Oscars: Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

Posted on February 26, 2012

The last thing we want to do is sound stuffy, but  isn’t this just a bit much for the Oscars?

Sure, it’s Diva-Spectacular and showing off the body is and always has been her thing. And we’re definitely not making an age-appropriate point here. She looks spectacular in the dress, no doubt about that, but this is a look better suited for the Grammys. Which isn’t to say that the Grammys are a lesser awards show somehow; just that this kind of “SHOW BUSINESS!!!!!” look is a bridge too far for the Oscars, which are generally seen as having a stricter dress code. It’s the one Hollywood event where you’ll see the most haute couture on the red carpet. Haute couture’s not required, but if you’re walking alongside it, maybe you should put your nipples away for the evening and tone down on the drag queen makeup.

Otherwise, a hell of a head-turning look. Just not the time and place for it.

I love it. Wouldn’t expect anything else from her, classy affair or no.

    • P M

I live in eternal hope that one day, a diva will pull out all the stops and do a full-on Endora, with silver eyeshadow. You know that’s the logical conclusion to this look. (sigh) Some day….

      • Give J.Lo another decade and you’ll see it and feel so god damn justified in wishing for it.

        • P M

ummmm……okay. I guess. (sorry, I don’t understand the justified part) Do you mean I’ll rue the day?? The comment was made in jest. Besides, JLo wouldn’t do anything that would lessen her hotness, I don’t think.

          • I meant the exact opposite of rue. I meant that in ten years, given her current style progression, it’s not at all unlikely that she’d go for the full Endora and that you will not just feel good and correct for wishing she’d do it but be found righteous in the sight of the LORD Himself for having wanted her to do it. I mean, come on, Endora’s makeup was crazy-awesome and if anyone could pull it off straight, it’s Jennifer Lopez.

At least I hope it’ll take her a decade before she reaches for the silver eye shadow because I personally think she should be in her fifties before even attempting. One needs the gravitas of middle age before attempting such shenanigans; otherwise, there is indeed a very real danger of lessening one’s hotness. And as you say, JLo doesn’t cotton to anything that lessens her hotness.

  • her forehead is the strangest color.

  • mjude

is she trying to hard.  i swear you could see her nipple when she presented an award, am i the only one?

    • schadenfreudelicious

i thought i was imagining nip, but methinks it was indeed on display!

      • Oh I totally saw it too!

      • Me, too. Very distracting. But truthfully and after much consideration, I have decided it was just a shadow.

        • schadenfreudelicious

i think you may be correct, whatever it was it was not her best on camera moment….

          • Carla_Charlton

While she was presenting, I thought it was a nipple, but now agree about the shadow, or maybe even part of the lining/undergarment.  If you look at the closest photo above, you can see the lining, which makes me think the top was a little too tight and pulling.  I also agree about the sleeves — if they had been whole, with no slits, the look would have been much more sophisticated and less Vegas.

          • schadenfreudelicious

yup slitty sleeves are kinda slutty 🙂

        • Louise Bryan

Me, three.  I was hoping I was imagining it, but now I guess not.  Doesn’t someone make tape to prevent that sort of oops?

          • Yep. Fashion tape – a diva should never leave home without it. Although I should point out that it isn’t Super Glue. If there isn’t enough stretch in the fabric and it’s already straining to cover, the strain on the tape can make it give way, especially if you’re sweating under all the lights.

    • Alisa Rivera

      Definite nippage.

    • Pennymac

I thought I saw it too.

    • MissMariRose

I suspect that she and Diaz had their backs turned to the camera when the video ended because she had to put her areola away.

      • And here I just thought they were showing off their spectacular asses. Which seemed like an odd thing to do, so your theory makes sense. Cameron was quite the sport to help a girl out like that.

      • carpediva

Anyone else have the unsavory thought that they were presenting together because they’ve both slept with Sean Combs? When I realized they had that in common (you know, allegedly) I actually “Ewwww!’d out loud.

