Susan Sarandon for Neiman Marcus

Posted on February 08, 2012

Susan Sarandon and her slightly cloned daughter Eva Amurri Martino play dressup. And since it’s  for Neiman Marcus, it’s very pretty, very pricey dressup.

Susan Sarandon and her daughter Eva Amurri Martino star in Neiman Marcus’ The Art of Fashion print campaign for Spring 2012. The campaign was photographed by Mark Abrahams and includes 14 portraits in premier designer fashion including looks by Burberry Prorsum, Carolina Herrera, Chanel, Donna Karan, Etro, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, J. Mendel, Lanvin, Oscar de la Renta, Prada, Tom Ford, Valentino and Vera Wang.

Eva’s beautiful and a pretty good model, but let’s face it, Susan’s the real draw here. The Tom Ford and Lanvin pictures are oddly unflattering, and we’re not entirely sold on that Chanel on her, but she looks amazing in the Oscar de la Renta and J. Mendel shots. And is there a woman on the planet more suited to wear that Prada coat? We don’t think so.

Why put a Fanning dress on a woman of Ms. Sarandon’s stature?

Who the hell chose that shot of the Herrera?? She looks like an amputee.

    • Sobaika Mirza

      WHERE IS HER LEFT LEG???

    • Anonymous

I felt that way about the Vera Wang shot, too!

    • Anonymous

haha, I was thinking the same thing!  The ANTM panel would have been all over that missing leg!

Quite frankly, you can get through this whole shoot and not be certain she has two legs…

Eva gets more beautiful the older she gets…she’s quite a striking person.  Her face is incredibly interesting and I mean that in a positive way and not a back-handed compliment way.

My Dad said this once about Susan Sarandon and it’s so true: “There are more beautiful women in the world, but not many can be as strong a female force as she.”  Ah, my Dad’s nice way of trying to explain that this actress gives him a man-tingle.

    • Anonymous

I completely agree. That girl grows lovelier each year.

    • Anonymous

I agree about Eva, too. I remember when she first started showing up places I couldn’t see the resemblance at all and I thought she was very pedestrian looking, but she’s gorgeous now. (Although she needs to figure out more facial expressions than that “Oh!” look.)

      Your dad sounds adorable.

      • Anonymous

My Dad is the cutest thing ever…he happily compares his looks to Sam the Eagle (of Muppets fame).

It’s funny that it was my Dad that taught me the best asset in a woman’s arsenal is the confidence to say (and believe) “Shit, I know I look good” even when you’re in PJ bottoms and a pony tail. I’m SUCH a Daddy’s Girl. :)

    • Anonymous

It’s not surprising that Susan gives your dad the man-tingle. Few things are sexier than a woman who is confident and comfortable in her own skin. Your dad has excellent taste.

    Oddly off putting.

That Gucci is hideous. Also it reminds me of something my first boss (I worked at a Bagel shop) would wear. She always went to Neiman’s and picked that tackiest, loudest, most patterned thing she could find to put on. To sell bagels.

there is no doubt at all that Susan Sarandon has a painting of herself in her attic that looks like hell. She looks fantastic in all these photos!!!

    • Anonymous

Not to mention someone working overtime with Photoshop.  I distinctly remember more than a few years ago seeing a photo of Susan Sarandon that showed her hands, and they were the real indicators of her age.  No bad cess on that since anno domini is inexorable tho’ some say nay, but they were thin, fragile, ropey and lacking in collagen.  Ms. Sarandon is 65 years old.  Take a squint at this Wikipedia entry, and the accompanying photo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Sarandon  Granted that the pic was taken in 2008, but the discrepancy between “reality” and these photos is quite extreme.  Here’s a People Magazine link with a pic from a year later – hands visible. http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20332851,00.html

I’m not knocking Ms. Sarandon, I’m deploring the wholesale reworking of people’s features without any sort of disclaimer or explanation in a footnote.  A topic that’s been oft-discussed here in the annals of T Lo Analysis and Commentary.

      • http://profiles.google.com/dorothymichael Dorothy & Michael n/a

Another example of Ms. Sarandon’s actual physical looks instead of the wispy, unreal photos here.  I’m not knocking her – she’s gorgeous – but you are right, this is too big a difference to ignore:

Actually I saw her at the Chelsea Trader Joe’s not long ago, buying her
hummus like the rest of us, and she looks great. I think that’s actually
        a bad photo of her.

  • Anonymous

Can I just state that I am impressed that Susan Sarandon’s face looks like an actual face of a woman over 16 in these photos?  While I don’t doubt that make-up and photoshop were employed, she looks spectacular – and human.

    • Anonymous

I’ll always love her for that.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

It’s definitely been photoshopped.  You can tell by the smoothness of the neck.  Susan’s neck looks her age in real life, and I love her for that, too.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

But you will NEVER be able to make Susan Sarandon look ridiculously young, no matter how much you photoshop her.  Even when she was much younger, her face was always that of a woman rather than a girl, because of her bone structure and features.

    • Anonymous

I so admire the fact that she’s in her 60′s (I kinda can’t believe it) and she’s obviously very confident and comfortable within herself.  So, there may be a little work and a little photoshopping, but she looks spectacular AND real and that is awesomesauce.

