WERQ: Jennifer Aniston in Tom Ford

Posted on February 17, 2012

Long time readers are granted a few moments to get over their shock. God knows we needed some time.

But look:

Jennifer Aniston at the premiere of “Wanderlust” in Westwood, California in a Tom Ford Spring 2012 dress.

Tom Ford Spring 2012 Collection

Look at how stylish this is! Look at how it actually has design elements and a thinking behind it other than “show as much leg and boob as legally possible!” Look at how it has a shape of its own, independent of Jen’s bod filling it out! Look at how it’s got textural qualities and visual interest beyond “wrap my boobs in something sparkly and black!” Oh, JEN. We’re so happy for you that you discovered fashion! You WERQ that interesting frock, girl!

But we just know you’re going to disappoint us next time.

I am SHOCKED at the TLo love myself. But indeed I really love this dress too. But now that she’s discovered fashion, can she discover a new haircut/stylist? cause bedhead isnt working after 15 years straight of it….

So much focus on her sparkly bathtowels has led to me ignoring the lesser problem that is her hair. It took a good dress and shoe for me to really see it.

    • Anonymous

LOL. I had EXACTLY the same thought!

    • http://twitter.com/Moondragonic Charlotte

Yes, please let’s talk about her hair. She’s had the same sun-bleached hairstyle for years now. Not only is it boring but when she’s pulling of an awesome outfit like this the hair really drags the whole look down.

      • Anonymous

I agree, it always looks like she just came in from the beach and threw on the dress without showering. I’m not sure what she should do with it, but it’s starting to make her look older, in an “I’m going to wear the same hairstyle I had when I was young and hot” way. But she’s still hot, if not young, so she needs to get over it and change it up a tad.

        • Allison Woods

It’s definitely in no way a MODERN look. I’d like to see her lose the layery fringe and go for something a touch more geometric and edgy.

    • Patricia Gillett

You are so right. The current do has NO shape. And I’m so over the color.

  • Anonymous

The dress practically covers her knee.  I am in shock and awe.

  • http://twitter.com/LianaBrooks Liana Brooks

I think I just fell into an alternate universe. You like something Jennifer Aniston wore? Maybe I have a fever? I need to lie down…

–> The dress is visually interesting but I don’t love the hip thing.

  • http://profiles.google.com/dkbbmail Dorrene BrownButterfield

Wow…I’m amazed! It’s the perfect length, it’s visually interesting, and it’s not another LBD! Who knew Jen could actually wear something fun like this?! But I fear you are correct, she’ll disappoint us again all too soon. 😉

    • Anonymous

It is a good surprise to see that she’s capable of delighting us, even though we suspect that she’ll be back to the shiny short bath towel look.

  • Anonymous

    AND no nude strappy sandals!!!

    • Anonymous

I extraspecially love the touch of color on the bottom of those shoes. I can’t tell if it’s red or metallic but it’s a nice little bit of color.

      • Anonymous

It looks to me like a reflection of the red carpet, and not a design element.

  • Sam Corbett

I really DON’T mean this in a malicious way… but is it just me, or is she looking more and more like mid-80s Linda Evans every day?

    • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

So, instead of “Oh John…oh Yanni…oh Mitchell!”, we can get “Oh Brad…oh John Mayer…oh Ross!”. I’m totally on board.

    • Anonymous

She’s reminding me of Linda Evans too, but in a “I want to look 27 at 40” kind of way.

Her hairstyle is overdue for a makeover.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Colleen-Kay-Sanceda-Gadon/725256919 Colleen Kay Sanceda Gadon

I think the dress gave her a baby bump.

    • Anonymous

      yup. me too. oddly paunchy.

    • Ann Chatterton

I was thinking the same thing.  She did say that she put on a few pounds recently after quitting smoking.

      • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

And she looks healthier for it. It’s good to see her with some meat on her bones again.

    • Anonymous

hell, the dress gave the MODEL a baby bump.

      • Anonymous

YEAH, THE MIDSECTION WAS A WIERD CHOICE FOR AN OPTICAL TRICK — WOOPS SORRY, TO YELL, didn’t notice caps were locked.  But I do give her props even though it has no sleeves.

    • Anonymous

And a rather larger butt than she has. Bust doesn’t look like it fits that well either.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

She looks great! Stylish, classy AND sexy!! Keep it up, girl! Have always had a soft spot for Jen A. and I don’t even like Friends.

