Katy Perry in Fausto Puglisi

Posted on February 14, 2012

This appears to be “Let Me Make it Up to You, T Lo, by Dressing Like a Secretary” Day here at T Lo Imaginary Holidays, Inc. First, Christina dims the memory of her crazy-ass BAFTAs look by returning to the secretarial pool, and now Katy tries to make up for the disappointment we felt toward her Grammys look by doing this:

Katy Perry attends the Roc Nation Pre-GRAMMY Brunch in a Fausto Puglisi dress paired with Charlotte Olympia pumps.

Charlotte Olympia Piano shoes

Manga Secretary.

You are forgiven for any past transgressions, Katy. Well done.

After the event, she sprouted wheels and gun turrets, became Mecha-Secretary, and sped off into the night.

LOVE IT!  I would wear that dress in a heartbeat.  I’d have a harder time pulling off the shoes, but I do love them too.

      • http://twitter.com/bredalot Bridget Smith

Heh, I’m the opposite! I usually avoid platforms – too tall – but I’d ignore them for the simple whimsy and awesomeness of those. The dress looks great on her, but I’ll pass.

        • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

          I’d wear both dress and shoes…and I wouldn’t give a shit that my boobs were waist-level. ;-)

Wonder powers activate: Form of an Easter Egg!

      • Anonymous

enuma! you made me laugh! Who knew that my sister and I weren’t the only people watching that!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Patrick-Cleary/1201575213 Patrick Cleary

That woman sure can commit to a color scheme. I love her for it.

    • Anonymous

Except for the hair, I think she looks great! Love the cut of the dress and the shoes are wonderful.

      • Anonymous

        I want. Those shoes. NOW.

        • Anonymous

You’ll have to fight me for them. And I fight dirty.

    • Anonymous

Thinking I would love it, my dad once bought me a sweat suit with a piano keyboard going down one arm, and one leg.  PLUS a watch that had a keyboard as a band.  I looked like a forgotten member of Public Enemy.  Anyway, that might explain why I love these shoes.

      • Anonymous

Thanks for the visual, made me laugh.

    • http://profiles.google.com/melantha.chimera Eileen Duffy

That pink is so bright it’s practically glowing!  I love this look.

    • Anonymous

but she wore this PRIOR to her Grammy look…. wow! the power of the blue dye… she knew TLo was going to criticize her for her Grammy look, so she decided to wear this A DAY in advance!! Marvelous!!!! :-)

    • Anonymous

After the event, she sprouted wheels and gun turrets, became Mecha-Secretary, and sped off into the night.

SHIT, you guys, I’m trying to pretend to work!

    • Anonymous

But secretaries in manga wear office lady uniforms….

    • Anonymous

I love the shoes!  As with everything in this blog, I have no practical place to wear those but they are gorgeous.  The outfit reminds me of the  all the items in the 80’s mall clothing store Units.  Only the totally cool kids wore Units!

      • Anonymous

oh come on…she *did* wear them to a brunch…you could wear them to a brunch too, no?

(i had like 3 Units from the store in the mall…the rest, admittedly, were homemade or knock-off generics…Munits or some shit.)

      • Anonymous

OMG Units! How could a clothing system that bragged how multi-purpose and easy to wear it was be so hard to wear!?! I mean, maybe it was easier for the high-schoolers, but at best I think I felt I could manage the tube top/skirt worn as a belt over my jeans or something. Other than that, the whole thing was way too complicated to pull off.

      • Anonymous

UNITS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Omg, who’s heading over to Ebay with me?

      • Anonymous

Ha! UNITS!!! I had a couple black Units skirts that I wore for years! My single gal winter outfit…Black Unit skirt, tights, chunky boots, cute sweater.

      • http://twitter.com/IamDaBee Antonija Mitt

Ahahahahaha Units!  With all those little cubby holes.  My kids and I wore them for a few years while sitting on our rec room furniture from This End Up!  Plaid cushions, of course…

    • http://twitter.com/ClairRose483 Clair Ellis

WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH HER HAIR? Seriously, if you make enough money to dye your hair blue and people still take you seriously, then you need to make sure your roots don’t show. Period.

      • Anonymous

Agreed.  It’s also starting to fade quite a bit so the blonde/brassiness is starting to show through.  She needs to touch it up a bit and then the whole look would be perfect.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1303837450 Lauren Dorsee Dillon

I need those shoes. 12 years of piano lessons had to get me something.

    • Anonymous

      Those shoes are fabulous.

    • Anonymous

      Best commentary ever.

    • Anonymous

I know it’s a trick of the light but isn’t it weird how her her middle section totally disappears? Does manga feature g-g-g-g-GHOSTS!??!

I think this ensemble is a great reflection of her cartoony style, through a prism that vagues resembles adulthood. I dig it. Likewise her hair and makeup. (And her roots look better here, sort of a natural ombre.)