    • MilaXX

several people have been commenting about a nip slip

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Oh I didn’t read your post.  YES.  That was total nippleage.   I think the director was flummoxed about what to do about it and the camera tended to creep higher, in my mind, to avoid a Janet Jackson Moment.

    • Spicytomato1

It sure looked like it. I was embarrassed because my 11-year-old son was watching with me and he did seem extra attentive while she was on stage.

    • kolokOlchik

Same here.  When she was walking in and when she was presenting.  And we were not the only ones

    • vmcdanie

You are not. I noticed that immediately and spent the whole time nervous that the rest of her bosom was going to pop forth before they announced the winner. I thought maybe when the camera cut back and they had their backs turned it was cover so she could re-arrange herself but the almost breaching nip was unchanged.

    • paginatrix

I saw it, too — right as she was finishing Edith Head’s quote that a dress should be “loose enough to show you’re a lady.”

    • adnama79

Me too – and then she moved her arm, like she felt it showing and was covering it up.

  • Carla Williams

No, it fits here. I think it’s lovely on her.

  • Elizabeth Norris

I laughed my ass off when she was presenting and had to say that Edith Head line about how female characters’ costumes should be loose enough so they still look like ladies. Whoever had the foresight to think of her saying that line deserves a raise.

    • DesertDweller79

Should have read your post before I posted.  Yes, I laughed pretty hard at that.

    • Anathema_Device

I was going to post the same thing. So now we know what Edith Head would have thought of your dress choice J Lo.

    • tsid2012

I was on the floor gasping for air from laughing that was such irony.

    • lifetime_student

I am so glad that so many other people thought that was hilarious. I nearly fell off my chair.

  • quiltrx

And she and Cameron decided to treat the camera to their asses.  Wow, classy.

    • dress_up_doll

Yeah, what was that all about?

    • zmayhem

Not only that, but she had her back to the cameras for a good 90 seconds and didn’t take the chance to adjust her top. When the camera cut to their asses, my first thought after, “Oh, honeys, NO, tacky, tacky, NO,” was “Oh, thank God she fixed the nip…oh. There it is, still. Oh, honey, NO.”

  • Would have been better without those arm cutouts!
And who is that little girl in the background? She’s cute!!!

    • Little_Olive

TOTALLY!!! I’m so glad someone said it. Shoulder/arm cutouts are so tacky IMO. Plus they show the arm in the least flattering way possible.

      Overall, tackfest.

    • PhoebePowers

Arm cutouts always looks cheap and tacky as Hell to me, totally.

  • imperfectlaura

Yeah not a fan.  The hair, the diva makeup, the dress all make me think she completely forgot where she was going.

  • tonibaloney

The arm cut-outs are not working for me. It’s a bit too much like the weird diamond shapes that clue in Clarice Starling in Silence of the Lambs.

  • understateddiva

It was such a demure red carpet that I didn’t mind that somebody brought the sexy.  And if somebody’s gonna bring the sexy, it might as well be Jlo.

  • DesertDweller79

It was so ironic that she delivered the quote about how a dress should be tight enough to prove one is a lady but loose enough to prove she was classy while wearing that.

    • lalagigi

I know, right? My husband and I burst into laughter….Guess JLo isn’t too classyy, is she….

  • Alisa Rivera

    Vegas hooker.

  • mozzer0906

The dugouts in the arms cheapen the look. Out.

  • lalahartma

Ironic that she read the Mae West quote about  wearing clothes “loose enough to show I’m a lady.”

  • TieDye64

Please, just a little more class. Sometime. Somewhere. Please?

  • mommyca

too much, more so considering she is was only presenting, and not up for an award… and definitely her left nipple was trying to get out while she was presenting…..

  • R. L.

Nips.  Sigh.  And I too snorted at the quote.

  • siriuslover

I think it’s positively demure for Ms. JLo.

