Oscars In or Out: Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton

Posted on February 26, 2012

We feel like this one is going to be one of the more debated dresses of the night. Or maybe we feel like we’re going to be getting a lot of disagreement on this one when we say…

We just didn’t love it. Now, there was some discussion among the various E! bobbleheads that the dress was closer to coral-colred than the red it appears in to be in pictures, but we don’t think our opinion would change either way. It’s not the color that’s the issue here. It’s just an over-designed dress to our eyes. Ruffley and peplumy with shirred boobs and even a twee little brooch, it’s all looking like an OUT us, we’re sorry to say.

But again, the makeup looks fantastic.

Vote Now!

IN! Romantic and pretty!

OUT! Twee as fuck!

Voting on Rooney Mara’s creepy corpse bride look is still open and awaiting your opinion breathlessly.

  • In. Precious is her thing.

    • I agree, it’s not exactly ‘Avant Garde’ but she makes it work, she looks happy too and that always helps.

    • You nailed – it’s totally her.  I’m not a huge fan of her look in general, but I think this was a great dress for her.

    • SneakyKitty

      Exactly.  It works on her.

  • rumcg66

IN. I can’t help it, the romantic thing works for me, and for her.

  • S R

    OUT.  Too twee and fussy.

    • agreed.

    • Nina Garcia chose this as her favorite dress of the night. Oh, well.

      • PrincessSlaya

Nina was on ether last night.  All she did was smile and giggle and post “Thanks!  I love EVERYONE!” on Twitter.

        • bellafigura1

Totally!  I almost didn’t recognize her, she was so cheerful and goofy!

    • out. Out. OUT!

  • pawtley

Although she is glowing, it’s just too fussy. OUT.

Also, what’s that beige thing on the back?

    • That’s her skin, I think.

      •  Definitely not her skin.  You can tell in the third picture that it is some sort of fabric on the back of the dress.  Wish we had a picture from that angle.

        • Hi ecallaw.  You’re totally right.  I saw another pic at EW.com or something.  Still love the dress, but the back paneling takes it down a notch or two.  Its a weird, nudish, shiny satin.

    • cindybeeintex

Is it like something from an ice skater’s outfit?

    • ms_kat

Rumor from those with TVs tell me that it was actually a beige corsety back. Can’t find any pics on line to corroborate.

  • Jessica Kyler

In. the color is incredible on her, I think, and the detailed fabric and cut of the dress makes for an interesting look. I think it fits and flatters– a little odd, yes, but I think she works it by keeping the accessories simple.

Except I could totally do without that oddly-placed bow broach.

    • Psst: brooch. “Broach” is a verb (ok, also a noun, but I really don’t think we mean “a spit for roasting meat” here, because OW).

But yeah, it’d be better without that little diamond bow. It’s unnecessary and distracting. And I think I’d like the whole thing better if the weird bust weren’t distracting me: if the whole bodice were straight horizontal bands, I’d be on board.

  • KrateBay

Out. The peplum is limp, and the whole thing fights with itself.

  • butterflysunita

IN.  I don’t like the dress either, but she looks pretty.

  • IAmJ

Oh gawd, I hate it. Which makes me sad because I love Michelle, twee as she is. She could have done so much better. I hate the necklace too. OUT, of course.

  • OUT, that frigging bow.

    • Celandine1

LOL I didn’t even see the bow till I saw your post because i was so distracted by the competing ruffles and tiers.

    • Saoirse Lee

The bow really is the twee cherry on top, isn’t it? And why does she have the facial expressions of a precocious three year old girl at a studio portrait session?

  • colleenjanel

Out. The peplum is a complete look killer. It’s too heavy and limp. I don’t like the makeup colors or the clutch color with that shade of red/coral.

    • Chantelle James

Totally agree. OUT – way too over-designed.

  • In.
Love the color. Probably could’ve done without a few elements, but I still like it.

  • Alisa Rivera

Out. The peplum looks like a bordello curtain.

  • Wilted dyed cabbage leaves. OUT.

  • Ana

    OUT. Fail

  • Is twee really not over yet?

    • CassandraMortmain

Twee will never be over for Michelle.  When she’s 60 she’s going to be dressing like Bette Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane.

  • artsykelly

She is gorgeous. I LOVE the color and idea of the shape… but it photographs like a freaking chenille bedspread.  I had one in pink and I probably would have worn it as a dress I loved it so much.

  • I feel like this should’ve been a “Girl, that’s not your dress”.  This is NOT a dress for a lass without curves. Period.

    • I don’t understand, I think a peplum is perfect for a girl without curves, because it gives the illusion of hips even if you don’t have any. Now, I speak as a girl with hips to spare, so I might be delusional about that, but it seems like this is better than a straight up and down fitted gown, which would just make her look like a sausage.

      • it’s not A peplum that I take issue with, so much as THIS peplum. To my eyes, she still looks straight up and down, just with a flounce highlighting the fact.

  • Mariah J

OUT she’s hit a style rut. NO MORE TWEE. The shirred boobs took the dress too far.

  • In. But this would work only on Michelle Williams. She’s a cute little pixie.

  • OUT. It would have been less twee without the added peplum. So close Michelle. You look like you feel pretty, so that’s all that matters, I guess. 😉

  • IN! If anyone can do precious, it’s Minnie Mouse here.

  • ChristinaRi

That little diamond bow — so precious —  Makes me want to vomit.

Plus peplum and pink cutie purse —  Makes me want to punch her.

    • FashionShowAtLunch

      Geez. That’s a little intense.

    • McSpanky

      I totally agree.

  • scrappy1

Out.  From a distance, she looks like she’s wearing a chenille bath mat.

  • quiltrx

OUT.  Twee as fuck, and looks like a “whore red” chenille bedspread from a distance.

    • Judih1

I was going to give it an IN, until I read your comment which caused me to not only LOL, but totally change my mind

  • Overdesigned. OUT.

  • elleg929

In but I loathe the lipstick color choice.

  • lalahartma

Yeah, I’m on the fence.  It _is_ too ruffly for my taste.  She does wear it well, however.

  • Agreed. OUT. The different tiers, with the bow clip and the ruffles, and then to wear a necklace on top of all of it, its just too much.

  • Els

Its weird to see such an IN dress be debated so hotly.

  • mommyca

Sorry guys, i’m with la Nina on this one: love it! IN!

  • I’m going to have to say OUT. She might have eked out an in from me if she’d gotten rid of one element.

  • jw_ny

hate the shape and all that detailing…color is fine.

  • I love it.  Fashionable and it looks like her.  She didn’t try to be someone else and I love her for it.  I’d wear it. In.

