Oscars WERQ: Stacy Keibler in Marchesa

Posted on February 26, 2012

We squealed with irrational excitement when Stacy paraded out in this:

Marchesa Fall 2012 Collection

Because we were so totally at the runway show SITTING RIGHT BEHIND HER a couple weeks ago when we saw it for the first time. Fashion worlds colliding, darlings! With US in the middle!

And we said at that time that this dress was clearly going to be worn to the Oscars in a couple of weeks. It’s dead-perfect in every way and the styling rises to the challenge. Brava, Stacy.

Oh, and good job, George. This is absolutely what an Oscars red carpet couple should look like.

    • Sobaika Mirza

Perfect match of lady and dress.

      • Amy Ellinger

agreed- i can’t think of anyone else who would make this work right now. she’s tall enough to carry it off!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=5315792 Kari Den Otter

Love it so much!  She looks amazing.  Also, love that it’s your first Oscar post of the night!

      • http://twitter.com/algaechick Crystal

Yes! I’m waiting for a post about Viola Davis-I was imagining TLo squealing also when they saw her on the red carpet sans wig!

    • http://twitter.com/vintagesewing VFL Miss Helenes

Sorry, but I just see cheap 80s and something exploding off her hip.  Yuck.  And if she doesn’t back up off my husband, someone’s gonna get hurt.

    • http://onebluetree.blogspot.com/ Sara L.

Gorgeous. And this was my four year old daughter’s favorite, but mainly because it’s shiny.

    • Little_Olive

I don’t love it. But I’m not sure whether it’s the dress or the wearer that leave me meh, because I like it better on the model.

    • pawtley

Gorgeous; why smash the rose between them, though?

      • poggi

I know.  He couldn’t have stood on the other side?  But I guess if George deigns to bring you to the Oscars, you’re not telling him where to stand.

        • Sweetbetty

I’ve often wondered, does George spring for his red carpet dates’ dresses, etc.?

          • poggi

I am guessing that George’s people set the date up to borrow a dress for free.  While the designer would probably get more publicity if George wore the dress, the next best thing would be having his date wear your dress (and she might look better in it than he would, although I wouldn’t bet against looking good in anything).

    • Alisa Rivera

Take a good look at Stacey because this is the last time you’ll ever see her in public with Clooney.

      • http://profiles.google.com/denise.alden Denise Alden

I’m with you there, my friend!

      • Patricia Gillett

LOL, I was wondering when Stacey would be relieved of her girlfriend duties. Any day now?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6RS6NLL44AED3E4QWIYTDQGU6I Psy_Chick

I don’t really think the mermaid hair was necessary, but the dress is very pretty, and fantastic with her coloring.

    • Markatha

That is gorgeous!  Molten metal.  She looks beautiful.  That dress is fantastic!

    • umeboshi

pretty, yet i can’t help seeing a tumor growing off her hip…

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1344922354 Eric Scheirer Stott

I know what you mean, but for a red carpet stand-and-pose dress this is perfect.

      • butterflysunita

It reminds me of those burls on redwood trees.  I think the dress looks best when she’s posing with Clooney–then the burl is partly hidden.

    • nancylee61

She is beautiful and seems very nice, but I don’t love the dress and hair. And you know her time is ticking away with Georgie.

    • Cousin_Rose

      My vote for best dressed

    • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

So, if Clooney doesn’t get to take home an Oscar, his girlfriend will suffice.

      • Pennymac

She’s his larger than life statue!  The dress is spectacular, though.

    • leave_Blake_alone

[Except George’s pants have an extra foot of fabric]

    • Stefanos Mantyla

Nothing to say, other than well done!

    • http://twitter.com/aStudiobytheSea a Studio by the Sea

She looks like a feminine version of the Oscar statuette.  I like it, even if it isn’t innovative, and she looks so much better than the model.  Yay for tall athletic women!  She needs to ditch the uninterested old dude before he dumps her, though.  Honestly, his expression is like “Stop posing, I don’t want to miss the early bird buffet.”