  • Cynica

Maybe I’m just channeling the Dowager Countess, but the word that springs to mind is “vulgar.”

  • Terri Smith

Did anyone else think her nipple was showing while she was on stage?

  • unbornfawn

    Kinda slutty.

  • jeeplibby02

This is restrained for her.  I think she looks great.

  • If not then, when?

  • serenitynow02

    Tacky, tacky, tacky.

  • Ruth Gottesman

I think for Jennifer Lopez it’s the absolute perfect Oscar dress. She looks incredible, just incredible.

  • MK03

She manages to slut up everything she touches. However does she do it?

    • Noelle Haland

It’s those sleeves that really take this into Slutsville, I think.

  • butterflysunita

She looks beautiful.  It works for her.

  • TSkot

The big holes in the sleeves take it from classy and classic to slutty and cheap.

    • Judih1

      My sentiments exactly

  • I think she looks great. It’s JLO what else do you expect .She doesn’t do demure.

  • Caaro3

    I hate it.

  • PhillyDeb

I love it and think she looks great.  The boobage is not bothering me.  Could do without the arm cutouts but I still am coming down on the “yeah” side

  • I think it’s stunning and looks great on her IN

  • dress_up_doll

I thought she looked pretty true to herself and usual style choices. The only thing that took it to possible slutty territory were the cut-out armholes. Otherwise, I wasn’t the least bit surprised.

  • ChristinaRi

It’s tasteless and makes her look fat.

  • Judy_J

I agree 100% with you two.

  • jw_ny

Diva spectacular, that it is…for a spectacular diva.  I wouldn’t expect anything less from JLo for the occasion.  She looks beautiful.

  • dorothea_brooke

I hated the cut out arms. That dress with the low back but a high front, which if I’m not mistaken is “in” right now, would have been stunning on her. With that ass and face, why gild the lily? I guess the drama of “Is J-Lo going to show a billion people her nipples?” was enjoyable, if nothing else.

  • CassandraMortmain

The sleeve cutouts really ruin the dress.  But other than that rather vulgar detail, the dress is gorgeous.  And she looks fab. She’s showing less boobage than Viola Davis – no tortured babyheads here – and her makeup is more subtle than Viola’s.  Not sure why you loved Viola’s look but not JLo’s.  I think Miss Lopez looks every bit the fabulous diva that she is.

    • Cousin_Rose

I agree.  How can you praise Viola Davis and then say that JLo is too much?  I don’t know the designers but this looks better to me even though I don’t think showing boob flaps is ever attractive.

  • Catherine Garner

So not appropriate! That having been said I think the biggest problem is that it is ugly as hell! Maybe if you cut the sleeves off and it wasn’t white I could possibly tolerate its existence but it is pretty vile.

  • lilibetp

Yeah, I got an attack of the giggles when she came out with that line about how your dress should be loose enough to show you’re a lady.

  • bitterk

Angelina’s pose and the hilarious attempts to copy it, best moment of the night by far.  Hilarious.

  • I actually thought this was pretty tasteful, especially for her. I was super impressed with this look. She looks amazing.

  • bitterk

No, it’s not too much for the Oscars.  It’s the Oscars. Where else would one wear that?  This dress isn’t my cup of tea but it is very JLo.  The color, the cut outs, the plunging neckline, the skin tight fit, it all says Jlo.

  • Ana

I didn’t like the fashion blogger’s topknot she wore on the red carpet.  Or her boobs. OUT

  • Chantelle James

Without the sleeve cutouts and with a higher back or front, this dress would definitely look classier and more suited for the occasion. As it is, it is a bit vulgar. Of course I don’t think that JLo will ever look especially classy but I think that she could have chosen better.

  • I am not a fan. Having your boobs SO taped down is just distracting. I am not the biggest Camie D. fan, but she looked positively chic and lovely next to JLo who just looked, frankly, like she was trying too hard.

