Madonna in Jean Paul Gaultier Couture

Posted on February 03, 2012

We’re gonna do Madge a solid here.

Madonna attends the Bridgestone Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show Press Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana in Jean Paul Gaultier couture.

Because anyone that shows up for a Super Bowl press conference in Indianapolis wearing Gaultier couture just doesn’t deserve our bitchery.

Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2012 Couture Collection/Model: Rianne Ten Haken (ELITE)

Putting Madonna in Gaultier is always going to call to mind past looks and past glories because they both helped each other’s careers out tremendously and in many ways, each holds a lot of responsibility for the other’s success and/or persona. So yeah, this is “Express Yourself” redux, but we actually don’t mind. We rag on her a lot for not doing all that great a job of dealing with middle age, but that doesn’t mean she needs to ditch everything about herself that made her a star, either. We don’t want to see the cone bra in 2012, but this makes for a nice reminder of the Madge we fell in love with back in the day. Menswear + Panties. What else could we ask for from her?

Is it a great look? Mmmm. Maybe. The vest is too short for our liking and we think Madge should reconsider going without sleeves, but there’s an attitude to it we kind of admire.

      …I kind of love it.

      • Anonymous

me too! She looks better than she has in a long time

      • Anonymous

Same here. Digging the nod to the past.

      • Anonymous

         She looks really, really good.

      • Anonymous

Ditto. Suits her to a T. (Hard to resist following that w/a Lo)

    • Anonymous

I actually really love this outfit on her and I think she’s wearing the shit out of it.  But I wish the pants fit a bit better.

      • Anonymous

Pulling. It. Off. And I cannot think of any other celebrity who could get away with it.

    • Anonymous

She looks fabulous and much less plasticky than she has recently. If I had arms like that, I wouldn’t cover them up either.

      • http://twitter.com/bredalot Bridget Smith

Yeah, her arms have gone from terrifying to simply impressive. She totally deserves to be proud of them right now.

        • http://twitter.com/enuma enuma

Agreed.  In the past her arms have had that sinewy, popped vein look that bodybuilders get.  They’ve softened recently, so that she just looks strong instead of ‘roided up.  I’d want to show off those guns, too.

    • Anonymous

I love it. I am not afraid of middle-aged arms. I think it expresses who Madonna is without making her look like a joke. The past few years, she’s struggled to walk that fine line and has often failed.

      • Anonymous

I 100% agree. I think she looks great here.

      • http://twitter.com/democracydiva Democracy Diva

“I AM NOT AFRAID OF MIDDLE-AGED ARMS” should be on a t-shirt. phenomenal.

        • Anonymous

I’d buy it and wear it, even though – maybe especially because – I AM a little bit afraid of middle aged arms, at least, of mine!

          • Anonymous

True – there’s Madge’s arms in middle age, and then there is the rest of us.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Getting the “do you see me??? see, i’m still relevant!!!” vibe from this outfit.  Don’t hate it, don’t love it. But she also falls under the category of people I can’t stand for no good reason.

      • Anonymous

Me too.  And I am so over the gloves – I bet she’s pissed they can’t do cosmo surgery on hands!

    • Anonymous

she looks better than many of her recent appearances, but i see she is still sporting those ridiculous fingerless gloves, lets leave that particular fashion misstep to Herr Lagerfeld shall we?

      • Anonymous

Seriously. Enough with the gloves already.

        • Anonymous

I agree with you, but at least in this outfit they sort of makes sense….. Definitely not with the gowns, as she did recently….

        • Anonymous

Agree about the gloves, but I’m guessing her hands are showing their age…..it’s the one place you cannot hide your age.

      • Anonymous

But unlike the horrible glove + red carpet gown looks she has been
sporting, the gloves here kind of work with the outfit so I don’t mind
        them.

        • Anonymous

it’s less offensive to be sure, but i am beginning to wonder if they are permanently affixed?….

        • Anonymous

I agree, the gloves actually work here, so I won’t hold her past mistakes against them.

        • Anonymous

Yeah, I’m thinking the same thing. This is the one time the gloves work.

      • Anonymous

Once Lindsay Lohan makes them a fashion stable you know it’s time to run, run away from that one! Let that be a warning to La ‘Donna.