Susan just gets better with age.   She sure has come a long way since Rocky Horror!  (which I adore)

It’s funny–I find these pictures of both women seem to fit the directive, “channel your inner slut.” The clothes are amazing and I have no doubt that mom and daughter could make them look ready to go to the Metropolitan Opera, but they kind of drag them into a JBF scenario. I like it.

Am I the only one getting a Sophia Loren vibe from the Oscar de la Renta shot?

Nope. It’s the first thing I saw too!

Was going to say the exact same thing, but i decided to check the other comments first, and lo and behold…

She’s a dead ringer in that photo.

    • Anonymous

I thought that’s who it was from the thumbnail, and assumed it had been mislabeled until I clicked on the post.

    • Anonymous

Exactly what I thought when I 1st glanced at the photo.

  • Anonymous

The Chanel dress is way too ingenue for Sarandon.  She looks like Sophia Loren in the de la Renta (not necessarily a bad thing, just unexpected).  The Prada jacket is really the only one that looks authentic on her.

    • Melanie Harrison

I agree. I see Carey Mulligan or Michelle Williams wearing that dress. The stylist didn’t get all the looks right for Sarandon, but s/he got several great ones in there at least!

    • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

They really, really should have put the Chanel on Eva.

      • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

        The first thing I thought.

    • Anonymous

And her hair is just awful in the Chanel photo as well.  Weird contrast, relative to the rest of the photos.

    • http://twitter.com/al_ber_to Alberto Muñoz E.

Agreed. The only dress on Sarandon that put me off.

  • Anonymous

I prefer the Tom Ford to the Oscar de la Renta myself.  The J. Mendel is my favorite, but judging from the model pic, it looks like Susan is holding the one exact pose that makes that dress sing.

  • http://twitter.com/VicksieDo VicksieDo

Wow, that Chanel is soooo twee.  NOT her dress.  Love the others though, especially the J Mendel.

Her daughter does that thing of keeping her mouth hanging open that I don’t get. But she’s lovely with her mouth closed.

What’s with the Chanel shower-curtain dress?

    • Anonymous

I’m starting to think shower curtain is the new chanel muse. coco, come back.

  • Anonymous

Eva looks like she’s posing.  Susan looks like she just is.  Daughter could take a few lessons from Mom.

  • Anonymous

I can’t tell you how much I hate that Prada coat.    The Chanel is realy unflattering.  Both the dress and the photo.  It looks like her head is floating above her neck (kind of like that weird Gwyenth Paltrow Vogue cover from a couple of years back).

  • Anonymous

Eva, the open mouth thing does not work for you. It always looks like they’ve caught you in mid-sentence; in fact, it looks like you did not shut up during the entire shoot.

Pretty ladies in pretty nice clothing. I think the only real misses are the Chanel and the Vera Wang that makes Eva’s boob look really weird.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1043171034 Tadiana Walton Jones

Your 2nd paragraph = my thoughts exactly.  The Chanel gives Susan a Miss Havisham vibe, which is beyond unfortunate since she’s otherwise marvelous.   And the Vera Wang is giving Eva a red rubber ball for a boob.

  • http://twitter.com/minnemuffin MBD

I love Eva..BUT I think I have some stale bread in my kitch I could feed her down at the pond.

  • Anonymous

I’m impressed that they managed to find designer clothes that look so fantastic on women with breasts.  See Salma – Susan’s got a big set and yet doesn’t have to make them the focus of everything… Talk to your husband and see if he can get you something made.

  • Anonymous

    Oh, my! That J. Mendel!

The J Mendel one is my fave for sure.

    Love the Prada photo.

Not an original sentiment, but I want to be Susan Sarandon when I grow up. The one ONE celebrity break up that hit me hard was Sarandon and Robbins.  Love it all, except the Chanel. And wow did her daughter end up beautiful.  Now that is a face.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

I agree, I was stunned and sad about that.

Eva is so gorgeous, I agree. They seem like a fabulous and fun family.

I actually think Eva looks amazing and Susan should bitch slap everybody involved – that Chanel looks ridiculous.

  • Anonymous

I want to be Susan Sarandon when I grow up.

  • Anonymous

Wow…that Chanel is pretty bad on her.  It looks desperate.

  • Anonymous

Sarandon is killing that J. Mendel. I just want to see her in all the clothes, honestly.

  • CQAussie

The Chanel shot looked ridiculous.  My favourite was the J Mendel, Susan looked amazing.  Her daughter is pretty hot, she looks great in pretty much every shot but I hope she grows out of the Open Mouth pose quickly…

  • Anonymous

Holy crap, the J. Mendel on her is amazing. I hope she wears it to an event sometime. Though I fear we’ll learn that it was Photoshopping that made it look amazing.

I like the Chanel dress (apparently made for a Fanning) on her. It’s surprising and I think she pulls it off. She has a far more interesting figure and face than the model. She looks like a character in a movie that has a complicated but thoughtful backstory.

