Jessica Chastain for AnOther Magazine

Posted on February 21, 2012

Someone decided to do Jessica up like a sexy Lucille Ball and IT IS FREAKING US OUT.

Jessica Chastain featured in the Spring/Summer 2012 issue of AnOther magazine photographed by Willy Vanderperre and styled by Olivier Rizzo.

AAAHHHH!!! Clown lady is coming to eat me! Clown lady is coming to eat me!

Inside, she shuts her mouth slightly and becomes even less recognizable.

She doesn’t look bad, but she might as well be any of a dozen models here. What’s the point of asking an actress to pose if you’re going to make her look generic and unrecognizable?

Well, when she shuts her mouth, it looks like she swallowed whoever she just ate. And in the last photo, she’s ready for more. Scary. This is no way to end the day.

  • SewingSiren

    But the clothes are awesome!

    • PastryGoddess

That’s like saying she has a pretty face…

  • adoreadora

not. pretty. a little sexy, in a scary way.

  • umeboshi

the first photo is horrific. sometimes those huge horse veneers just do not look good…

  • schadenfreudelicious

good gawd that cover photo is truly cringe worthy, and the picture with her leg dangling off the chair makes her foot look like some type of otherwordly flipper..*shudder*

  • TheOriginalLulu

Maybe so, but the architectural details on those walls and ceilings are gorgeous!

    • meowing

Funny, I noticed those more than the so-what photos, too!  Wanna move in there…

  • Judy_J

I’m sick to death of the mouth-breathing pose.

    • Pinup Ghoul

It’s true. From runway models to Kenya Michaels. No one thinks looking like a frozen trout is sexy. Close your mouth, ladies. Or do something different.

Also: that photographer is just obsessed with Chastain’s neck. Not that it’s not a gorgeous neck, but it almost looks like the focus of every picture, which is a little strange, in my opinion.

  • Sobaika Mirza

I think she’s very beautiful, but doesn’t seem to take the best pictures. Too bad, I love a redhead.

  • CCDilg

Looks like an ad for Lanvin

    • meowing

      Or Listerine.

  • TieDye64

    Yikes! So not digging this.

  • Laura Schultz

Hmm do not like. The mouth open thing is indeed a little disturbing…

  • holdmewhileimnaked

for some reason here she reminds me more of holly woodlawn than of lucille ball. or maybe of holly woodlawn impersonating lucille ball. [i was gonna write holly woodlawn doing lucille ball, mind you, but that did not sound correct.]

then again, i went & looked up holly woodlawn & i couldnt find a holly woodlawn photo that looked that close to these. so maybe not holly woodlawn but someone like holly woodlawn. but who isnt holly woodlawn. or lucille ball. if i make sense.

    • grandpalarkin

      Jackie Curtis ?

  • Mylynka

*cries. runs. hides. waits for a safer RC post*

  • MilaXX

Is she hungry? Why can’t she shut her mouth?

  •!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Holy shit, was this a bad idea.

  • Tadiana Walton Jones

Not in a million years would I have recognized this as Jessica Chastain.  It looks like they dug out some slightly risque photos from the 1950’s.

  • Pants_are_a_must

I’m sorry, but only Lucille Ball could carry off that hair. Whoever did that to Chastain should be chastised. OH.

  • Anathema_Device

It is all so forced and vaguely terrifying. The cover shot reminds me of those hilarious stock photos of women eating salad alone:

That last dress is ridiculously fabulous.

    • JDreesen

BAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHHAHAHAHAH (don’t worry; i’m not currently eating a salad)!!  Good stuff.

    • Celandine1

LMAO who sprinkled pixie dust all over their salads? And where can I get some?

J’adore that last dress, would love to see it in a more fabulous setting. Would also love to get a better look at the shoes in the photo above it.

The cover shot reads “Jessica as Lucy doing a parody of Evita” and don’t be afraid Argentina, I won’t eat ALL of you.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

Please Jesus don’t let this be the last thing I see before my Ambien kicks in.

  • fallen_ikon

Close your mouth, dear. No, really. Close your mouth before you catch flies.

  • Kiltdntiltd

I hate clowns, and she is making the clown hate burst full bloom in this editorial.  The clothes are great, but I have to cover her head to be able to see them.

  • Kelsey Albrecht

Seeing her on all of these red carpets, I assumed he was in or almost in her 40s. Then I watched The Help this weekend and was stunned to see this was the same girl and she’s actually in her 20s!! WTH!!?!?! Scary, indeed.

Edited to add: This looks like a Rihanna photoshoot where they just lightened her skin in post-production.

  • Beth M.

    1. Is “knitting-for-hair” going to become a thing now?

    2. I see Sarah Burton listed on the cover. Could we have a post about that article pretty, pretty please?

  • JDreesen

Moody Pattinson Peach approves (with the valid stipulation that she looks much how any of a dozen models would look in a fashion shoot).

  • Zippypie

EWWWWW!  These are creepy, Joan Crawford-meets-Lucy in an alley with a coathanger creepy.  And what’s with the porn mouth?

  • MissJack

If you hadn’t said it was Jessica Chastain, I would have genuinely thought this was Rachel McAdams.

  • rainwood1

This editorial looks like a lesson in neck exercises.

  • lucasuk82

Love the last dress, but this an idea for a more established star, well known enough to be recognizable under the accoutrement.

  • Sarah Veenstra

this is really jarring; but LORD, does she transform with more dramatic makeup. I wish she’d up the ante on her face on the red carpet.

  • quiltrx

    She looks draggy and scary.

  • Antonija Mitt

Hmmmm not good.  Weirdly styled .  You are right about actresses modeling–why have them do it and make them look like…models.  They’re already do all the ad campaigns, so what’s a real model to do?

  • nannypoo

    Eeew. Nasty. And pointless.

  • PastryGoddess

Ummm yeah…ummm no Jessie, just no.

    Her teeth…my god!

  • Gotham Tomato

Lucille Ball was known as a looker in her day. In fact, early on she was thought of as too pretty to do comedy.

I wouldn’t say that Jessica has got the full on Lucy clown look though because she’s not wearing the blue eyeshadow or overdone lips (plus her hair color here is in the natural red range whereas Lucy’s red was not a color found in nature.) These ARE reminiscent of Lucy, but I think probably as much of Maureen O’Hara.

And besides, the scary clowns don’t eat you. They just hide under your bed and nibble on your toes.

  • Judy S

Lucille Ball WAS sexy. I don’t like these photos but I can see the idea of getting Chastain up this way. There is just something off in the makeup or lighting that  turns her into a vampire.

  • Jessica TallGirl Freeman

The hair.  Oh sweet Jesus.  That is just awful. And rude to Lucille.

  • Vaniljekjeks

  • AthenaJ

Can’t sleep, Jessica Chastain will eat me… can’t sleep, Jessica Chastain will eat me…

  • Ellen Davies

I don’t understand this obsession with making an actress look like another actress. Marilyn Monroe, Liz Taylor, now Lucille Ball. Why can’t Jessica Chastain just look like herself???

  • kvlm

beautiful but i would have never known it was her.  and she does not to shut the pie hole.  that’s not appealing.

  • jsm9327

The picture with her on the chair looks just like Geena Davis!

After watching her in “THE DEBT”, I cannot believe the actress in that movie and the actress in the above photo are one and the same.

  • DaringMiss

I want the black dress in the last picture.  And so should Christina Hendricks.

  • PeaceBang

    She has a killer bod.

  • Helen C

    Ronald McDonald.