    • Anonymous

I’m really digging this on her. She looks hip without trying too hard. Plus, her face looks like its mellowed out quite a bit and she looks more like herself. Gets me excited for her halftime show!!! I can’t help it, I fell in love with her back in 1983 when her Lucky Star video came out. I still know all the dance moves.

      • http://twitter.com/arodenha Alli

This is the….least processed her face has looked in a LONG time.

    • MilaXX

She looks ready to start popping & lockin’ with Rerun. Maybe this was her tribute to the late Don Cornelius.

      • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

Aww, if I was sure she would nod to him in the halftime show, I might actually watch it.

        • MilaXX

The closest we’ll get to that is her new song with Nicki Minaj & M.I.A. She’s reportedly doing 3 old and 1 new song.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Which means Nicki and MIA will hopefully make a “surprise” appearance.  Thanks for that, now I have an reason to watch.

    • Anonymous

It’s not a great outfit, but she is werqing it, and I can’t think of any other pop star who could. Snaps etc.

    • Anonymous

I think she looks great. Love, love, love the pants, chain and all. Saw her doing the salsa moves on tv and it’s like the outfit was designed to make her waist and hips look awesome.

      • http://twitter.com/bredalot Bridget Smith

She makes me want to go out and find pants like that IMMEDIATELY.

        • Anonymous

agreed, I thought something like that wouldn’t work on a shorter person, but she really pulls them off.

          • Anonymous

It will work if you are very THIN shorter person, and not too genetically hourglass.

    • http://twitter.com/arodenha Alli

She looks fabulous but I would say that even if she was wearing cone bra because I’m scared of her putting me in a headlock and crushing my skull like a grape with those arms.

    • Anonymous

I love it and I love her arms! I do wish the pants were a little less MC hammer on her but she looks great!

    • Anonymous

Something tells me that I’m not going to be the only middle age reader who sat back in shock reading that Madonna shouldn’t go sleeveless. I’m no big fan of her, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with her arms. For middle age women that’s a shot below the belt.

      • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

Color us absolutely not shocked at all that once again someone read a specific critique of a specific person and spun that out as a critique of every one in her age group. Never fails.

        • Anonymous

Can you explain what you did mean, because I also read it as a critique of middle aged women going sleeveless?

          • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

Can you explain how you got “middle-aged women” out of it, since those words never appeared in the sentence?

We meant exactly what we wrote: “Madge should reconsider going without sleeves.” There is nothing in there about her age or the ages of any other women. There was no directive about how women should dress. There was a criticism of how Madge herself dresses and what works best for her, no different from every other red carpet-style post we write.

Have you ever once heard us say that Michelle Obama should cover her arms up due to her age?

            • Anonymous

Maybe they were thinking that this “We rag on her a lot for not doing all that great a job of dealing with middle age, but that doesn’t mean she needs to ditch everything about herself that made her a star, either” was extended to the arms? That said, I didn’t interpret your comment on her arms to be because she’s middle-aged.

            • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

Maybe they did, but that would demonstrate rather poor reading comprehension. And if we sound bitchy, we mean to. There’s nothing more frustrating than being reprimanded not for what you said, but for what someone thinks you said.

            • Anonymous

Oh darlings, to paraphrase Barney Frank, trying to argue with the comment trolls is like trying to have an argument with a couch. You just keep up your wonderful, bitchy commentary. This middle aged broad loves you for it!

            • Anonymous

Same here. People need to chill out and stop taking things out of context.
And I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m 41 and don’t go sleeveless. Ever.

            • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=677547537 John Hodgins

Wow, I hardly ever comment so don’t accuse me of being a troll (actually I don’t really care if you do).  But was being that mean really necessary.  Jeesh, people can’t even disagree with T&L?  The inference was there with the middle-age talk.  It wasn’t that much of a stretch.  So much for this loyal reader.  :-|

            • Anonymous

I never accused you of being a troll.

            • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=677547537 John Hodgins

Lulu:  It wasn’t aimed at you.  I should have replied up above you.  No offense meant.

