue btw.

          • sagecreek

I love her stuff…kinda surprised me, too! Alas, she does not design for bodies such as mine.

        • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

I know! I assumed they’d be… well, I don’t know what I assumed, but I didn’t expect her clothes to be so fabulous. This is so simple and sleek. Beyonce looks fantastic.

The shoes, though. They look better off than on.

          • Spicytomato1

Totally agree about the shoes. And the dress, it’s fab.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HREPOWNBVUBRIVPQCF3ST2IKDM Euphory

Posh turned out to be quite a designer.

          • luciaphile

Her stuff tends to favor anorexics, but I do like this look.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/XX3UUXUSBZGZQ4MKNADAMYTADE Mrs

She looks amazing.  Almost like she never was pregnant…

      • MilaXX

         that’s mean!

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6RS6NLL44AED3E4QWIYTDQGU6I Psy_Chick

Famous women always bounce back really fast. Probably because they can afford personal trainers, and they can take the time to make sure they get their bodies back, rather than having to live in the real world like the rest of us.

        • emily mcginnis

They do, but she supposedly had a c-section. I don’t know anyone who could “bounce back” from a c-section and do two workouts per day at this point. That baby was supposedly only born ten weeks ago. They completely cut your ab muscles during a c-section. And while you could probably work out, you really can’t work out that hard at this point. Well, at least normal people can’t.

          • TheDivineMissAnn

True that.  I had two C-sections.  No way you are doing any kind of ab workout in less than six weeks.  She’s wearing Spanx maybe?

    • bellafigura1

Very lovely, although she should have taken off the beads before she left the house.

    • Violina23

It’s been 2 years since I had my baby. I’m still waiting for that body ;) She looks awesome

    • http://heartprintandstyle.blogspot.com Vivi N

I’m thisclose to giving her an ‘OUT’ because of those necklaces. Like, it completely ruined the whole look. It will be hard for me to look beyond the necklaces and see a beautiful woman with a beautiful dress on.

      • TheDivineMissAnn

Agree!  I suppose that is supposed to be a Pheonix, but it is just hiddy!

    • RedRaven617

That three inch too long hemline makes her years older than she is. Make it shorter and she would’ve looked smashing.

    • BrooklynBomber

      That color’s gorgeous on her.

    • http://twitter.com/watchinginkdry Dr Skylaser

Eh.  Hate the shoes (in the pictures they look like they have stupid bulky wings), the dress is unflattering but in a great color, the necklaces are too much, and yeah, she needs blotting.  Overall a very mediocre look.

    • ccm800

Nice eye candy with her for sure!

    • schadenfreudelicious

i am no fan of blue nail polish on anyone grown up enough to be dining at Nobu, i am also no fan of ginormous bird necklaces whether they be by Lanvin or Etsy…that said she looks lovely, its a wonderful color on her and she certainly has a new mommy glow.

      • ri_dic

Lanvin or Etsy! LOL. That Lanvin necklace is butt ugly.

      • LambeeBaby

Whoa! I didn’t even notice the tacky polish until you scanned it with your “eagle eye”. Agreed, the bird should fly away with her nail polish.

    • serenitynow02

She looks lovely, if shiny, but lord, I hate that eagle thing she is sporting.

    • Judy_J

I’m no usually a fan of Victoria Beckham’s clothing, but I really, really like this dress.  Love the color, and I’m a sucker for a three-quarter length sleeve.

    • xay

That tall, dark and handsome accessory really complements her outfit.

      • Sophie Collier

NO KIDDING!  He’s hot as hell.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Julie-Hofer/25512586 Julie Hofer

Per usual, I disagree on the hemline. I think it looks great here. I LOVE that ‘just-below-the-knee’ look. I find it aesthetically refreshing and very elegant.

      • Kayceed

A thousand times yes. Most knees are not so beautiful that one would want to highlight them.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HREPOWNBVUBRIVPQCF3ST2IKDM Euphory

She’s tall enough to carry it off.  I wouldn’t recommend this length to anyone with muscled calves (like me) or below average height.

    • Kayceed

Yoohoo! Christina H! Here is your dress!

      • ballerinawithagun

That is exactly what I was thinking! Even though Christina is a little more “pleasingly plump” they have similar curves. Christina would look great in this, very early Mad Men.
Beyonce looks great, shorten the hem 1″ only because she does have muscular knees that either need to be covered or wear an extremely short dress.

    • janedonuts

I dream of owning a dress like that one day. Victoria Beckham, Roland Mouret – so great for those of us on the statuesque side of things. She looks amazing.

    • http://twitter.com/TheRedZavodnik Ginger

That dress is stunning and I LOVE that color.  Pass it my way, please!

    • marilyn

Great look, color is perfect for her.  Even though it is a little tight, she is curvy and just had a baby.  But I don’t like the shoes or the jewelry.  The shoes are too casual for this dress.  Also, they are plain old butt-ugly.  The jewelry is just messy and distracting.  Give her a 9 out of 10 for this look!

    • rketeckt

The bejewelled fowl is too much, the simple chain would have sufficed.  Not a fan of the shoe but I know nothing about lady shoes.  IMO the longer hem seems to make her hips look wider, but that’s me.

      Could have been devestatingly chic…

      • kimmeister

        The fowl is foul indeed!

    • paultoes

But what about her sexy man handler?

    • RichStrathmann

I’m not convinced she actually carried that baby.  I think it was a surrogate.  Probably why she looks so good in this dress.