  • jenno1013

Out.  It didn’t need the peplum.  But I like the brooch.

  • Jaspreet5

    IN! She looks amazing.

  • IN but I hate it. I’m trying to  channel my other fashion editor self. Seriously though, I agree with you two that it’s over-designed and I HATE the bow pin and Tim and NIna were going on and on about it and ick. But she’s IN because her dress fits and she looks fine.

  • neadsie

    I am all IN.

  • siriuslover

Hmmm…. In. I get all your critiques, and even agree with them, but I still like it.

  • understateddiva

Why wear that when I picked this one out for you?!?  so close!  http://www.dior.com/couture/en_us/Fashion-Accessories/Couture/Haute-Couture/Collection/Spring-Summer-2012/Look-N-40

  • mjude

very much IN for me & i adore the diamond bow!

  • Pennymac

Out. That peplum looks like a bathroom rug. The stills are revealing to me that the dress is overdone.

And thank you, TLo, for posting as I’m watching the oscars with my laptop. I feel like I’m spending the evening with you! Can we have a lounge for this next year? Pretty Please?

  • MK03

It would have been fine without that stupid peplum.

  • hughman

The peplum ruined it. It’s like cafe curtains for her hips. Too much.

  • cindybeeintex

OUT. I hated it. But love the color.

  • OUT. Flat out. Sorry, I did not agree with Nina or Tim, and oh those things at E… nope.

  • TieDye64

IN, though it is twee as hell. It’s her shtick.

  • So difficult. Hate the dress for the ruffle quality. Love her overall look and the bold color. In the end, it’s an IN

  • In. I think it just worked.

  • Oh my no. I was wondering why my Aunt’s curtain sheers and valences were walking the red carpet. Just too much going on. OUT

  • Scarlet39

There’s just too much going on with that dress, and the brooch is just overkill.

And she’s finally wearing jewelry, but it’s the wrong jewelry!

  • unbornfawn

    Thank you. Overdesigned indeed. OUT

  • zelavie

Makeup is a total IN.  I’m kinda undecided on the dress.  So I guess since I have no strong opinion from the neck down, the success of her head will make this an IN.

  • Out. Twee as fuck shit.

  • She’s on my ‘Girl, it’s time for a new look’ list.  Out.

  • A PEPLUM on an Oscar gown?  And what is it with those uneven rows of ruffles in the skirt? They don’t look edgy, they look like they were applied drunk.  Out, out, out.

  • Cousin_Rose

Not perfect but pretty. IN Way better color than Emma’s

  • Farthingale

Out. This is not her dress. I can see it on Halle Berry, or another carmel complected lady.

  • It looks overwrought to me. She’s lovely, but OUT.

  • Dhammadina

Thought the bow is a bit much  the red dress is beautiful. In.

  • OUT. That bow takes this from perfect to twee craft project in 2 square inches.

  • ms_kat

I hate the peplum and I was hoping to see the back. Rumor had it that it was a beige colored corset back which definitely pushes this into WAY OUT.

  • NasserShaheen

It looks like a PR unconventional challenge outfit. And not a winning look either. But it somehow works on her. In.

  • I really liked it, but I think it would have been better with a modified sweetheart neckline.

  • Totally in! Agreed that she’s maybe in a style rut, but you can’t deny that she looks great!

  • finnishmaria

Nooooo I think she looks amazing! In!

  • pawtley

Great glowing face, but dress is too fussy.

  • In. I think it’s femme and flirty and twee in the right way and the color and makeup give it the restrain to make it work.

  • OUT! Enough with her looking like room decorations already. Williamsburg Chic.

  • Have to disagree; it’s twee as fuck, but I’ve never objected to Michelle’s tendency to go that route.

  • sherrietee

I thought Nina Garcia was smoking something when she said it was the best dress of the night.  OUT.

  • SVLynn

The dress was ok, I thought the worst part was the necklace and brooch just were so wrong with it. A different necklace and bag and it would have looked much better.

  • fringebenefit

IN. I understand your critique, TLo, but Michelle is pulling it off. Big time.

  • lonepear

In. It’s not a look for everyone. But it’s very her.

  • Out. I’ve had enough.

  • Katrina Mayr

In! I may have toned down the peplum by a few hundred layers, but I love it regardless and much moreso on video.

  • calimon

Out for the peplum, Out for the hair color, Out for the shade of lipstick. It’s all wrong.

  • brookeinmn

Yeah…Out. The peplum is too heavy. I love the color, but it’s too much for her small frame.

  • dress_up_doll

IN, but still twee as fuck? I think she looks great and kept trying to adjust the picture on my television to get something other than red.

  • Nope. Out with you, tiny bow and boring dress!

  • AzulFashion

IN.  I love it on her.

  • in

  • benjamin478

Overdesigned and that brooch kills (in the bad way), but it’s a put together look and stylish enough for an IN

  • bitterk

    One ruffle too many, OUT

  • KuriousKat

In. Totally in. Who else could pull that off? She did it well.

  • Courtney Hellams

I typically loathe everything she wears, but this is pretty cute. IN!

  • TheLaurenJean

I’m just shocked to find out that she has teeth! Looks so much better when she actually smiles!

  • SheWhoMustBeObeyed

Oh yeah, there’s a lot going on, isn’t there? This is the first full-length photo I’ve seen. I didn’t realize the skirt had so much going on.

    It’s just so twee. Out.

  • schadenfreudelicious

crepe paper peplum and silly bow broach….OUT

  • Sorry T & Lo… I LOVE it

  • Joey Melliza

    she looks lovely!

  • I like it. In.

  • Not doing her figure any favors. But I give her points for taking a risk and the color (loooove coral).

  • Cynica

She’s become one of the celebrities I hate irrationally–my Gwyneth, if you will. So, Twee. As. Fuck.

  • DesertDweller79

It is so close.  Without the silly broach I would come close to liking it.  The dress is overdesigned, for sure.  I don’t know…  Color is nice on her.  Hair and makeup are beautiful.  She looks like she loves it.  So, I’ll reluctantly say IN.

  • Elena

In. It suits her, in a way.

  • In. the color trumps the precious-ness, not that it is a bad thing for her.

  • tired_mommy

Out. Makes her figure look like a young boy.

  • In! I love it. Romantic but not twee.

  • Judy_J

It’s twee, but it’s her style and it suits her. The fit is flawless and that color looks fantastic on her. IN.

  • SatelliteAlice

In.  I think she looks sweet.

  • cowper

    In! Great color, ladylike.