            • Anonymous

I think she looks fabulous sleeveless (or it doesn’t really matter one way or the other…) — I would prefer she reconsider going without plastic surgery.

            • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

How dare you say that all blonde Italian women over 30 should never have plastic surgery.

            • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=677547537 John Hodgins

Can’t let it go, can you!

            • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

How dare you imply that all gay middle-aged bloggers can’t let something go.

            • Anonymous

O.k., this one made me laugh.

            • Anonymous

               Fabulous!

            • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=677547537 John Hodgins

              :-)

            • Anonymous

I took it to mean that her arms are so sinewy and veiny that sleeveless is not her friend. Sort of the opposite of arm cleavage but about the same effect.

            • Anonymous

She should certainly reconsider going sleeveless in this outfit because her bra peeks out, and for me visible foundation garments are always a no-no.

And I think you have every right to be annoyed.

            • Anonymous

Now, that occurred to me, too. A white bra under a black top?
              Big no no.

            • Anonymous

Since I’ve been reading this blog long enough to know you never criticize people for what they look like (tall, short, old, young, fat, thin, etc.), I knew you weren’t implying she’s too old to go sleeveless. At the same time, whatever did elicit the comment about rethinking sleeveless wasn’t apparent to me, so I was a bit curious. I’ve long thought she looks a little too-toned in the arms (as in, there’s not difference b/w seeing her arms and seeing a sign saying, “I’ve given a disproportionate amount of my life to lifting weights”). But I’m still not clear about rethinking sleeveless.

            • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

If we had said of someone in a dress (as we have said many times), “She needs to rethink that hem length,” there wouldn’t be any question of what we meant. When we say “She needs to rethink sleeveless” it means we don’t think she looks her best when she wears something sleeveless. That’s it.

      • Anonymous

No kidding! I’m 47 and if my arms looked like THAT, well, just try putting sleeves on me.

    • Anonymous

Each piece is ok, but all together she’s looking pretty good.

      Those gloves still look ridiculous.

    • Judy_J

She looks sexy and confident.  I like it.

      • Anonymous

She really does and it has been a while since I have seen her look so good.

    • Anonymous

her arms look better than mine and she’s almost 10 years older than me.  You go without sleeves proudly, Madge!

    • Allyson Wells

She looks great! And I can’t get over the fact that she and a million other celebrities are in the same city as me right now! Go Indy!!!!

    • Anonymous

      She looks great!

    • Stefanos Mantyla

Enh… I think these are clown clothes.

    • http://twitter.com/aStudiobytheSea a Studio by the Sea

I’m marveling at the proportions of the model. A giantess!   As for Madonna, you look good, but at 50+ you really are desperately seeking Susan.

    • http://theargiehome.blogspot.com/ Gus Casals

I think it’s a winner cause it’s Gaultier couture, and yet it doesn’t look out of place at a Superbowl event

    • Anonymous

I am not a fan of the Queen of Narcissists, but I have to say that I think she looks great in this getup.  Love the pegging on the pants, love the severe pinstripes with the glittery underwear.  And she looks fresh and ready to rock.  Props to you, Madge.

      • Anonymous

It’s pretty masterful, when you look at it. It OUGHT to be a disaster, but because of how fanatically she maintains her body and the proportions of the clothes, it looks fantastic.

    • http://opinionandamovie.blogspot.com/ Deitra S.

I kind of love it, too.  I like the volume of the pants, but I wish the length was better.  Then again, this is Madonna & she’s like 4-foot-nothing.  And besides, the first time I saw “Express Yourself” was a defining moment of my childhood.

      • MilaXX

Madonna is short, but not Snooki short. She’s probably in the area of 5’3″ – 5’5″

    • Anonymous

It works. I like the zoot-suit vibe.

    • Anonymous

It seems well chosen for a press conference too, because it had enough visual interest from the waist up to be something a little bit different.  Having seen clips of the conference only, I had no idea what the bottom looked like until just now, but the top was enough to make it look cool on tv.

That said, ENOUGH WITH THE GLOVES.

    • Anonymous

I think it’s a great look for her and the only thing that makes me cry is what I can see of her footwear. WTF is on her feet?

