Gant Rugger Spring 2012 Ad Campaign

Posted on February 02, 2012

GANT Rugger showcases their “nouveau prep” spring line for their latest ad campaign, shot by Boo George and featuring Chris and Derek Orrell, who are brothers, and their friends Dave Gluick and Zach Tyler Lynd, none of whom are professional models. They are, however, cute.

“Taking a cue from true Americana style, GANT and Saturday created a campaign that portrays real men who have real style.  Authenticity is key to the GANT Rugger brand, with much of the collection based on modern interpretations of archival fits, fabrics and detailing. Future imagery will continue to be inspired by real people and real stories.

GANT Rugger designer Christopher Bastin stated, “We strive to keep Gant Rugger updated and contemporary and our visual language evolves with the collection. For spring/summer 2012 we’ve taken a few steps toward a cleaner image, with a nod to classic naturalistic portraits.”

We LOVE these clothes (except the denim shorts). We’ve been on a bit of a GANT kick for a while, because they provide stylish, well-made classics and it’s hard for any guy to look bad in them. The menswear collections have been a little crazy this season, so we thought we’d show off the kinds of clothes that a lot of men would like to wear and a lot of men could pull off.

Cute idea with the non-models, all of whom seem pretty comfortable in front of a camera. Would love to see a similar ad campaign for the ladies.

Love the “Doc Holliday” guy.  I’m normally no fan of mustaches, but this one I kind of love. He can work those clothes!

      • Anonymous

I was thinking the same thing.  Mustaches are always a turn-off for me…but something about him…

        • Anonymous

I know. I feel sort of ashamed, but I would so hit it.

      • Anonymous

        I second that!

      • Anonymous

I was totally getting a Timothy Olyphant in Deadwood kinda vibe from him, delish…..

      • http://twitter.com/bredalot Bridget Smith

It’s weird, because my dad had a moustache for most of my (actually, most of HIS) life until a tragic shaving accident that left him with The Hitler, so I’m certainly not anti-moustache as a rule, but I’ve seen so few that I like. (Well, his was gray and confined to his upper lip, so there’s that.) Not a fan of this one either, but he’s making it work.

      • http://www.GiftedCollector.com Nancy Abrams

And I thought I was going to be so clever by calling him Doc Holliday, but Seeker of Patterns beat me to it. Anyway, he is a real cutie and wears clothes beautifully.

      Plaid blazer’d!

    • Anonymous

well helloooooo cute guy with the handlebar mustache, how about a little furry kiss?  and also, i would like a pair of the yellow green pants for moi.

    • Anonymous

There is a lot to like here…but suits with shorts…uhm, NO!  Like the plaid blazer, striped sweaters, and everything in the top row especially.

Cute guys are always a plus…cheesy mustache guy would be cuter without it though.

    • Jasmine Moten

The mustache guy is confusing me. He is undeniably hot, but that ‘stache is just not doin’ it for me. Do away with it please! And the clothes as well!

    • Ceur -

The young one with the shortest hair almost look like a model, yes? Sooo cute and actually giving face.

    • Lattis

I can see these clothes working like aces on lots of guys.

Not sure I’m sold on the shape of the jackets. Plaid (gorgeous) jacket (2nd & 4th row), seer sucker jacket (3rd row), etc. I love the fitted, body hugging quality of them, but they look small on the body – fitting kind of like Pee Wee Herman’s trademark grey jacket, with the buttoned button right at the bottom of the rib, and the sleeves higher than the cuff.

    • Anonymous

I never knew anyone but Kurt Russell could pull off that Tombstone moustache.

    • Anonymous

Why is that one guy with the really short beard–the somewhat swarthy one–always looking down? He’s so much better-looking when he’s looking up. (If that is indeed the same guy; he looks really different when looking down. I’m judging based on facial hair.) Anyway, when he’s not staring at his shoes he’s cute; moustache guy is hot in a sort of shameful way; and the blondie is unexpectedly doing it for me as well. I find all of these guys (except that crewcut one, who seems douchey to me) so much more appealing than the vast majority of male models.

    • Anonymous

Thank God we are in agreement on denim shorts – HEINOUS! That one guy is really working the porn stache.

    • http://twitter.com/TheRedZavodnik Ginger

Plaid jacket, second photo…my husband NEEEEDS that and would look amazing in it!

Yay to men with groomed, yet slightly scruffy-looking, facial hair.  ‘Tis pure hotness.

      • http://twitter.com/TheRedZavodnik Ginger

And the olive sweater, fifth photo.  Yes to that one as well.

      • Anonymous

You can have the jacket, I’ll have the guy. I think I’m in love. Oh my god, he is perfect.

    • Anonymous

Clothes for real men. Yay. Mostly love it, but I’m not digging the cut on some of the blazers. I like the cute, non-model idea. Adorable shoot.

    • Anonymous

I like the raincoat. I think I’ll grow a moustache.

    • http://twitter.com/Deac82 Mike M.

I wear a lot of Gant for that very reason.  Their fit is, at the same time, full in the shoulders and tailored through the torso.  You really can’t go wrong with any of it.

