WERQ: Keira Knightley in Burberry Prorsum

Posted on February 02, 2012

A big part of being stylish is knowing what works on you, and girl?

Keira Knightley attends the premiere of “A Dangerous Method” in London in a Burberry Prorsum gown.

    LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anonymous

Enough with the duckface, beautiful Keira! She looks fantastic here, though.

    • if she would only smile….

    • Anonymous

She’s been holding the duckface for too long.  I’m afraid it’s stuck that way.  It’s very sad.

    • I think that’s actually just the way her face is–she has those really exaggerated cheekbones that make it LOOK like she is sucking her cheeks in and pursing her lips.

      • Anonymous

Sometimes she actually doesn’t look like that.  If she’d relax her face and learn how to smile (and eat a sandwich now and again) she’d be quite beautiful.  I still would think she’s not much of an actress. though. 🙂

        • Anonymous

I liked her in A Dangerous Method, actually. The accent was maybe a bit much, but I really believed her enthusiasm for all the highly intellectual psychoanalytic stuff, as well as the complex relationship between her and Fassy as Jung.

Here I think the hairstyle is making the duckface worse–it’s making her face shorter and squarer and emphasizing the shape she insists on making with her mouth.

      • It almost looks like she’s biting the inside of her cheeks to get that effect. When she’s talking, she definitely doesn’t have cheekbones like that.

    • I think her face is frozen like that. Literally.

    • Anonymous

Seriously. Her cheekbones are already lovely, there’s just no need for the rest.

  • Anonymous

What you call a perfect “English Rose.”

  • Anonymous

She looks gorgeous, but I can’t stand her duckface.  Kind of ruins it for me.  Still, a definite WERQ.

    • agreed

    • Anonymous

I know. I wish she’d stop doing that.

  • Well, have to admit, I love the dress and the make-up, if not the hair. HHHHATE the pouty-mouth, though. Ugh…

  • WERQ! however, 2 words: Dress Sheilds

    • are you sure that’s not lighting on the fabric? Kind of looks like that to me.

      • Look at the second picture of her. That is so not lights / shadows. That is SWEAT.

        • Anonymous

I’m not seeing it. Especially not in the second picture.

        • Anonymous

Nope, it’s a shadow.  Check the next picture – it’s not there.

          • It is in the next picture and it’s sweat. That part wouldn’t catch shadows because the camera flash is straight on.  So it is sweat.

  • Anonymous

That dress could so easily look like shit on a stick on someone else, which makes it that much better that some savvy stylist put these two together.

  • Anonymous

I cannot stand this woman, but I can’t disagree with what you say…

  • She is too beautiful.

  • MilaXX

LOVE it, you better WERQ gurl!

  • Anonymous

Fab color on her!  At first I wasn’t crazy about the sash, but I doubt the dress would work without it.

  • Stunning color on her!

  • Anonymous

Hate the hair, hate the brows, hate the dress – a trifecta ….swore this was going to be a GTINYD post. (PS. Also hated the movie.)

  • She always gives the equivalent of, I don’t know, English Duck Lips, in her photos, but she is Werq-ing the crap out of that dress. Not mad at all- looks like it was made for her.

  • Anonymous

That’s a pretty darned perfect look for her.

  • Anonymous

    flawless. literally, flawless

  • Sara__B

She looks striking in that gown, but what’s that
pulled-in-at-the-corners thing that she and lots of other young celebs do
with their mouths? Does it pop their cheekbones? Avoid wrinkle-making expressions? Hide true feelings? She didn’t do that when she was younger — I
just spent a quick minute looking at photos — so why now?

    • Anonymous

She is kind of the queen of doing that face…it is so weird and I can never tell if her face just naturally does that or if she holds the upper part of her nose in ‘just about to sneeze’ mode all the time.  I find her lovely, regardless, but it has always irked me.  I think it was less noticeable when she was younger because she was more smile-y. I’ve thought about this entirely too much

      • Anonymous

That’s exactly it. Instead of sucking in her cheeks, she sucks in her nose. My friend is high school was a master at mimicking the Keira pout. I could barely watch Pirates of the Caribbean because of it! She is so gorgeous though and I love her demure sense of style, so I can forgive it now.

      • Anonymous

I think she does it on purpose, but the contours of her face really emphasize it. It’s also even more annoying because she so doesn’t NEED it–she already has amazing cheekbones and pretty full lips! I think the point is usually to create contour that isn’t naturally there, and she is just FINE with her ACTUAL FACE.

  • Anonymous

    LOVE it.

  • She looks great!  Love the color.

  • Ugh I love it. She is more well-dressed and put together than all those ladies at the SAG awards. The red carpet loves her, it’s a shame she doesn’t go out all that much, so it’s always great to see her.

