ASOS Spring 2012 Lookbook

Posted on March 20, 2012

Okay, boys, whip ‘em out!

Ew. We were talking about your credit cards, you sickos. It’s your turn to do some imaginary (or possibly real) shopping.

ASOS informs us that their men’s core trends include:

Laurel Canyon – A modern take on vintage Americana and 1970’s West Coast inspirations
Mount Fuji – A combination of military detailing and references from the eco friendly Fuji Rock festival
Ocean Blue – A distinct outdoor feel that fuses functionality with classic Nordic sea-wear
Tailoring – A soft, more unstructured approach to Italian street style suiting and shirts

All we know is, there are some cute pieces here and we wants them, precious. Of course, some of it gets a little twinkalicious, meaning we’re self-aware just enough to never even think of trying them on, but we dig the overall cool, unstructured, slightly Euro vibe with American touches. We don’t think any of the prints are for us, but those solid-color jackets? We are so there.

Okay, that model looks pasty and sickly…..

    • alyce1213

5th Row – MY EYES!!!!  Gawd, no.

      • NinaBoo

They look like something Blaine from Glee would wear.  During the summer, of course.

        • save_the_hobbit

Those have Blaine Anderson written all over them.

    • miagain

I had a Benetton sweater, circa 1986 that looked suspiciously like the last one in the bottom row!!

    • Susan Crawford

I immediately had a vision of Brad Goretski kicking and clawing his way to the shop to stock up – this is definitely a collection someone like Brad would be all up into. Very cute attire on some very cute boys.

    • MilaXX

cute. I like this collection a lot. I wouldn’t mind having that last sweater myself.

      • Vera

I like it too.  Reminds me of the Cosby sweaters.

    • Horacio Lom Bonilla

How do you know if something is too twinkalicious for you? I’m 26 and I would wear all of these looks…

      • JosephLamour

I know, right? I’m 28… but I think we still qualify as twinks cause I would wear all of this. They should consult Mondo about pattern mixing though, cause some of these things together are making my eyes take the night off.

    • Tadiana Walton Jones

I will never in my life be able to take seriously a guy in a suit jacket and shorts.

    • Blake

Is this the guy who designs for Blaine on Glee?

      • NinaBoo

I just commented the same thing to alyce1213.  Blaine’s summer wardrobe.

        • Lisa

I just posted above that Kurt Hummel would make fun!  Hah!  Great minds and all that!

    • TheOtherChristina

Love that sweater on the right in the first row. There are some eye-popping (and/or eye-rolling) combinations here but a lot of great pieces. My love for ASOS knows no bounds, and the fact that it’s in my price bracket only amplifies my ardor.

    • hughman

Oh hell no. This puts the twee in tweeker. I’m out.

    • Lisa

Oh, come on!  Kurt Hummel would point and laugh at these guys!  No way!

      • save_the_hobbit

Sadly Blaine would be first in line to buy these.

    • Vera

A lot of the peppy young men–and some older–here in Charleston, SC rock similar looks almost year ’round.

      • boweryboy

Oh girl, you gotta hook a brother up.

Whenever I visit my parents in Charleston all I see are guys -black and white alike – with jeans sagging off their asses and tank tops down to their knees.  To say nothing of the bling…good god the bling.

        • Vera

Of course, there are more guys with the saggy jeans, tanks tops, and bling *sigh,* but there are the preppy guys too.

    • serenitynow02

Some of the jackets are cute for the 20-something crowd, but I’m afraid that a lot of this just makes me giggle (at it, not with it).

    • lalahartma

Most of those shorts are terrible.

    • Me Again

The tank top with plunging neck trend needs to die.

    • sleepycat

I want everything…Only to be lean and wealthy, both things i will never be T.T

    • holdmewhileimnaked

i see the twink but i like the pink, particularly the pastel pants.
in other news, the faded mexican blanket stuff can be bought right here, right now at any thriftstore in LA [if things are ordinary w/ the world, as they usually are].

    • Bridget Smith

Ladies, let’s talk ASOS. Their dresses are seriously adorable – some great basics plus some more interesting stuff, all at a very nice price – but I’ve returned the three things I’ve bought from them for being poorly sized and/or really cheap looking. One was so terrible on that, for the sake of my self-esteem, I had to stop looking in the mirror before I could figure out quite what was wrong. Anyone had any success? Got any tips for shopping with them?

    • quiltrx

Some of this comes off pretty douchey…like clothes for James Spader in Pretty in Pink.

    • ccm800

I’m with TLo all the way on this…except the one print I Love is the striped and yellow sweater on the bottom row. Ohh!

    • boweryboy

I think I’m too old and not gay enough to pull off any of these.   Though some of it is cute.

      • Melvis Velour

        It’s the guys…

    • fallen_ikon

the last one in row #5 just looks like he forgot to put pants on.

    • rketeckt

      ASOS = Blaine Anderson = Twinkaliscious.  Honey…no.

    • NJScor72

I love it when they style models in totally impractical looks – sweater, shirt and jacket… with a pair of shorts… it’s like when women wear short skirts with Uggs… summer sweaters always look good in print, but they just don’t have any use in the real world.

      • Derek_anny

You must not live in an arid climate.  It get’s relatively cold at night.  Going from 90 in the day to 65ish in the evening is freezing.

    • Trevor Burroughs

That sweater (?) in the very last picture is to die for. I think I’d love that piece.

    • Trevor Burroughs

That sweater (?) in the very last picture is to die for. I think I’d love that piece.

    • Terence Ng

      …Damn. That’s nice.

    • CatherineRhodes

The Gant collection was much better.

    • formerlyAnon

That first sweater? All the “cool” moms had a shawl collar sweater in those colors & a similar pattern back when Valerie Bertinelli was America’s teen sweetheart.

There are good pieces here. But overall . . . what is the word for “twee” in menswear? (in my mind, twinkalicious isn’t quite the mot juste, but I’m willing to be corrected by the males of the commentariat.)