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/3MNPMZ5J7VYXJSIUOHF4SHDTR4 Sara

I was noticing that too.  It’s like her top half is floating.

    • Anonymous

Love the shoes, love the hair, love that she’s batsh*t insane when it comes to fashion. And love you guys for hitting the nail on the head with the commentary.

    • Anonymous

Note to self: Color blocking must include hair.

    • Cathy S

She looks fantastic! What a great dress! Those shoes are really whimsical and interesting. Still not wild about the hair color although it does go well with the dress. Well done Katy!

    • Jasmine Moten

She looks so unhappy and the smile looks forced.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Emily-Smith/12431153 Emily Smith

she really looks miserable.  and the blue hair is quite unfortunate.

    • Anonymous

Love it!! Love love love those shoes and I don’t even play piano or sing!

    • http://twitter.com/arodenha Alli

I’m kind of digging the look, but wish the dress had been sleeveless – then it would have been a WERQ for sure.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Josefina-Madariaga-Suárez/100002964685796 Josefina Madariaga Suárez

Who do I have to kill to get a pair of those gorgeous heels??

    • Anonymous

I wonder if she dyed her hair blue because she’s feeling blue…Oh boy, I love those shoes. And I think she looks cute.

    • Anonymous

Damn, those shoes are sold out on the site! Seriously – I would have bought them. I would have had to say screw the mortgage this month, but I would have bought them.

      • Anonymous

i would have worn them for sure back in the day. good for you GT for trying to buy them.

    • Anonymous

It’s a cute look — love the touch of yellow on the bracelet — but she really does look like she needs a hug, doesn’t she?

      • Amy Ellinger

I was thinking the same thing- her smile’s not reaching her eyes. She looks tired, poor kid. Super-cute, but like she just wants to disappear for a little while.

        • Anonymous

Her divorce was just finalized. I wouldn’t blame her if she was sad.

          • Amy Ellinger

Agreed. I actually was rooting for them to work out. Hopefully once the Grammy PR gauntlet is wrapped up, she’ll take some time for herself.

        • Anonymous

Her divorce was just finalized. I wouldn’t blame her if she was sad.

    • Anonymous

It’s like she’s no longer into it 100 percent because you have to be to pull her looks off, and she’s not pulling them off anymore.

    • Shoelover1512

I love that dress! I wish I could wear it!

    • Anonymous

Oh, I thought you were going to dis this, and I was upset. She looks adorable! I have never wanted blue hair so much before.

    • Anonymous

Give me those shoes. GIVE ME THOSE SHOES, and I’ll forget for a second that you’re a hack singer pretending to be a worthy artist when Adele just swiped the floor with you.

    • Anonymous

LOVE the shoes.  Like the dress.  Even like the hair.

    • Anonymous

Cute dress. She looks great in it. I like that she is dialing back the insane cartoony clothing but still keeping a fun factor. I say that as someone who is usually annoyed by Katy Perry.

    • http://twitter.com/The_Bugler Anna Daugherty

I think I’d look great in that dress (if it came in my size).

      She looks good. Crappy hair.

    • Anonymous

      Those shoes!

    • http://profiles.google.com/yifatshaik Yifat Shaik

      I
would loved the dress with different sleeves, but I want the shoes.
      they are Fab!!!!

    • Anonymous

Without the blue hair, I’d love it. The blue hair just makes it a little too matchy-matchy, in all the wrong ways.  But you’re right, very manga.

    • http://twitter.com/jaythenerdkid Aaminah Khan

This is the first time in ages that I’ve really loved her hair.

I do still miss the black, though.

    • Anonymous

She always looks sad these days, although I do like the dress. :)

    • nancy

I love the shoes, can do without the chunky platform chunk though. The rest is manga fab for sure.

    • Anonymous

I love it! Very flattering yet still very Katy. The shoes are great.
I’m still loving the blue hair. It’s not…well, my hair is blue, but it’s not TOO TOO crazy, right? This is YES bitches, my hair is BLUE and I don’t care WHAT you think.

    • Terence Ng

      I like it.

Also, she’s wearing too many clothes to have henshin-ed into anything manga/anime-related.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jonika-Tannous/1159464315 Jonika Tannous

still can’t get past the hair though….

    • http://twitter.com/chylde bellalozza

Fun piano shoes! The hair should go away.

    • Judy_J

I like this.  Alot.  Great shoes.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Love the dress and the shoes.  Hate the blue hair.  Her makeup looks good, for once.

    • MilaXX

This is cute. Yes she still has blue hair, but it’s a bit more saturated and the roots aren’t as obvious. I like.

    • Anonymous

If I could get the pattern of the shoes in a ballet flat, I’d buy them in a heartbeat.