  • Stubenville

The dress is dragtacular! And her face looks odd; why does her forehead have big dark blotches?

  • what’s going on at her hairline? The first inch looks frosted.

  • brookeinmn

I don’t love the sleeves, but otherwise it’s divatastic. Oscars or not, she looks great.

  • You look at her and say, ‘of course’ – but she is rocking the hell out of that dress.

  • She’s the new Cher.

  • CozyCat

Saying Jennifer Lopez has gone too far is like saying Cher has gone too far.  There is no such category….

  • VicksieDo

    I think it’s fantastic…

  • Pupioso

She’s the only one I know that could wear that dress and look good in it.

  • Nariya

No, this is hella baller. It’s plungy and clingy but she is classing it up with the hair, makeup and poise.

  • pawtley

Slow motion credits replay just reminded me of the nipple edge.

  • granddelusion

Love the haircut behind her! And the little girl’s adorable pink dress!

  • I don’t believe the Oscars is the place for under-boob cleavage. Save that business for the Grammys.

  • Agree with the Grammy comment. This is not your dress for the Oscars.

  • Stefanos Mantyla

  • Synnamin

    IN. Girlfriend is werqing this!

  • I can’t wait for the Fug Girls’ “Hola, lovers…” take on this thing.

  • leave_Blake_alone

I agree with everything you’re saying and yet I still kind of love it.

  • ccm800

Um I like it. What the hell is up with the cutout? What are those lines?????

  • butter nut

she looks incredible, but it’s a little desperate for attention.

  • I think if it had more to its back or less to its cleavage-baring it wouldn’t seem quite so gauche (it is lined, though, so that’s a plus). It’s so very JLo, though.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

If it had been sleevless and if I hadn’t seen her aerolas, this would have been my look of the evening.  At this point there are about three square inches of JLo that the world has not seen.

  • PeaceBang

I live for the day I get to see a drag queen doing her best JLo in this EXACT gown.

  • She looks great in it, but it’s not appropriate for the Oscars. That little girl in pink behind her is really cute though.

  • I’d like it more if it didn’t have those shoulder cutouts, which cheapens the overall look.

  • Anathema_Device

One of my oddest parenting moments ever happened when I paused the Tivo so the whole family could scrutinize J Lo’s boobs to see if that was indeed areola we were seeing.

  • AnaRoW

That sounds sort of like the same complaint people had about Halle’s dress.  I like this but it sounds like she could have used some double-sided tape.

  • Her hair is so fucking severe, though. She looks like the evil villain in a telenovela who  steals babies and raises them as her own for her evil purposes.

    • pdquick

  • The dress fits her like a dream, but yeah it’s totally a Grammys dress, not Oscars. Also, it seems kinda tacky to wear such a scene-stealing dress when you’ll never be up for one of these awards, but that’s her. I just spent a bit of time googling her, so she at least did that right.

  • Scott Isaacs

There is a time and a place and a person for everything. JLo apparently decided this was the time and the place, and she was the one to wear this. I honestly think she looks stunning. And I really don’t think she cares that she displayed nippage. So people think she looks slutty and tacky? To which I say: if not her, who? Someone’s gotta carry that banner. Besides, count your blessings. It coulda been Cher or Bjork.

Starting to be proud to be the contrarian of the commentariat.

  • BookishBren

“Meh” from me. I found this utterly predictable and more than a little boring.

  • No No No. It screams “trying too hard”, to me. She is gorgeous and built to kill.  We don’t need neon around it, and strong underlines to get the message. A bit of class could help immensely.

  • MilaXX

I thought the same thing. This is a Grammy Awards dress, not an Oscars dress.

  • sk8tfan

Have you forgotten what she wore to meet Prince William and Princess Catherine? If ever there was a time to dress with discretion and class, that was it, and she was an epic fail. I would expect nothing less from her. I almost love her for it.