      • http://karensbooksandchocolate.blogspot.com/ Karenlibrarian

I agree, the model’s boobs look like babyheads.

    • TheOtherChristina

The dress really suits her. I would have liked a bolder lip color, but this is such a tremendous improvement for her that I can’t complain too loudly.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Best I’ve seen her look.  And no babyheads!

    • Carrie L. Boram

Whether he gets an Oscar or not, he’s going home with a shiny gold statue! Vair vair pritty!

    • Stubenville

I’m having a hard time getting past the sheer size of that fabric tumor. Pretty color on her though.

    • Mexxoo

Wow, it’s like he’s already got a life-sized version of the Oscar!  She looks lovely!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_L6FKGKUXWF6QSWWYAHJZYKKI3E Adrian

She’s gorgeous, but I have to take George to task – I’m *totally* fine with him having a bit of a belly, because I like my men like that, but you can’t wear a European-style tailored jacket like that if you have a belly. And your pants are too baggy, baby. Hem them an inch or two and wear a jacket that doesn’t cup your gut, and GET YOUR HAND OUT OF YOUR POCKET, and we’ll talk.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PMAPJYMO5AC6GMONR6NQFURAXE bebo

I knew it was going to be worn at the oscar, but didn’t think it would be worn by her . Was thinking more Jennifer Lopez or Angelina Jolie.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1046681022 Paula Berman

         Has Angelina ever worn gold?

      • unbornfawn

Too tasteful for JLo and too interesting for Angelina.

    • Sara__B

I’m not crazy about the Marchesa, but Stacy and her mega kilowatt smile make that bulging hip flower and blinding shininess look lovely and elegant.

    • mmgk

She looks beautiful.  She’s also making him look really really old.

    • Kate McCain

She looks good, but if she had darker hair (like a chestnut brown) it would be gorgeous

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Hate it. Hate her hair. Hate how cheap the material looks. Hate the excessive draping.

      • http://profiles.google.com/denise.alden Denise Alden

         Me, too!  Awful.

    • http://twitter.com/ClairRose483 Clair Ellis

This is how you’re supposed to dress at the Oscars. Like you are going to an awards show that the entire world will be watching. She is stunning.

    • Judy_J

Stunning and gorgeous. She has certainly come a long way, fashion-wise.

    • mozzer0906

She looks marvelous and he looks fantastic.

    • turtleemily

Stacy-in-the-dress vs model-in-the-dress could serve as a guide to acceptable levels of babyhead.

      • Snailstsichr

So, so true. Like X 1000.

    • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

    • tonibaloney

Ugh, I think the makeup is SO washed-out, it’s distracting me from the rest of the look.

    • http://profiles.google.com/ameliaheartsu Amelia Logan

His hem touches the ground!!! and his jacket is too small

    • NCDFan

Gorgeous. The best she’s ever looked.

    • Gorengirl

I love the dress but not on her. Not a fan of hers at all. And put on some lipstick for heaven’s sake.

    • jw_ny

This dress was made for Stacy…perfect.  Hair and makeup…not so much.

    • http://twitter.com/chylde bellalozza

      Nice “beard,” George…

    • bitterk

She looks like the statue.  Me no likey.

    • ChristinaRi

She looks stunning.   Maybe a little more color on the lip, but that’s all I could say.   This isn’t an easy dress to wear, but she does it perfectly.

    • crackineggs

    • granddelusion

Great dress, and she wears it well. Who’s that old guy with her?

    • http://twitter.com/katshimmers Kat Wright

THE best thing about this is she didn’t ruin it with baby heads! Props!

    • http://twitter.com/LauraF775 Laura F.

That hip rose is not doing it for me.  Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig should be locked up for grave crimes against sparkly things.  Buuuut, this isn’t the worst Marchesa I’ve ever seen. Good effort Stacy and Intern George.

