WERQ: Kate Beckinsale in Michael Kors

Posted on January 26, 2012

Brace yourselves, bitches. This is going to come as a shock.

Kate Beckinsale attends the “Underworld: Awakening” Madrid Photocall in Michael Kors.

Michael Kors Twist Front Matte Jersey Dress

YES, SHE’S WEARING THE SILLY PUTTY PUMPS. WE KNOW.

But despite our year-long diatribe against their overuse, we’re going to have to sign off on this one. Would they have been our pick to pair with this dress? Definitely not. But everything north of her ankles looks so good that we’re not having a hard time at all pretending that we don’t notice the shoes. That dress looks spectacular on her. Hair’s a little big, but that’s kind of her thing, isn’t it? We just wish the collar wasn’t so obscured, because it’s the most interesting part of the dress. But these really are just quibbles – even the shoes. The simple fact of the matter is she’s WERQing the shit out of that dress and we can only give her the appropriate neck rolls and snaps up in response. You WERQ that bod, girl!

I think she looks great, but that’s mostly due to her, not the look itself. The dress is very flattering and cute, but it’s making me envy her body as opposed to whatever sartorial inspiration went into putting together this outfit.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Isn’t that sort of the point though?  Like when you see someone whose make-up is really well done, you’re thinking “What beautiful …” not “What a great make-up artist.”

      • Sobaika Mirza

But there’s nothing about this look that is particularly great. Her makeup is alright, the dress could work on plenty of other starlets, thought put into the shoes was nonexistent, etc. For me, these pictures amounted to, “Man, she’s hot.” and “I should hit the gym more often.” Not “WERQ!”

I can’t tell that they’re even hair extensions, except it’s hard to imagine someone having real hair that is THAT perfect.

  • Anonymous

She’s definitely turned that dress into a sex kitten dress.  It looked kinda sad on the model, but I think part of that is shoes.  She looks great and I don’t mind the shoes.  I agree, though-I wish we could see the collar better.

    • Anonymous

You are so right; the model doesn’t do that dress justice.

  • Anonymous

    She looks fantastic.

  • Anonymous

    Damn, skinnnnnnny.

  • Anonymous

Pretty dress ruined by out-of-proportion Frankenstein feet.

thank you! i was trying to figure out if maybe the photo was shot from an odd angle but i don’t think that it was. those shoes are just freaking horrible and should be burned.

  • http://twitter.com/hmbscully WendyD

Her shoes are better than the ones on the model!

    • Anonymous

They are! The clunky shoes on the model ruin the look IMO.

  • Anonymous

I hate the overdone hair but the dress AND THE PUTTY SHOES look great! Love the red.

  • Anonymous

Looks good, though kind of nondescript for red carpet.

  • Anonymous

That’s a really gorgeous colour red. At least her shoes are a bit better than the ones the model is sporting.

  • http://twitter.com/NC_Meg Megan

That dress looks like it was MADE for her! And that hair. I envy that hair.

  • Anonymous

Hate that her hair is hiding the most interesting part of that dress.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_64HSRZWCSJ5RBFGCWDLFQOICYM G

I am a bitter kitten who thinks her body rocks, but the shoes are distracting.  Not as distracting as the huge hairdo with a flat center part… hair that should have been lifted up so we could admire the dress and fit.  Bottom line:  I like it from the shoulders to the ankles.

    • Anonymous

EzzzzzzACKly!  I was surprised to see the interesting neckline on the model, since it’s completely obscured by Kate’s hair.  I do not forgive the shoes.  No. Never.  Shoulders to ankles: yes!  North and south of those: Big no!

  • http://twitter.com/MandySCG MandyJane

That dress really flatters her figure, and I love the color.  I think the silly putty shoes look okay on her because she has tan legs, giving some contrast.

  • MilaXX

She looks good because for a change the boobs aren’t doing the heavy lifting so you look at her rather than her rack. Also because the dress is such a nice saturated color and fits her impeccably, the putty pumps are less of an issue. Might I add this dress would also work on fellow curvy gals Christina Hendrix and Sofia Vergara.

  • Anonymous

    hate the shoes!

  • Anonymous

The color is very flattering and I don’t mind the hair at all. Even the shoes are not horrible here because they help the dress look sleeker and sexier than it did on the model.

  • Sara__B

I’m not a fan of this look. I see a gorgeous woman with a lovely figure in a nice dress with not so nice styling. The shoes are huge and ugly and the hair is just plain huge. The dress is a great color and fits her well, but the best part has been eaten by all that hair. At least she’s not busting out all over.

  • Anonymous

Thank heavens she didn’t wear the shoes Kors pyut his model in!

  • Anonymous

I dislike the hair over the shoulders obscuring the neckline more than I dislike the silly putty pumps.  I might be inclined to downgrade this to an In rather than a WERQ. But, damn, she does look great in that dress.

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

    I want that dress. Seriously.

Though nothing in this look is really spectacular, all together it really does WERQ for her.

  • http://www.facebook.com/aboutelle Ashleigh Boutelle

one of the rare instances where the wearer looks better than the model.

    • Anonymous

I agree, but actually often think the wearer looks better than the model.  Someone with more personality and some curves can really bring a dress to life.

  • Anonymous

That’s a really nice dress and it looks amazing on her. Great color.
Ugh, I hate it when they pull all their hair forward like that on either side. It looks a little silly from the front, but from the back it looks really ridiculous.
Anyway, it’s a WERQ because she looks so gorgeous here.

    • Anonymous

      Total middle-school hair.

  • Anonymous

I don’t mind the pumps either, I just wish she had gone for an updo and chosen a lipstick color that didn’t clash so much.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1043171034 Tadiana Walton Jones

Almost make me want to have a pair of my own Silly Putty Minnie Mouse shoes.  Almost.  Maybe if they’ll give me the dress to wear along with them ….