  • Sara LaBatt

The sleeve cutouts, tightness, and low cut neckline made it seem more “Latin Grammys” to me.

  • lucasuk82

If it didn’t have the upper arm keyholes and the hair softer (sort of a Lyn Revson redux) it would be spectacular.  As is, she looks good.  Wouldn’t you love the know the carat weight on those rocks… and whether they’re borrowed or from the Diddy section of her archive?

  • Ditto what you said. Did not like, was hoping for something a little more conservative and elegant.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

I was distracted by the appearance of what seemed to be a “shadow-of-nippleage” peeking out on her left/our right side while she was presenting.  Why couldn’t she wear something more tasteful just once?

  • She looks stunning, which was obviously her first priority, appropriateness be damned. I love it.

  • I’m confused. I can’t tell if you’re saying this is too fancy or too tacky for the Oscar’s.

  • holdmewhileimnaked

i really like this dress, i can see myself wear it actually [had i any place to wear it & the money to afford it, that is]. otoh, it also looks to me like a cross between rhianna’s intermittently fluffy gaultier & a post-war/mid-century chenille bathrobe [sans peacock, of course]. one of the odder formal combos, i think. also she might loosen the hair. just a little, maybe.

  • Hannah Weber

What was she doing at the Oscars, anyway????

  • TxMom2011

I was watching her breasts the whole time anticipating a nip slip.

    • pdquick

Well, if you were watching the Tim Gunn interview or the award presentation with CDi, you got a crescent of left areola.

  • When she started spouting about the Bronx on the red carpet and then TLo tweeted about it, I almost wet myself… This woman is too effing much.  Why was she even at the Oscars?  I could not understand this at all. I noticed the stripes not lining up in some areas of the dress (namely under the arms through the waist area and down the hips) and it looked VERY sloppy to me. Alas, it was flashy and more of a Grammys dress to me. Also if there is sheer on the sleeves, why not over the boobage? Oh wait, this is JLO, we gotta have Tits McGee out…

  • filmcricket

I didn’t realize there was illusion netting in the cut-outs until seeing this picture. That cheapens the whole dress, frankly.

However, we are talking about the woman who essentially went topless to the Oscars in 2001. Am I the only one who remembers the sheer Chanel dress with no bra on underneath? By comparison, tonight’s look was positively demure.

    •  The (wrinkly) netting bothered me, too. Reminded me of a figure skating costume, somehow. I also thought it was demure-for-her.

  • k op

It’s a lovely dress and perfect JLo.  What else is she going to wear to the Oscars?  It’s JLo!

One small issue – the striping is fastidiously placed to give the illusion of a smaller waist.  Strangely, it’s over-done and produces the opposite effect giving Ms. Lo a thicker torso then she actually possesses.  They should have simplified the striping, perhaps not using her own skin tone to contrast with white.

  • unbornfawn

In the words of the great Edith Head, “A dress should be tight enough to show you’re a woman and loose enough to prove you’re a lady.”   JLo, you are no lady.

  • leilah

Stunning — loved it.  And what’s with the inferences to a conservative tone at the Oscars?  Tacky, revealing — no, but sexy or even a little provocative, sure.  But why are the Oscar celebration’s attendees held to a higher standard of decorum than are the films being celebrated??  Consider some of the Oscar contenders/winners:  Last Tango in Paris (X), Midnight Cowboy (X), Blue Velvet, Monster Ball, The Reader, The Piano….

And, btw, isn’t there a movie entitled, “There No Business Like Show Business”?

  • pdquick

Twitter lit up about the visible left areola crescent after the Tim Gunn interview. I can’t believe she didn’t fix it before show time. Her PA and her gay should get fired for this. The PA should have been watching the Twitter feed, and the gay should have had some double-sided tape handy.