    • http://www.facebook.com/kati.irons Kati Irons

Nice. She seems to be mastering the award show fashion learning curve.

    • PeaceBang

How does she manage to make this dress look utterly boring? By wearing it with bland hair and beachy make-up. Snore.

    • ccm800

m very nearly look of the night. She is wearing the hell out of that dress. WERQ indeed!

    • Stephanie Lucas

“NO, George, do it like we rehearsed over and OVER again: STAND ON MY LEFT SIDE! ARGH!”

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

Her and Rooney for look of the night.  This was a very classy look to end the awards season, and therefore, your time with Mr. Clooney.  Thank you for playing!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NFFOY4GA4NUZYQ5X4AW5ZQWJTM Maria

How do you not hate this? She looks like one big, boring block of tan and sad shininess. I hate it.

    • MilaXX

This is the kind of dress you wear when you have legs forever. She looks gorg1

    • ErinnF

I hate it so much. It looks like an exploding bronzed tumor. HATE.

    • BookishBren

Not nuts about the “blonde hair and blonde dress” look but the dress itself is great. Wish she had lightened her hair or darkened it a bit for this color.

    • nannypoo

The dress is pretty fabulous but she looks bland and boring. And poor George is obviously uncomfortable with her. Makes me sad.

    • j_anson

It does look lovely. Though I wish the slightly rosier gold of the runway dress were coming through here – it’s so luscious in the runway picture.

    • holdmewhileimnaked

is it just the lighting that adds the rose to the gold of the runway dress? cos other than that it is, here, of course, gorgeous. no squabbles or even quibbles. but w/ the rose it’s spectacular. it’s what really makes the dress. i am wondering, though, strangely, if that singular, subtle color is only an illusion. like most of life, like too much of it, but still.

    • Celandine1

She looks beautiful and young. 1000% improvement over what she was doing when she first started hitting red carpets with Clooney. Total WERQ.

    • http://blue-again.myopenid.com/ blue

She looks fabulous. That color/fabric is gorgeous on her. It looks better on her than the model! She avoided the lift-n-smoosh boobs on display thing the model is doing too. Bravo.

    • leilah

What’s with the lighting on the Oscar’s Red Carpet?  First Viola’s green dress looks faded/off, and now Stacy’s dress is waaaay lighter here than I saw it on TV, and is lighter than on the Marchesa model.

And, memo to Meryl Streep/Lanvin:  THIS is the modern way to wear gold lame; Meryl’s dress looked like something Blanche Devereaux (GG’s) would’ve worn.

    • prettybigkitty

Too gold.  Gold dress.  Gold hair.  Gold skin.

    • Evelina Chang

Wow, that looks amazing on her!

    • brora

Except, who on earth is she?

    • unbornfawn

She must have overheard you. Who wouldn’t take fashion advice from TLo? Gorgeous!

    • http://twitter.com/geekheat richard edmond bell

im sorry but she’s better suited to be paired with the oscar statue, together they make such a nice pair of wedding cake toppers! with the cake being golden of course!

    • rainwood1

She looks fabulous, and I say that even though I irrationally resent all of my beloved George’s arm candy.

    • https://profiles.google.com/104791269167429064986/ Judy S

You guys did work overtime last night! Lots of posts to look at. I agree she looks lovely, seemed very nice too in one of the brief chats.
But: I am used to seeing your pics of this couple with her towering over him. However, on the Oscars stage I noticed that all the women towered over all the men. Is this good?

    • JustJenn142

I’ll be picky and say I am not loving the hair but everything else looks awesome.  Best she has looked all year.

    • http://twitter.com/danielleRwest Danielle West

I’m surprised y’all aren’t commenting on how she is all one color, from head to toe.  That’s the one thing that’s keeping me from liking this look.

    • ASK26

((i only wished for a little color – either cheeks, lips or eyes)

    • ASK26

((i only wished for a little color – either cheeks, lips or eyes)

    • SewingSiren

I don’t love it. The poor girl seems dull as dishwater too.