  • emily mcginnis

i don’t like the peplum. and the back is just TERRIBLE!

  • Lauren Thomas

HATE the clutch, taking the tweed too far but she is owning the dress and her image so snaps up! IN

  • crackineggs

I really want to love it, but I can’t.  Out.

  • Olggie

Oh my. In. No doubt. Only she could wear this so well.

  • It’s like a dyed vintage chenille bedspread fashioned into a dress for a little girl.  She looks lost in it somehow.

  • I don’t know what it is exactly about the dress, but she is working it. IN.

  • MarissaLG

    In! I like it!

  • Gorengirl

    In, She looks great!

  • R. L.

Too much going on indeed.  OUT.

  • BrisbaneLockyer

Out, to me the dress looks overworked and tacky.

  • lucasuk82

In, after some fierce self-debate.  Pros – Excellent color, great bag choice, mag necklace, fabulous texture, great makeup/hair.  Cons – overly complicated peplum and precarious, over the top brooch.  What tips it into “in” for me is she took a chance and looks exceedingly confident.  (She loves that blackened metal for her borrowed bling, no?  She wore a diamond/blackened metal necklace with the yellow dress for the Brokeback Year.)

  • CassandraMortmain

Nina Garcia was having orgasms over this look.  It was her favorite of the night.  She especially loved the brooch and the pink clutch.  I think the brooch and the clutch push a very busy look into overkill.   Still, she’s carrying it off and looks good  – and I say that as someone who usually can’t stand her.  So a lowercase in.

  • It’s not that it’s twee, it’s that it’s overdesigned. The cups, the peplum, the bow pin, the unfinished edges, the train… too much. OUT.

  • Pupioso

    Hate the peplum. Yuck.

  • saanrio

OUT.  Get rid of the peplum(sp?) and even with the broach, I could handle it, but as it is, just too much.

  • Nariya

Out. She looks like a box on top of another box.

  • Out, just too much frippery.  Also I don’t like the return to the bleached blond hair

  • Beautiful.  IN.

  • Out out out out out out out out out out out out out out I am so tired of her not being able to pull of twee and consistently trying to do so. Starting head down, her haircut is offensively twee, her lipstick is concentrated clown, the dress is an interesting idea sans twee little brooch but generally doesn’t flatter her very well at all and gives her table hips. The ruffling is just not a good plan on this dress either. The only positive thing I will say is that she can pull off that color fairly well.

  • MeiraNiibori

IN!  While I don’t love the hair color – too platinum to really work for her coloring – I think the sexy bombshell hair & makeup with the romantic dress, necklace, and especially the bow pin combine into a fabulously disingenuous expression of twee-ness.  The pin, especially, is the perfect punctuation for the look, and pushes it over the line from naively, sincerely teeth-achingly sweet to a very deliberate, subversive, (perhaps almost a bit campy?) yet subtle skewering of the spirit of tweeness.  And at the same time, the dress color is great, the shape overall suits her and shows her figure nicely, and she really looks good overall.

Honestly, though, I get a “mocking the twee” vibe from her rather frequently, so I may be biased here.  She usually looks good, and completely realized, if that makes sense, but somehow also manages to convey a bit of a knowing tongue-in-cheek attitude as well.  I think it’s combination of the obviously grown up sexy woman wearing the little-girl outfits, like porn actresses in schoolgirl uniforms – but classier! – that gives me that impression.  Well, that and the fact that the outfits are so usually well done – people who are sincerely twee seem to be more tone-deaf about the nuances of dressing, and often seem to end up looking silly or frumpy or just plain bad a lot more often than she does.   Maybe I’m completely seeing my own interpretation where it doesn’t exist, but she seems like a pretty smart lady, and I can’t imagine her/her people crafting this twee image without some kind of subtext.

  • portlandmermaid

It’s pretty cute, sans bow, but wow, way to make a diamond necklace look drab. It needed better jewelry to pull together the color of the dress and her lipstick.

  • So, I only saw the upper part of the dress and I was all “…why is there a post, it was awesome!”.  Yeah, the rest – not so much.  Out.  Out for that little thing on the waist and all the overworking.

  • There’s just something off about the ruffles.  Like the color though.

  • I like it….IN. 🙂

  • Sweetpea176

Nina Garcia raved about this, but I think it looks like a chenille bedspread.  Out.

  • Pterodactyl111

Out. I think “over-designed” is the key word.

  • Mirakel9

Looks like a limp curtain at her waist. Tired of her twee/pixie look, move ON!

  • Didn’t like it.  Not as much as Nina did.

  • P M

Twee AND wierd. Neon poofy cake-topper. OUT.

  • ThaliaMenninger

“It’s just an over-designed dress to our eyes. Ruffley and peplumy with
shirred boobs and even a twee little broach, it’s all looking like an
OUT us, we’re sorry to say.” <<<< I agree with this.

  • kcarb1025

twee as fuck OUT OUT OUT

  • ccm800

out – shes like Tickle Me Elmo drag

  • I’m sick of her twee shtick, but it is her thing I guess, and the color is really great on her. I was ready to give this a barely-IN, but I noticed the back is some weird beige corset thing and that’s sunk it past the boundary. OUT.

  • It’s a little overdone for sure, but still pretty. IN

  • leave_Blake_alone

OUT. I’m so over her red carpet looks, and this is definitely not the best of them. Even as far as “twee as fuck” goes, there’s better twee looks than this.

Her facial expression seems to be saying “My farts smell delightful and I know it” and I actually kind of respect her for that.

  • Anna Tree

great make-up, great color. But I can’t “in” LV. OUT

  • JuliaInBlack

What a gorgeous color on her – but i hate the brooch and the peplum needs to go back on the bathroom floor from whence it came. OUT

  • LP

  • AuntieAnonny

She looks like an annoying cupcake. OUT

  • butter nut

in, but…  it’s an INBUT dress.  she looks gorgeous, but that frilly peplum & that prissy bow are bugging me out.  i just want to rip them off.  w/o those 2 elements, i think this could be amazing.

  • MissMariRose

    Still twee as fuck.

  • PeaceBang

She looks fabulous but the dress IS over-designed. Not her fault. IN.

  • PastryGoddess

I actually liked the dress until I saw that brooch, and then I wen’t uh uh.  it jumped the twee shark at that point

  • sarahofalessergod

  • She looks beautiful and not overly twee. IN.

  • guestela

  • Anathema_Device

I don’t dig it. Nina Garcia was loving it, but I just wasn’t feeling it. I might like it without the peplum and bow brooch.

  • Tom Shea

OUT. Michelle, hop off the Twee Twain.