      • Anonymous

Looks like hippie earth lady gardening clogs from over here.

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

Gautier always treats her right! Weird that it’s from that Amy Winehouse-inspired collection, but the look here is all Madonna.

      • J Dreesen

My thoughts exactly.  i never would have thought that about the outfit just from seeing it on the original runway post from the other day, but it really wouldn’t look *right* on anyone else now that i’ve seen it on Madonna!

    • Anonymous

Considering what she has been choosing lately, I like it.

But the gloves are like – needle scratch – ACK!

    • Anonymous

And whatever she’s injecting in her cheekbones – make her stop! She’s getting more and more freaky looking as she gets older. I do like the outfit, though you are right. Her arms look positively rangy these days.

    • Anonymous

why does she still flaunt wearing a cross when she is into Kabbalah? I don’t see the Kabbalah bead on her wrist. Hate the gloves

    • Rebecca Johnson

It’s interesting & sad that she is both wearing gloves and hiding her hands in her pockets in every picture. It’s her body & she has the right to do with it as she pleases, but I wish she’d be a little more willing to look her age. There’s nothing wrong with being kickass at 50 and looking like you are 50!

      • http://twitter.com/bredalot Bridget Smith

I’m pretty sure the hands-in-the-pockets thing is at least partly about the attitude it projects. She’s not burying them, she’s posing with them there.

    • Anonymous

I saw the Gaultier show at the Musee des Beaux-Arts in Montreal, and they were displaying the famous gold bustier, which nearly made me hyperventilate. It was such at thrilling show overall.

Anyway, I was sooo surprised at how tiny the bustier was! She is just a really tiny person, but you really can’t tell from her photos – her presence is larger than life.

I know people can’t stand her, and yes, she’s become slightly ridiculous in recent years, but I will never not love her.  And she looks fantastic here.

    • Anonymous

      love

    • Anonymous

I can’t say I *like* the outfit, but it is quintessentially Madonna and I give her props for that.  What she’s done to her face is just tragic, though.  It breaks my heart.

I am told that she looked fabulous in person. Damn my friends who live downtown Indianapolis & can only send me pictures from their phones!!

      Woohoo! Indianapolis!

    • Ozski

I think Parachute pants makes everyone look like a dumbass but she definitely has the torso for that bustier and her face is settling nicely. She looks like the child of SJP and Jerry Hall now.

      Perfect Madonna outfit.

Except for the appearance of what seems like bra straps (but may not be), and the gloves, I love this!

oh god, LOVE. I would cut a bitch for that outfit, I’m not even kidding. Love, love, love.

The chicka wearing it is okay in it.

The pants are a skosh too “Hammer Time”. But otherwise, I like it.

If I had arms like hers, I’d never. Ever. wear sleeves.  And I’m all for the veins and tendons that she’s earned – she works hard and looks amazing.  Especially now that her (what does Kathy Griffin call it … dental work?) has softened.

      Girl looks great.

It’s very “her”, and not quite so in-your-face, trying-too-hard.  She looks good here, and her arms are favorite appendages, clearly.  I don’t think she’ll be covering them anytime soon as long as she’s pumping that iron!!

    • Terence Ng

      Looking good.

    • Anonymous

I think she looks all kinds of awesome in this and I wish she would dress like this more often.
It’s age appropriate but still edgy and cool. Yes, she’s at the age where sleeves are her best friend, but I’m willing to forgive.
      Well done, Madge.

“Madge should reconsider going without sleeves.”  ??

    • Anonymous

I’d have preferred an electric chair, or possibly a guillotine, at the neck. Never was a fan of big, bejeweled, gaudy crucifixes.
      But she looks great.

    • Anonymous

Madge looks fantastic.  Looking forward to the half time show.  I read/saw that the stage has “vogue” written on it, so assuming Vogue will be one of the numbers.  Vogue redux.

    • Anonymous

I totally DISAGREE with “Madge should reconsider going without sleeves”.  Her arms look great, especially in these photos.  I am SO OVER the women need to cover their arms after 40 rule…it’s ridiculous.  Arms are simply arms…and hers look great.

      • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

You know what we’re over? People claiming we cited a rule when no such thing happened.

