BCBG Max Azria Fall 2012 Collection

Posted on February 10, 2012

There’s a lot to love about this collection, starting with the colors. Gorgeous, saturated yellows, oranges and greens paired with the beiges and camels that prevent them from being too much. Everything is bold, graphic, and luxe. There was a lot of play with pleating, which we really liked, but we weren’t as keen on some of the looser silhouettes, which didn’t tend to serve the color-blocking as well. Some gorgeous bags and coats, with a bit too much fur. If you’re going to use fur, it should be on a backdrop that showcases it. Too many times it felt like an unneeded afterthought here. Still, the looks are striking and so cohesive you’ll have no problem identifying any of them as from this designer, from this season. Statement clothes from tip to toe.

    Mila does color blocking better.

i agree about the fur, it’s just making the clothes harder to look at. The white dress in the middle looks like it belongs in another collection.

That’s the only look I really liked!

If it didn’t have that sheer bottom that would be a nice dress.

The 3rd look is bizarre-looking, probably just because of the piece that is going between her legs.

agreed! if it doesn’t walk down the runway right, which then doesn’t photograph right, that makes me so not want to buy or wear something like that. It is so fussy looking.

I love the trench coat!  Too bad I can afford maybe one sleeve.

I’m not such a big fan of all the color blocking with the flowier fabrics. I like my colors blocked sharp and structured and pin-precise or not blocked at all

Lots of pretty -  love it all but will give it all up for that first coat.  Divine!

Seriously – I’m in love with the coats – women’s and men’s – this season.

I generally like color blocking, but I’m kind of underwhelmed by this collection. Maybe I just have the Fry-day crankies. Although, I would wear the dress in the second row on the far right and the outfit right under it.

I love that first coat, and I’m betting J.Lo will too (though she does favor solid-color garments). I like the illusory quality of some fo the dresses, with the black-and-nude strips, but I don’t really think they are wearable.

Ugh, really? Is fur going to be a thing this year?

    • Anonymous

      Gosh, I sure hope so.

      • Anonymous

Me,  too.  Although mine are vintage.

Hmmmmm…great colors and nice color blocking, but just with Rowley–pretty shapeless.  Except, again, the white dress!  Nice bags, though.

I enjoy the colors and the sort of 1920′s feel.

Second row, far right. Tell me who I have to stab and I will do it.

      Agreed. Gorge.

When I was a child, this is what I imagined clothes would look like in the future.

    yum!

Good GOD no.  To most of it, anyways.

The first coat, the second row far right, the one just below that and the blue bag. You can have everything else.

  • MilaXX

I like the first coat, outfits 8,9 and 11. I only like the 2nd bag, the other read a bit mature for my taste. I don’t like any of the fur accented pieces. They look as tacked on as the pockets on the tweed outfit from last night’s 24 hour Catwalk.

Not really feeling anything. I’ll save my outpouring of lust for another collection.

I’m the first to admit being a huge BCBG fan and customer, but I wasn’t in love with this collection. I’ll take the handbag and the trenchcoat, but that’s about all.

  • Judy_J

Love the color blocking. Reminds me of the 60′s.

Like! (well, except for the fur.)

That trench is TO DIE FOR. Most of the dresses are kind of meh.

And you’re right about the fur.  The only look where it doesn’t look like they just threw some fur to see where it stuck was the fur handbag with the white dress.  It was unexpected and quite chic.

  • Anonymous

i love the colors in the first row middle, but it looks like a furry alien is grabbing her from behind.  look out!

  • Anonymous

I’m digging this collection quite a bit, minus all the completely unnecessary dead animal bits.  The trench in the first row and the 2nd and 3rd dresses in the second row are sooooo prettyyyyyyy.

  • Anonymous

I’m making this and In or Out post and I give it an OUT.

I looks kind of sloppy and messy and the fur is kind of random.

  • Anonymous

last dress, second row is utterly fabulous. I love it. Why is there so much fur lately, though? not feeling it.

  • Anonymous

The only thing I like here is that first leather trench, which is to die, and which someone needs to anonymously ship to Cathy Cambridge immediately. Or Charlize Theron, whatever. Everything else looks like a pile of remnants to me.

  • Anonymous

Aaahh, I like. Minus the fur.

I LOVE the first jacket. So cute.

aww bcbg:) i am proud to say i work there

*LOVE* the trench coat. Saw it yesterday morning on NY1 news fash wk coverage. Immediately muttered to myself about being closer to broke than to the tax bracket that buys this without fear for their childs next meal. Sometimes its hard being the 99% when you have1% taste.

Rest of the collection I could do without. Some memorable looks but overall nothing quite inspiring the existential crisis the trench does for me ;)

  • Anonymous

Love that trench coat!  As a matter of fact, I like quite a few of these looks.  And the bags are divine!

  • Anonymous

looking forward to see what trickles down to the ready to wear line

  • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

The blue bag for me, please!

  • Jadine Wilson

The dress in the middle of the 3rd row? GIVE IT TO ME NOW.

  • Terence Ng

The white dress is cute, but I hate the veil tail.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6TDAYXK555ABAKZEEOAJMC25FU Stan

It all looks a little Pocahontas to me.  The fur only adds to that effect.

  • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

I’m not responding all that well to it, and I usually like color-blocking.

  • Anonymous

The top middle look has a similar feel (colour-wise) to the outfit that got Rami schmaufed (although I’m not sure anything could be as bad as Rami’s top)

  • Anonymous

Love #10, hate the fur scarf though.
Don’t care for any of the fur really.

  • Anonymous

Not to my taste at all. I am not sure why, since I mostly like color blocking – but here it looks either dull, too busy, or just, not special. Not sure what is making me so underwhelmed.

But if this is the designer version, the knockoffs are going to be hideous.

    Love!!