  • I don’t care for the layers on the boobs, but I otherwise like, if not love, this on her. My TV showed it as a bright tomato red, but I would probably like it more if it were a bright coral. Either way, IN.

  • Wish there was a good shot of the back, because it looks like there is a fabric of nude fabric across her back, which I don’t like. I might be willing to give it an “In” otherwise, but I have to go with “Out” for the weird back.

  • OUT. Twee as fuck and the peplum just kills the silhouette. And that fucking bow is just INFURIATING to me. Gorgeous color, but it needed some hardcore editing.

  • I’m probably one of the few people who actually really loves this. In.

  • Amy Ellinger

IN, because of the color and accessories.

  • IN.

  • girliecue

I was on the fence until reading posts from sharp-eyed kittens that the back was a beige corset. You can see a tiny bit of it in the last pic and the guy in the background looks like he’s thinking, “good lord is that a beige corset?!?”. Also, peplumed long dresses will never not scream 1980s (or was it early 1990s?) bridesmaid dress to me. So close, Michelle, but ultimately Out.

  • Sara__B

Out. (And I think I’ll like the flesh colored back even less, but I can’t find any photos!)

  • nannypoo

I like the color but hate the bag and the pink lipstick with it. And all those teeny little layers are too fluffy for me. I think I hate this. There is really no good reason for her to look so smug.

  • DeborahLipp

In. It’s very pretty but not the exact same thing she always wears. Not too twee IMO.

  • Toto Maya

I disagree with you guys on a few of these, but on this one I agree. I didn’t like it. I wouldn’t go so far as to say out, but meh. Too much hangity crap.

  • In! I love it.

  • IN, purty.

  • Julianneee

IN. She looks great and I actually like the brooch.

  • Nope. I love it. Sorry to disagree. I get the over-twee-ness. But I think it’s fabulous and it works for her. I’m a Michelle Williams skeptic, and I’m kind of over the pixie look, but I love this dress.

I would like to see it from the back, though. Is it backless? White? I’m confused.

  • The only thing that keeps this from being in WERQ territory for me is that damned pixie cut that she just won’t let go of.

  • Natasha Fairweather

Out. Looks like she skinned a Muppet.

  • MilaXX

It’s IN but definitely still in her wheelhouse. I don’t like the pink bag with it though.

  • StrandedFashionista

IN. She does cute so well, and this is no exception.

  • In. Very pretty, feminine, unique enough. She stands out but not in an attention whore way.
I do see it’s a bit twee, but I like twee.

  • holdmewhileimnaked

whoever stuck the bow to her belt should have been, so help me, struck. she doesnt need to put a whole lotta any more effort into looking like a six year old. isnt her kid even older than that?

otoh, it’s a far better dress than her usual. fabulous color even w/ the nearly jerrel number of built-in notions. otoh, she may actually be, of all things, too thin for it. then again, it may only be me who thinks she lacks the mae west va va va voomery required to pull this one either on or off. i cant tell what’s in the mind of the guy behind her–someone who probably everyone else recognizes but i can only describe as kind of a cross between slim bill clinton & maybe gary busey maybe billy bob thornton–but he seems to be appreciative. then again, again, he could be appreciating her or maybe he is just impressed by the quantity & counting the nearly infinite variations of the multifarious bands & ruffles & wrinkles & foofaraw that make up her dress. who can know.

  • LJCdoc

Out. Twee as fuck, you took the words right outta my mouth.

  • IN. Precious and I loved the color.

  • AWStevens

Same dress as Natalie Portman but Nat had better jewelry AND a better shade of red.

  • Love it. IN.

  • j_anson

IN. It IS overdesigned, but I feel like it’s a bolder color than she usually wears, which is nice; she can handle it. It’s not a home run, but it’s not a strike-out either.

  • LesYeuxHiboux

It’s a good thing she didn’t win, she won’t want this dress remembered and replayed into perpetuity when she recovers her senses. OUT.

  • julnyes

I think the color is fantastic on her, but the dress is completely overwrought – OUT

  • LauraWL

OUT. Also, I’d appreciate if she’d stop blinking as if she WAS Marilyn Monroe.

  • OUT. She’s just too damn twee! I just can’t get behind this.

  • TAGinMO

I think it’s the right dress for her. Great color, and while I see the argument for “overworked,” the ruffles and peplum manage to be flattering to her shape…which is no small feat. Plus, the fit on top is flawless, which is surprisingly rare on red carpets given the cost of the gowns on display.

I give it a fairly enthusiastic IN for the well-executed, unusual combo of twee and dramatic.

  • I’ll vote IN, ’cause I’m a twee kind of gal.

I kept yelling at the E! bobbleheads because to me this dress looks poppy red. I heard coral, red, and tangerine from the chattering crowd on the boob tube.

  • Celandine1

OUT. Too many ruffles going in too many different directions and too many tiers. Too much.

  • sleepycat

OUT, it is not working for me

OUT!!  Michelle turns everything into little girl’s dress up.  It’s not just the twee though, it’s the clumsiness.

Diane Keaton turned her clumsiness into a new fashion statement.  She had a round little precious face, too.  If these clothes make Michelle as uncomfortable as she always looks, cover it up, wear tweed, hoods, SOMETHING.  I’d so tired of her awkward ass teetering like a toddler on the runway.  Diane turned her discomfort into something smashing.  Learn, Michelle, LEARN.

  • I’ll give it an IN. It looks orange to me. Points for the unusual color. Fits nicely, flatters her. Really only thing I don’t like is that it clashes with her hair.

  • IN. I don’t even like her, but I was expecting her to come in some black and white deal with sleeves and a crew neck, so this is a pleasant surprise. She’s staying true to her aesthetic without dragging out the same-old, same-old. What’s not to love?

  • beebee10

IN completely gorgeous and she pulls it off!

  • Out. No argument here. The dress looks like a limp dishrag soaked in tomato sauce.

  • filmcricket

OUT. This looks even worse here than it did on my TV screen.

  • miwome

I say IN. I wish the bow thingy were just a blingy belt instead–it would help break up all the red–but I think this dress is unusual, few people could carry off a peplum like that and I think she’s doing it, and I really like the texture of it.

But what’s up with the back? It’s obvious there’s something going on there, and I can’t find pictures of it anywhere.

  • Jennifer L.

Out. From the distance of the first picture, the textured ruffles look like fur. And not the cruelty-free, good kind of fur, but the kind that Elmo leaves in the sink when he shaves his back.