    • Anonymous

If I could get the pattern of the shoes in a ballet flat, I’d buy them in a heartbeat.

    • Anonymous

She’s not really pulling off the sleeves, or that hair, but I still like this look and love the shoes. What is WRONG with me today?!

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/JJY4D3KT4IUWRYDR5TQW7726UY Tara

My first thought was that she looks VERY short in that outfit.  Then I thought, “Hmm, maybe she is short!”  So I looked it up and nope: she is 5’7″ or 5’8″.  So while I don’t think she looks bad by any means, something must be off with the proportions somewhere to create that optical illusion.

    • Anonymous

      really? blechh.

    • Anonymous

“After the event, she sprouted wheels and gun turrets, became Mecha-Secretary, and sped off into the night.” bahahaha love it, love her.

    • Anonymous

omg I totally worked with her in 1991! Except mine had red hair to go with the pink and blue outfit and her shoes weren’t as cool, though they were as high.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

      LOVE.  SHOES.

    • Anonymous

Why doesn’t she get her roots touched up? She knows she has all these events to go to, and she can’t bother to make the hair color perfect? I do like the dress. But I also liked the Grammy dress.

      • http://www.facebook.com/martha.dollery Martha Dollery

Agreed, the hair looks utterly terrible. I used to dye my hair and would often have this sort of thing, but I didnt have millions and hair stylists on the go. Or an award ceremony to go to…

    • Anonymous

I haaaaaaate this. The sleeves are gross, the shoes are gross and unless she takes it FULL CAMP, her outfits are always gross.

    • http://tigergray.blogspot.com/ Tiger Gray

Love that dress. Would wear it right now.

    • Anonymous

Those shoes are incredible. In my next life I will be able to wear heels such as this.

    • Anonymous

As a child I had Play-Doh the color of her hair.

    • Alyson Lamble

I actually really liked her Grammys dress, but the blue hair has to go.  She looks like an Easter Egg in this dress.  Love the shoes tho.

    • Anonymous

This is how she should dress all the time. Wacky, yet still chic.

    • http://twitter.com/IamDaBee Antonija Mitt

Can’t even…she is #1 on my Irrational Celeb Dislike List (hate is such a strong word, but for Katy, I may make an exception…)

    • Anonymous

You gentlemen KILL ME. I wish to God I had a movie poster entitled: “Katie Perry in MECHA SECRETARY”

    • http://twitter.com/karenrubyleo Karen

I love this, but wish she’d lose the blue hair already.

    • Anonymous

MANGA SECRETARY!!! Didn’t love the look but damn if that description didn’t suddenly shine a new light on it!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Angelica-Smith-Mertens/150401222 Angelica Smith Mertens

Those shoes are FIERCE!  I’m in love!

    • Anonymous

I don’t mind punk-ish blue hair in general, but the color/cut combo she’s working here is really unattractive on her.

    • Anonymous

Ugh!  I prefer the Elie Saab Couture she wore to the Grammys.  The blue hair is WRONG for both occasions.

    • Cheri Lee

She looks great! Love those shoes, Alicia Keys needs those.

    • http://twitter.com/carelessriver Cassie (C.M.W.)

Dangit, Katy Perry, the first time you look decent in, um, forever and I still have to nitpick. To wit: that hair colour is not working with her eyes. The blue of her eyes has just enough green to look very dull underneath that cyan ‘do. If she’s going to go all out with the fakery, she needs contacts to correct for that slight greenish cast. Otherwise, carry on in this vein!

    • Anonymous

I loved her Grammy’s look.  That dress was divine.  But Manga Katy Perry makes a lot of sense.  Good marketing.

    • Anonymous

Her hair looks totally knackered now. Adore those shoes though.

    • https://profiles.google.com/104791269167429064986 Judy S

I think she’s pretty consistent. Blues to bring out the color of her hair, and pink or purple if necessary to provide some contrast. Show me a picture of her where she is not Manga something.

    • Susan Crawford

I normally sit back and have a dose of daily cray-cray over Katy Perry’s costumery. And this is actually a pretty cray-cray look, but for some reason, I really, really like it. I might take in the bell-sleeves a bit, but otherwise, the fit is perfection, great proportion, and it manages to convey Katy’s innate “going-postal-in-the-candy-factory” aesthetic without making her look – well, her usual cray-cray self. It is just a fun, cute, pop-star dress.

And those shoes! Love them! As for the blue hair – well, it’s a little Smurfette for me, but then, it wouldn’t  be Katy unless she threw some Harajuku anime style in our faces. (“Manga secretary”! Bwahahahah!)

    • Anonymous

      I love those shoes!

    • Anonymous

Was it too hard to make the piano shoes actually resemble piano keys?  I want to love them, but the way the keys are TOTALLY wrong for a piano is driving me bonkers.
