Emily VanCamp for FLARE Magazine

Posted on February 01, 2012

Hamptons Batman gets a much-deserved spot on the cover of FLARE magazine:

Revenge‘s Emily VanCamp covers the March 2012 issue of Canadian fashion magazine FLARE in a dress by Emilio Pucci, earrings by Dolce & Gabbana, and a ring by Clara Kasavina photographed by Chris Nicholls.

They insist on using actresses’ heads as the “A.” Tsk.

On her style evolution: “Coming from a small town in Canada, it was not something that ever came naturally to me, this whole dressing up thing. I used to really envy the girls who could just throw something together so beautifully because I had no concept of how to do that…It’s taking what makes you feel comfortable and bumping it up a notch.”

On working with Madeline Stowe: “I’ve learned so much from her, and yet we laugh all the time. We’re certainly nothing like our characters.”

On sympathizing with the vengeful Emily Thorne: “I don’t think I could play this character if I didn’t feel like she was justified on some level. If I had suffered what she has gone through I might very well be doing the same things as her. But I haven’t. I actually have a great family and good friends.”

Anyway, we think she looks gorgeous and we figured we’d throw the Thorne-o-philes a bone since, dammit, Revenge is a rerun tonight. We think she’s on the verge of major stardom. Maybe not movies, since she’s so low key (others might say, “bland”) but she’s loaded with the right kind of charisma for the small screen and you can’t take your eyes off her. She was criticized a bit earlier in the season for playing Emily so low-key as to be almost comatose, but if you’ve been watching, you’ll see not only was that a deliberate choice, but it’s one that’s paying off as the story gets more complicated. She’s the perfect foil for Madeline Stowe, who redefines the soap opera bitch by – again – playing it small instead of chewing up the scenery.

God, we love that show.

Loved her on “Everwood.” She definitely lights up the small screen.

Oh, Emily VanCamp is very pretty, but Liu Wen is serving up teh fierce!

J’ADORE that dress. Loved it on Elizabeth Olsen, love it on the model, love it on Emily. Even if it does eat her waist a little bit.

      Yay, Liu Wen! <3

Love the bright dress, especially against that blue background.

      Looking good. Love the show.

I think I’ve finally figured out what my problem is with this dress, which I want to like. The neckline is too wide.

She looks so – healthy.  I am not in love with yellow but this actress is just peachy and glowing.   I am just noticing that this is post 10 on TLo today.   Thank you TLo for putting up all of this content, day in and day out.  You are the Ultimate Companion to my morning coffee, my lunch break at my desk, my afternoon coffee and so forth.

Can’t say I am 100% a Van Camp fan, but I like Revenge and she looks great in that dress.

DYING FOR REVENGE TO COME BACK.

      Emily looks nice, too.

Adorable, if the styling was a bit adult.

You see here, Lea, what it is that people really like -and how to wear Pucci-?

The dress is pretty — I always seem to gravitate to yellow — but I agree with whoever said the neckline is a bit too wide. The bright, glossy color palette they went with for the mag’s cover feels kinda 80s to me. Appropriate given Revenge’s roots in 80s prime time soaps!

Love Revenge and I love that the leading lady looks like she actually enjoys food. I agree she underplays her role but as you mentioned this is a perfect balance for Maddy’s dramatic side eye moments.

La fez is not quite working here; a bit smirky. Great dress.
Just a lit’l celeb sighting reportage from el lay: Saw Emily V with her costar Joshua/Daniel and another party, having a late brunch in a resto in the neighborhood. She does indeed have that charisma and magnetic charm even off screen. She definitely has it on the small screen but it was a treat to experience that in the flesh, so to speak, across crowded tables out on a Sunday brunch.

Emily’s lipstick color looks a little off to me (though that could just be my screen) and I still have some issues with the targets on the hips, but it’s a fun dress and she looks great in it.

Hmm. I really like the dress, but that really wide, square neckline isn’t doing her any favors and I wouldn’t have chosen that lipstick for her. Other than those two minor criticisms, she looks great.

      That dress is fabulous.

I am such a thorn-o-phile and I really miss Hamptons Batman and need her to be back on television IMMEDIATELY.

Look! A real Person! on a cover of a magazine. ‘Artistic’ left a little bit of Girl Next Door in the photo. New trend? Are we spotting….less gloss and waif…TBD

I don’t love the color on her, but this very slightly soothes my pain over Revenge not being on. Slightly.

The Pucci dress is gorgeous! Wow.

Meanwhile, I am in love with “Revenge”. Yes, I said ‘in love’. Is that weird? Sure! Do I care? Nope.

      Carry on…

Ditto to both. I hate that so many of my favorite shows (I really watch so few) feel they need to go into reruns mid year in recent times. Nice for those who may want to catch up or get on board. Not so much for those of us that are invested.

So bright I need to turn down the screen.  Don’t like yellow but it is a gorgeous dress.  Haven’t the faintest who this gal is or the show she’s on.

Her body looks fierce in that dress.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

I haven’t seen the show, but I LOVE that Pucci dress!!

      God, I love that dress.
So nice to see a cover that isn’t over-photoshopped.

    • Anonymous

Wow, she’s really quite beautiful, isn’t she? And that dress is really nice

“Revenge is a rerun tonight.”  Sounds like an anti-Valentine’s Day anthem!

LOVE. She is fantastic. The show is fabulous. Have been a fan since Everwood. :)

I don’t watch Revenge so I’m not really familiar with this girl, but she just looks pretty bland here–no real expression at all, and that color washes her out.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Cute girl. Cute dress. And her soundbites make her sound so, uh, normal?
I used to think I disliked her but it turned out I just disliked that stupid ‘Brothers and Sisters’ show.

      killer dress.

    • oohsparkley!

Emily and her character are very controlled, reserved characters.  I also loved her on Everwood and think she’s a talented actress.  I wonder if she could play wild and outgoing?