  • M Masingill

Long-time lurker, first time commenter. I enthusiastically vote in. It’s not a perfect dress but it is full of visual interest, and I like the way the fluffy layers contrast with her short haircut. It’s nice to see something a bit more unexpected on the RC; most notably, the rectangular cut-out back.

  • Helen C

She’s so dowdy.  No matter what she wears or how she’s made up, she always look so dowdy.

  • Hannah Matzner

IN. Yes, it’s a bit fussy, but the longer I look at this dress, the more it works for me. She’s gorgeous, and if there’s anywhere to rock an odd shape and ruffles, it’s the oscars.

  • AudreysMom

Hate it. Like a birthday cake with icing the wrong color and too many tiers on a wedding cake – the one that we know came from a really good baker but the outside of it just made us feel sad and hope for better days.

  • Not what I’d hoped for… I’d hoped that she’d pick a slinkier dress. For all the feminine touches, the fabric manipulation and overblown peplum work against her natural shape, giving her a straight silhouette. The clutch in that juvenile shade of bubblegum pink wasn’t the right choice, either.

Michelle, with a heavy heart, I call thee OUT.

  • cleep1000

It’s not so bad. Overall, she looks pretty. The silhouette works. The color is beautiful against her skin. Don’t understand the pink lipstick, but whatever. IN.

  • fridacormorant

In.  It’s her dress, but perhaps no one else’s.

  • knitnorth

In I can’t help it! She looks too good to be out

  • leilah

    Michelle — very pretty.
Dress — BUGLY….not one attractive element.

  • Evelina Chang

Out. That brooch placement is out of place and strange, and the peplum + weird placement of ruffles – too much, imo.

  • joe_tey83

    It’s a red lettuce dress.

  • IN (though the shirred boobs do make it a bit too much)!

  • demidaemon

OUT. It’s a hideous dress, no matter what color it is.

  • Ugh, out. I hate the fabric, I hate the shape, I hate the brooch, and if the actual colour was closer to coral I probably hate the colour too.

  • greatscoutm

    In. One of my favorites.

  • alyce1213

In.  It’s her dress, and hers alone.

  • IN. Although I would have preferred it without the brooch.

  • rainwood1

OUT for design. styling, and color.

  • marco5ny

    The pixie is hiddy.  Out.

  • riley32i4

IN! It looks great on her. And I love the unique color.

  • brora

Boring. Her personality is too little for that dress.

  • I love Michelle, and it doesn’t bother me when she goes a little twee since it’s her personnality, so I’m really sad to say it but… OUT. Twee is OK but this was way too much, sorry.

  • mandy rees

OUT!!! Aussie judges loved it but it’s sh*t ugly to me!

  • RzYoung

Think she looks great, I’ll never Out her I’m afraid. IN. I like the bow brooch and those diamonds round her neck look really vintage and cute. IN.

  • FayeKat

I tried to like it, i love the color and it’s less twee than usual, but no, i really really don’t like this dres… OUT

  • out. it’s unflattering in the extreme; it takes away her subtle curves and makes it look like a tissue paper dress made by a 6 year old.

  • She looks like one of those dolls my grandmother put over the TP rolls

  • I’m not crazy about the dress, but it works for her. The lipstick color really bugs me. Still, she’s IN.

  • Stefanie Mackenzie

    So OUT.

  • PrincessSlaya

Out.  Grow up.  I can’t stand her.

    •  Ugh. Thanks for the picture, I guess. I kept wondering what that contrast color we were glimpsing might be. The twee girl’s girdle, apparently.

  • Claudia Fernandes

  • IN! Twee as fuck. But that’s our girl.

  • In, but just barely – that damn bow has got to GO.

  • KathKo

I think I had a bed cover just like that, back in the 80’s. Okay, it was beige. Still, design wise it’s an almost vintage bed cover

  • Out.  Awful. Lipstick makes it even worse.

  • GorgeousThings

OUT. It’s a sad approximation of Lee McQueen’s oyster dress.

  • from a distance it looks crocheted, for a kindergarten prom.

  • Raquel Henriques

  • In. I generally liked this look for her, although in these photos her lippie and dress appear to be fighting.

  • Out.  She’s done better and the tiers are just too much.

  • estella_nyc

OUT – I hate the peplum and the brooch.

  • estella_nyc

OUT – I hate the peplum and the brooch.

  • SewingSiren

I like brooches at the waistline.

  • homespunner

    In! Romantic and Pretty.

  • O H

Prom-y.  So over the cropped hair, and horrible bleach job.

  • polishpauper

Out! I had super high hope when we caught a glimpse of the dress, but then when I really saw it, I was disappointed. It could have been brilliant with one of the details, not all of them!

  • BayTampaBay

IN! Only because she looks good.

  • Tentative In. I dislike matching lipstick to purse, but the dress (while over-designed) looks very cute on her.

  • Deedles

Her dress gives my retinas spasms. This photo is really a study in contrasts… Ms. Williams vs. the woman behind her in the nightgown with one hell of a tan. The song from Sesame Street comes to mind, “One of these things is not like the other…”

  • Cathy S

I don’t like it. It’s too ruffled. Her hair and face are gorgeous though. Sorry Michelle. You’re out.

  • piecesofconfetti

Definitely IN. I adore it. Although, she has to lose that after-thought brooch.

  • I adore the color, but the style is just okay.

  • SapphoPoet

IN. I love it, peplum, ruffles, twee brooch and all.

I think it works because her skin is so fair and her hairstyle so sleek. Anyone else would look too fussy but I think it all works here.

  • OUT.  That small skirt of ruffles over the large skirt of ruffles is where the dress got lost in design.  I do love the bow brooch.  And I swear I thought Nina was going to make out with this dress she raved about it so much.

  • Michelle Wann Haynes

IN.  I think it’s the perfect look for her.  I didn’t find it twee at all – on her.

  • Pants_are_a_must

I feel like there should be a “twee” alarm with her on the RC: “TWEE! TWEE! TWEE!”

I mean, you guys, she’s wearing a damn DIAMOND BOW BROOCH.

  • h2olovngrl

I am just happy to see a real smile and not the Mona Lisa thing she usually does. So “in” for me!

    • malvernite

ditto. finally, some teeth. that old woman, pursed, close-mouthed smile she sports most of the time was starting to make me irrationally dislike her.

    • malvernite

ditto. finally, some teeth. that old woman, pursed, close-mouthed smile she sports most of the time was starting to make me irrationally dislike her.

  • I actually love the shape of the dress, but too many other factors are working against her – that weird red/coral color (too close to the red carpet for me), the mismatched lipstick, the stupid twee silver bow….sorry Michelle, OUT.