  • Anonymous

If this wasn’t black and white (big surprise from Jen who seems to be paid to the Pantone folks to wear black, white or beige), and another column shaped strapless dress, I might be more excited.  However, as you mention, it isn’t cut up to her ladyparts and it does have some nifty elements, so I’ll just give it an IN. I just can’t co-sign on a WERQ.

    • Anonymous

  • P M

Hee. 2nd last pic down – she’s mooning the photographers 😀

  • Anonymous

WHOA. I didn’t know she was capable of wearing non-naked shoes. Aww, Jen. You make me proud. Sniff.

  • Anonymous

She’s actually dressing her age.  She looks good here.

  • Anonymous

Speechless innit! She just looks so damn good! And age appropriate and sexy and confident! Those shoes are to die, her bum, the fit, the pattern, love it. Well done that girl! …we can gloss over the hair.

  • http://twitter.com/ohmybears48 Michelle Argento

I find this too stiff and I believe it’s giving me a headache. I would have voted this an OUT.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/OCXKBEWXIIY4IJXYQWJM572HOY 2dogmom

Agreed.  This dress makes her look #10lbs overweight and ‘lumpy.’  No idea why everyone else is gushing over it- just because it’s NOT a bathtowel in black doesn’t make it ‘IN.’

  • Anonymous

Can’t make up my mind whether I like this dress or not.  It kind of gives me a visual overload, of sorts – kinda like an optical illusion, or one of the prints that look wonky on t.v.

It is certainly a departure for her though – I’ll give her a WERQ for it! Love the shoes too.

  • Anonymous

Love the dress on her, especially from the back!  Wish it were just a bit shorter.  Some more knee would have been a good thing.  I like JA and think her quite a good actress when the  part requires it — what was it?  Friends with Money?  People with Money?  She was very good in that.  And the one with Paul Rudd — very good in that one too.  The hair is something I wish she would address — such a dated look.  Fried LA hair.  But yeah to the dress.

Tom Ford had much to do with Colin Firth’s second wind as a  photo magnet — maybe TF can bring JA’s persona back to life in a real way.

  • http://www.facebook.com/samuel.j.donovan Samuel Joesph Donovan

WERQ WERQ WERQ WERQQQQQQQ.  Two things I hate–well, one guy I HATE, and a girl I am totally ambivalent about–coming together and KILLING IT.  This is the definition of werqing it, as far as I’m concerned.

  • https://profiles.google.com/104791269167429064986 Judy S

Don’t care for the dress but agree with the WERQ. She looks great.

  • http://twitter.com/VicksieDo VicksieDo

It’s a tad small around the mid-section and behind, and it’s still strapless, but hey, it’s at least an IN.  See Jen, pumps are so much more comfortable than strappy sandals.

  • Anonymous

Who are you and what have you done with my Jennifer Aniston?

  • http://profiles.google.com/misslauraschultz Laura Schultz

Nice! Her butt and her legs look great! Now if she could venture over to non-beige color!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

No fucking way that is knee length.  Obviously the print is an optical illusion making us believe that.

  • http://theargiehome.blogspot.com/ Gus Casals

Great dress, and the look is all about the longer skirt. See how she still shows enough leg to be interesting. The hem/legs/shoes combo is a trifecta of its own.
Hair is a mess, but it’s her thing, so I shouldn’t be asking for more.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Heather-Snedeker-Innis/519824122 Heather Snedeker Innis

As soon as I saw “Tom Ford” in the title of your post, it made sense, without even needing to see the pics. I don’t know what designers she favors most, but has she ever worn Tom Ford? She looks AMAZING. Well, except the bed head.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Cortney-Dean/100002491593625 Cortney Dean

LOVE this on her. So fabulous!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Clydette-Wantland/673315286 Clydette Wantland

    LOVE it.

  • Anonymous

    I love it!!

  • http://twitter.com/Iluvwinona Jason Galloway

Love the dress hate the hair.

  • Anonymous

And yet, I’m not convinced it’s terribly flattering on her. And all those lines are making my monitor and my eyes go all wonky. Still, baby steps and all that….

    • Rebecca Zmarzly

Maybe TLo should start a “Baby Steps” category, featuring those who are making tiny little strides in improving their stereotypical looks, instead of giving them a WERQ! for improving one or two stereotypical mistakes. :)

  • Anonymous

Interesting and cool dress. I can’t believe she would wear something that would highlight or accentuate her curves in that way. I’ll cosign on this WERQ.

  • Anonymous

    Never seen her look better!!!!

  • MilaXX

I think the last time she got a WERQ she pretty much did the same thing, lowered the hem and put on a shoe instead of a strappy sandal. I wish she understood how much better she looks fully clothed. The tiny mini dress are starting to smell desperate.