    • Cathy S

She looks great. The fingerless gloves even work with this.

    • http://www.facebook.com/samuel.j.donovan Samuel Joesph Donovan

Nah, totally loving the sleevelessness.  Just wish she didn’t feel the need to be so toned.

    • Anonymous

It’s a pretty great look, especially for the Super Bowl press conference. Kicks it up a notch.

I’m disappointed in the going sleeveless commentary. Good on her. Damn it, a woman ought to be able to wear sleeves or not sleeves at any age.

Here I am, overtoned or floppy, DEAL WITH IT, I have!!

    • Anonymous

I think she looks awesome. If I could pull this thing off (hint: I can’t), I would be walking around in it right now. (I mean, ignoring the whole issue of money.)

    • oohsparkley!

Her arms look great.  She’s a Yogi and it shows.  I do sometime wish she’d do something different with her hair, including the color.

I’ve been saying that for years. This shade ages her.

        OW, looks great

I love it!  Express Yourself Madge was my favorite of her incarnations (I still think that hairdo from the video is one of my favorites ever on anyone…that or Molly walking up to the prom in Pretty in Pink is my fantasy hair LMAO), and this is really a cool look.  Sexy and tough at the same time.

Agreed. I can imagine her with a shorter, cutting edge haircut

I wonder if she has had work done on her hands (is that even possible?) and the gloves are to cover them up while they heal.  Because they do not help.  It makes her hands stand out more and everyone comments on what they are hiding.

Like the outfit, but I’m an old broad too :-)

I think you can have plumping stuff injected into your hands [ETA: though it's not a part of MY body I'd be taking any risks, however minimal, with], but I’m not aware of any actual surgery. (but then, it’s not a topic on which I am cutting edge).

Out. I don’t get Madonna and never have.

    • Sara__B

I’m surprised to like this outfit quite a bit. I just wish the pants were shorter and hope she took her hands out of her pockets now and then.

    • Jessica Goldstein

I’ve never been a fan (no dislike, just never a fan), but I think she looks awesome here. Given her current age and her image over the years, I think this look should be her regular go-to. As for sleeves, the day may come when she needs to embrace them, but I don’t think today is that today.

    • Rei Carter

I love how she looks here. Bare arms and all.

    • http://twitter.com/lauralexis Laura

It’s very her, but I hate that long chain with a passion.

    • Anonymous

I need her to stop with the gloves. But otherwise I think this is a good look for her. It’s evocative of previous Madonna iterations but it also feels updated and more importantly, age-appropriate. She looks her age, and she looks great.

    • Anonymous

I kind of love it.  I think she looks really comfortable with how she looks in this.  I mean she is still doing that random glove thing but they actually work with this outfit.  I know this was given to her but I could actually imagine her choosing this from her closet or at least picking it out herself without a stylist’s help.  I know that didn’t happen but it looks like it COULD HAVE.

    • Anonymous

Not a Madonna wannabe or even a fan, but I have to admit she looks great here. Like the subtle changes in the outfit too.

    • Anonymous

I’m 15-ish years younger than her and if my arms looked like that I would never wear sleeves again!

    • http://twitter.com/democracydiva Democracy Diva

Her arms don’t look nearly as scary as they used to! But do leather cut-off gloves really go with EVERYTHING, Madonna? I think not.

      • Anonymous

Goes with this, IMO. Of course, that could be just that they go so much BETTER than with her red-carpet looks, I’m overwhelmed with relative enthusiasm.

    • Anonymous

LOVE. If I had her arms at her age, I’d ride the Sleeveless wagon ’til the wheels broke off.

    • Anonymous

Not fond of her, but she does look good here!

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Ok, but those STUPID. FUCKING. GLOVES.  Sorry, I’ve needed to get that out of my system for quite some time now.

    • Anonymous

No ambiguity here. Honestly, it’s darn close to a WERQ for me.  For her, this is knocking it out of the park, IMO.  THIS is the kind of stylistic use she should make of her fanatically toned body, instead of putting it into teeny young persons’ dresses.

Her arms are not her best feature by our standards of feminine beauty, too sinewy, but in this jaunty & non-girly attire I think they’re perfectly appropriate and look good (good, as in strong and not-quite scary thin.)

