Kristin Chenoweth in Hervé Léger

Posted on February 29, 2012

Kristin, flogging the hell out of that already heavily flogged GCB show, demonstrates the virtue of thrift to the masses.

Kristin Chenoweth makes an appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman” in an Hervé Léger dress accessorized with Ray-Ban caravan sunglasses and Yves Saint Laurent ‘Tribtoo’ platform slingbacks.

Hervé Léger Pre-Fall 2012 Collection

See, when we first saw these pics, we said, “She really seems to have found her designer in Hervé , because — wait a MINUTE!” A lighbulb of memory went off over our heads. We looked at each other in excitement, but could it be? We had to be sure. “To the T Lo Cave!”

No, we’re not doing a “sliding down poles” joke. And neither are you.

Anyway, our point is, we realized that she hadn’t just found the right designer for herself, she found the right dress. And refreshingly, she seems to have no problem wearing it twice in the same month, knowing she’d be photographed. Good for her. It definitely suits her. We wouldn’t normally love those platforms but at least they’re not silly putty-colored and besides, she’s so tiny, if she wants to strap on the big girl shoes, she should go right ahead.

That’s a mighty big cross she’s wearing. Definitely flogging the hell out of that show. We can’t say we’re inclined to check it out. Doesn’t it just look like Desperate Housewives, Texas Edition?

As someone who’s actually an inch shorter than Kristin, I say when you find a dress that works with a really tiny frame you don’t just chuck it after one go.  She looks great.  I want our dogs to have a playdate.

    • I  think that’s the same thing for all sized girls. I haven’t recently but I’m not averse to buying great fitting items in multiple colors.

      • sarahofalessergod

That’s totally true, but finding something when you’re 4’10″/4’11” that doesn’t look like it came from Gap Kids is a rare shopping experience indeed.  When you’re Hobbit-sized, you look at 90% of the trends in fashion and just laugh because it will almost never work on you.  So yeah, Kristin looks sharp as hell in this and I commend her giving the dress a good repeat run.

        • miatamam

sarahofalessergod, I’m totally with you.  For example, if a dress w pockets is cut to the right proportions you can bet the pockets are the size of quilts.

  • Leslie Streeter

She looks fabulous. And the cross fits the look, as does the purse dog.

    • Terence Ng

And her own firmly held Christian faith.

I love that she’s so deeply Christian, but doesn’t use it to behave like a judgmental butthole. Plus, girl can SANG. Love her.

      • Leslie Streeter

Absolutely. As someone of similar faith, I aspire to be her. And I want that dress. And dog.

        • Terence Ng

Let me pull an Ursula moment and say that what I want from her is…her VOICE.

  • sagecreek

She looks great, despite the Palinesque cross.

    •   Isn’t she a devout Christan?  I doubt this is the first time she put one on.

    • homespunner

This Jewish fan finds that cross rather pretty. It’s about as delicate a (large-ish) cross I’ve seen.

  • She looks awesome – I love this dress and fully support her wearing it as often as she likes. Love the badass sunglasses, too! And these shoes are a better choice than last time.

  • Not a super fan of her, but I do love the look a lot.  She looks great, and it doesn’t make her look wee, which is a sometime problem for her. Unless the proportions are just right for someone of small frame it only makes them look smaller yet.  And her hair looks great.

    • I agree – she sometimes has a tendency to go REALLY big with the hair which, on somebody as tiny as she is, makes her look like an adorable lollipop.

      •  When you look at images of classic film actresses, And actors, for that matter, most of whom were tiny people, its really hard to gauge their height, because every stitch they had on was carefully made to their proportions, and frame.  Even collar depths, pleating, embellishments and pocket sizes were considered to support the illusion.

        • Jecca2244

That is such an interesting point.

        • dress_up_doll

Excellent point! I’ve had many a celebrity fantasy bubble burst after seeing someone in real life and realizing that they’re miniscule in reality.

          •  When the film “Milk” was shooting here in the Castro district of San Francisco, I had many an opportunity to see Sean Penn up close, who is my height of 5’5″, and he was playing a man who was 6 feet tall.  In the movie, the illusion is complete.

          • He is?? Illusion indeed. He’s never read as anything BUT tall. I do love my Sean Penn.

        • Little_Olive

True, and lovely. But I think we need to factor in that people used to be a lot smaller. Not only heightwise, but with smaller frames also; so the comparison between the viewer and the person on the screen was less patent, plus height was not necessarily between the top desired features.
As there was far less chance of knowing how people on the screen were in real life, their clothes made sense on their own -being well tailored-.