  • Anonymous

Designers & stylists: Notice how fantastic she looks in that COLOR.

  • Anonymous

Shoes and hair are thumbs down for me…but the dress and her bod look fantastic.  That’s a great color.  She is werqing it…I’ll give her that.  :)

  • Anonymous

She looks amazing, that body is slammin’! But, oh how I hate those shoes! There are millions of prettier, more interesting, funkier, just plain better shoes than these, yet they keep showing up! Why?!? Lame.

  • vmcdanie

I feared before I scrolled down that you would inexplicably praise the shoes. They are so distracting, I’m having trouble just evaluating the dress however the balance of the outfit does appear to be good.

  • Anonymous

Love the color, love the fit, but…that knotted-waist business has been around about five years now – I see it everywhere, but mostly down-market. Kind of surprised to see it on a designer frock on the red carpet.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=811053804 Stacy Parker Cole

This is exactly why she frustrates me.  She looks so frickin AWESOME here.  If you’re genetically blessed, put some effort into darnit! lol

  • Anonymous

    YAYYYY taylor!!

ps. did she recently get a nose job? because she looks far more evangeline lily in the last couple of months than kate beckinsale.

    • Anonymous

I think she has had a lot of Botox and lost some weight and that may impact the nose.  Wasn’t she recently voted to have the most coveted celebrity nose (some DailyMail thing, if I recall correctly)?  That doesn’t mean she didn’t fix her nose, but the botox stuck out like crazy the second I looked at the pic

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I certainly hope so — I’ve always loved her nose.

  • Anonymous

Jeez – given the truly FUGLY shoes on the model, I’ll take silly putty shoes any day. UGH!

  • Anonymous

She looks fabulous, even with the fug shoes.  I would have put a pair of brown croc or snakeskin uber sexy pumps with this but I love that shade of red with a rich brown.

  • Anonymous

Is it me, or do those shoes make her feet look like they’re size 13 1/2?  Great dress, though.

  • Anonymous

    Dear Kate: great dress!
Please cut your hair. You look way too Real Wives Southern California and at least 15 years older than you are.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

If it was either the cocker spaniel hair OR the silly putty pumps I’d be happy not to notice – that dress is fanfuckingtastic.  But when both are off?  Poor styling.

  • Cathy S

She looks great, but I do wish I could see the collar. It’s the most interesting part.

  • Anonymous

I don’t understand … Those shoes make her feet look enormous!  And a total yes to the whatthehellery of having a goodlooking collar obscured by sad and done looking hair.  She always looks so much better with shorter hair.

  • Anonymous

I don’t agree with her choice of pumps, but the orthopedic shoes on the model is definitely NOT an option. She could have showed the collar, it’s the best part.

  • Anonymous

I can’t believe she who must not be named (unless, you know, Rachel Zoe wants to say her name) did such a good job styling.  Actually, I can.  Taylor has done a good job with Kate, even if she is the evilest bitch alive and all that’s wrong with the world…or something like that.

  • Anonymous

I clicked on the link and found out that the little slip of a dress costs more than what I earn in a month.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EDI2DLE7DE3YPW2ONIHBWOVHMA ecallaw

Her hair is unreal, but as you said, I do wish we could see more of that pretty neckline. God, I hate those shoes.

  • Anonymous

I can’t complain about the silly putty shoes after seeing the ones on the model.

  • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Lovely dress and she looks beautiful. Y’know, Cathy Cambridge would rock this too.

  • http://tigergray.blogspot.com/ Tiger Gray

This is one of those rare times that I think the shoes actually work with the dress.

  • Anonymous

I disagree. She’s got a great body, so she’d look good in the proverbial paper bag. It’s a great dress and color, but that hair has GOT to go. Make up is just meh. She phoned it in; she could look so much better.

  • Anonymous

I also find the silly putty pumps to be totally acceptable when combined with either this shade of red or a navy-ish shade of blue. I think that’s the best use of them.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3AJ237ND3GAHDQJZ4TLCO4WLRA Emily

The color of dress is so great on her, she looks gorgeous.

  • Anonymous

    Wow, she looks fantastic!

  • Anonymous

She looks great, but her face doesn’t look like her face anymore. That dress is a gorgeous color!

  • Anonymous

Beautiful, but damn those are some big ol’ honkin’ shoes. Other than that I’d happily switch bods and faces with her.

  • Anonymous

    hell no

  • http://twitter.com/RzYoung RzYoung

No TLo, no, I shan’t allow it. The shoes are too awful, her hair is too King Charles Spaniel and her shins look like they’ve been basted!

  • Diego!

She looks stunning! I love her :)

  • http://janeaustensworld.wordpress.com/ Vic

I prefer Kate’s shoes to those the Michael Kors’ model is wearing. Kate knows how to accessorize. A simple ring was all that she needed.

  • Amanda in Austin

I have a serious girl crush on her. She’s just so freaking fabulous.

  • Anonymous

She looks gorgeous but in the full length pic, I keep staring at the putty shoes. It’s distracting.

I wish she had shown off that neckline more too!

  • margaret meyers

Wearing her hair like that really ruins the beautiful line of the collar and the the drap of the fabric across the chest.  She  d o e s look good.

  • Anonymous

She looks fab in the dress but the shoes are unforgivable.

  • Anonymous

Yawn. Boring dress. Perfectly acceptable and inoffensive, but way too boring for a WERQ. Love he hair though.

  • Anonymous

I’d shorten it to knee-length, but otherwise, me likee

  • Anonymous

I must admit the Silly Putty shoes look pretty good with that dress.

  • frankystein123

The silly-putty becomes do-me pumps when paired with the lovely Kate Beckinsale in that spectacular dress.