    • Anonymous

Not models, but they all look like models, so what’s the difference. LOL.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1043171034 Tadiana Walton Jones

I just want to see someone in my world wear that pink(ish) suit with the shorts and red vest, for real.

    • Anonymous

      how cute those boys are

    • Anonymous

These guys are adorable. In the first picture we can see how Austin Scarlett would look with a beard.

      • Anonymous

I thought the exact same thing.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Patrick-Cleary/1201575213 Patrick Cleary

Is something wrong with their necks, or is “Hey, is that an ant?” a new style of modeling?

I’ll take the Wild, Wild West guy in bed, though.

    • MilaXX

Very cute. I like the entire collection and can think of various friend I have who could wear everything. After the insanity of so many men’s collection this is a breath of fresh air.

    • Anonymous

“Boo Geroge” is possibly the best name I’ve ever heard.

PS: I’ll take that tan coat, thank you.

    • Anonymous

Damn hipsters and their damn ‘quirky’ facial hair, oozing into the mainstream …

      ::grumble::

    • Anonymous

I sortof want to lick the guy who is reminiscent of an attractive John Oates.  Why?

      • Lattis

        hahahahaha :D

    • Anonymous

I do love classic clothes on men.

    • Geno Boggiatto

The mustache man is yummy. Also, why are they all looking down? Is it to make us look at their crotches? Because it worked.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Deborah-Jozayt/100002949685297 Deborah Jozayt

I wonder if the guy with no facial hair whatsoever feels like the odd duck of the bunch.

Like you go through the pictures, and he comes off like “I’m the freaking weirdo” until you get to the last shot where he’s wearing dorky glasses, and suddenly he’s found his place in life.

    • Anonymous

more spreads like this, please! This shows off the clothes way better than a bunch of gaunt male models sulking over their soy lattes

    • Anonymous

refreshing. I like denim shorts. the whole hatred for casual rolled denim is nutty to me.

      • Anonymous

Me too. Why the hate for them? They’re better than those ‘suit’ shorts….brrrre.

        • Anonymous

AGREED! A dude in rolled shorts and a spiffy T cant beat it.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

That civil war pornstach is so ridic it actually kind of circles all the way back to awesome.  Love this.

      • Anonymous

YES THANK YOU that’s it exactly. I kept thinking it’s not quite handlebar…it’s sort of bad 70′s porn…civil war pornstach! Loving that the clothes are stylish and wearable.

    • Anonymous

Huh. Which two are the brothers, you think? I totally can’t tell.

    • Anonymous

I’m sorry, middle guy second pic.  Val Kilmer has already been cast as Doc Holliday.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3DWDLRZCK3MZICZKYJDR55MC4Y soren

I’m really not into the 2+ inch gap between the vest and jeans.  Actually most of the jackets look like they’re made for someone who’s 5’10″ but worn by someone who’s 6’3.”

    • Anonymous

Big fan of the plaid jacket, though most of this would be, as you said in the first place, solid stuff which would serve most guys well.

    • Anonymous

if the guy w/ the handlebar is not a model he has missed his calling.
you know, i cant remember what the clothes look like very well & i just saw them two minutes ago. not that thats bad– i think a lot of guys care about their clothes about that much. unobtrusive, well fitting, makes you concentrate on the person instead of what the person’s wearing.

    • http://twitter.com/applecocola Stacy

THAT GIANT MUSTACHE, I love it!

    • Sara Morris

Is it me, or are they quite a bit more attractive than the standard airbrushed plasticos we normally see modelling?

    • http://twitter.com/RzYoung RzYoung

Swoon, love the dude with the ‘tashe especially in those stripy shorts! He looks like a strong man in a 1930s circus!

    • Anonymous

Finally..some REAL clothes on REAL men…yummy on both counts!…so glad to see shorter shorts making the rounds..the whole mid calf short thing doesn’t look good on ANYONE.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Oh thank heavens.  Clothes that 95% of the male population would actually wear. And on some damn good looking men.

    • Anonymous

Very cute.  I think Talbots did something similar with mothers and adult daughters and it was very nice to see regular women and not just models wearing the clothes (some were quite a bit shorter than models or a bit bigger).  I agree it would be really great to see designers do this for women as well.

    • Anonymous

These guys look great.  Wouldn’t it be nice if more men dressed like this?  And I have to say, seeing real people wearing great  clothes make the clothes more inspiring and more motivational to the average joe than the usual underweight children we usually see.  My son would actually wear these clothes.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=786600203 Dan Howell

Plaid jacket and the trench, please!

    • Anonymous

Hey handlebar mustache, over here!  Yum

    • Anonymous

I think these guys look great and are styled really well.  With the exception of the plaid jacket (which I love), it’s all boring as hell to me.  If real men put together outfits like this to go out and about, I would be thrilled – but as for owning any of these pieces myself?  Yawn.

    • http://www.facebook.com/fiddlecub Kevin VanOrd

They all love their own dicks, apparently, as they so often look in that exact direction!

This is everyday Capitol Hill, Seattle with a dash of Eastside trolling over the 520 to be hip in the bigger named city. In short, you can call it “GAP as designed by Land’s End”

    • http://twitter.com/Remix2bronition Remixtobronition

Jut came across this but the guy in the intellectual glasses and denim shorts is adorable!!