  • DinaSews

OUT.  Too fussy and adding the little diamond bow just shows how she really doesn’t get it.

  • tsid2012

It’s not a dress to my taste, a little too fussy and “Grandmother’s Austrian Shades” for me, but she does look very pretty and is probably one of the very few people who could make this dress work this well.

  • in!!!

  • Makeup, hair & necklace are awesome, but that dress is just too twee for me.  Out

  • out.  Overdone and overdesigned.  I don’t like peplums. 🙂

  • sagecreek

In. A bit too frou frou when it comes to the fabric, yes, but classy and well-tailored to her figure.

  • Renee Bender

In!  Maybe a little over-designed, but I think she looks gorgeous.

  • In.  Too twee for anyone else, but it works for her.

  • Kate McCain

Barely In. I hatehate the back (if you haven’t seen it it’s a nude corset) but the front’s okay. The bow brooch makes it Michelle-Williams-twee.

  • Susan Crawford

OUT. Great color for her, but this is a dress that is SO over-designed the eyes just bounce from one thing to another trying to figure out WHAT the overall point of it is. I’m totally over the semi-mermaid, extended fish-tail look, too. Props for going strapless, Michelle, but apparently the Elven-folk would not permit her to leave her palace in the Woodland Glade of Enchantment without adding a cute little sparkly bow, and two coats of Faery Fuschia lipstick.

    • sagecreek

SNORF. I thought it was an “in”, but had to give you a like for the Woodland Glade of Enchantment.

  • LongTall_Sally

IN.  I don’t disagree with you — the dress has at least one element too many.  I’d remove the peplum first, if I could, and the diamond bow is twee and unnecessary.  But she looks lovely.

  • Jecca2244

i’m saying in although that peplum might be a bit too much.

  • In. An unexpected choice but she makes this dress works.

  •  OUT … just out.  Sad vintage prom dress

  • Out. Cant explain it.

  • Larkin21

I love the color and I like the top of the dress but the weird extra skirt/tier thing and all? Not so much. I’d probably give it a begrudging “IN” but with some many people calling it the best dress of the night? I can’t help but say OUT. Barely OUT.

  • LAjane81

In, if only because it’s less twee than usual, not a crewneck, and a color. I don’t dig the peplum though.

  • twocee

In.  I don’t find this twee at all, and I’m normally on the anti-twee shrieking bandwagon.

  • Damien W

IN, but the seesaw is close to level. The bad boobage turns good again when she’s in profile. So the dress werqs more from the side than from the front. I wish I saw a back view, it doesn’t look very flattering around the hiney.

But although the dress has flaws, Michelle is just beaming out from it, so it’s almost irrelevant to judge it. She WERQd it.

  • miatamam

IN.  She balanced adorable and mature gracefulness.  The brooch was a bit too far but she’s exuding a confidence I haven’t seen from her so far.  (Plus I love she took her best pal to the event.  Sort of the ultimate GirlsNightOut.)

  • bringbackbeatles

OUT…I didn’t get all the love for this. I hate that peplum. It’s just too much.

  • bookish

IN just because she looks pretty and happy. I love everything about it except the thing around her waist, which I’m willing to forgive.

  • McSpanky

OUT. Am I the only one growing tired of her “I’m a twee fragile pixie” routine? I just want to shake her and say “Grow up! You’re an aging single mother!”

And coral should not be worn anywhere but Miami Beach.

  • In! My favorite dress of the night!!

  • kelsita421

    It works for me. IN!

  • fungstyle

out. she needs to get over this twee thing. she could be edgy and interesting, but defaults to infantilization. tragic.

  • DominoEstella

    IN.  SUPER IN.

  • Can I vote her IN from the waist up and OUT from the waist down? I loved the choker and makeup and the fit of the bodice. But the ruffles and peplum are too much for me.

  • aimee_parrott

OUT.  it’s a bit much for me

  • Amanda Entwistle

OUT – I didn’t love it either, although I agree that the hair and makeup looks great.  That stupid brooch was killing me.

  • halleygee

What am I missing? I really like this on her just hate the lipstick.

  • I think a better necklace- something to match that twee brooch would’ve been perfect. I’m fine with the dress. A inch over into OUT, because of that necklace.

  • deathandthestrawberry

I’m not crazy about the ruffles on the lower part of the skirt, but it’s not a deal breaker. She looks beautiful and the color is stunning. In.

  • fiestyfashionfem

I’m afraid it is an OUT.

  • Liz

    love it

  • Out. I feel like if you removed the peplum and the breast-harnesses, it would be fine, but it would also be another dress entirely.

  • Any chance you’ll have the energy to do the Vanity Fair party? interesting dresses there

  • BazoDee

  • Perhaps a little too much shirring, but I like it. In.

  • In, if only for not taking a boring, safe route.  And I like the color.

  • janetjb

    Her makeup is nice.

  • I actually really like it when a celeb has a set style. Precious and “twee” is her thing and I think she does it well. IN.

  • Jennifer Coleman

The peplum is too much with the ruffles and that brooch sent me over the edge. I liked the color, whatever it was.

  • OUT

  • IN. the boldness of the colour stops it from looking too twee.

  • In. the boldness of the colour stops it from looking too twee.

  • belfebe

    Twee as fuck.

  • mozzer0906

OUT, don’t like it or her trying to look like she could still believably play on Dawson’s Creek.

  • JimMcC

    IN!!! J’adore this dress.

  • In! She’s doing her thing!

  • lrhoff

Absolutely “in”!!  She looks fantastic and very Oscar appropriate!!

  • Looks much more coral than it did on TV, where it almost matched the carper itself.  Love the color, and yes–she is so precious.  Gotta say IN.

  • Girl BROUGHT IT.

Love the little choker. But she should have stopped there. Why she had to add that stupid brooch, I’ll never know. Please stop with the bows, Michelle.

    Even so, IN.

  • OUT  Twee as fuck.  She needs to grow up.

  • EEKstl

I actually loved this – I loved the juxtaposition of the ruffly, girly gown and the pixie haircut.  My one quibble is regarding the jewelry: I wouldn’t have done both the brooch and the necklace, and if just the brooch I’d have added earrings.  While nothing will ever top that yellow Vera Wang and that spectacular gunmetal necklace (my favorite Oscar look OF ALL TIME) she looks great. IN for sure.

  • WritingWonder

It’s a close call, but I have to call this as a marginal OUT.  I think the dress is too frou-frou-frilly, and her pixie cut hair just doesn’t work with that dress.  I’m not sure who it’s the right dress for, but it’s not Michelle.