  • Anonymous

That timid keyhole takes it from WERQ to a solid IN for me. Would look better without it.

    • Anonymous

Man, I disagree–I think if it were solid fabric all the way up to her neck she’d look like a very elegant sister-wife.

      • Anonymous

I saw the back in another photo and if I’m remembering correctly it’s totally open, which would have saved it from being too sister-wife. But I like the keyhole.

Interesting that in the movie poster her face and boobs are rounder than they seem to be in real life.

        • Corsets! Corsets do astonishing things, as you can see on her in Pirates of the Caribbean. (Possibly some Photoshop as well, but she was so famously and so vocally angry when they enhanced her bust for the King Arthur poster that I can’t imagine there’s that much of that here.)

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Fantastic color on her, love the makeup.  Gorgeous!

  • Susana Reyes

    she looks great.

  • Finally, a true WERQ. And tone down the duck lip dear.

  • Anonymous

  • Anonymous

She’s beautiful. I still think about her stomping around her emerald gown in “Atonement”.

    • Anonymous

I need to own that gown. It was a thing of wonder.

  • Love the color on her, but a WERQ?  Not really.  She just seems to be standing there.  She’s not working the shit out of it.

  • Anonymous

Divine!  It’s a fabulous color for her and I like the sleeves.  I’m sick of super bare dresses on the RC.  This is a refreshing change.

  • oohsparkley!

I  agree Werq!  The trouty pouty is too much.  And the hair is suspect, but still werqs.

  • Anonymous

Am I the only one who sees “sister wife”-formal?

  • Anonymous

She looks amazing here. She was TERRIBLE in the movie.

  • Lexie

Gorgeous. I love her eye makeup. Needs to relax her mouth, as usual, but she looks head-to-toe fantastic.

  • Anonymous

I wish she’d stop making that face.

  • kimberlini

Kiera is fine but WTF with the model?  Is she from the circus stilts competition on PR??

    • Anonymous

She must be standing on a box, right?  No human being is proportioned that way.

    • Anonymous

I’m also wondering how that torso can possibly hold adult-size organs.

  • Anonymous

That keyhole slit is about as necessary as the split in a pair of split pants.

  • Anonymous

Do not like it at all – everything is wrong IMHO.

  • Keira is doing her ‘suck-in-cheeks’ face again 🙁 but the outfit is very pretty.

  • Anonymous

This dress is such a refreshing tonic after so much glitz, glitter, and oragami. (I do love a sparkle, don’t get me wrong.)

She carries off the elegant simplicity of this gown without being boring. The color is amazing on her. The belt, while not totally to my taste, adds a bit of feminine fun. WERQ it!

  • Anonymous

    Wow, love this!

  • Anonymous

I freaking HATE her stupid duckface…she seems to think squinting, pursing your lips, and sucking in your cheeks is somehow associated with acting.

That being said, I can appreciate a lovely dress when I see one.  Lop off her head and it’s perfect. 🙂

  • butter nut

totally her dress.  she should buy it in every color.

  • Anonymous

Definitely a WERQ moment. And she’s not even putting in all that much effort.

  • Lovely. The color is divine. And she doesn’t look emaciated for a change.

  • She is so stunning.  This dress covers the collar bones of doom, and the makeup and hair are perfect.

  • Anonymous

I’m on the fence. The color is gorgeous on her and I love it from the waist up, particularly the sleeves, but something about it feels kind of matronly and dowdy to me. Maybe it’s the length or the way that skirt just looks heavy and a little like Ma Ingalls’ skirts? I don’t know. I like it but it isn’t a WERQ for me.

The duckface is hilarious. What’s up with that? Look at her pic in the poster behind her. No duckface. Gorgeous girl.

  • That dress was, like, woven, dyed, cut, and SEWN with her in mind.

  • Judy_J

She looks good, but I like the sleeves on the runway version better. I especially love that belt.

  • Anonymous

She and I have similar coloring, and this sort of brown-maroon-burgundy is one of my favorite colors to wear. I think she looks fabulous, although this style of bangs is maybe not the best for her face.

  • Presumptuous Insect

What the hell is going on with her mouth?  She’s gonna get whiplash or something from the strain.

  • Renee Thomas

Wow. As near to perfection as an RC outfit can get. Right dress on the right girl, right color, beautiful make-up and hair. Plus, she looks comfortable and we can still see HER, not just the dress.

  • Anonymous

Agree, the dress looks fantastic, but what’s with the weird lip-pursing?

  • Um, what’s up with that model wearing the original? She looks like a stilt walker.

  • Anonymous

I don’t like what she seems to think she needs to do with her mouth in every picture, but the dress looks great on her.