    • holdmewhileimnaked

in a world where people become celebrities via having their sex tapes “leaked” can this really still be that big a deal? i mean, if you dont have a woman’s nipple yrself you have still definitely seen one–at least on yr mother. but most people have seen more than that.

right now we live in a hypersexualized society where MIA’s finger & sacha grey’s american apparel ads [among all the other american apparel ads, amid all the other nearly as atrocious advertising] wander w/ their virtual hands [& a whole lot more] in the hands [& a whole lot more] of endless sex panic & outrage over wardrobe malfunctions. when i think closely about all this stuff–& more & theres plenty of it–it often comes to my mind that, of all people, that once upon a time serial dater of fourteen year olds, mark mothersbaugh had it more right than anyone. we are not men. i dont know if we ever were but we have certainly been riding in a handbasket for, oh, quite a while.

      • pdquick

To be fair, you couldn’t see the tongue I had firmly implanted in my cheek as I wrote that. But still, I don’t think she intended to show areola at the Oscars. It appears that the padding is sewn in such a way that it caused the garment to curl outward at the neckline on the left. As it turns out, it was just enough to show a crescent of areola. What we have here, then, is a true wardrobe failure.

  • NurseEllen

She can keep the dress.  I want her earrings.

  • Just remove the shoulder gaps and we’re good to go.

  • I don’t love it. Also, is it just me or does she look either really tired or kind of stoned?

  • alyce1213

Surprisingly for me, I don’t hate the dress.  But I do hate big ol’ buns (on the head, that is).

  • brora

Her body looks great in this, which I suppose is the point.

  • I want it lower at the back and higher at the front please.

  • Because what the Oscars needs is more pandering to the conservative old men that run it? I don’t think so. IN.

  • Heath Sledge

I hate it. She looks like Krystle Carrington from Dynasty (and for once that’s not a compliment.)

  • Did she bleach her hairline back 1/2 inch? I could swear she did…

  • I think it’s Oscar-appropriate, but only if the nips go away and take the wrinkled illusion netting over her arms with them.  Wrinkled illusion netting! At the effing Oscars!

  • Vodeeodoe

I was at an Oscar party where everyone was pointing out her nippy-aye-yay-yays. Shadows or not, they were, unfortunately, there.

  • Vodeeodoe

…her Nipsy Wrassle…sorry, after the Wizard of Oz focus group sketch, I am now channeling The Wiz.

  • JustJenn142

I must need a new monitor as I am not seeing any nips.  Weird reason to need a new monitor.

I’m usually not a Jennifer fan and I think she looks stunning here.

  • Stubenville

    [Braying Tangerine voice] “Hoochie mama”

  • I don’t think it’s too revealing at all. I think it’s more illusory in being revealing, with the nude color and the cutouts in the arms, and of course it’s tight, but I think this is the perfect JLo dress.

  • SewingSiren

Very ironic choice  considering the little speech she made whilst presenting the costume design award.

  • I disliked this on her.  She is still unsure of how to dress those curves.  This is just not it for me.  The lines go out wide on her hips, and not in a good way.  Plus, the cut outs in the shoulder had that ice skater mesh and I thought, that’s a bit tacky.  No Jenny from the Block, this just didn’t cut it.

  • SapphoPoet

I think she looks fabulous and there’s nothing too much for the red carpet.

  • I’m not usually a JLo fan, but I love this.  Gasp-worthy.  Admittedly, though, I don’t really have a good feel for what’s appropriate for the Oscars as opposed to the Grammys.

  • Pants_are_a_must

It’s a nude-sparkly dress paired with earth tone divatastic make up. That IS toned down for Jennifer Lopez.

  • Slutty, slutty, slutty. If you need attention that badly, gurl, why not go the Cher route and do it up with headdress and sequins. Your nips? Been there, seen that. Move on like you do with your menfolk.

  • I had to wonder … why was she presenting?  That’s the disconnect for me.  She’s been in a couple of movies, but nothing much recently.  Makes about as much sense as having Paula Abdul present.  I just don’t get it.

