Beyonce in NYC

Posted on March 30, 2012

Hey, Miss Bey!

Beyonce Knowles out and about in NYC wearing a Michael Kors top paired with Etro skirt. Bag by Alexander Wang.

Alexander Wang ‘Devere’ Shoulder Bag

Listen, we’re only on our second cup, which is NOWHERE NEAR enough coffee juice to get us started anymore, so we’re gonna keep this quick because stringing words together is difficult right very now. Look at you, all bright and sunny! This is kind of a lot for our delicate sensibilities to take and you can count on one hand the number of times we actually approved of a woman in a fedora (Carmen Sandiego notwithstanding), which is a statement sure to get lots of fedora-wearing women with pitchforks storming the gates of T Lo Manse, but that’s the price for being both fabulous and opinionated. Anyway, what we’re trying to say is that despite our reservations about lady fedoras and skirts that look like bedspreads, we’re totally digging the fun, upbeat, springtime vibe going on here.

I just wish that skirt weren’t dragging on the ground.  Otherwise, very cute.

  • Right now, Solange is like “Where is that Etro skirt I bought? I left it in Bey’s car…”

    • I was thinking the same thing! This is totally a Solange outfit, who would have thought Big Sis would be biting her style?!

    • suzanne77

I was like, she’s been shopping with Solange! Hahaha! Great minds.

  • piecesofconfetti

I like it! And she looks comfortable. I’m not digging the bag, though.

  • That skirt looks like it’s made from the same fabric PR S9’s Joshua used in his fnal collection o.o

  • Alisa Rivera

Pretty colors but that skirt stumpifies her, the hat has no relation to what she’s wearing, and rabbit’s feet on the purse? Really?

    •  Her head doesn’t match the rest of her, and the shoes and the barfulous bag contradict the warm-weather vibe of the skirt and top…

  • NC_Meg

This is straight up Denise Huxtable. (It might be a little bright for Denise but she’s the first thing that came to my mind upon seeing those glasses and that hat.)

    • Oh my gosh, that’s so true, but the first thing I thought of when I saw round glasses and the lady fedora was Spy vs. Spy. 🙂

      • funkycamper

And Spy vs. Spy were dressed better.  Maybe I could get on board without the hat, different shoes and bag but, as it is, it’s a helter-skelter mess.

    • juliamargaret

  • Hate the shoes but love everything else. Could she be more fabulous?

  • I think this outfit is missing a belt. Just to give the look a bit of balance. And maybe a dark necklace. Not feeling the bag, earrings nor the glasses.

  • nancylee61

That fedora makes her forehead look HUUUUGGGGEEE!! Too much, too much.

  • ccm800

abhor that bag! But everything else is adorable.

  • joancarol

Wrap-around skirt!  I used to have a closet full of them!  Although I once played a pop-up basketball game, and my skirt fell off.

  • miagain

Fun… but jeezy peezy, that bag doesn’t go with that skirt!!

  • Wow… I dont like any of that outfit… at least not together.

  • MsOlympia

That lovely, genuine-looking smile makes what could EASILY be a tacky mess look cheerful and vibrant.

  • AC

It looks like she picked this from Solange’s closet. Not bad, just…different.

  • It’s probably the flash from the cameras, but you can see the outline of her bra quite well and it’s DRIVING ME CRAZY.

  • The fedora looks out of place, mostly because it’s black. A lighter color (even tan) would be fine, though a big old-lady-gardening hat with a big flower on it would give this outfit some “Jessica Fletcher realness.”

    • You had me at “Jessica Fletcher realness.” ROTFL!

  • janetjb

She looks terrific and much slimmer than when she wears skin tight dresses.

After some caffiene I might change my mind, but for now she’s looking pretty.

  • serenitynow02

But her bag is wearing ear muffs!

Hat, shoes, and bag do not go together with the rest of the outfit in any way, shape, or fashion.

    • sisterb67

THANK YOU. I was wondering if I was the only one seeing the “ear muff” thing!

  • In_Stitches

Et-ro is looking might Et-sy.  That skirt looks like a wall hanging at a head shop.

  • shopgirl716

    she looks amazing.

  • lizajane1776

I’m confused. In one shot the skirt is dragging on the ground, or almost. In the last shot it looks like it is up to her ankle. Is that panel across the front just that long?

But a fun look. Love the bag except the rabbit feet.

    • jw_ny

I’m confused too…with the wind, her holding the skirt up, camera angle…I just don’t know.  I’d hate it if the front panel were longer than the rest.

  • I love this look but I think the hat AND sunglasses take it a bit in the crazytown direction. Maybe pick one?

  • Jecca2244

I love that shirt. Kors just such GREAT colors.