  • Anonymous

Beautiful, but she will never look more beautiful than she did in that green dress in Atonement. Now I’m going to go to my bathroom mirror and practice sucking my face in.

  • Anonymous

DRESS SHIELDS!!! That’s sweat! Not shadows.

Sweat aside, I’m still not crazy about the look. The eyes are too heavy, the top feels a bit limp, the skirt needs to be hemmed, and the velvet bow drives me nuts (I’m not opposed to the belt or the fact that it’s a bow. Just hate the material)

    • Anonymous

If if you argue that it’s shadows and the fabric, that’s just as bad. I don’t want to wear a dress that makes me look like I’m sweating.

I will say that I love the back of the dress (which isn’t shown here).

  • Anonymous

Outstanding!  But do I spy sweat stains? Or is the lighting messing with me?

  • CQAussie

Fantastic dress!  She looks great but what is with the lips?  Her lips always look like that…..I don’t get it…

  •  That dress has an open back and E! had a whole story about how she had a splotchy spray tan.  I don’t think so, it looks more like shadows or birthmark.  It’s SO faint though.  Judge for yourselves:

  • Anonymous

Not bad, I don’t even like her but I can’t help but love that outfit and styling, very well played.

  • Anonymous

Why the permanent pucker? This dress looks great on her.

  • She is just a truly unique looking young woman who really knows what looks good on her. If I saw that dress in the store I would be all, ‘yuck. maroon with a black bow? wtf?’ But just look at her – it’s perfect and lovely. She gets a WERQ not just for looking perfect but for wearing something that most could never dare to wear.

  • Wrenaria

    Such a pretty girl. Lovely.

  • marilyn

It looks better on the runway model.  The sleeves on that dress are larger, and her belt is different.  Keira made it look kind of dowdy.

  • Anonymous

Why doesn’t she smile for chrissakes?

  • Anonymous

  • Anonymous

I love everything but her non-smile. Seriously, that photographer she cited who told her never to smile because it’s “ugly” should be kicked out of the business. That one shot a few weeks back with her beautiful smile changed everything. Here, she just looks like she’s sucking in her cheeks. It ruins what otherwise was a perfect look.

  • Anonymous

Must be strange for these actresses to stand in front of posters of themselves all photoshoped up.

  • Call me Bee

She is absolutely adorable.  Dontcha just wanna squeeze her cheeks?

  • Anonymous

nice. I hate that little circle left behind from the lip augmentation to remove the “peak” of the upper lip that u see on so many. Its ridiculous.

  • Perfect. She looks better than the model.

  • That is a LOT of makeup and duckface, but she is werq’ing the hell out of that gown.

  • there’s a reason her green atonement dress is so well remembered; simple and striking looks suit her to a T.

  • Anonymous

  • Brad and Anne White

That model looks like she’s missing half her body from the belt to the purse. I know she’s thin, but it doesn’t even match up. Bad Photoshoppers.

  • R. L.

    Super cute look for her.

  • Anonymous

She always looks amazing in pieces that have a vintage period movie kind of feel. Perfecto.

  • Anonymous

Such a stunning girl. Gorgeous dress. She really does now what works for her and how to work it best. And I don’t see duckface here, tbh, her face’s bone structure makes her look a bit pouty, I think.

  • Love the accessories. Like the shade on the model better but I agree that this colour suits Keira fabulously.

  • Also love it. It’s not the same as what Lady Mary wore to one of the awards last year though is it?

  • Anonymous

I think we’ll be seeing Cathy Cambridge in this number…

  • She looks great but would it kill her to un-purse her lips once in awhile?!

  • it looks better on her than it does on the model – must be rough to be a top actress and have those looks too…

  • dying.

  • Anonymous

She is going for a signature look, because on the poster behind her, she looks like Rachel Mcwhatherface…so she went for the duck look to get the , “Oh, it’s Keira”

  • Anonymous

For my dollars, in terms of a face, this is one of the most beautiful women in the world.  An amazing visage and she looks beautiful here.  The vision of her as a bride in Love Actually is the face that lauched a thousand ships.  Angelina gets all the buzz for being this that and the other but Keira rules in terms of features.  Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous. Don’t love the poofy sleeves but love love love that color that tends to look great on just about anyone — lovely.

  • Anonymous

She has the ideal shape for vintage and vintage-inspired 1920s-1940s fashions. Well done.

  • Anonymous

    Wow!! She looks beautiful!
I would like to note that she’s not actually doing the duckface of Facebook notoriety here. This facial expression is more like she was told to imagine that she’s sucking on a lemon. It’s slightly different in that the lips are gently pursed rather than forced as far out of the face as possible as seen in the more traditional duckface.

  • Hmmm… looks too big and is a bit long on her? She’s pretty and delicate so it sort of works but WERQ worthy? Not for me.