      • http://www.GiftedCollector.com Nancy Abrams

Do you also think she is faking the breast feeding?

        • emily mcginnis

You can actually train your body to do that. It wouldn’t be the first time. Just sayin’.

    • kaycem

i hate both of the necklaces and think something closer to the neck (but still large-ish scale) would’ve been best. everything else is pretty cute, though.

    • nannypoo

I hate this length on everyone, tall or short, and wish it would go away. It is never flattering on anyone. Also I do not get the necklace. It looks like the emblem of some country’s air force. But the color is great on her, and that face – OMG she is beautiful.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=11518328 Kim Sheehan

is Victoria Beckham standing on street corners giving out clothes?

    • lalahartma

She should buy actual ‘thunderbird’ jewelry.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

She looks *lovely* – and it’s hardly her fault, but those shoes don’t photograph well at all, do they?

I loved those shoes in the photo lol- i liked them less once i saw them in the designer’s photo.

    • MilaXX

Agreed, one necklace, a little more room across the hips and take an inch or 2 off the hem.

    • SapphoPoet

I like this. And this is the look that Christina Hendricks should be wearing.

I’d have glowed too if I’d had nannies for my babies, stylists for all my clothes, hair and makeup needs, personal trainers who came to my penthouse (I wish), and an army of household help.  Can’t imagine what the average new mom has to shell out for a babysitter these days.

      • formerlyAnon

You left out state-of-the-art & if desired, custom constructed to your current measurements, undergarments. THOSE make a big difference a few months postpartum.

        edited for word choice

      • http://mllesatine.dreamwidth.org/ mllesatine

QFT. Her look (although fantastic) has got nothing to do with her child or the work that goes into raising one.

As much as I enjoy joking about Posh, I have to admit that she’s put together some attractive, wearable frocks. I LOVE that color, and Beyonce looks lovely-though I agree with my fav gay uncles T and Lo that the accessorizing could be improved.

    • spooki C

Vicky Becks makes some sharp little dresses, almost every time I see one the person wearing it looks great. That said this isn’t my favorite, the fabric looks too denim like and it’s giving me flashbacks to that Britney and Justin double whammy…

    • TheOtherChristina

I seem to be alone, but I like the necklaces. I think this look would have been way too conservative for her with more conventional jewelry.

      Hate the matching nails, though.

      • oohsparkley!

Not alone.  I like it too.

    • quiltrx

Well done, Bey!  Who’s your friend??? (waggles eyebrows)

    • http://www.facebook.com/raweiser Rachel Weiser

Love huh but is her handler smokin’ hot or what?

    • formerlyAnon

Every time I see her I marvel at how pretty she is.

    • http://korilian.livejournal.com/ korilian

I’m guessing motherhood agrees with her because she can afford an army of live-in nannies. Lack of sleep agrees with no one.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I love Bey and think mother hood is great for her, but I pray she stops dressing in everything blue (including her toe nails and fingernails) all in the name of Blue Ivy.  Love the look though.

    • jw_ny

Agree that the length should be to or above her knee.  She looks pretty great in spite of that (doubling up on the spanks? hehe)  Love the necklaces paired with this dress…kind of dislike the shoes paired with the outfit, although I rather like them.  All in all, she looks pretty, happy and healthy.  :)

    • Diego!

She looks nice, but let me tell you something, and I know a lot of you will go mad, but it’s clear she’s never been pregnant.

Her body looks way better she gave birth to her baby and I can’t understand even how Mariah is still losing weight after a year of her babies were born and Beyonce in less than a month looks better than ever.

Sorry but I’m still not buying she was pregnant. No can’t do!

      • Laylalola

I really wasn’t into that whole conspiracy until these photos — it’s only 10 weeks after delivery, and her rep says she’s lost all of the pregnancy weight PLUS an additional 10 pounds. I know she’s a celebrity with all sorts of access to prepared meals, full-time workout trainers, surgery, etc. But Come. On. She’s a woman over 30, and she just had a baby, and her body is toned toned toned toned. A woman over 30 — nevermind having just given birth — is doing great to lose just that first 10 pounds in 10 weeks. If Beyonce gained 30 pounds and lost all that plus an additional 10, she’s losing 3 to 4 pounds a week AND 100 percent-plus firmed back up.

    • http://twitter.com/SingingJosie Josie Thames

Looking at Beyonce in all her fabulicious glory just drives home the fact that Christina Hendricks is determined to not look nice.  I mean, sure, Beyonce’s lady parts aren’t as, um, large as Christina’s, but the idea is still there.  Christina could totally wear this look, and look beautiful.  Way to go, Beyonce, for showing the world how gorgeous curvy girls should dress!

    • Call me Bee

Yeah–the skirt length is off–making her legs look…pudgy!  The young gals that are so used to wearing micro-minis just don’t know how to wear knee-length.  The most flattering is either just at the knee, just below the knee or just below the calf.  Anything that hits right at the calf makes them look huge.  This I know…
And I like the two necklaces.  Either one alone would have been cliche, but together they make a statement.

    • TheOriginalLulu

She definitely looks beautiful and glowy. Gotta give her that. The dress and her body look great.

      But I have questions.
Is blue going to be her signature color from now on?
Is she going to trademark the color so that nobody else can wear it?
      Enquiring minds want to know.

    • Lilak

No problems with this look at all . . . I just wish she didn’t have a hand fastened to her thigh every time she’s out being fashion-y and there are cameras about.   No need, girl, no need!