        • MrsJoe

Yeah…for reference, see Robert Downey, Jr. and Ben Stiller in any of their films and then check out the two of them standing next to actresses decked out in beautiful gowns and super-high heals at the Oscars this past weekend.  Ben Stiller looked waaaaay shorter then normal standing next to Emma Stone whose dress made her look even taller I think.  Gwyneth never looks super tall in her films, yet she dwarfed Robert…

    • kimmeister

I was impressed with her hair too, especially in the 2nd shot of her.  Such a glorious blowout.

  • I have to admit I’m normally not a fan of those Herve Leger dresses but this really works for her.

  • What’s the show?
Love the dress. Hate the doggie Yankees uniform (not a Yankees fan).

    • RebeccaKW

GCB is based on a book, or series of books.  Good Christian Bitches.  Breast implants on high school girls seem to be a big focus (of the show. No idea if it is in the books).

    • “GCB” is short for “Good Christian Bitches,” so that should give you a pretty good idea.

It makes me sad, though, because on my college campus, “GCB” stood for “Grad Center Bar,” the bar located in the basement of one of the dorms, and the BEST BAR EVER. Most drinks were about $3, and you’d run into everyone you knew. So I keep seeing all these posters for “GCB” and wishing it were MY GCB.

      •  The “official” title of the show is Good Christian Belles.  Apparently, some people objected to the original title.  Can’t imagine that.  😉

    • BrooklynBomber

Oh, geez, I didn’t even catch that the dog was wearing a Yankees uniform. KC has just shifted from my irrational dislike list to the top of my rational dislike list.

      • Adriana_Paula

        Ah, a fellow Mets fan…

        • BrooklynBomber

          You bet.

          • another_laura

            My condolences.

  • SewingSiren

What a friend I have in Léger,
All my curves and flaws to bear.
What a privilege ’tis to wear  him,
For him I wear no underwear!

  • Sara Leigh Merrey

Love the dress! Good thing to toss the belt.

    • YoungSally

Agreed — she is both busty and short waisted…this dress does a nice job of stretching out her torso.

  • serenitynow02

I unfortunately saw some commercials for this show and it looks absolutely putrid.

    But I like the dress.

  • bluefish

    Beautiful dress.

  • Jessica O’Connell

The dress looks great and I thinks he looks better here than she did in the same dress at Fashion Week. Also, her dog is a Yankees fan, and that by itself makes this awesome.

  • Little_Olive

I miss the belt, as the model is wearing -maybe thinner, as CC is indeed tiny. It gives the dress more structure.

    Overall she looks good.

I admit she needs lifting but I wish those platforms went away.

  • Having grown up going to a Baptist church in the south(ish), GCB looks hilarious to me and I will at least check it out based on KC alone.  I’ve know a few “Christian” people in my time who weren’t very Christian.

KC looks fab and she wore the glasses on the Letterman show.  Dave asked about them and apparently she had an allergic reaction to eyelash extensions.

    • kimmeister

Well that’s a new entry in the “suffering for fashion” column!

    • Little_Olive

Why doesn’t that happen to the Kardashians? Their eyelashes scare me.

“Doesn’t it just look like Desperate Housewives, Texas Edition?”

Worse, much worse. The fact that it’s not purported to be ‘real’ will allow much more wretched excess & poor behavior.

If I hear that it’s bad enough to be actually funny, I’ll start watching. I know plenty of people who are going to try it out.

  • CQAussie

Love the dress, the sunnies and even the shoes.  But Good Christian Bitches?  Oh please, I can’t even.  And I AM a good Christian….for the most part…..when I’m not being a bitch!  Pass.

  • BrooklynBomber

She does look great in that dress.

Doesn’t it just look like Desperate Housewives, Texas Edition?

I think that’s the whole point. I even saw an ad for it woven in with DH.  Why be original when regurgitation is an option?

    • Celandine1

This just makes me miss Pushing Daisies so much more *sigh*. Love the dress and love that she has worn it publicly more than once.

  • amywinns

I really admire the perfectly balanced proportions, top to toe. I’m coming to appreciate that as a cardinal fashion virtue.

  • It is a great dress on her but I am over platforms on everybody. Everybody. I wonder if is taken? hmmmm…

    • colleenjanel

I bet if you were 4’11”, you wouldn’t feel that way. 😉

  • miagain

How do you get into these dresses?

  • Pants_are_a_must

She’s so tiny, Herve Leger dresses don’t look like short, tacky bimbo dresses on her. But damn if she’s not a dead ringer for a mini Paris Hilton in here.