  • Anonymous

That’s funny because I looked at this and thought, “I can’t defend her anymore.” Chacun a son dress, I guess.

  • Terence Ng

The dress is great, but she needs more polish from the neck up. It looks like she jumped into it after getting out of bed. That may have worked for the metallic minis, but it needs a little more sophistication in styling here…

If this was an In or Out, I’d give her a revise and resubmit.

    • Anonymous

Yes — an R&R is exactly what’s called for here!

    • BerlinerNYC

LOL at “revise and resubmit.” You are giving me PTSD flashbacks to academia!

  • Anonymous

The dress is super cool, the shoes are great with it, but the hair, my GOD the hair! And I hate to say it, but it’s still strapless, which is bugging me more than a little. Overall, I agree with the awarded WERQ, if only just to encourage her to wear more fashion!

  • Anonymous

… and Lucifer’s wearing a down parka this morning.

  • http://lrcutter.livejournal.com/ LRC

I thought I misread the headline when I saw this. And then I thought — but the shoes are probably still a nude sandal, right? I’m still kind of faint at this outfit.

But you’re right — she will disappoint us next time.

  • Anonymous

I gotta say, I hate it.  Or, in TLo-ese, this is soooo not her dress.  Nice try, I guess.

  • Anonymous

dress is great, shes still vanilla

  • Anonymous

The shape and length and fit are great. Maybe the fabric is attractive in person, but on my computer it moves and vibrates like an optical illusion and could probably trigger a seizure if I look at it too long. I am so over her hair and wish she would trim those ratty ends. But, considering how she usually looks, this is definitely WERQ-ish.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_GFMOZFM3WT3T56EZHVZFK7UXSI Ramon

Great dress. She still bores me no end.

  • Anonymous

It’s an inch and a half out of her comfort zone. It’s a great dress, but it’s still a straight-cut strapless sheath; just a lot more interest. No question, she looks great, but let’s not pretend it’s a huge leap.

  • butter nut

*gasp!* it’s age appropriate & goes down to her knees!  i’m surprised she hasn’t burst into flames.

  • Judy_J

Well, wonders never cease!  I’m so proud of Jen for choosing this dress.  She looks sexy and sassy without displaying all that flesh she usually likes to expose. The longer length makes her legs look great.

  • Anonymous

Love it. So interesting! And it’s way better on her than the model! Nice! It’s still another strapless, but what a leap.

  • Anonymous

I am amazed that she’s wearing it longer than the original model AND that she got rid of the slit in the right front.  I think the original model had more front pouch than she does.

  • Anonymous

I was all prepared for a tweed bath towel, but nicely surprised by this fashion tweak.

But…was it really necessary for Jen to bend over and point out her butt and the mud flaps?

  • Anonymous

I actually don’t mind much of her “short tight and shiny” choices, but I have to say this is probably the best I’ve seen her look.

  • Anonymous

I can’t get over how bad it looks on the model. Christ on a cracker, it looks like a herringbone trash bag on her.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1303837450 Lauren Dorsee Dillon

I love this dress. I’ll lose the 20 I need to if she’ll hand it down to me. Please, Jen!

  • Anonymous

No. No WERQ from me.  I give her props for finally wearing something that isn’t a beige bath towel but this is completely unflattering in cut and makes her look like a giant tire tread mark.  Color, Jen, color!

  • Anonymous

While I applaud the dress and the shoes I don’t think it is super flattering around her mid section -but I hate to say anything lest she return to her usual.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PMAPJYMO5AC6GMONR6NQFURAXE bebo

Like the dress alot. but she looks wash out from the next up.

  • Anonymous

Yay! Jenn got a WERK!!! time to celebrate!!!! hahahahha…. Once again, as I saw this in the morning, I asked myself WWTLoS? I think I have a disease :-)

  • Anonymous

She looks FABULOUS!  Whoever put her in this, she needs to not only keep them, but give them a huge bonus and several bouquets of their favorite flowers.

Now she just needs a hair person willing to push her into an updated ‘do.

  • Addicted2Glamour

WERQ, indeed. Now, TLo, can you convince her to have someone work on her hair-do?

    • Anonymous

I hear you on the hair…except I’m not sure what would be an acceptable alternative. Same length but more polished style, a la Kate Middleton or Jolie? Shorter? Updo? I’m at a loss.

      • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

I think she just has crappy hair. Left to its own devices, which it seems she’s been doing for a long time, it’s scraggly and thin. Even that little bit of hair below her shoulders makes it look worse. I think the best thing she could do is take it up to her shoulders and get a severe, blunt cut. I guess she could have a few layers put in instead, but she’s probably afraid she’ll end up with The Rachel again. I don’t think she wants that.

I’ve actually stopped taking her hair into consideration. It’s looked that way for so many years that I barely notice it anymore.

  • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

It’s a great dress, but it’s tough to photograph.

  • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

The hair’s better than usual, too … or is the dress just making everything look good? Now if only Tom could help out his dear friend Julianne Moore a little more often.

  • Anonymous

She’s dressed, not towelled.  Shock!  I don’t want to give a WERQ for effort, though.  Very solid IN from this bitter kitten.

  • Anonymous

An improvement, but not a WERQ. To get a WERQ, she’d have to do something with her hair and maybe, you know, wear a SLEEVE.

  • Anonymous

Agreed. And no naked shoes! Although I do think sleeker hair would have complemented the dress better.

  • Anonymous

Well, ok, it’s a sassy little dress, verry interesting use of the fabric, Ima little disoriented actually…lol…
but…it IS the same same SAME silhouette she always wears. It’s basically her go to look, a little bit stepped up.
But keep on taking those baby steps, Jen, we’re all here rooting for you.

  • Anonymous

Ah, Jen has on big girl shoes and a lovely hemline. Bravo. I’m more interested in what Malin is wearing.

  • Anonymous

At this point, it just looks weird to me b/c I’m not used to seeing her so… chic.

  • Cathy S

Yeah Jen! Now go find another hairstyle and all will be well.

  • Sophie Collier

Maybe she got a new stylist and this is just the beginning.  I do wish the hem was above the knee, but that’s just nitpicking.

  • Anonymous

The only thing different from her usual look is it’s a little longer. Hip flares. Big deal.

  • Anonymous

Now that I’m over my shock that WERQ and Jennifer Anniston can actually be used in the same sentence I do have to agree.  Bien fait, Jen.  Hope it lasts.

  • Anonymous

I don’t really know how I feel about what the hip fins are doing to her shape, but now that I’ve seen the model wearing it I think she is killing it. I mean, look what it did to the model! She looks impossibly insectoid in the weirdest way.

Jennifer Aniston: WERQing that coulda-been-worse shit!

  • Anonymous

Can’t comment as the fabric is giving me a migraine. ugh

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OSYAJATXUH3QX7ZDDF52GXG4PU Janie R

Love the cut of it. Not your basic bath towel today!

  • Anonymous

She looks good. Still dull as ever in hair and shoes, but this is quite the solid baby step.

I still don’t like her, though.

  • aimee_parrott

My god, I can’t even see her thighs!  Bless her.  She looks great.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_26QG22FL4HVT7ZA46F4EE4UEXY amyw

    Her calves are gorgeous.

  • Anonymous

still a bathtowel, just a little longer than she usually wears and without the sparkles

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MN3NQ262BP3YF2RQJ4DYQQBDMA Shalia

Can I call it a WERQ from the boobs down?  I can’t sign onto the hair.

  • Anonymous

That dress is too fabulous and the hemline too appropriate for me to even get tsk-tsk her about her insistence on that same boring-ass hair and the uninteresting shoes.

  • Anonymous

OK the dress is fine, but… that HAIR???

  • Anonymous

I just can’t deal with her. And didn’t she grow that bob out in something like a month? You know, the cut she got because all the Housewives of Reality TV had her long hair style?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

I read an interview with her recently and she said she needed to shake up her style. I thought, “Sweet baby jeebus, she reads TLo.”

  • Anonymous

I do think she looks good here–she still bores me to tears.

  • Anonymous

More shock: I would shorten the dress to just above the knee, or possibly mid-knee.  Never thought I would suggest to Jennifer Anniston to shorten a dress.

  • Anonymous

I like that she doesn’t look super skinny too. But I feel like the dress is wearing her – maybe because the hair is just too undone for such a structured dress.

  • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

She looks terrific. I’m not a fan of strapless dresses, but she wears them well. And it’s so great to see her with a knee-length hem, looking like a grown-up. Love the pumps. OK, they’re black. I can live with that.

I’m irrationally happy to see her like this. I do love her. Go Jen.

  • Anonymous

LOVE the mix of patterns.  Relieved to not see her thighs (not that there’s anything wrong with them).

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Fabuloso – best she has ever looked. And I want that dress.