      • Lisa

Oh, yeah, it’s a total WERQ for me!

    • Anonymous

how did she get rid of the veins in her arms? i recall them being super-veiny before. she looks great here.

      • Anonymous

I think she either let herself gain a tiny amount of body fat and/or backed off the weight lifting.

    • Anonymous

we think Madge should reconsider going without sleeves

She’s always left me pretty cold but any woman Madge’s age who can rock guns like that damn well deserves to spotlight them at any opportunity.

    • Anonymous

She looks fabulous, and the “pillowface” has gone away.

    • Anonymous

I like this. I wonder what she thinks we think the gloves are for. If you’re concealing something unattractive with something even more attractive then you should probably rethink your choice.

    • Anonymous

I am in LOVE with this look.  She looks spectacular.
(also, why reconsider sleeves?  her arms look incredible).

    • vmcdanie

I wish she’d wear something other than a cross (just cause I’m SICK of seeing them on her) but I do like this look quite a bit. Double points because honestly, you don’t get to say that often with Madonna.

    • Allison Woods

      Um, no. Just wrong.

    • Anonymous

      her waist is incredible!!

    • Call me Bee

She looks great, and probably the people in Indiana are scratching their heads over this OTT outfit.  And what could be better?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2P2ANLRZ6YAVGONA36I2AQJYGI VicD

NOT!  Glad she’s wearing a bra, but too bad we have to see the white straps peeking.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WOM6YR4RJ53AF77MUUZ62J33WY Anonymous

I definetly love it. Those gloves work with this one too!

      • Lisa

I know!  She looks amazing, it’s a great outfit, and yeah, the gloves really do work for this one!  LOVE HER!

    • Anonymous

Love the outfit from the hips and up.  Below the hips, no.

    • Anonymous

I like it.  Not a fan of the vest or the Dansko shoes though.

    • Amy Ellinger

Bad-ass FlyGirl.  Great look from her- it doesn’t try too hard.

    • Anonymous

      LOVE it.

    • http://tigergray.blogspot.com/ Tiger Gray

I hate to say it but I think she looks fantastic.

    • Anonymous

I was in the Media Room today hoping to get a glimpse of Madonna so I could bitchely judge her clothes in person. She wasn’t doing interviews today, but I did see Vanilla Ice and Adam Sandler, who I am pretty sure just rolled out of bed to do his NFL Network interview.

    • Anonymous

I think she looks fantastic.  And I *covet* those pants.

    • Anonymous

I too am confused as to why she should reconsider going without sleeves. WHY?! Her arms are gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous — for a 20 year old let alone a 53 year old!! She looks beautiful and fresh and effortlessly beautiful here. I wonder if she’s wearing the gloves in every public appearance because she had sclerotherapy (injections to collapse the visible veins), a procedure that leaves bruises and temporary hyperpigmentation. She is so often criticized for her veiny hands, I wonder if it got to her. Honestly, let the woman age in peace! She looks far better than almost any woman 1/3 her age as it is.

    • Anonymous

      thatta girl!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_IHWCJIMARF4OOW6PQZQS3RFOOA JillK

What the hell is wrong with her arms? You guys have grown too accustomed to looking at magazine Photoshopped arms on women where they look like plastic Barbie doll arms without any dimension whatsoever. Madge’s arms look fine. They look like ARMS!

    • Anonymous

Daaannng…. I am in complete awe of her teeny tiny waist!

    • Anonymous

I’d rather her show off her triceps and deltoids than her vein-y middle aged hands.

    • Anonymous

Really fun outfit for her. Yay, Madge!

    • http://twitter.com/RamenRanch Lebogang Mogashoa

She looks like she’s just stepped off the “Don’t Tell Me To Stop” video.

    • Anonymous

      I think she looks great!

    • Anonymous

      Exquisite.

    • Anonymous

Nice rags. Have you seen the new video…tired of sheing her romping around with twenty somethings. She is slowly morphing into a joke.

      • Anonymous

        The video-and song-made me cringe.

She’s morphing into something more than a joke.  She’s turning into a caricature of herself.