  • luciaphile

I have to give this one an out. It’s too twee.

  • Sweetie, you aren’t 13 any more. Act your age and stop trying to dress like your daughter. OUT

  • Geno Boggiatto

This look is SO twee, cutesy, super fem…. IN! 😉

  • CQAussie

I gotta say this is an IN…..I loved it!  Especially the brooch =D  I know she’s always going for cute but I think it works here and it’s less cute and more chic really, to my eye.  IN.

  • I love. IN IN IN.

  • I love. IN IN IN.

  • kentiesgirl

Out. It’s way too heavy & overworked. Also, disagree with the clutch. Not matchy matchy is one thing but out and out clash hurts my eyes. If the colors are off, then I may be wrong, but regardless OUT. There is such a thing as too many ruffles Ms. Williams, although I usually enjoy your look.

  • nancylee61

Out. Almost an in, but she had to put that stupid little bow on the waist, and overdo it, and ruin it and make it twee. Ugh. Ugly.

  • marilyn

    Out. Too busy.

  • Meh.

  • BrooklynBomber

  • tripletmom96

thank you, tlo — i was wanting to see what you would have to say about this one, because i kept hearing everyone on the red carpet shows raving about it and saying that public opinion was that it’s so spectacular, but i kept thinking “over-designed”.   if you could take off the little bow at the waist and put a plain, flowing skirt on it it would be better, although all of that ruching and the peplum really seems like too much.

  • fireontiger

Meh… I think it’s the peplum that kills it for me. Out.

  • In. I think she pulled it off beautifully.

  • Leahei

Well, it is twee as fuck.  But I kinda still like it.  IN.

  • IN. She looks fresh and happy and relaxed. And she’s in a color!

  • mhleta

I don’t know what “twee” means, but I agree–Out with the peplum. It didn’t make me projectile vomit or anything, but without it the silhouette would be stunning.

  • beebee10

    IN IN IN very striking

  • In. I don’t love it, but it certainly isn’t bad enough to deserve an out. She looks lovely, even if it’s a predictable choice. Not loving the pink clutch, though.

  • Shoelover1512

The peplum looks like an apron and I hate it lol Without that I think the dress would be great but I can’t get past that so OUT!

  • NurseEllen

Remove that hiddy peplum and I’d be all over this dress but as it is, it’s a total spoiler.  And that bow brooch at the waist only draws attention to the awfulness. OUT.

  • OUT. My mom saw that and literally went “UGH” out loud before comparing it to the taffeta dresses she wore as a little girl in the early fiftes. I just kept wondering where her big, beautiful skirt had gone and why giant rodents hand nibbled it to peplum size.

  • Caaro3

IN     I love it.  Love the color, love the peplum that gives her a little much needed volume in the hips. Love.  Sick to effing death of the word “twee”.

  • chelwi

In! I think it’s gorgeous and very her.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

Twee, schmee! She looks lovely. Definitely IN!

  • Kate4queen

IN love the color on her 🙂

  • Stefanie Mackenzie

    SOOOO wrong….

  • MoHub

Very twee, but just right for her. IN already.

  • bluefish

In.  Bet this is one of those that looks fantastic in person.  Great colour on her and some lovely workmanship there.  It is complicated but also manages to look light and breezy.

  • aristida_girl

I must say IN, even though I don’t really like the style, it looks great on her

  • michelle

    people liked that shit?! OUT

  • Out.  You’re a grown woman, Michelle.  Stop dressing like you wish you were 8 years old.

  • kimmeister

OUT.  Hate the peplum and the clashing lip color.

  • I like it all, except the different fabric on the back of the bodice. That was weird.

  • RoxieRider

My problem with it is that it’s a bit stiff. But it’s not even close to an out. Tastes may differ, it’s not her best ever, but she looks really good.

  • MsMajestyk

In. She looks lovely.  Her hair is too light though.  I’m digging the Miss Kitty’s bedside table lamp look of her dress because it’s not the same old boring colorless red carpet gown.  Not sure about that clutch though.

  • oohsparkley!

  • Ennovi_R

  • Laylalola

    Yuck. Out.

  • In-ish more than Out-ish.  Just when I thought it was going to be a all white red carpet, Michelle waltzed in with this.  I love the color, and the little brooch.  I know the PR judge was crazy about it.

  • Greg Yoder

I feel like the designer needed to look at the dress before it went out the door and then remove one element.  There should be a term for that.  Chanelization, or something.  Anyway, the element that should have been removed is probably the ruffling on the bottom.

Still and all, she looks kind of great here, so IN.

  • altalinda

In, but that bow needs to come off.

  • Joyce VG

I really like it and it looks to me like she loves it so IN.

  • The girl’s got a look.  Doesn’t matter when it’s not 100% perfect, she still lands firmly on IN.

  • Carrie L. Boram

Twee and strange. Did not like.

  • janiemary

OUT!! Regardless of what color that dress is supposed to be, I disliked it when I first saw it and hated it by the end of the night! Take the peplum into a gathered full skirt or remove it and go with a fitted sheath but not both. The diamond bow I can take or leave, but can’t stand her demure facial expression of a 12year-old girl. You were nominated for your portrayal of Marilyn Monroe for heaven’s sake!  Quit with the twee stuff!

  • Haley Buchanan

OUT.  I can’t even look below her neck.  The hair and the precious little smirk on her face are long overdue for an update of some sort.  Also, I did look below her neck, and that twee little bow broach on her hip makes me want to puke.  So over her look.

  • CatherineRhodes

  • I think she looks great!  She’s so beautiful with her pixie haircut and perfect skin.

  • Louise Bryan

No opinion, but I think this was Nina’s pick for best dressed last night.  Go figure….

  • ringthing

In. I hate the bow pin with the heat of a thousand suns, but the color is pretty and she looks good.

  • Lizzyisi

I think the brooch is a mistake, but the necklace is inspired. I like the dress–it is designed to within an inch of its life, but I think the choice of fabric, the color and how the trailing hem mirrors the peplum all works to make it a beautiful dress. IN and, so far from what I’ve seen, one of the better looks of the night.

  • PhoebePowers

OUT. I thought it was fussy and a bit childish. Nina couldn’t stop gushing over it. I found it actually sort of embarrassing it was so cutesy. This is what you want to wear when you win an Oscar for Best Actress? Whatever.

  • Love it. Even the brooch–it works on her, and it suits her style.

  • Twee.

  • Out. I am getting a chenille bathrobe feeling from it.