  • Larkin21

Uh, I didn’t think she looked out of place. But I do see your point now.

  • Susan Crawford

Well, really, boys. Did you actually expect JLo to turn up in something tasteful? Please. As long as diet, exercise, nips, tucks and the occasional sacrifice of a back-up dancer on the Altar of Eternal Youth can keep those girls perky, we’ll be seeing them in all the old familiar places – appropriate or not.

  • miatamam

The JBoDiaz “hey check out our asses” moment was not very classy.  imjustsayin…………

  • She has worn much more shocking things.  Have you guys forgotten her famous green Versace dress?

  • aimee_parrott

The best part was that she was the one who delivered the half of Edith Head’s famous quote about a dress being “loose enough to show you’re a lady.”  While wearing THAT.  That provided my first big laugh of the night.

  • DominoEstella

Tacky.. and her and Cameron’s schtick was the worst part of the show.

  • BrooklynBomber

Yeah, but this is her thing.  It’s what she does at the Oscars.

  • I agree, there’s just a bit too much skin going on, for some reason. But it’s styled pretty acceptably. Imagine if she’d let down her mane.

  • kolokOlchik

I thought her makeup was gorgeous but that the dress was a bit much

  • janetjb

    Nice clutch.

It’s a dramatic look, but not even close to flattering.

  • lrhoff

I like this more than Viola’s dress.  Talk about “putting the tits away”…..these dress does that in a much classier manner than squishing them up into little balls.  This is definitely WERQing for me and expected from her.

  • It’s so JLo… what can you say?

  • She looked great; the Oscars should lighten up.

  • Absolutely agree, gentlemen.  And–why is she here, exactly?  Movie?

  • What?? It’s perfect. Don’t like the hair though.

  • It looks a lot better in the still photos than it did on the Oscar stage.  But I still don’t like it.

  • nancylee61

Too much boobage for any public place. Sorry, I am just sick of these women being such bad role models, that they have to flash their tits and vaginas all over the place to be sexy (Lea Michele, I am looking at YOU!) I do love her make-up, though. Love the lip color on her. She is a beautiful woman.

  • I loved her doing the Marilyn quote (as best I can remember it) “A dress should be tight enough to show that you’re a woman, and loose enough to show you’re a lady”, while she herself was wearing something that was spray painted on.

  • marilyn

She has the same look each time.  I think she is totally predictable.

  • I didn’t have a problem with it at all actually. I thought she looked fantastic…..

  • ChaquitaPhilly

Didn’t think this last night, but now, looking at the photos, I’m getting a Mae West vibe!

  • Kate4queen

    I think she looks awesome!

  • kimmeister

It’s interesting how many people find the sleeve cutouts “slutty.”  They’re just arms!  I think what brings the dress into tackyville are the nude stripes, which make you think it’s see-through when it’s not.

  • I though she looked fine. But what’s up with the hemming? Couldn’t they have done a rolled hem, not flat? You can see the upturned stripe at the bottom because of the sheerness of the fabric.

  • sockandaphone

nope, its perfect for her. when has jlo not been flashy? and if i had that body i would wear that too.

    • In the frozen food section of Costco, praise GAWD. LOL

I love the dress- it’s so perfectly J-Lo.

  • MsMajestyk

Dress aside, why was she even there?

  • oohsparkley!

In.  I did think it was funny, when Jlo and Cameron were showing their rears, their “joke” fell so flat, there wasn’t even a pity laugh.

  • SpcilK

I am sooo over her! Yes, you are still pretty. No, you don’t look your age…maybe a year or two younger. Stop trying so damn hard, you got the job!

  • TheOriginalLulu

    Me: *gasp*
Boyfriend: enh, she looks like a seashell
Me: Shut up! She’s stunning! What do you know anyway??

  • EEKstl

I was thinking last night that without those hiddy arm cutouts this could have been a home run (JLo-style).