        • Anonymous

Disagree. She does what she can to stay relevant. Nothing wrong with collaboration. Would you say that about Tony Bennet, who has made a fabulous career of collaboration? I’m not even a fan of her music, but as a woman of her age, that body looks pretty damn good. She’s clearly done things to her face, but I don’t think she looks out of her element “romping around with twenty somethings.” She looks better than the “twenty somethings” in this video.

          • Anonymous

Well…the difference between Tony Bennet and Madonna (besides that comparison being apples and oranges) is the Tony Bennet doesn’ try to compete with his collaborators and nor does he need too.

Madge, on the other hand, collaborates with pop stars and producers of the moment to keep herself relevant.  I don’t fault her for that although she can, and should, rest on her laurels. However at her age, and her standing as a pop icon, it reads as desperate and is wholly unnecessary.

So when I see her cavorting with the likes of Nicki Minaj and MIA dressed as a cheerleader and singing a pop song more suited for someone half her age it makes me cringe.  I’m waiting for next single to be “I’ve Written a Letter to Daddy.”

            Just my two cents.

    • Anonymous

she looks cute here, plenty of attitude.  but did she do something to her face?

    • http://tinyglimpses.blogspot.com Meg P. W.

If I have arms like that at her age, I won’t be wearing sleeves either.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

I think she looks great.  And I’m not even a particularly big fan.

    • http://twitter.com/beagles Anne Rinaldi

This is her look. Thought she looked awful at the Golden Globes (was it the Golden Globes…?), but I like this.

    • Anonymous

I don’t understand why everyone rags on her arms. They look fine to me for a 53 year old. Overall she does look good.

Show of hands for all the gays out there who are going to watch the Super Bowl solely for her performance. * sheepishly raising my hand*

What bugs me are the porportions of the outfit – the too small vest; the unflattering elongated torso; and the weird lowrider baggy pant. If she kept the basque waistline of the corset as it appears on the model it would break up the porportions a bit. The last photo is the worst contender.

It is, however, a fun throw back to the Madonna of yore when her head wasn’t as far up her ass as it is now. I miss that Madonna.

    • Anonymous

I just can’t with her. Her face, her denial about her age – and not that like effortless fun denial ala Ellen Barkin – some serious Demi ‘I drink the blood of innocents’ denial, and just her smug insufferable annoying existence. That being said LOVE the outfit, love the fashion balls, and her face is sorting itself out and eking away from the scary category. Oh and it fits her well and doesn’t look silly. Good show, Madonna!

    • http://twitter.com/ennisamy Amy Ennis

I love this look. I would have rather different shoes, though.

    • Anonymous

I like it.  For a woman who is as petite as she (like what?  5’2″), she wears designer clothes extremely well.  And her face looks surprisingly normal-ish.  Good for her.

    • Anonymous

      Love it!!

    • Amy Wilson Faville

That outfit is great on her, but I think it’s time for her to get a new hairstyle. Something sleeker.

    • Anonymous

She looks awesome here.  Glad her face has settled down some.  Both her face and her arms look more natural now.  Only thing I didnt like were her shoes.  Some boots wouldve looked better than those clogs she’s wearing.  You gotta give her props though for staying relevant all these years.  Now if she could just lose that crappy British accent….

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Hank-DeCat/100001190387982 Hank DeCat

I think she looks good, but why does it matter that she wore it in Indianapolis? Despite whatever accent she’s doing these days, she *is* from Detroit.

    • Anonymous

I think she looks fine. yadda yadda.  I really didn’t notice the arms, don’t mind the dance shoes.  I remember Madonna from way back when.  Honestly, she has had so much stuff done to her face, I think if her pictures weren’t labeled “Madonna” and she wasn’t wearing the Madonnna costume elements I might not know who she was looking at her.   I was at work during the Super Bowl and watching her act with a patient.  One of my youngish coworkers came in and commented “I wonder how mean she was to those people” (referencing the people dancing with her). “I heard she was a total bitch to work with: I believe it.”  I thought that was kind of funny and almost harmless in regard to some of the smack that is tossed about with her penchant to use up and throw away twenty year olds with short shrift.