    • kaycem

meh.  woulda looked better on a brunette and/or someone wearing red lipstick…  great dress, but it’s clearly doing all the work here.  definitely a case of a dress wearing a woman and not vice versa.

    • SapphoPoet

      Lovely. Some old-fashioned grandeur.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I’m actually not digging the flower on her hip.  The dress didn’t need it.  But I like a more minimalist approach when you’re trying to dress as the actual award being given away.

    • sid123

Yes she looks great, but the whole thing looks a bit washed out to me, hair, skin, dress…

    • http://twitter.com/arodenha Alli

She has the trophy wife look down pat. I give her and George 6 more weeks before he gives her the boot.

Not really feeling the dress either – that swirl looks like some weird vortex I can’t take my eyes off of.

    • Susan Crawford

George, you should hang on to this one – she’s got much more than your two-year shelf-life in her, buddy! And SHE makes YOU look even more fabulous.

    • sagecreek

Is anyone else thinking, “Take that, Angelina”?

    • cam_lo

Does this mean you guys are finally getting behind mermaid hair? There have been several that you haven’t commented on.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=732849221 Denise Dragert Stanfa

This is NOT what a red carpet couple should look like!  He looks like her DAD dropping her off at a very stylish prom.

    • BazoDee

She looks great -but it was funny to see her try to walk in it!

    • http://twitter.com/margo8461 Marguerite

Sorry boys, but gold lame with a fabric rose on the hip is not dead-perfect. It’s ugly, gaudy & just yuck. But her hair & date look good.

    • http://www.facebook.com/charlotte.horseman Charlotte Horseman

Still not sure I love the dress, but she was definitely one of the most beautiful women at the Oscar’s.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

It looks good on her, but I have a thing about wearing a gold form-fitting dress to the Oscars.  It’s a little too thematic.

    • marilyn

      UH OH…….She upstaged George.

    • nancylee61

George lost, but still got to take home the big gold statue. Hope it helped.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1129137319 Paula Pertile

Someone somewhere said she looked too much like an Oscar statue. I think she looks great.

    • kimmeister

I like that she didn’t have babyheads, yet this dress managed to obliterate her boobs, when she most definitely has some.

    • Kate4queen

      She looks beautiful. Forget George.

    • sockandaphone

they look so good last night. and i usually roll my eyes at marchesa but that is one gorgeous dress and styled perfectly.

    • TheOriginalLulu

Me: *grumble* She’s too TALL for him
Boyfriend: GO Georgie, knocking off a piece of that!
Me: Excuse me, SHE’S the one who’s lucky here

But I’d be lying if I said she didn’t look gorgeous in this. WERQ.

    • PhoebePowers

Her hair was just. so. terrible, it distracted from any chance the dress had to look really good.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Fabulous dress on just the right woman, and the arm candy on her arm is pretty nice, too!

    • ArchaicSmile

The first time I saw a photo of this gown from the runway I immediately thought of Sofia Vergara. I mean, how gorgeous would that material look against her skin? I must admit, Ms. Stacy really nailed it though.

    • http://twitter.com/TigerLaverada TigerLaverada

I think she looks slammin’. But I’ll be glad when makeup comes back in style.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2P2ANLRZ6YAVGONA36I2AQJYGI VicD

Thought she rocked it, although some others didn’t.  This was the best dress of the Marchesa collection – expected to see it on Sofia Vergara or JLo.

    • CCDilg

I like it and in the show..you knew some one would wear it.  She looks great ! My feeling it should have been on someone who was nominated.  thoughts on that.

Hate that kind of hip detailing/goiter, but it’s Marchesa, it wouldn’t be right if there wasn’t unnecessary details. She does look beautiful, though.

    • Sophie Collier

Aw yeah!  When I saw that dress on the runway (well, in photos of it on the runway) I was thinking “THAT is the dress I would pick for an event.”  It is interesting, classy and elegant.

    • frankystein123