  • ballerinawithagun

Etro had a bunch of random left over scarves…Ugly skirt and I love long skirts!
As much as I want to see Beyonce in this style instead of always sequin sexy, this is just wrong.
Made me think of the SNL when Bon Iver comes to visit, so it made me smile. Thank you!

  • suzanne77

She looks happy and glowing and sort of upscale Boho. I likes it. I hate the rabbit’s feet on the purse, that is so 1980’s Spencer’s Gifts AND creepy.

  • That skirt needs to find it’s way to my closet, but she can keep the bag, fedora and shirt (that shade of pink looks hiddy on me!).

  • BrooklynBomber

She looks great, however odd that outfit is. But I doubt you have to worry about lots of fedora-wearing women storming the gates of TLo International — I don’t think there are that many fedora-wearing women.

  • butterflysunita

I love it.  And she looks so happy.

  • nannypoo

This looks includes a whole lot of odd choices that add up to a very bad outfit.

  • She looks like a modern Orthodox Jewish mom from Borrklyn. Which is not a bad thing, but super funny to me.

    • Jessica Goldstein

All but the earrings, eh? Funny and true observation.

  • PastryGoddess

Now I have the Carmen Sandiego theme running through my head…

  • NurseEllen

The girls need better support than they now have……you are postpartum, Mrs. Z, get used to your changed shape.  Plus I think a belt would have defined the waist better and made the whole look less thrown together.  I love a woman who can wear a hat well, but right now she is not that woman.  Don’t know if it’s the style or the fit but it’s not working.  But she does have that “devil-may-care” attitude, which is a big plus.

    • Linda Woodland

You know, I had a really hard time finding good support while nursing. Drove me nuts that my boobs grew so many cup sizes and were so effing heavy, and yet it was impossible to find a nursing bra that supported anything. I’d cut her some slack, even though she has way more resources for nursing bras than I ever did.

  • Connie Brandan Verzak

I’m going to chalk this one up to you kids not having enough coffee to keep your eyes open, otherwise you would have seen this mad Christina Hendricks bag lady look for what it is. OUT.

  • GorgeousThings

I don’t mind the fedora. I’m not grooving on those sunglasses on her. They don’t look bad, they just don’t do anything for her.

  • Judy_J

The print on that skirt is pretty wild, and the shocking pink blouse almost hurts my eyes, but you know what?  She’s pulling it off, because she’s wearing that unbeatable fashion accessory…..a big smile!

  • R. L.

I’m digging it too.  She’s a ray of light on a gloomy morning.

  • girliecue

I’d like it better if we could see more of her bodyguard. Since the discovery of the Ginger Handler I’ve been paying a LOT more attention to the background in celebrity snaps.

    • Hah! I just said the same thing. He’s on full view in the TLo post of her in the blue dress…very attractive indeed.

One of the usual tremendously witty PUFs said something along the lines of “Well, Jay Z has certainly had some work done.” Ha ha!

  • cmb92191

With the fedora, funky shaped glasses and that print.. I could have sworn it was Lisa Bonet circa 1989.

  • IAmJ

She is glowing and I love her, but not quite digging the sunglasses or the hat so much.

  • I just can’t with a skirt that looks like my pioneer ancestors’ patchwork quilts.  I had that quilt on my bed as a kid and I’m still scarred.

  • Sophie Collier

Girlfriend is gonna trip on that skirt (first photo) but if anyone can work that much color, volume and silhouette, it will be Beyonce. And she looks AMAZING for a new mom.

  • missinmass

You wear a hat straight on your head not on the back of your head. Rachel Zoe does it too. Drives me nuts.

  • sweetlilvoice

Love it…it’s so bright and cheery!

  • jw_ny

I appreciate bright colors and having fun with fashion & clothes, etc….but I think there are 1 or 2 too many eye catching pieces here…it’s an awfully busy outfit overall.  Also, I really dislike that shaped sunglasses on her, and don’t think the shoes and bag go with the outfit at all.  A neutral sandal wedge would have been better.

  • aimee_parrott

The skirt’s too long and I’m not wild about the hat, either, but she looks cute.

BTW, I haven’t seen any marauding bands of fedora-ladies lately, so I think you’re safe at Chez TLo. 😉

  • VicksieDo

But what’s with the sunglasses at night???

    • I suspect the same reason you see people at NYFW in them…the flash from all those cameras tends to get pretty intense. I imagine there’s a ton of paparazzi following her…

  • Cathy S

I love her hat, but I’m not feeling the rest of it at all. She looks vibrant and happy though.

  • LuisaNL

    uh, no.

  • Girl, that’s almost but not quite your hat?