    • agreed. often on tall, busty girls herve leger dresses can look a wee bit slooty–but on her, to me, it looks flattering, well-fitted and chic.

  • sid123

Saw her on Letterman, she does a lot of pouting and posing, I was getting a creepy Courtney Stodden vibe.

Ohh sorry, yes the dress looks very nice.

  • butterflysunita

The dress is lovely on her.  Why change your clothes every 5 minutes when you find a dress that makes you look like that?

  • PeaceBang

The huge cross isn’t about her show, actually, because KC has always been out and proud of being a Christian girl. The show looks like a hoot — a bunch of my clergy pals and I are already planning “GCB” parties.

  • I love this. It’s like Elle Woods business executive realness.

  • Stubenville

    Texas? Needs bigger hair.

  • BeeBeauNYC

    That is so her dress.

  • She actually looks like she’s not the size of a Smurf, which is definitely an improvement! Keep it up girlfriend!

  • I love her and she looks good, but is her face thinner or something?  She looks a little different to me.

  • irielle

She’s an OK girl, and OK is awfully close to Texas. Love her shoes, love that she’s wearing the dress again, and love her.

  • Cathy S

She looks great in that dress. Maybe she should wear it once a month.

  • KaileeM

Love her, and love her in this dress. She looks fab! Although, I wish she was flogging something besides GCB. That show does not appeal to me whatsoever. Shame too, I loved her in Pushing Daisies and her guest spots on Glee!

  • EEKstl

  • sockandaphone

once i found out what GCB stands for, i will most definitely not watch it. also this is a cute dress.

  • TheOriginalLulu

She looks great in that dress. Bravo for wearing horizontal stripes and still looking slim.
Is that sweet lil doggie wearing a Yankees jersey?? I could just die.

  • TheOriginalLulu

She looks great in that dress. Bravo for wearing horizontal stripes and still looking slim.
Is that sweet lil doggie wearing a Yankees jersey?? I could just die.

  • Anathema_Device

Cute, and way to wear the same dress to two different events!

  • her interview was so bizarre…

  • Sara__B

It’s refreshing to have a celebrity wear the same dress to more than one public appearance, and it’s nice to see her without her hair pulled back so hard it must hurt. That said, she’s still near the top of my irrational celebrity dislike list.

  • SapphoPoet

I really don’t like it when people dress their dogs. It just looks silly.

  • Judy_J

I have absolutely no interest in watching GCB.  I live in Texas, and unfortunately know too many who fit that stereotype.  My husband has an irrational hatred of King of The Hill for the same reason.  If you know these people, you want to get away from them; you don’t want them invading your living room.

  • So so darn cute.  She is killing that dress, although I have no idea how she can breathe!  I’m looking forward to GCB this weekend.  S

    •  I did a double-take when I saw your name.  I have a friend named Clyda.  You don’t see many feminine versions of the name Clyde very often.

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

I love that dress, and love that she wore it twice.  The show?  I have absolutely NO plans on watching it.

  • If I looked like that in any dress, I’d wear it ten times in the same month.  Loved her on Glee and as Mr. Noodle’s Sister, Ms. Noodle; don’t plan to watch the thing she’s in now.

  • MilaXX

Still a cute dress, I wish she had worn the belt. No plans to watch that show. It ain’t Pushing Daisies.

  • Allison Woods

Love the dress, love it on her, but really think it looks better belted, as styled on the model.

  • Mariah J

Between the dog and the cross it definitely looks like she’s playing the character. LOVE the dress. As a petite girl I wish to someday grace a Hervé dress.

  • portlandmermaid

She looks great, but when did she turn into Loni Anderson?

  • miatamam

The dress makes her look normal-sized.  She should wear it everyday.

  • CatherineRhodes

Why can’t stars do repeats? Who cares, we’re in a recession — we all have to make do!

  • nannypoo

I was planning to comment that I can’t stand her and would rather stick needles in my eyes than watch her show, but then I read further and discovered that the dress is a repeat. So now I am saying Yay Her because I think it is so stupid and frivolous that they never wear the same dress twice. But I still won’t watch her show.

  • margaret meyers

She needs to lose the blanket of hair augmentation she is wearing.  After a certain point it looks silly.

  • Donna Schmidt

That’s a fabulous dress on her!

  • quiltrx

I like the dress a lot.  I don’t care for her at all, though.

  • bitterk

That is a great dress.  If I had a dollar for every time someone ruined a great dress with those fug Minnie Mouse shoes.

  • LambeeBaby

Love it! Super cool, super chic AND she is wearing horizontal stripes. Superb.