  • Anonymous

Well oh well.  I like it that her dress isn’t cut up to the Good China. I really really wish she’d change her hair.  But the dress is cute.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_IHWCJIMARF4OOW6PQZQS3RFOOA JillK

Why does she have her thumbs stuck up those flaps in the back? And her hair still looks godawful. For a woman whose character (the one that shot her to fame, no less), set off a global hair style explosion, she sure sucks in the hair department.

Otherwise she looks okay., I guess.

  • Anonymous

i think she’s gonna take one look at how much bigger it makes her look than the model [who i really hope is not crystal renn] & decide to never wear anything like it again. not that it doesnt look better on her than on the model, not that it doesnt look terrible on the model. it does.

    • http://www.facebook.com/martha.dollery Martha Dollery

Not sure if that’s here but the last pics I saw of her she was as bland and super skinny as every other model out there.

  • Anonymous

Shes stepped it up to vanilla with chocolate sprinkles.  Dont get the appeal, shes bland,no sex appeal, can’t act,is such a whiner when it comes to men, and did I say she’s dull as drying paint?  Well at least paint usually is a real color

  • http://twitter.com/yessveee Sarah Veenstra

LOVE that dress more than any other I’ve seen in a long time, but it is Just. Not. Hers. The dress is doing all the work, and she just looks utterly shapeless.

and PLEASE, woman, do something with your hair. We know, we know – you’re still making sure most of the populace finds you smoking hot. You just look incredibly boring as well now.

  • Anonymous

I’d kill for her legs. Won’t work for them, but I’d kill for them…

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3AJ237ND3GAHDQJZ4TLCO4WLRA Emily

Holy moly!  A pattern!  As I live and breathe….She looks amazing and love the dress!

  • Helen C

You guys need new glasses.  She looks like Blake Lively at age 40 with some extra plastic surgery.
The dress is boring and fug.  She needs to brush her hair.

  • Anonymous

The dress is divine but the hair…come on.  Would it kill her to try a different style?

  • Anonymous

Good for her. Although, that dress definitely looks better from the front or the back, rather than from the side.

  • Anonymous

I rubbed my eyes in disbelief–Jen Aniston wearing a dress that’s stylish and hits her knee!  And she looks great–surprised at how much sexier she looks than in those silly bandage dresses.  The only explanation is that she reads your blog.  So now work on her hair–I’ve had to look at those dark roots and sorry hairstyle since the 90’s and I can’t take it anymore.

  • Anonymous

    Viva la black pump!

  • Anonymous

I love the dress, still hate her whole schtick.

  • Anonymous

It’s a great dress, but until she does something with that goddamned hair I cannot be bothered with her.

  • Anonymous

Did the airport give her someone else’s luggage? If so, she needs to hire that person’s stylist.

  • Anonymous

She did an editorial once where they syled her as vintage Barbra with the bob.  She has the face for a short cut and should really give a dramatic razor pixie a chance

  • Anonymous

as an aside, who is the woman she’s talking to & what is she wearing? she looks like a celebrity i probably dont recognize by face or maybe even by name [not uncommon] but her outfit looks very nice.

    • http://twitter.com/trashcookie Jillian Molinaro

Malin Akerman maybe? She’s also in the movie.

  • Anonymous

I actually think that dress is really unflattering. That woman has zero stomach and the dress gives her one.

  • Anonymous

JEN! I’m so PROUD! (Also, I want. that. dress.)

  • Anonymous

I like this dress.  And her hair is slightly  better with that new cut. If only she’d go for a nice bob.

  • http://twitter.com/anacedillo Ana Cedillo

she looks great!!! that really is one killer dress damn

  • Anonymous

I nearly fell out when i saw Aniston as a Werq but I have to agree.

  • http://www.facebook.com/sorana.tarmu Sorana Tarmu

Great. Now how about discovering color? Baby steps.

  • Lisa

It’s only slightly different than what she normally does.  Strapless dress, but this time with a pattern, etc. etc.  Same hair, same makeup.  Just the color of the dress and the color of the shoes are different, and they’re hardly a “wow!” color. And it’s not dramatically longer than what she normally wears. I want to see her really break out into something different.

  • Jenny Moss

    It can be done Jen!

  • http://stef-lee.tumblr.com/ stef lee

am i alone in thinking this still looks incredibly drab? i mean, more power to her, the lady managed to make that sharp little number look boring.

  • Anonymous

The hipflappy thing is never easy IRL but I must say, I LOVE the length on her, and the shoes are killah.  She looks like a grown-up. Maybe the hair will follow!