  • TheOtherChristina

I don’t like any of this, but I can’t get mad at her because she looks so damned happy. Love her.

  • MilaXX

Love everything but the rabbit feet on the bag. Would totally wear everything except said rabbit feet and the fedora.

    • so weird with the rabbit feet. Totally don’t get that. Very strange bag.

  • TheOriginalLulu

I’m relieved to learn that she hasn’t decided to wear blue exclusively from now on, but it’s possible that she’s just going to make sure SOME part of her outfit is blue. I do like the skirt, even though it’s dragging on the ground, but then I’m a fan of Etro’s wacky bright prints. I’m not sure she needed such a bright top as well, though. There’s entirely too much going on with her head, what with the hat, giant shades and gigantic hoops. She’s an eyesore.

  • MissMariRose

I love everything but the bag. Let’s face it, though, it’s her beautiful smile that really sells this outfit.

    You go, B!

  • You know, I think I would like this better if she didn’t wear the hat so high on her forehead and if she wore fun white sneakers or casual flats instead of those black heels. Otherwise = fun!

  • holdmewhileimnaked

hat’s great, glasses are great, shirt is fine, skirt is dreadful & could be immediately bettered by buying one of real vintage not of, how you say, faux. otoh, carrying a nearly thousand buck bag created by someone who is currently up against sweatshop semi-slavery charges is never a good idea, not here, not for anyone.

  • Um. . . absolutely not

  • This is the definition of WERQ.

She’s not wearing a single thing I don’t hate, but she’s working it like it’s the last job in the world.  ATTITUDE, SHE HAZ IT.  You go Bey.

  • MK looooves neons that practically glow in the dark, huh?

I love fedoras, but eh, I’ve gotten over my disagreements with TLo since I also love high-heeled mary janes and pretty much exclusively wear stacked heels.

Not sure I like where the skirt sits on her, but she’s serving up some Macy Gray shit better than Macy ever did it.

  • gabbilevy

Having THAT on my bedspread would give me seizures. But it makes for a nice skirt for Miz Sasha Fierce when she goes yachting in the Caribbean.

  • Adriana_Paula

Why is her bag wearing two merkins?

  • librarygrrl64

What the hell is growing out of the sides of that handbag?

  • That skirt looks like something I pieced together when I was thirteen. By hand. Oy.

  • cleep1000

No. Just no. But her body looks incredible.

  • SheWhoMustBeObeyed

Really? Cuz the outfit’s got me thinking about my grandma in Boca.

  • Lisa

It’s very “Culture Club Fan in the ’80s”.  Plus she needs a better bra.

  • MinasAunt

It’s okay–looks very 80s, but it would look better with sandals and the purse it’s not right for this.

  • jen

I don’t know where she is or where she’s headed, but this looks to me like an early morning, maybe the baby kept her up and maybe she’s got to go somewhere and she knows her picture’s gonna get snapped so she does the best she can in a hurry….throw something really comfortable on, pull the hair back and hide the tired under a hat, some sunglasses…throw on some gloss and some earrings and there you go. good enough. and for a new mom, it is good enough.and  she looks happy.

  • jen

actually, i think these pics were taken at 2 different times of day because it looks dark out in the last two….and she’s got her skirt rolled up in those…that explains why the length looks different….maybe she tripped on it earlier in the day

  • j_anson

    Oh, oh… no.

  • Forget Beyonce…I want her fabulously well dressed Chocolate Handler. Gaga can keep her Ginger Handler, and I’ll take this one. (yes, I know his face isn’t shown in this set, but he was in the last Bey post where she was in the blue dress. Hot. Believe me.)

  • stacey avelar

    oh dudes, I had that skirt….in 1975!

  • Looks like she’s making a run to Hobby Lobby for some more yarn.

  • guest2visits

I think this is a fresh and pretty look. Like.

  • rockin’ the denise huxtable circa ‘a different world’.  love it.

  • Nora Mulllin

She looks like she’s wearing a quilt that went on an acid trip. I’m all for spring but this is not it.

  • ri_dic

She totally glows. However, Marion Cotillard is the only one I have seen who can sport a fedora without looking like she’s trying too hard. (And totally gorgeous at the same time.)

  • Cheri Lee

She is looking very Solange-esque. To me this look screams “I’m actually taking care of my baby and therefore had no time to put together a fierce look.”

Then again, what celebrity actually takes care of their own kids?!?!

  • mozzer0906

It has to be said, her boobs look fantastic.  Brava for her for finding a good supportive undergarment that make her girls look spectacular.  Beyonce can get away with this outfit, I like it, she looks happy and bright.

  • bitterk

    Very SOlange indeed