  • Anonymous

They put the wrong one in the Chanel…

  • Anonymous

given that she is surely a force to be reckoned with, Susan should have exercised her veto power on that ridiculous Chanel they put her in….

  • Anonymous

its interesting to see how a runway version of a dress (in this case the Donna Karan), gets modified for wear in the  real world, from ample of sternum on the model to ample of breast on Eva….

  • http://profiles.google.com/misslauraschultz Laura Schultz

Eva is a little pouty but still quite stunning. She’s working it. But Susan. Susan is just doing it like this is what she wears all day and this is how she sits and hangs out all day. Just complete ease. Amazing.

    Eva = “THURSDAY”

  • Anonymous

    Loving the Lanvin on her.

  • Anonymous

They look like a textbook case of celeb campaign casting vs. model campaign casting. Eva is werqing the clothes for the camera, but Susan is wearing them, not letting them wear her. RESPECT.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1046681022 Paula Berman

The J. Mendel dress looks way better on Susan than on the model. WAY better.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1046681022 Paula Berman

She looks gorgeous in the picture you posted. I should look so good now, and I’m 25 years younger than she is. Yes, her hands are not youthful but everything else is awesome.

  • Anonymous

That Chanel is the only one I didn’t like on her

  • Anonymous

Her daughter is super tall and skinny, no?? And very beautiful, but quite vacuous about the eyes. I do NOT like that Prada coat. Ugly.

  • Anonymous

Love the Mendel gown.  Hope she had the sense to keep that piece.

  • Anonymous

I dunno, she always stuck out in my mind as “sensual as a pencil”

  • Judy_J

In the Oscar de la Renta, Susan appears to be channeling Sophia Loren.  I’ve always admired her, especially when she and Tim Robbins became an item.  I was so sad when they broke up.

    • Anonymous

Ooops! I said the same thing about Sophia Loren in the de la Renta before I saw your post. But, anyway, AGREED!

  • Susan Crawford

Ms. Sarandon KILLED in the Oscar dress and jacket – just KILLED! But putting even this amazing example of mature beauty into the Chanel dress meant for a twee little elvish creature from deep within the Magic Forest? No. Just – no. She rocked the J. Mendel, too, and probably looked incredible in the Tom Ford and Lanvin, but the photographs managed to obscure the designs and contort her into unflattering poses. But she is definitely one gorgeous woman. Eva is adorable – a little channeling of a Zooey Deschanel vibe with the wide-eyed, adorable fawn in the headlights expression. Loved her in Burberry Prorsum and Armani.

  • MilaXX

My favs are the Prada coat and the J Mendel dress, but there’s something a little odd about these pictures. The look slightly stretched to make them longer or something. I t reminds me of those weight loss ads where they stretch the photos for before and after looks.

  • Anonymous

How sad it is that a woman Susan Sarandon’s age (65) is not allowed to have a single wrinkle or line.

The Mendel dress is the best.
The Tom Ford is nice — she looks Lesley Ann Warren-ish in that shot.In the Chanel she looks like she’s facing a serious illness and is about to be x-rayed.Eva needs to learn some facial expressions from mom — she’s all pursey lips.Does the Vera Wang resemble an ‘Anya dress’ to anyone? Of course it can’t be because it has actual design elements. Actually, I hate those red breast patches and the peplum. So Vera made an ugly Anya dress.

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

I covet that Etro dress as well.

  • Anonymous

Susan is kind of doing the Sophia Loren thing these days, isn’t she? Especially in the Oscar de la Renta.

  • butter nut

she’s killing it in the j mendel.

My god, gorgeousness itself! Those clothes are stunning and I love how they’re being worn. Yes Susan is a little line free but wow. Damn, that purple coat dress makes me jealous of you girls. I want pretty guy clothes!!

    Goddess and Goddess in Training.

They are both gorgeous, and Sarandon just oozes that It factor. I love her. (The Chanel twee lace thingy isn’t working on her, but all the other shots are divine.)

  • Anonymous

I don’t know if anyone mentioned this yet, but that shot of her in the Prada jacket reminds me of the last shot in The Hunger. I wonder if they did it on purpose?

Susan is a goddess. Pure and simple.

  • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

The Chanel is way too twee for Ms. Sarandon, bet her daughter could have rocked it, but she absolutely Shuts It Down in the J Mendel! So gorgeous!

  • http://twitter.com/karenrubyleo Karen

what is with the very wang? are there holes in it so your bra can show through or is that part of the dress?!

  • Anonymous

I actually like Susan in the Tom Ford. Now there’s a closed mouth smile that really works. She looks flirty, super lovely, and a little bit dangerous.

  • Anonymous

I completely agree about the Chanel.  Too young for either of them.  Eva, like her mom, gets better looking as time goes by.

  • http://karensbooksandchocolate.blogspot.com/ Karenlibrarian

Eva is gorgeous and it’s fascinating to see Susan 2.0, but for God’s sake, GIVE HER SOME UNDERGARMENTS.  She’s built like Susan and so therefore NEEDS A BRA.  She’s too young to have saggy breasts.

I wish the designers would realize how beautiful their creations look on women with curves insttead of the “hangers they hire”