  • I think this would be better at the Grammys, but she can still pull it off. When she was on stage with Carmen, I could have sworn that her left bosom was a touch too exposed, as if the v-neck had shifted and a hint of aureole was peeking out, but maybe it was just the lighting. (?)  I hope it wasn’t.

  • Laylalola

I think she looks fabulous and appropriate. Really, the thing is only for a red carpet and nowhere else.

  • altalinda

Usually I’m all for modesty, but I guess this dress has me under its spell.  She looks great.

  • I agree!  Enough of the boobs already Jo Lo.  We know you have a great body already.  Gawd.

  • sweatpantalternative

That “look at our bootys” gimmick she and Diaz pulled during the award presentation was embarrassing.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

that was so that lopez could adjust the top of her dress to avoid an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction.

  • m0r0

She is serving up Liz Taylor old school style and she looks fabulous. I couldn’t imagine her wearing it anywhere else.

  • altalinda

Usually I’m all for modesty, but I guess this dress has me under its spell.  She looks great.

  • Doesn’t starring in Gigli automatically disqualify you from ever attending the Oscars? She needs to GO AWAY.

  • It’s the cut on the boobs that is killing it for me — when she was presenting I was holding my breath afraid one of them was going to pop out.  When you start getting worried about someone else having a wardrobe malfunction if she takes a deep breath, the dress probably wasn’t the best choice.

    • Lisa

True – I thought she looked gorgeous, but she had me nervous that one of those boobages was going to make an escape with just the slightest turn.

  • annieanne

This is the woman who wore cutouts to meet the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
She has no appreciation for appropriate dress.

  • ArchaicSmile

It was a monstrously dull show up until the point when Jennifer and Cameron appeared on stage. If there was a little nip-slippage, I didn’t notice. All I could think was maybe they should have Jennifer stand on stage looking every inch the shiny diva while Mr. Crystal phoned it in from his dressing room.

  • turtleemily

Is the straight line cutting across her forehead bad makeup blending or a weird tan line?

  • ri_dic

To me, it borderlines tacky. Not that she doesn’t look great in it.

  • thebitterkitten

This seriously could have been a lot worse…we’ve seen her in worse. I think its a step in the right direction. I think with JLo you have to expect cut outs and nipples. It does borderline tacky but at least its on the right side of it.

  • Huh. I think she looks entirely fine, but I wasn’t aware that there was an ipso facto Oscar dress code. To me, every year some wear couture and look great, some wear couture and look like shit, and some wear other stuff and also look either great or shitty. She looks appropriate to me.

  • adnama79

Deeply ironic that she delivered the Edith Head line about dressing like a lady while presenting.

  • BrightsideSusan

JLo was the wrong person to do the “loose enough to show you are a lady” quote.  She could use that advice.

I wonder whose idea it was to turn their backs to the camera?

  • CatherineRhodes

  • up with pod people

I love love loved it. If Cleopatra were alive today she’d wear it.

  • mila_8

My eye was drawn to the sad saggy mesh on her upper right arm. Like a bad ice skating costume.

The only thing I don’t like is the arm cut outs, I actually think the rest is pretty fabulous. I’ve never been a fan of that hairstyle, though; too prom-y. I guess that’s her thing, though.

  • I’m not a fan of this look and honestly, JLo frequently lets me down on the runway.  I don’t like the sleeves AT ALL.  But the real sin is the hair.  I grew up in the 60’s in a dusty little town in the mid-west where no one had any taste.  I saw that hair on so many diva-wannabes who were WAY past their prime.   Seeing it again is bringing back painful memories.  UGH.

  • She tries to hard and always ends up looking just a bit too tacky.

  • Sophie Collier

Oh hell, it’s JLo.  IN and perfect for her.

  • jnicholehardy

I hate this and I HATE HATE HATE her hair.  Over the “donut on my head” look!  Ughh!  Branch out JLo

  • mike__tv

    STOP with this Jen…out