  • When I saw her on camera the color really was different than how it is showing up in pics. While I agree about the brooch (but it *is* twee queen Michelle Williams we’re talking about here) I think the dress is really nice. She’s thin enough that all the ruffley, peplumy, shirred, etc. looks good on her.
    Definitely IN.

  • AlexisPayne

Meh, not crazy about it. out.

  • Emmyllou

In. It’s her. This is her thing. (BTW, Nina gushed—did you see?)

  • kolokOlchik

Funny thing, Nina Garcia was RAVING about this dress on the CBS pre-Oscars show.  I also didn’t like it.

  • Out.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

I do love the side view of the dress, and she does look happy -so, yes, it’s a bit twee, but it’s working for her.

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

OUT.  I didn’t care for it, and “overworked” is exactly the right word.  Hair and makeup are perfect, though.

  • AllisonRae

IN!!! I think she usually tends to go for cutesy dresses, so I really loved this on her.

  • annieanne

Sans the peplum it would be a big in.
With the peplum its an OUT.

  • formerlyAnon

Meaning, yes, there’s too much going on and much of it is twee – but it’s Michelle Williams, she likes that.  It’s saved by the fact that she looks slender and graceful in it and it is in a nice strong color.

    So I say IN.

  • PhillipWilde

You’re right, it is twee as fuck, but it’s almost perfect for her. IN.

  • Nixonesque

    Yuck. All over the place.

  • I love the dress, but maybe without the brooch. IN.

  • OUT! I hated this.

  • ArchaicSmile

Funny. In the photos above the gown looks a little flat and lifeless, but when I saw it on TV I thought it looked absolutely lovely. Plus her make up & hair are perfect. By the way, I wish I had skin like that. Talk about winning the genetic lottery.

  • Jessica O’Connell

OUT on that brooch alone – I’m sorry, but no.

  • Candigirl1968

In. I think she can’t help but look precious. This isn’t like Zooey, who seems to pick things that are beyond twee.

    • megohd

It’s the hair. And I love the hair. It’s so refreshing not to see the same old hairstyles that you see on every other starlet/young actress/trying-to-look-young actress—long, flowy wave extensions, or long, pin straight extensions.

  • greyhoundgirl

I love it–would love it more if the skirt were smooth but still love it on her.  In

  • Vickiefantastico

I agree, TLo. And the bottom of the dress just looks shabby. OUT.

  • turtleemily

I like it better in profile than straight-on, but that brooch is unforgivable. Out.

  • I like it.

  • annamiklo

In.  I love it.  It looks more weird to me than precious, but weird meaning interesting.  To me it looks like musculature underneath the skin.  Disconcerting and unusual and very flattering on her.

  • ri_dic

I agree; it’s over designed. Take the peplum away, and it would be that much better. I don’t totally dislike it. There’s much about it that I like. That peplum, not so much. (I’ve never been a fan of them.) She looked pretty, though!

  •  I didn’t love it, and she could have done MUCH better.  But it’s too harsh to give it an “out” just because there are a few minor problems.  I give it a “MEH.”

  • JustJenn142

Take away the peplum and I think it would be awesome!

  • thebitterkitten

that random little silver bow thing at her waist bothers me and then it looks like she wrapped bathroom carpets around her to use as a skirt. In fact I rolled my eyes when I saw this come down the red carpet…sorry but OUT.

  • PhillyDeb

You can’t have it both ways.  Viola Davis’ dress was way over designed.  I love this.  Suits her and ver few others could wear it.  She has the perfect body for it. IN

  • Lisa

You know, here’s my view – it’s twee, yes, but this time around, it’s a twee dress that works.  I think the color helped take away some of the twee-ness of it, and she looked fabulous in the color.  I really loved it, I thought she was the best dressed of the night, and I normally can’t stand her.

  • megalomania79

    Out.  Too twee for words.

In.  I think she looks pretty lovely here.  But I hate the white panel in the back.  How does that qualify as a design element?  Cause if it isn’t a design element they need to stop doing this.

  • LittleKarnak

In, she’s true to her style even if I don’t always care for said style.

  • Reminds me of a vintage lampshade. Fine on a lamp, not so good as evening wear. IMO Michelle Williams has demonstrated significant taste issues.

  • Adriana_Paula

    Oh, it’s fine.

  • BrightsideSusan

The color was great but the dress looked limp and I didn’t like the back being different in color an fabric.  Out.

  • adnama79

Out.  It’s not even really that precious.  Just kind of weirdly choppy.

  • loverungay

The color is great- especially next to all that beige blah but it looks like an overfrosted cupcake.

  • up with pod people

THANK YOU! I was so annoyed that Nina Garcia (and my mom) loved this. It’s trying to do too many things at once. And the necklace was totally blah with it. How do you make diamonds BLAH?? Out, out with you!

This is Michelle’s take on this dress from “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” http://www.fanpop.com/spots/marilyn-monroe/images/14298319/title/gentlemen-prefer-blondes-photo

  • In! She looks great and comfortable and lovely.

  • marywv

    IN to the maximum.

  • CCDilg

I like it …that whole new peplum thing..everyone went yes ..then no…then yes.  It works..

  • Twee as fuck, for sure.

  • Grace Ritt

I’m sorry, but OUT. Too precious.

  • Northern_Light_27

OUT. Thought it was marvelous until I saw the pic in the comments of the dress from behind, and that awful beige corsetry. Thought it was over-designed but well-suited for her, but not with underwear sticking out the back!

Too many layers, but that is a gorgeous color on her. Hair and make-up are perfect, and nothing to complain about with the fit. IN.

  • Not everyone could pull it off, but she looks adorable.  IN.

  • mrspeel2

I agree with you boys and I had a really hard time understanding why, on ABC, Nina Garcia and Tim Gunn were praising it as THE Best Gown on the RC!

  • MissAnnieRN

OUT.  The peplum has weird proportions.  It didn’t work for me at all.

  • amywinns

    Ugh. Out.

  • OUT, no thanks Michelle Williams.

  • guest2visits

Hated this dress so-very-much. I’m not sure about the hair and make-up either.
Why does she usually look like a puppet sitting on someones knee?

  • Sophie Collier

No, the silhouette just looks blah.  The peplum skirt thing seems limp and sad. OUT.

  • OUT! twee as fuck IS her thing, and that’s why this is OUT, because she’s in the world’s biggest style rut. that bow pin just ruined it.  serious overkill

  • karena10

I was so glad to see that the bitter kittens voted this out.  I heard (or read on different sites) that this was the best dress of the night and couldn’t figure out what they were looking at.

  • mike__tv

Sorry, I normally out Michelle for tweeness…but, I think she’s selling it. IN
